EF100 - 2020

AS WE ENTER A NEW DECADE, what better way to celebrate the best of British franchises than to acknowledge those who’ve outshone their competitors. In our Elite Franchise league table, we honour the cream of the crop who’ve performed outstandingly over the years, as we continue to fly the flag for franchising finesse in the UK. This year, we’ve received more entries than ever before, with franchises from almost every industry pitting themselves against each other to claim the top spot - from cleaning to coffee, housekeeping to healthcare, tutoring to transport and everything in between. Ranking applicants from 100 to one, the Elite Franchise 100 guide pinpoints the best in the game, whether they’re a long-standing franchise or a budding business paving its way in the industry. But why is the Elite Franchise 100 guide such an important annual offering to the British public? Franchising is more popular than ever before, with over 70,000 employed across various businesses, providing an estimated £17bn income to the UK economy, the recent bfa and NatWest franchise survey 2018 has revealed. Despite that, the sustained growth of franchising is still hiding in plain sight. As a business model, franchising has yet to achieve mass visibility. “It hasn’t got the exposure it deserves – maybe because it’s not a sector or an industry, but a way of working,” says Andy Brattesani, UK Head of Franchising at HSBC, who Elite Franchise are now proud to be working with. At Elite Franchise, we have the privilege of highlighting the country’s most vibrant franchises. The judging process isn’t just about profitability or the scale of businesses, but also the support provided to employees and the benefits they bring to the communities in which they operate. The businesses who’ve made it onto the Elite Franchise 100 2020 ranking are truly exemplary – not just for the franchise scene but also for UK’s entrepreneurial landscape. The rundown features some familiar faces that have been beating the franchise drum for years, effortlessly showcasing the longevity the industry offers. We’ve also seen plenty of newcomers enter the fray and truly made their presence felt this year, proving that there’s still a wealth of opportunities to be capitalised on. With a new year upon us, I want to say a massive thank you to our team for putting so much work into the guide. And an enormous congratulations to our winners of 2020 who have proudly earned their spot in the Elite Franchise 100. Onwards and upwards Elite Franchise Team

COMPUTER XPLORERS

SECTOR EDUCATION

You don’t have to be Bill Gates to enjoy the benefits of being a franchisee of ComputerXplorers, the top-rated education provider which helps kids become the tech superstars of tomorrow computerxplorers.co.uk COMPUTERXPLORERS is the country’s leading provider of computing, coding and programming education for children aged three to 13. Its classes are linked to the national curriculum throughout the UK and, with over 200 pieces of curriculum, lesson plans and parent updates, its range is comprehensive and the breadth of its offering substantial. Servicing after-school clubs, pre-school and nurseries, as well as summer camps, all of ComputerXplorers territories include at least 300 primary schools and 300 pre-schools or nurseries. Having no significant competition, ComputerXplorers is quite unlike any other franchise and is ideal for people who want to combine running their own business with raising a family. As a home-based management franchise, the business benefits from having low operational costs and high margins. And franchisees don’t have to be a budding Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates to apply! While ComputerXplorers look for candidates who are confident with technology and enthusiastic about its benefits, the

franchisees we recruit are trained and managed by a team of people. This means they needn’t be IT experts. Instead, franchisees are responsible for managing and marketing the business, which involves contacting and meeting with professionals, including head teachers, nursery owners and holiday programme leaders. ComputerXplorers is run by The Bardon Group, which owns a stable of four franchise companies and has combined experience of over 70 years in franchising. The company provides massive ongoing support in areas such as curriculum development and business planning, as well as marketing and PR. The franchisor holds regular conference calls and at least one annual network meeting. On top of this, its initial fee includes substantial software licences, a bespoke marketing launch programme, an appointment-generating system, a website, a laptop, marketing material, training, manuals and a licence to trade. And, for a third year in a row, we are included in the list of top 100 UK franchises – and we modestly believe we deserve to be!

B2B Marketing

Simple is often best, as epitomised by DOR-2-DOR who are delivering strong results for both their clients and UK franchise partners franchise.dor2dor.com DOR-2-DOR is the UK’s largest network which specialises in professional printing and leaflet distribution. According to research undertaken by Direct Marketing Association (DMA), letterbox marketing has increased significantly since the early 1990s. This seems remarkable, considering the development of the internet and its various online tools which can distribute pages and pages of material in milliseconds. Letterbox marketing is a

very important and popular method for promoting businesses and local services. It’s a huge part of the £45bn direct marketing industry in the UK, with a large number of companies using door drops to advertise their wares. In 1987, founder & CEO Jeff Frankling started a cooperative direct mail service, specialising in door-to-door distribution of colourful packs of discount vouchers. And, following the phenomenal growth of the letterbox marketing industry, many clients began asking DOR-2-DOR to both print and deliver their leaflets. With a rapidly growing number of clients requiring a reliable distribution service, DOR2-DOR has now developed into a full door-drop marketing business. There are many TV & radio stations, a plethora of magazines, along with an ever expanding number of online outlets. However, there is still usually only one letterbox per residence and, because the medium works so well, advertisers are turning more and more to the door drop, in order to get their messages heard. DOR-2DOR works with local shops, businesses, national franchise chains and government organisations. This tried and tested system of using the simple letterbox has produced exceptional returns on investment for the many clients of DOR-2-DOR. Franchising began in 2001 and has grown to nearly 70 outlets throughout the UK. The franchise includes D2D-Works, a cloud-based bespoke software package which is an essential part of the business model. It has been developed to help maximise orders, while presenting a professional image to customers, as well as those employed to undertake the daily posting of material.

CLEANING AND HYGIENE

TECHCLEAN

Techclean is one of the leading franchises in the service sector, helping to keep staff and office equipment safe from nasty, harmful bacteria. And for a third year in a row is listed as one of the top 100 franchises in the UK techclean.co.uk OFTEN, WHEN something seems too good to be true, it usually is. However, techclean is the exception to the rule, which has helped seal its place in the Elite Franchise 100 list all over again. The Bardon Group’s latest franchise offers new franchisees an opportunity to achieve an amazing return on investment, with many achieving a net profit margin of over 55% within the first year of trading. And it’s easy to see why, as there is a huge demand for these services. In today’s competitive world, a safe working environment, while ensuring the wellbeing of staff, is high on most companies’ list of priorities. Swab tests have proved there are more harmful bacteria on a computer keyboard than on a toilet seat. Office cleaners may flick a duster over a keyboard, and wipe around a desk, but this rarely achieves the level of cleanliness essential

to keeping bugs at bay and extending the life of the equipment. This is where techclean come in. The franchise meets this growing demand from businesses and organisations by providing a top quality cleaning service for office equipment that comes into regular contact with human hands. By doing this, techclean has become the market leader in its field. In today’s ever-growing market, techclean’s customers include household names such as Porsche and Disney, as well as banks, law companies, call centres, schools, hospitals and universities. Each franchisee will head up a generouslysized territory that covers at least 10,000 businesses. No premises are needed, making the franchise a perfect business to run from home and with minimal outlay. The ideal owner will be well organised, ambitious and good with people, and ideally have an aptitude for sales and marketing. No previous cleaning experience is required as full training is given.

DOG FIRST AID dog-first-aid.com/franchise THERE ARE nine million dogs in the UK, with 26% of the UK population actually owning one. Another fact is that the majority of dogs require first aid more than once in their lives. Dog First Aid Franchise Limited is an award-winning organisation that holds CPD accredited workshops, both for the benefit of animal lovers and also small businesses which cater for our four-legged friends. Our franchise partners enjoy the freedom to choose their own working hours and their levels of income. They also help people to help their dogs, while being their own boss. We believe it is a win-win-win situation all round!

