MUKILTEO THE COMMUNITY

For many who have lived here all their lives, Mukilteo represents the warmth of the families, neighborhoods and memories of small town America. Resting against steep rising hills and complemented by spectacular views, Mukilteo has a rich history for all to enjoy. The first settlement in the County was established on the northern point of Mukilteo in 1858.

Pioneers to Mukilteo developed a trading post, lumber mill, cannery and a port of entry for the trading ships.

Mukilteo was the place where Governor Isaac Stevens signed a Peace Treaty with the 26 Tribes of Western Washington, January 22, 1855. It was also home to one of the first breweries in the Territory and to the historical Mukilteo Lighthouse, which was built in 1906.

Mukilteo now stands on the one square mile which was deeded to the United States by the Tulalip Indians. It is geographically situated as the gateway to Island and San Juan counties and is home to the Whidbey Island (Mukilteo-Clinton) ferry terminal. The lighthouse which is adjacent to the ferry terminal is still functional and is open for free tours on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

With a first class golf course, new schools, and an ever expanding business core the Mukilteo area is growing by leaps and bounds. A quaint down town corridor compliments the southern annexed area of the city, where commerce and industry abound. Mukilteo holds on to its friendly small town charm and remains a wonderful place to live.
