Congresswoman Johnson’s Statement on President Trump’s Speech Established in 1960 Dallas, TX – Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson released the following statement after President Trump proposed conditional protection for DACA recipients and Congresswoman Johnson temporary protected status holders in exchange for $5.7 billion for a border wall in a White House speech: “We’ve been down this road with the president before to only find ourselves in this very situation. The difference now is that 800,000 Americans have been without paychecks for the last 29 days because of President Trump. “The proposal the president just made does not
address the most pressing crisis on hand: the government shutdown. President Trump can and must reopen on the government at once, restore the pay that our federal workers have earned and restart essential services that millions of Americans rely on. Once he does this, Democrats in the House will continue to pass bills that bolster and enhance border security measures and will be willing to come to the table to discuss comprehensive immigration reform. “These are all steps we are ready to take, but we will only consider this action once the government is reopened. Let me be absolutely clear: Temporary protection in exchange for the construction of a permanent wall is not a serious solution. The president’s proposal today fails to bring us closer to finding a solution to fix our broken immigration system.”

There was a time, however brief, when Leroy “Satchel” Paige legendary right-handed pitcher, and the groundbreaking second baseman, Jackie Robinson, each wore the uniform of the Negro League’s Kansas City Monarchs. As is well known, Robinson broke baseball’s color barrier by joining the Brooklyn Dodgers for the 1947 season, while Paige joined Cleveland the next year as a 42-year-old rookie. Dallas’ Curfew was Community Driven My Day - By Dr. J. Ester Davis www.esterday,com
First of all, Dallas does has a curfew. And what are your thoughts on a Dallas curfew? On Monday, January 14, 2019, a briefing was held at City Hall concerning the expiration of the Dallas curfew for our citizens under the age of 17. The curfew has been in existence for about 26 years in the City of Dallas. On January 18, 2019, the curfew will expire. In short order, the Dallas Curfew is in effect from 11PM to 6AM Sunday through Thursday and after midnight Friday and Saturday. Parents can be fined up to $500 for violations. At least 500 U.S. cities have youth curfews. Cities with populations of 180,000 or more have enacted curfews to ensure the safety of our youth. There is, of course both pros and cons about this growing trend in our cities. Officials and cities overwhelming cite the” breakdown of the family” as the need for these safety precautions for our youth. However, in the City of Dallas, in 1991, the curfew was 100% community driven. Edna Pemberton, a decorated community leader, led the charge for a curfew in Dallas. I can remember it well. A meeting was held at Concord Baptist Church with about seven(7)people. As added support for the curfew, early supporters did one-on-one opinion polling, made visit to apartment owners, businesses, community centers and home owners meetings. At this time in our city’s history, there was a highly popular Dallas Community Television (DCTV)

I think my name has power and I want to share my experience in the way of a crusade to educate young African American Males on how to possibly stay alive when approached by the police. What to do when you are detained and/or handcuffed by the police • Keep your hands in sight. NOT in your pockets. Remain calm. Remain silent. Please... no profanity or rebellious moves. • ln case of an irate officer. Ask for a superior to come out to the scene. • lf handcuffed, as I was, commanded to the ground, think and listen. • Obey commands. lf you do not understand ask to repeat. The problem is they are failing us the general public and acting as though they all got their negotiation certification from Trump University! Why not let these high paid public officials share the pain? Why not stop paying the President, the Senators and the members of the House of Representatives. Stop paying their cell phone bills, cut off the phones in their offices and freeze their government credit cards and expense accounts. Turn off the lights in the White House, the Senate and the U. S. 5 Small Ways to Organize for Your Mental Health
1. Throw perfection out the window Organizing is not about perfection, It’s about a quality of life standard. Everyone’s standards are different. As long as the organized environment is in alignment with those standards and it is not infringing upon a quality of life that is obstructing or detrimental to that person’s life, then usually a person will find acceptance and peace from that. 2. Break everything down into bite-sized pieces Look at the overall project that needs to get done… then break it down into different categories. Then rate the
priority of each category, and begin with the level that reduces the anxiety the most. See the entire project, and then see how to accomplish it in a manageable way. 3. Let go of items that don’t serve you It’s not so much about getting organized as it is about how to release and part with their things without shame or guilt. Once this is accomplished, the organizing is usually not an issue. 4. Remove distractions Loud noises, an abundance of clutter, and a to-do list in plain sight can instantly your focus and pull you away from whatever project you are working on. When getting organized, make your surroundings are as soothing as possible through peace and quiet. 5. Visualize the end result See the vision of the end result, and make that vision come alive, whether it’s with a vision board or through journaling. The overall goal is to feel empowered.