MUSICAL MOMENTS musical-moments.co.uk/franchise MUSICAL MOMENTS is one of the leading music activity providers for the care home industry. Established nine years ago, and franchising since 2017, the organisation has grown substantially and now provides interactive music-based activities at 23 locations in the UK. Musical Moments was inspired by a personal experience of dementia, with the purpose of fusing music, exercise, sensory activities and reminisces, into one interactive package for care homes. Our client base has grown and we also work with charities, community groups and adults with additional needs, but our model is focused primarily for care homes. This franchise opportunity gives the franchisee everything they need to run an enjoyable and rewarding business. The business can be run part-time or full-time, and allows the franchisee to build an exclusive territory, employ staff, and all with an option to extend the size of their region. Working at two care homes a day, and five days a week, provides an excellent income that fits around family commitments. This business also gives the franchisee plenty of opportunity to work from home. Working with the older generation is extremely rewarding: No two days are the same and we build genuine relationships with clients which can last for years. Following a recent survey, our members unanimously recommended becoming a Musical Moments franchisee.

FILTAFRY filtafryplus.co.uk FOR OVER 20 years FiltaFry has been providing an outstanding franchise concept that specialises in cleaning deep fryers and recycling cooking oil. It’s rare that environmental initiatives go hand-in-hand with profit strategies, but FiltaFry is a green franchise that has managed to combine the two. To date it operates in over 13 countries around the world with more than 350 franchisees. In times of economic uncertainty, businesses that deal in food production, such as restaurants, hotels, schools, stadiums and hospitals look to reduce overheads in any way they can. FiltaFry offers a niche service that

blends the benefits of cost reduction with the social responsibility of being eco-friendly. The service provides an on-site fryer management service which includes temperature calibration, oil micro-filtration and a thorough vacuumbased detail cleaning of each fryer, every visit. The cleaning and maintenance of commercial fryers can be a dangerous task for employees which can often result in serious burns, falls and other injuries. FiltaFry eliminates these risks by providing a quick, safe, clean and cost effective service to maintain fryers without interrupting day to day operations.

TRAVEL

THE HOLIDAY FRANCHISE COMPANY The Holiday Franchise Company is the only travel business accredited by both The Approved Franchise Association and British Franchise Association and, in 2020, makes its debut in our top-100 list holidayfranchisecompany.com

022

ESTABLISHED in 2016, The Holiday Franchise Company was created after recognising a need to welcome new people into the travel industry. We were particularly interested in those who don’t necessarily have business experience but amazing skill sets, and an obvious passion for travelling. So we developed a unique franchise model, which allows us to utilise and build on our franchisees’ own travel experiences. As part of Hays IG, we have access to more than 500 suppliers, so we can tailor our franchisees’ businesses to fit their preferred specialist areas. And we are owned by multi-award winning business Holidaysplease, which began trading in 2002 with just a £6k investment. However, it now turns over in excess of £27m per year, so we fully understand what is required to create and run a successful online travel agency. Our franchisees work with travel professionals, who

fully understand the industry and the challenges they will face. We have developed a training programme, plus a range of tools, to ensure franchisees have the skills they need. All our training is one-toone, which allows us to focus on their personal and business needs, while filling in their knowledge gaps where necessary. The same team supports a franchisee throughout their journey, from the initial inquiry to going live. This means we have intimate knowledge of the franchisee and their business. Our model puts the franchisee in control. We help them to create a brand identity, but hand over all intellectual property rights to the franchisee. We don’t want people to be connected to us because we own them. We would much rather earn their loyalty, and retain their confidence, because we offer them the highest levels of support.

DOMESTIC ANGELS It’s only been three years since Domestic Angels spread their wings and became a franchise, but they are already flying high as a new entry in our list of the UK’s top 100 franchise.domestic-angels.com DOMESTIC ANGELS was founded in Dorset 18 years ago by Samantha Acton. As a sole trader, Samantha would provide housework services for private homes and this was the way it remained until 2017, when she made the decision to enter the UK franchise market. After years of evolving and rubbing down any rough edges, this multi-awardwinning business model became a franchisor. First franchisee through the doors was Deborah Broomfield from Christchurch. Deborah says: “This has given me an amazing business opportunity, but at the same time the ability to manage and spend time with my family.” And Domestic Angels continues to go from strength-to-strength, thanks

to its strong business model, ethos and moral framework, all of which contribute to this unique successful franchise formula. Founder Samantha proudly explains: “We are still a home-based business and proud of it. Each franchisee enjoys personal and extensive support from the leadership team and business family, including weekly contact, monthly oneto-ones and regular meetings focussed on well-being.” In-house software and book-keeping is managed centrally, allowing franchisees to focus on development and service. Samantha adds: “We are unashamedly parents first and foremost. This is a parttime, home-based franchise, providing a lot of employment and ensuring that franchisees can be the parents and relatives they need to be. We have the work-life balance nailed. It’s what makes all of us tick and puts a smile on our faces while we work.” When you become part of Domestic Angels, you not only become part of a business, you become part of a movement that allows everyone to take control of their time, lives and money. As Poole franchisee, Charlotte Waldron, says: “Not only has this given me the chance to fulfil my own business goals, it also means I have the freedom to manage my own time with my family.”

TIDY GREEN CLEAN is a hit with customers and staff alike, while also meeting its targets for being an environmentally-friendly business. Starting up with minimal costs and finance, Tidy Green Clean (TGC) is one of a kind in the UK, as it elevates the role of cleaner to that of an entrepreneur. Its unique commercial cleaning franchise model offers staff entrepreneurial opportunities, while providing environmentally-sound practices for its clients. Founded by Andrew Alleway and David Moncur in 2016, TGC prides itself on taking an ethical approach to business. TGC successfully meets global environmental standards (ISO14001) for those companies claiming green credentials and has put a commitment to protecting the surrounding environment at the heart of its business. TGC has also achieved ISO9001 for quality management systems and ISO45001 for health and safety. Its aim, since day one, has been to build strong working relationships with its customers, knowing that personal service and attention really does make a difference. It has comprehensively overhauled the use of technology within the industry, developing tools to revolutionise staff and site management. This gives franchisees secure control over their operations, while providing customers with transparency and total confidence in the services they receive.

LINGOTOT lingotot.com/franchise

LINGOTOT is celebrating its 10th anniversary by becoming a new entry in Elite Franchise’s top 100 list. This innovative enterprise makes the learning of languages child’s play, and has been doing so since Angela Sterling founded the company in 2010. Angela is a fully qualified teacher whose GCSE students are some of the best in the world. She has worked for the universities of Newcastle and Southampton, researching the

acquisition of language for different age groups. Angela wanted to give children the opportunity to experience and explore new languages, as well as different cultures, while reaping the allround benefits of learning. Since the BBC attended Lingotot’s first-ever class, the business has enjoyed rapid growth and now teaches around 20,000 children each week, via a network of over 50 franchisees. Uniquely, Lingotot offers OfQual regulated teaching qualifications for franchisees, in addition to personalised ongoing support. Once signed up to Lingotot, franchisees are in a position to enjoy the level of flexibility and success they seek. When a franchisee joins the Lingotot family, they become part of a network of friendly and supportive professionals who have all worked hard to make the company the number one children’s language franchise in the UK. Lingotot has embarked on an ambitious global expansion plan and has signed their first franchisee in Ireland, with more countries to follow.

BODYSTREET

Rising five spots up our Elite Franchise top 100 list for 2020 is Bodystreet, who illustrate how ‘small and short’ can often reap the greatest dividends bodystreetuk.co.uk OUR STUDIOS, unlike traditional gyms, are operated in small premises which require investment levels that are much lower than most businesses in the fitness sector. We believe our franchise will appeal to those seeking a business that isn’t just driven by membership numbers. Our focus is on client engagement, helping them to achieve great fitness through our once-a-week, 20-minute workout. Yes, you did hear that correctly: ‘Just oncea-week and just 20-minutes’, making it very appealing to those who work long arduous hours. This will also sound appealing to potential franchisees too. Our mission just happens to be: The joy of living. Alongside doctors, health centres and physiotherapists, fitness studios such as Bodystreet can play a central role in helping improve the overall health of the nation. Those who stay fit are less prone to physical and psychological illnesses. Our accredited apprenticeship programmes lead to a Foundation Degree in Business Management.

