SPANAWAY

THE COMMUNITY

EXPLORE SPANAWAY

Spanaway was once deemed “the country” but has since become both a suburban and a rural community. New amenities have started to move into the area, including shopping centers, schools, and restaurants. Residents enjoy the ability to have space surrounding their homes but also take part in the community activities. Being outdoors is critical for the people that move here. Being very close to nature, residents, and visitors can enjoy outdoorsy

activities such as hiking and biking. The typical home in this area is charming and modest, from old farmhouses to big lots, the housing market is bustling. Many of the residents of this area are either in the military or family members of the military. The city is close to Joint Base Lewis McChord, making it a beautiful community to join if the military is your profession. The most notable landmark is Pacific Lutheran University, a private college that was founded in 1890. Thousands of students fill the campus each year and add to the charming sense of community brought on by the history of this town.
