It was a good start to the truncated week as equity benchmarks ended 0.7 percent higher on Tuesday 14101010/02/1403/12/2013 after a long weekend, but Nifty Bank underperformed as investors turned cautious ahead of outcome of two-day Monetary Policy Committee meeting due on Wednesday. The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 213.66 points at 31,497.38 and the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 70.90 points to 9,859.50. The BSE Midcap index gained 0.77 percent and Small cap added 0.5 percent despite tepid market breadth. About 1,433 shares advanced against 1,277 declining shares on the BSE. Nifty October 2017 futures closed at 9868.45 on Tuesday at a premium of 8.95 points over spot closing of 9859.50, while Nifty November 2017 futures ended at 9901.45 at a premium of 41.95 points over spot closing. Nifty October futures saw an addition of 0.73 million (mn) units, taking the total outstanding open interest (OI) to 21.24 mn units. Highest open interest has been seen in 10000 and 9900 strike price for call option and in 9700 and 9800 strike price for put option.