Our commitment to training isn’t just for teams working in studios. Our continuous development programme, which runs throughout the year, helps our franchisees to develop their skills and knowledge base too. The objective of any franchise is to provide franchisees with a platform to achieve their ambitions and goals. With more than 300 studios successfully established, our franchisees have access to a system that is fully tried and tested. Many of the time-consuming processes have been taken care of for your benefit. Bodystreet has grown from one studio in Munich, to a successful operation in seven countries. And we’ve received many accolades along the way. These include Franchisor of the Year in Germany for 2016, and becoming a member of The British Franchise Association 12 months later. During 2019, we passed the 12 million milestone regarding the number of training sessions we have undertaken during our existence. If ‘the joy of living’ appeals to you, then Bodystreet are waiting for your call.

DIDDI DANCE

diddidance.com

DIDDI DANCE provides classes for boys and girls aged five and under, and can be hired for parties, as well as nursery and school sessions. Activities include original music, multiple dance props and unique lesson plans, with syllabuses aimed at engaging and educating children. With an ongoing focus on getting children moving, diddi dance continues to grow across the UK as one of the leading providers of dance classes to pre-schoolers. It began as a single class in 2003 in south-east London. As interest grew in 2006, Anne-Marie Martin, the founder, looked into franchising the concept, so she furthered the format of her classes, which guaranteed new dance styles.

68

These were launched every half-term, over a two-year programme, aimed at keeping lessons fresh and fun. After producing a few diddi dance pilots between 2006 and 2009, franchising was officially launched 10 years ago. Since then, diddi dance has grown and currently has over 40 franchises. Franchisees are in business for themselves but not by themselves. It gives them the flexibility to work around family life, and they also have the valued support of Martin’s experience and her support team to help guide them whenever necessary. With its huge commitment to ongoing support, while remaining open to innovative ideas from its network, diddi dance really is an allsinging, all-dancing franchise.

HAVING TRADED in the B2B sector for more than four decades, Kall Kwik has clearly made an impression on the Elite Franchise 100 judges – yet again. And it can credit its considerable longevity to always being prepared to meet change head-on, while remaining customercentric at all times. Kall Kwik is much more than print and design. The Kall Kwik business services concept offers a low entry cost to the marketplace and, by outsourcing highend production, ensures lower ongoing operating costs – thus increasing net margins. Successful franchisees have broadened their services to include web design, email marketing and web-toprint, and even providing marketing advice and services to local businesses – ranging from creating, printing, distributing and ultimately following up a direct marketing campaign to fulfilling and sourcing specialist printing services. Today, Kall Kwik franchisees are ideally placed to take advantage of

the estimated 5.7m SMEs in the UK marketplace, not to mention the thousands of schools, charities and local government organisations. The cost of entry is very competitive at around £50,000 – excluding shop fees and VAT. This covers the right to use the brand, training, marketing launch, equipment and ongoing business support from The Bardon Group team. RIDICULOUSLY RICH Ridiculously Rich by Alana is a new entry in this year’s list of the UK’s top 100 franchises, with Alana Spencer’s business growing considerably since she won the BBC’s The Apprentice three years ago ridiculouslyrichbyalana.co.uk

RIDICULOUSLY RICH by Alana was created by director Alana Spencer, who won the BBC’s entertainment programme, The Apprentice, in 2016, and in the process secured an investment from business partner Lord Alan Sugar. Prior to this success, Alana had been baking and selling her delicious range of food products at farmers markets, food festivals and country shows all across the United Kingdom. She had done this for around seven years. Thanks to the success of the existing model, it was Lord Sugar and his advisor Claude Litner who suggested Alana should franchise the business. In May 2017, Alana interviewed and brought on board her first 20 franchisees, based all across the UK, and ready to grow their own businesses by following in Alana’s footsteps.

Alana insisted that her franchise opportunity should be affordable to all, so that anyone who wanted to start a venture could have a business of their own. She wanted to help those who either didn’t know where to begin, or couldn’t afford the hefty start-up cost, That is why you can become a Ridiculously Rich by Alana ambassador for a one-off fee of only £1,000. This covers a full market stall set up, an online training program, private ambassador group for news and updates, as well as a dedicated ambassador and wholesale manager available to offer constant ongoing support throughout your journey. Alana has since introduced a second, even more affordable franchise opportunity to encourage others to join her growing business and she currently has 70 franchises selling at events, to retailers and the public, all across the UK. Ridiculously Rich by Alana regularly expands the range on offer. There are now 10 flavours in the core range, plus two brand new flavours introduced as specials every month. They offer a subscription service, online orders and gift vouchers to all their customers.

LITTLE VOICES littlevoices.org.uk

Rising up through the ranks of Elite Franchise’s top 100 is Little Voices, whose aim is to inspire children realise their true potential STARTING OUT 13 years ago, Little Voices opened its doors with the aim of building confidence and nurturing talent, through inspirational education in music and drama. We focus on children aged four-to-18, using a syllabus developed by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). With a growing network of 27 franchisees, the business boasts several prestigious awards, including Industry Champion of 2019, as chosen by the Children’s Activities Association. The Little Voices team are passionate about helping all of their pupils reach their full potential. Thanks to small class sizes, our trained singing and drama tutors can focus on the individual child. We build confidence and nurture talent through fun and engaging lessons, while facilitating a child’s development vocally, dramatically, personally, socially and beyond. Co-founder and managing director, Jane Maudsley, recognised that skills acquired through music and drama education go way beyond performance. She says: “It’s the things that children learn that they can transfer into other areas. Such as life skills like eye contact, posture, breathing, handling anxiety and nerves, communicating effectively with the spoken word, good diction and pronunciation.”

Lessons take place after school and often within schools, meaning there is no weekend commitment, which may encroach on all-important family time. Recognising that children enjoy performance, our school holiday Theatre Weeks give them a chance to learn new skills, make new friends and, more importantly, have fun and put on a show. With schools under pressure to focus on core subjects, such as maths and English, there’s never been a better time to invest in the performing arts business. Little Voices has a proven system and support network that enables their franchisees to build a successful future.

Jane is fully focused on supporting her franchisees, so helping them reach their true potential, too: “We want the best for every child, every parent, every tutor and every franchisee. Our culture, values and beliefs enable us to deliver outstanding LAMDA education in drama and singing within a safe, fun and creative environment.”

STORAGE

EASYSTORAGE The UK has witnessed steady growth in the self-storage sector during recent years, with easyStorage a market-leader in this field, rising six places up our top 100 table easystorage.com/franchise FROM THE same stable as low-cost airline easyJet comes easyStorage which offers a refreshingly low-cost option to self-storage. The self-storage sector has witnessed steady growth for many years, since arriving in the UK during the 1980s. In recent years, the availability of land suitable for self-storage warehouses has become scarce and is now at a premium. As a result, consumers have suffered greatly. The average cost of storage in London has risen to £360/month, with £180/month outside of the costly capital. Although the UK market is thriving, it is only 10% of the size of its US counterpart. In the States, storage is considerably cheaper and also far more accessible. easyStorage was the brainchild of CEO Tim Slesinger, who wanted to introduce a more convenient, lower cost option, to customers. The solution was simple, take the storage ‘room’ to the customer rather than asking the customer to travel to a suitable storage facility. By storing in traditional warehouses, without the need for access corridors, lifts and mezzanines, more of the space can be used for the purpose of storing items. This meant increasing efficiency and reducing costs, while providing a more convenient service.

Customers can still access their items because storage pods can be delivered back to their doors. As with collection, transport is free, but charges apply if being returned outside of the area. easyStorage has been able to reduce storage costs by up to 60%, while providing a more convenient service for its customers. “Our franchise has been designed to be relatively low cost,” says Nigel Dawson its franchise director. “Franchisees do not have to own a warehouse, as easyStorage provides the storage facilities. It’s all about building a business to scale, with the recurring monthly revenue making this an extremely attractive one. Our investment in technology, along with franchise support and infrastructure, not to mention our trusted brand called ‘easy’, all means that a new franchise can launch from a position of strength,” he added.

FANTASTIC SERVICES A new entry in 2020 is Fantastic Services, which takes the stress out of managing customers. While you get on with your daily work, smart technology looks after all of your administration fantasticservices.com

ESTABLISHED 2009 INVESTMENT LEVEL £2,000 £200,000 NUMBER OF FRANCHISES 450 SECTOR PROPERTY MAINTENANCE

FANTASTIC SERVICES was founded in 2009 by Anton Skarlatov and Rune Sovndahl. Since then, we’ve made it our mission to make booking domestic services easy, while providing a safe space for small enterprise owners to grow their business. Over the past decade we’ve invested more than £6m in developing technology, which has helped make our company the leading domestic services provider. Our online platform allows customers to make a booking from a list of more than 25 services. This process takes less than five minutes to complete. Thanks to our custom CRM software, which is tailored to your needs, everything between the customer and the franchisee is synchronised, with real-life updates. This automates the work schedule of our franchisees, enabling them to reach more customers, more quickly. The communication between franchisee and customer is seamless thanks to two mobile apps. Customers can book and keep track of

their services through our GoFantastic app. In the meantime, franchisees can see, edit and plan their schedule via the BFantastic app – which is fully integrated with our CRM. All of this makes Fantastic Services stand out from the crowd, as all of our franchisees are business owners who enjoy access to state-of-the-art technology. This allows them to run a business without worrying about marketing, customer support or whether some big company will take control of their share of the market. We’ve worked hard to make Fantastic Services a haven where domestic service providers can grow their business in a professional, safe and profitable way. On top of that, we provide full training, mentoring, on-going support and an online academy where our partners can log-in and learn new skills – or even polish up old ones. Franchisees have the full support of over 450 of our staff members who take care of marketing, tech support, sales, customer care, business development and accounting.

HERITAGE HEALTHCARE has been a trusted provider of expert homecare since 2009. The husband and wife team of Glenn and Sally Pickersgill formed the company in Redcar & Cleveland, before turning it into a franchise business a few years later. Glenn is chief executive, with Sally a director, and in 2014 they welcomed their first franchise office, which was opened by Jameela Kotawala in Cardiff. Since that memorable day, Jameela has expanded her business and now owns two territories, the other being Swansea. Going into 2020, the franchise network now covers 21 offices, spanning England and Wales. Heritage Healthcare’s focus is to provide highquality care and support to clients, so they can remain living independently at home. The brand delivers a range of care services, each tailored to the individual and their unique needs. Upon signing a franchise agreement, new franchisees take part in a comprehensive training programme, which covers topics such as finance, marketing, IT, and they also create business plans. All of these help

prepare the franchisee to launch their own business. The dedicated support, provided by various head office departments, sets the care company apart from their competitors. Marketing and finance support is run at the franchisor’s HQ in Darlington. The marketing department works with franchisees to create unique artwork, deliver campaigns and support digital marketing. The high level of support provided by our national support team was recognised twice during 2019, when the franchise was named ‘Best National Support Team’ and ‘Most Outstanding Home Care Team’, at the Home Care Awards. The brand continues to grow across the UK and aims to expand the franchise network by a further 10 offices during 2020. Our directors are also looking at different ways to provide a new platform, which would allow existing franchisees to share their resources, advice and best practice. This would further enhance our network’s ability to offer the best high-quality care and support in the healthcare business.

CAFE2U Leaping into the top 40 in 2020 is Cafe2U, who continue to take the delivery of high quality coffee, food and service, to a new, exciting level cafe2u.co.uk

CAFE2U is the UK’s premier mobile coffee business. Since 2004 we have been providing our customers with a welcome break to their working day, plus a gourmet coffee experience that simply cannot be recreated anywhere else. Our growing network of almost 100 vans serves thousands of happy customers every day, all over the UK, and at what we describe as nontraditional locations. From office parks and industrial estates, to community and sporting events, we are ready to serve those who require a stress-free few minutes or simply a few seconds on their own or with valued friends. We take pride in delivering consistent high-quality, be it coffee, food or

customer experience. We recruit, train and support the best franchisees to the utmost of our ability. We care about our customers, our people, our suppliers and the planet. The coffee industry is booming and we are searching for our next success story. The industry is now worth more than £9.6bn in the UK – and growing. Cafe2U’s exclusive coffee blend is at the heart of our success, and is the principal reason customers keep coming back. Our coffee blend is selected from some of the finest coffee growing regions in the world, roasted to a unique recipe, packaged and shipped in a manner that means it is usually less than two to four weeks old when opened by our franchisees. The year 2019 was important for Cafe2U. Not only were we officially recognised as the UK’s number one mobile coffee franchise, we were also listed in the country’s top 20 franchises overall. However, in 2020, we aim to

take things to a whole new level. First, we will be investing heavily in our green credentials, building on the ongoing research into recyclable cups. We will also move from diesel to battery power. We are determined to lead the way and 2020 will feature our third annual ‘Green Coffee Week.’ Second, we are excited to be launching our customer app. This investment is directly for the benefit of our franchisees, allowing them to engage with their customers like never before. The app will alert customers to where the vans are, and notify them when they are arriving. It will also feature a digital loyalty card and allow customers to see the latest offers and drinks available. Delivering this state-of-theart technology is just one part of the tools we are developing to make our franchisees’ businesses so successful. In 2020, we will also be rolling out a brand refresh for Cafe2U. We have

worked with a team of design experts to ensure our brand represents where we are as a business, leading the way in both the coffee industry and franchising as a whole. Our mobile coffee shops will continue to serve award-winning coffee to their customers, supported by our market-leading customer service. With our developments and dedication to push Cafe2U forward as a business, we will offer franchisees support like never before. The year 2020 is set to be a landmark moment for the business which will be 15 years old – but we won’t stand still – the best is yet to come.

BUSINESS DOCTORS FRANCHISING Sixteen years and counting, Business Doctors continues to serve small and medium size enterprises with its valued support and franchise advice businessdoctors.co.uk THE JOURNEY for Business Doctors began when founders Matthew Levington and Rod Davies met in 2004 for a beer and discovered that they shared a passion for business support. Having witnessed some very poor business support service being provided by both big consultancies and small independents over the years, they were inspired to create something different that resonated with the market and added real value to SMEs. They established Business Doctors with the aim of providing business support services to SMEs. Nearly 15 years on, the Business Doctors network now spans across 90 offices in the UK and around the globe covering countries including Dubai, Ireland, India, South Africa, Myanmar, Cyprus and Malta. Business Doctors specialises in supporting SMEs, helping them to fulfil

their true potential. The franchisors are a network of experienced business people, passionate about sharing their skills and knowledge. From successful entrepreneurs to corporate leaders, they come from all industry sectors to give small businesses the help they need. Whilst operating within the consulting industry, the franchisors aren’t traditional consultants. Their approach is different and involves getting into the nuts and bolts of companies providing practical advice at every step. The franchisor’s aim is to offer hands-on support to business owners, enabling them to overcome their individual challenges and achieve their aspirations for growth. Taken from MBA theory, Business Doctors has developed a business growth model delivered with a no-nonsense, jargon-free approach, designed to help people achieve their vision. Business Doctors has already helped develop and transform hundreds of companies across a wide spectrum of industries, filling a gap in the market between the big four consultancies and specialist individuals.

CHOPSTIX NOODLE BAR Enjoying its highest ever position in the list of top 100 UK franchises is Chopstix Noodle Bar, who believe simplicity is the key to success chopstixgroup.com CHOPSTIX NOODLE BAR opened its doors in central London 19 years ago, with the aim of making Pan-Asian cuisine accessible to mass market customers. We wanted to provide a fast-service, and casual environment, to all those who walked into our restaurant. Since then the brand has grown rapidly and now trades in more than 60 locations across the UK and Ireland. We are now at a stage where we are welcoming experienced, energetic, multi-unit franchise partners to join us on this journey of growth. A key factor in our success is operational simplicity. In short, difficult food made easy. We have simplified our recipes and developed ingredients, which has assisted the

brand’s scalability. Low skill labour requirements, and improved cost efficiencies, mean we can deliver high profit margins and a solid return on investment. Our focus on being faster, fresher and tastier, drives our brand and culture. The average transaction time, from ordering to providing customers with a hot counter style service, is less than one minute. And our processing of over five million transactions every year is seamless. Chopstix has several formats and continues to develop its portfolio on high streets, shopping centres, motorway service stations and travel hubs. Depending on the type of format selected, capital investment ranges between £75k and £200k. Having

begun our franchise journey in 2015, with both Applegreen and Welcome Break, we have developed a dedicated support team to enable our ambitious expansion plans. Bidfood is our nominated distribution partner and our target is to become the global brand of choice in Pan Asian QSR. So we are extending this opportunity to those who would like to join us on that journey and become one of our recognised F&B franchise partners.

IN 2006, Liverpool-based Simon Labone joined Dublcheck, which is a leading contract cleaning management franchise. Simon left behind a full-time sales position but has not looked back since. His dynamic and enthusiastic approach to running his franchise has seen his turnover grow from £50k per year to £940k. This is his story: “I was desperate to be my own boss and be in control of my own future. I discovered Dublcheck at a franchise exhibition, and then had a meeting with Carol (Dublcheck’s founder) at head office, and this led to me coming on board. The entire process was very quick, about three to four months in total. This included one week’s training at head office, then a mentor for the first year. “I receive daily support, from legal to invoicing and operations, and head office are always happy to help. We had our first contract very quickly and, by the end of the year, we had more than our initial obligation. It was so important to be part of a franchise and a member of a network. It gives you a real structure with loads of backup. It means you can concentrate on just getting going. Knowing you have a sales team working for you is a real benefit.” Simon says his days are varied and fulfilling: “It’s very diverse and can involve a number of activities. This is a management franchise, so usually I check-in with my area manager in the morning and then deal with customer queries and emails. After that, I go out to see customers and may quote for new business if there have been enquiries. I may also oversee any interviews or deal with any administration, such as payroll or ordering supplies.” And it’s been a rewarding journey so far. Simon goes on: “There have been

I receive daily support, from legal to invoicing and operations, and head office are always happy to help many fantastic moments over the past decade but I think being named Franchise of the Year was a great achievement. This was down to a lot of hard work over a number of years from my team. I am in control of my working week and can be flexible if needed. The business has performed financially, and if you put in the hard work, the rewards are there. It’s great to have happy customers and this gives me fulfilment – plus, I have a great team around me.” As for the future: “To keep working hard and growing the business. I’m confident because this is a recessionproof sector – offices always need cleaning. And I would always recommend franchising. I am pleased I went with Dublcheck. It has worked for me and I believe the support and backup of Dublcheck, coupled with the commercial cleaning market, is a winner. But remember one thing: You still need determination and a willingness to take ownership of the process. Dublcheck will provide you with all the support, but ultimately you must commit to the opportunity and give it 100-per-cent.”

MONKEY MUSIC is widely regarded as the UK’s leading influence in pre-school music education. Each week, over 700 hours of classes are taught to more than 20,000 children across the length and breadth of the country. Founded more than 25 years ago, by CEO Angie Coates, Monkey Music has become a rite of passage for families everywhere. Since it started, over 2.4m hours of classes have been taught by highly skilled teachers who have used their singing talents to amass total revenues of more than £40m. At the heart of the Monkey Music success story is its brilliant ‘bible’, which has hundreds of catchy and original songs. These form the basis of our four-stage age-specific curricula, which was written by Angie and a team of musicians, along with child development experts. The popularity of the brand continues to grow, with many new innovative ideas. These include the recent release of song downloads and a series of children’s books, while a highly anticipated 2020 launch will feature a bespoke range of percussion

instruments for children. All of this is underpinned by an excellent franchise network which thrives by sharing best practice. Each franchisee brings their own distinctive personality and flair to classes, and they come from all walks of life. However, they all have four things in common: The ability to run their own business, the desire to work flexible hours, a strong work ethos and the belief in the value of early music education. And all of this while enjoying the benefits of ongoing advice from the specialist Monkey Music head office team who offer franchisee support in all aspects of business development including management, recruitment, marketing, legal systems and operations. The power and joy of Monkey Music is recognised by Elite Magazine who continues to rank us in the Top 100 UK franchises.

VODAFONE High street giant Vodafone is a rising star of this year’s top 100. They are also hoping to entice new franchisees with the bonus of no upfront fee vodafone.com/franchise

VODAFONE is one of the world's leading mobile communications providers, operating in 26 countries and in partnership with networks in over 55 more. Across the world, they have more than 440m customers, with 19.5m of these in the UK. Vodafone has always been a company of firsts, one that strives to be a market-leader. They were the first to launch a cellular network and make the first call on it in 1985 – and they’ve continued breaking the mould ever since. In 2019, they successfully launched 5G, which is powered by their awardwinning network. They conducted the world’s first holographic call and the first demonstration of 5G powered haptic technology. They were also the first company to offer unlimited data on both 5G and 4G, with the launch of Vodafone Unlimited. When it comes to franchising, Vodafone has exactly the same attitude. Although their Partner Programme only launched in August 2017, the network has grown rapidly. In 2019, alone, they celebrated the opening of their 100th, 150th and 200th franchised stores. Vodafone has become a member of the British Franchise Association (bfa), as well as the body Encouraging Women Into Franchising (EWIF). They are wholly committed to their vision of an exciting future and to help bring everyone with them, by continuing to deliver fantastic services and innovative products for all their customers. As a franchisor, they have adopted a similar approach: Their Partner Programme is access friendly, hands on, and constantly looks to its network of partners in order to learn and evolve. There is no upfront cost, which removes a barrier for many wishing to get into franchising, but who don’t have the ready capital. There is a three store per partner policy, which encourages franchisees to be dedicated, involved, and keen brand ambassadors. But that’s not all. As part of their plans to franchise 75% of their retail estate, they have started opening brand new stores in new locations – and franchisee owned. This is Vodafone’s approach to reinvigorating the high street for retail purposes.

It’s underpinned by a set of values that puts the customer at the heart of everything DYNO does, which is why it’s constantly looking at ways to improve both the service it gives to customers and the relationship with franchisees. The franchisor prides itself on delivering excellent levels of customer service and is constantly looking for ways to improve, which really impressed the Elite Franchise 100 judges. On a local level, franchisees can tap into a wide portfolio of marketing materials to support their activities and all have commercial customers they look after in the area. Another key feature of its business is the relationship it has with British Gas. DYNO provides a high-level service to British Gas Homecare customers, which means that each DYNO franchise enjoys a ready-made customer base that can provide a valuable income stream to complement the local on-demand market and commercial customers generated by the franchisee. Based on financial success alone, DYNO received plenty of kudos from our judges and has evidently earned its place in the Elite Franchise 100 rankings. But when one of the factors is the fact that it has been a franchising fixture since 1963, there is no doubt in our minds that this cornerstone of the community deserves to be ranked as one of Britain’s brightest franchises.

AUTOSMART INTERNATIONAL Moving up 16 places in this year’s Elite Franchise top 100 list, and into the top 20, is Autosmart, one of the motoring industry’s major players autosmart.co.uk AUTOSMART was founded in 1979 by a husband and wife team who saw the success of franchising in America. They wanted to use this business format to distribute vehicle cleaning products from shops on wheels, which they described as mobile showrooms. From these small beginnings in the Midlands, the company grew steadily into an international market-leading brand. Autosmart is committed to helping its owner-operator franchisees build profitable and recessionproof businesses. In the UK alone, Autosmart has more than 120 vanbased franchisees who sell to the trade from a range of over 200 vehicle cleaning products. There are a further 100 franchisees internationally, and numerous agents in countries from

Iceland to Trinidad and Tobago. Autosmart’s core market will always be car dealerships, haulage companies and those who provide valeting services. It is a UK market that is worth £3bn. Outside of this, Autosmart’s franchisees sell their consumables to any company that has a cleaning need, opening up massive opportunities for business growth. Eddie Stobart, the UK’s best known haulier, has trusted us to clean its entire fleet of vehicles since 1979. Autosmart’s franchisees are known for their personality, backed up by a professional and can-do attitude. But it’s not just about selling products. Their specialist knowledge and expert advice is equally valuable. Franchisees love their work and it shows. The proof of the pudding is the longevity of these

relationships: Most franchisees have been partners with Autosmart for over a decade. On average, new franchisees grow their turnover by 33% during the first year of trading. Even before franchisees start, there is an initial meeting with their regional business manager, during which they will complete a booklet called ‘Passport to Success’. They will discuss their personal dreams and goals, and tie this into a business plan. Autosmart franchisees are competitive and entrepreneurial, with a can-do attitude, and are constantly striving for more. Franchisees come from all sorts of backgrounds but what they have in common is commitment, a desire to enjoy being self-employed, drive, determination and an appetite for hard work.

PLATINUM PROPERTY PARTNERS platinumpropertypartners.co.uk

Allow Platinum Property Partners to steer you safely through the minefield of building your own property portfolio, on your journey to financial security WHAT’S THE BIGGEST barrier to starting your own business and enjoying the freedom that comes with being your own boss? Perhaps it’s a lack of confidence? Or maybe there’s a degree of uncertainty at stepping into the unknown? The good news is these are barriers Platinum Property Partners (PPP) have been breaking down for more than a decade. There’s no better way to push past uncertainty than by following a tried, tested and proven business model. And if you’re being held back by a crisis of confidence, there’s no better way to overcome that than being part of a network of experienced people who will support, guide and nurture you, as you embark on a journey that could change your life for the better.

Platinum combines the certainty of franchising, with the security of property, underpinned by an investment model which promotes healthy, sustainable cash flow as well as capital growth. They have worked with more than 379 Franchise Partners over 12 years – all of whom are enjoying more income, more freedom and a greater legacy through their HMO (House in Multiple Occupancy) property investment. The best thing about Platinum, however, is its people. An experienced network of partners who are passionate and knowledgeable, and a highly experienced, dedicated head office team, all working with a common goal in mind: To help people like you build a life they love. With a Platinum franchise, you’ll learn how to build a portfolio of profitable, sustainable and robust HMOs for professional house sharers. You’ll get ongoing support, education and mentoring throughout your franchise agreement, to help you find the right properties in the right locations as you grow your business. Platinum will help you with cost-effective renovations, advice on navigating planning permission and guidance on how to stay compliant as a landlord. It’s a system that works well and has done for more than a decade. So much so, that Platinum Franchise Partners, on average, achieve annual incomes of between £50k and £150k, and an average annual return on investment of 10-15%. Not only that, unlike many other franchises, you own their assets from day one, meaning you benefit from long-term capital growth as well as a lifelong income. Their Franchise Partners come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some are company directors, while many others have been accountants or solicitors. Many have run their own businesses or had a career in industry, teaching or the NHS. Some are mothers looking to find a suitable career as their children grow up. Some Franchise Partners like Mark Greening, have already been involved in franchising, but have found that some traditional UK franchises can be too time-consuming. “I had five fast food outlets, which were a great source of income, but they were very timeintensive as a business,” says Mark. “I also realised, through my bank manager, that if I turned the business upside down and gave it a good shake,

I’d have nothing left – no assets and no income. That’s why I invested my time and money into a Platinum franchise instead.” Of course, a PPP franchise will not be for everyone. Financially, partners must have investment capital of between £300k and £700k to fund the purchase of their first property, with the exact amount depending on the chosen investment location and size of the portfolio they wish to build. But if your capital is in place and you’re looking to make it work harder for you, then a PPP franchise could be what you’re looking for to safeguard your financial future, build a lifestyle you’ll love and put in place a lasting legacy for your family.

The best thing about Platinum, is its people

HOME CARE

BLUEBIRD CARE It simply gets bigger and better for Bluebird Care whose commitment to delivering high quality, in-the-home care, continues to reach new levels of excellence bluebirdcarefranchise.co.uk WHEN PAUL and Lisa Tarsey decided it was time for care in the home to be brought into the 21st century, they set up Bluebird Care in 2004. The husband and wife team felt very strongly that someone needed to revolutionise the way care was being delivered in the UK. And from starting out 16 years ago, Paul and Lisa set about building one of the UK’s largest providers of care and support for people who wanted the option to remain in their own home. By concentrating on high quality customer service, while upholding the very best in professional care provision, Bluebird Care became an instant hit and after just two years opted to become a franchise business.

Bluebird Care now has a dedicated Franchise Support Centre with over 30 employees, who have collectively built up 300 years of experience in the care sector and almost 200 years in the franchise sector. We offer extensive support to our network throughout their journey as a franchise owner. Every territory has its own dedicated business development manager and quality manager, ready to assist the franchisee. We are keen to ensure our business model continues to develop and adapt, so that our franchise owners can branch out and offer a bespoke service to its customers. In 2019, we launched our brand-new Health & Wellbeing Checks service. This unique offering uses technology to monitor a customer’s health, and is ready to spot early signs of any decline in a person’s physical, mental and/or emotional wellbeing. Not only does our model deliver outstanding care, it can also provide outstanding financial results for all of our franchises. It’s both broad and scalable, while providing high quality home care services to multiple market segments, thus creating the opportunity for an exciting investment choice. Previous care experience is not necessary, as Bluebird Care is a management franchise. You will develop a team of high-quality care professionals who will take control of your day-to-day care operations, allowing you to focus on building a successful business.

HOME CARE

FOUNDED in 2005, Caremark has grown to become the leading franchise provider of domiciliary care services in the UK. It currently has an established, thriving network of more than 120 franchises and, with 12 overseas territories, is enjoying an increasing presence at home and abroad. Caremark’s proven success continues thanks to a tried and tested franchise model, along with an ongoing support system that assists every franchisee. Being a wholly independently UKowned franchise allows for strategic business decisions to be made swiftly, benefitting the network on all fronts.

Multiple revenue streams The growing diversity of services that Caremark offers means there are multiple revenue streams open to franchisees. They are:

1: Live-in care; 2: Respite care; 3: Companionship and social activities; 4: Dementia care; 5: Children’s services. Over the years, Caremark has developed and refined a robust system bolstered by strong policies and procedures, which

leading high street banks play a major role in helping new franchise partners, should financial assistance be required. An additional plus is that Caremark has one of the lowest management service fees in the sector, which benefit franchisees from the outset. Training and ongoing support Once the franchise agreement is signed, new business owners receive essential initial training, as well as outstanding ongoing support. This two-pronged support is provided by head office and a Caremark field team. Among franchisee support is business development, training and regulations, IT, PR, marketing and roster management support. Once a new business has been registered by the regulator, new franchisees also benefit from a straightforward process which makes it easy to launch their business and introduce their brand into the market place. This proven model allows every Caremark franchisee to focus on developing their business, while the care manager builds and supervises a team of trusted care and support workers. Adhering to such a robust system reduces the risk for new business owners, especially during the critical first year. As a full member of the British Franchise Association (bfa), Caremark prides itself on honesty and transparency. Thanks to its strong code of ethics, the company places care at the centre of everything it does. Caremark has built a respected and reputable brand, giving instant credibility to new franchisees. Not only is this credibility key to building a client base, it also means franchisees find it comparatively easy to get funding support. Caremark’s excellent partnerships with numerous

Sustainable business opportunity Caremark’s proven business opportunity continues to attract a wide variety of skilled professionals from different sectors. Having a background in care is not necessary, as full training and ongoing support is provided to each franchisee from day one, and throughout their business life. However, what is required is management experience, a passion for the care sector and a genuine desire to grow a community-based service, along with the drive to build a sustainable business. The common denominator among all Caremark franchisees is their desire to be in a business which gives something back to society and makes a difference to the most vulnerable people in their communities.

THE BEST IDEAS are often the simplest and yet most profitable. Complete Entertainment eXchange (CeX) takes the ‘buy and sell’ concept, and then updates it by trading in digital entertainment products. CeX shops buy, sell and exchange mobile phones, games, electronics, computers and film media, directly from the public. But what separates CeX from other buy and sell retailers is their execution – supported by more than 25 years of experience. The brand is acclaimed as a technology and entertainment specialist. The CeX website provides customers with an opportunity to buy, sell or even exchange their goods online, with all orders fulfilled by CeX stores directly. This gives franchisees the benefit of a much wider customer base. CeX has recently expanded into repairs, providing customers with a complete solution to their electronic needs, while providing franchise partners with new revenue streams. The company has also launched its own range of branded products and is expanding this

range even further, by improving retail offering and profits. CeX has developed its own bespoke computer systems that simplify the process of buying and selling. Goods are tested before they are bought in, and then resold with a 24-month warranty. This provides customers with great value for money, as well as peace of mind. The successful CeX model has helped the company grow its number of branches, during a period when many other retailers in the sector have been forced to close theirs. The reason for this can be attributed to CeX’s ability to set its own prices, based on market conditions, which has helped to maximise profits and limit exposure to industry forces.

- Bespoke EPOS & Mobile Epos Systems - Store launch and marketing support Established in Tottenham Court Road, London, in 1992, CeX began franchising in 2005. Countries that already offer franchise possibilities are the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Canary Islands, Mexico, India, Portugal, Netherlands, Poland, Australia and Italy. They have over 350 stores in the UK and more than 100 in other parts of the globe. A CeX franchise offers unrivalled returns. Within two years of starting out as a franchise, a typical new store will, on average, generate an annual turnover in excess of £1 million. Put simply, we believe we are the ‘Gadget Lover’s Dream Franchise’.

Those who become a Franchise Partner will receive: - Initial and ongoing training - Stock and pricing advice from experts - Intranet, web, email and business services - Store identification, design and outfit

ACCOUNTANCY

TAXASSIST ACCOUNTANTS Once again, TaxAssist Accountants have made it into the top 15, their success built on being the largest and most successful accountancy franchise in the country taxassistfranchise.co.uk

TAXASSIST ACCOUNTANTS, and its franchise network, has been at the forefront of the accountancy industry for 25 years. The company combines technology-led services, with its own shops, and it has always held a passion for innovation. Listed at No 21 in the Accountancy Age Top 50 + 50, our franchisees and their teams play a proud and vital role at the heart of the small business community. Quite often, a TaxAssist accountant will be the only advisor guiding a small business owner through the digital revolution. As the largest and most successful accountancy franchise in the country, and with a network of more than 300 highly visible high street shops and offices across the UK, TaxAssist Accountants is in the perfect position to take advantage of the opportunities that currently exist in the everwidening world of accountancy. This in turn offers new and big opportunities for those looking to take control of their future, by starting a new practice or by taking over an existing business. Franchisees need not have an accountancy background, as their main focus will be on managing a team who will deliver a first-class service to their clients.

EF100 - 2020

Those best placed to achieve long-term success as a TaxAssist franchisee, will most probably have a strong commercial and managerial background, or perhaps have spent many years working in financial services. Training & Support We provide a true franchising partnership: Our franchisees own around 35% of the franchisor business, following a franchisee-assisted management buyout in 2014. This ensures longterm strategies have always had franchisee success at their heart. As you would expect from a business of this stature, multi-award-winning and comprehensive support is at the heart of the franchise model. The TaxAssist support centre provides guidance on everything from growth strategy to technical support, as well as ongoing training for franchisees and their staff. Marketing and business development are key components of the support on offer. Our proven service for generating leads, delivers the right prospects to grow a franchisee’s fee bank. Meanwhile, a personalised, responsive website and Google Ads’ campaigns increase visibility locally. The training academy provides bespoke technical support for franchisees and their team, ensuring that each franchise remains the local market leader, while operating to the highest professional standards.

The support centre’s team of experts also research and recommend a best-in-class software suite for its network, enabling increased efficiencies and the development of even stronger relationships with clients. These are advantages you simply could not achieve by operating as an independent. The result is that many franchisees open and operate multiple shops within their territory. TaxAssist Accountants is hugely popular with small businesses which enjoy a friendly, convenient local service that is backed by a large and recognised brand. Financials Our franchise fee is £39,950, plus VAT, with the total investment required dependent on location, working capital and level of personal drawings required. TaxAssist works closely with new franchisees throughout the business planning process to establish the right level of investment. The major banks fully support the franchise model and will typically lend up to 70% of the total investment required, subject to status. And when a franchisee is ready to sell their practice, help is provided to achieve maximum value. On many occasions, businesses are sold at prices in excess of

Building businesses together Cash Converters provides a clear business model for all of its franchisees, which include a business plan framework, marketing guidance and a store opening pathway. These help to create and sustain a franchisee’s business during the early years, as well as drive revenue and customer footfall. In CCUK’s business model, new and existing franchisees are provided with sales and marketing collateral, business development advice, along with extensive training and digital backing. It also offers guidance and technical support on IT and compliance. There is a huge range of incentives to become part of the Cash Converters franchise family. It is an established brand that is evolving year-on-year, while still keeping true to its original values.

A success story in the face of retail pressures Against a backdrop of retail pressures on the nation’s high streets, Cash Converters is flourishing, and is continuing to attract new customers,

while retaining existing ones too. It has a commitment to doing the right thing for customers, with robust policies in place to treat its customers fairly. Cash Converters’ CEO says: “At Cash Converters we’re working to support each other every day, as well as driving mutual benefits at the same time. But we also genuinely care about the communities close to our local stores. Our customers and the communities in which we operate also matter.” As an example, many Cash Converters stores have helped raise more than £400k, and supported 168 children at Dreams Come True, which is a charity that works to enrich the lives of seriously ill children and young people. Collective growth Cash Converters has a plan to continue growing its business, to increase footfall in stores, to drive revenue through a new online platform, to create new loyalty programmes and to enhance its branding on the high street. Cash Converters is the biggest second-hand retailer in the world and has multiple sites across the UK, so investing in innovation across key areas of the business is critical. As part of this commitment, it has developed an extensive online learning

platform, as well as field support for its franchisees. Mike Stevenson, franchisee of the year, said: “Being part of the Cash Converters team is a huge opportunity for franchisees. We’d be keen to encourage people who might be interested to enquire about joining us, as we continue to expand as a business.”

Cash Converters promises include:

• Putting people first: Looking after customers, existing franchisees and staff, while providing opportunities to new franchisees. It always wants to deliver service with a smile and build lasting relationships. • Innovation: To be the best at what it does, in the second-hand goods market, both in-store and online. • Partnership: Cash Converters has franchisees that have been in the business from inception 28 years ago, with others starting out during recent months. It has over 500 years’ worth of experience in the network and with a new leadership team in the UK.

DOMESTIC CLEANING

MOLLY MAID Thirty-six years and counting, Molly Maid remains a top-15 UK franchise thanks to its continued emphasis on quality training and customer satisfaction mollymaid.co.uk

AS THE MOST established UK home cleaning franchisor, with a 36-year track record of success, Molly Maid knows what it takes to remain a leader in the UK’s £3bn home cleaning industry. It’s iconic 18th century maid cap, and pink and blue colours, are now as recognisable as McDonald’s golden arches, and have helped to keep Molly Maid high up in the league tables of domestic cleaning franchises in the UK. But this rich heritage underlies a savvy ownership group, with owners who are continuously improving their operation, and making the company a proven winner in the UK franchise marketplace. Founded in Canada during the late 1970s, Molly Maid was launched in the UK in 1984 and has grown to a network of 74 franchises. The company is now owned by Kevin Hipkins, the long-time President of Molly Maid in Canada and the UK. And if you were to ask Hipkins why the company has achieved such tremendous success, not only here in the UK but also Canada, United States, Portugal and Japan, he doesn’t hesitate in pointing to its franchise owners. He always says: “They are the life and blood of our company and brand, and without them, we simply wouldn’t be in business”. Since its launch in the late 1970s, Molly Maid has put delivering high quality housecleaning and high levels of customer satisfaction at the core of its service. Customer satisfaction is in their DNA, which is why the company boasts such tremendous loyalty and repeat business. With 98% of company turnover coming from existing customers, their business model is certainly a marketer’s dream. Their website attracts more than 60,000 enquiries each year, making it one of the top five, with regards to searches for housecleaning services in the UK. As a full member of the British Franchise Association (bfa), Molly Maid provides the necessary support systems to successfully launch and operate your business. Training begins long before any franchise business is even launched, with meetings held at their Maidenhead headquarters. A business plan maps out the first two years. The cost of the plan is included in the franchise fee and continues with a full week of on-

site training, and then a further week in the field when the business is launched. This commitment to training and support is also part of the company’s DNA, which former chief executive Pam Bader felt was a vital cog in the overall learning process for franchisees. Bader, who was also chairwoman of the bfa, received an OBE in 1995 for her services to training and she is now a non-executive director of the company. One might be forgiven for thinking that a company, which has operated for 35 years, would get stuck in its ways but Molly Maid has demonstrated an ability to change with the times. The company employs bespoke software programmes used by franchise owners to help run their businesses, and which are now approaching £1m each in annual turnover. Quite a change from using pens and A3 sheets of paper when it was first launched. It is for these reasons that Molly Maid is now attracting a new wave of ambitious entrepreneurs. Over the past few years, there’s been an influx of individuals who have had successful careers in accountancy, consultancy, law and sales, but have now set their sights on this industry, and are looking to Molly Maid to realise their business dreams. The one consistent trait that all franchise owners have are skills in managing and leading people. And this brings us back to Hipkins whose core belief is that it is the people who are the essence of the company’s continued success.

SUBWAY subwayfranchising.com/en-gb

Making its third successive appearance in the top 15 is Subway, which continues to evolve and move with the times, and remains one of the most successful brands on the planet IN 1965, when Fred DeLuca borrowed $1,000 from a family friend to open a sandwich shop, he was merely setting up a business with the purpose of using its profits to fund his own college fees. Never did he dream that he was embarking on a successful franchise which, more than 50 years later, would become one of the biggest brands in the world. Nowadays, Subway can boast to having more than 43,000 stores worldwide, with DeLuca and friend Peter Buck the proud owners of this ground-breaking franchise. Their franchise story began when they noticed the popularity of the submarine sandwich, and they set themselves the task of opening 32 stores within 10 years. Realising they couldn’t meet their target alone, they researched the market and discovered the best way to reach their goal was to expand Subway as a franchise, giving others the chance to own their own little part of the brand. The first Subway franchise opened in the US in 1974, and the first UK store opened in Brighton 22 years later. There are now

108 Top15 listings.indd 17

EF100 - 2020

over 43,000 stores in 110 countries, all of which are owned and operated by franchisees. Subway’s franchise owners’ hail from many different walks of life, all with their own story to tell, but all of whom share the attributes required to be successful. They are personable, can lead a team from the front, possess business acumen and are passionate about the Subway brand. As a people’s business, Subway is committed to helping franchise owners run successful stores in good locations, with first-class customer service and a sought-after menu. To future-proof Subway for the next decade, the company introduced a new ‘fresh forward’ store décor in 2017, offering guests an enhanced and modern experience with clean lines and customer focused touches. The ‘fresh forward’ décor continues to be rolled out to new and existing stores throughout the UK and around the world. With new product development a key focus for Subway, the brand offers an ever-evolving menu of subs, salads and signature wraps, as well as snacks, sweet treats and drinks. Tapping into trends, Subway’s menu is able to suit all taste preferences. Through partnerships with delivery services such as Just Eat and Uber Eats, Subway now offers delivery, thus providing franchise owners with a new revenue stream. Subway franchise owners work for themselves, within their local communities, but with a tried-

and-tested framework, all backed-up by worldclass training and support. All new franchise owners attend a two-week training course at Subway’s UK and Ireland Support Centre in Cambridge. During training, they learn all they need to know about operating a Subway store and running their own business. In addition, prospective franchise owners are required to complete 40 hours of in-store training, so they can demonstrate their newly-learned skills. On completion of this training, a franchise owner is ready and equipped to confidently take on all that a Subway franchise involves. Subway has 20 business development offices in the UK and Ireland, and its team of business development agents are on hand to assist and mentor all franchise owners. This involves giving advice on site selection, leasing, design, construction, hands-on training, purchasing, operations, advertising and local store marketing. They also provide ongoing support after the new franchisees have opened their stores. A Subway franchise is hugely rewarding. This is borne out by the fact that over 70% of new stores are opened by existing franchise owners. Subway’s franchise owners work hard, particularly during the early stages of business development. But a franchise can offer great flexibility, a better worklife balance, giving the owner the chance to be in control of their own destiny.

This helps to create a customer base for new members. • Personalised website. Within the main Revive! website, all franchisees have their own local landing page, each with a dedicated ‘smart’ number to help track retail opportunities which occur using postcode allocation. lasts three months, to generate work from local customers. We also pay for a local advert and personalised leaflets. • Before a franchisee launches, we will help them recruit their first two experienced technicians, guiding them through the recruitment and interviewing process. Technicians must prove their ability by carrying out skills tests, while also providing necessary documentation. In addition, our franchise fee includes a twoweek induction process for the skilled technicians who will be employed by the new franchisee. The initial training covers all aspects of running a Revive! franchise, including how to attract and retain customers, managing technicians, scheduling work, IT and using the accounting processes. It is the franchisor’s responsibility to look after bookkeeping and payroll for each of its franchise members. There is also our bespoke technical awareness training which makes certain new franchisees, with no background in car repairs, can hit the ground running. Training is not only delivered at the

beginning, but throughout a franchisee’s journey, as their business grows and develops. There are regular training workshops, covering sales and marketing, finance, leadership, recruitment and retention. We also operate an accelerated business planning programme for franchisees who reach ‘High Performer’ status. This programme offers guided ‘planning for growth’ as well as mentor support and additional training masterclasses. We have a wide customer base, ranging from the general public to national dealership groups, insurance providers, along with fleet and lease companies. Revive! services are highly valued by our trade and retail customers alike, and this gives our franchisees scope to build a substantial business. For members of the general public, Revive! offers an easy way to get their damaged cars back in shape. With an increasing number of cars on the UK’s roads every year, the market is huge. For car dealers, our service offers significant advantages as we understand

the challenges and opportunities within the marketplace. Our industry leading Revive! app makes invoicing simple and enables us to offer detailed management information to dealer groups, helping them to make sense of their minor repair outgoings and thus reduce costs. And for our national account customers, we offer a fully managed process, with centralised invoicing and management information. Could you be our next success story? CHILDREN’S SERVICES

Since the start of the new millennium, Tutor Doctor has changed the way the world teaches its children and teenagers. It operates in 16 countries, with the UK one of its fastest growing markets with more than 70 franchisees

TUTOR DOCTOR tutordoctoropportunity.com/uk-main TUTOR DOCTOR is the fastest growing in-home tutoring franchise in the world. Our franchisees manage a team of tutors and work closely with families to identify the needs of students. As a successful business owner at the heart of the local community, franchisees help children achieve their potential and change lives for the better. In today’s modern, hectic world, the tired old location-based model lacks convenience as well as the personal touch. But at Tutor Doctor, our tutors either visit students at home, or work with them one-to-one via our online platform. The company was established in North America in 2000 and, during the past two decades, has seen businesses develop in more than 680 territories in 16 countries – and we continue to expand and grow. We are proud to announce that the UK is one of our most successful markets and has consistently shown the fastest growth in like-for-like sales. In 2019, we celebrated our 10th anniversary on British soil and welcomed our 70th franchisee to the UK network. A 2019 survey revealed that one in four children received private tutoring during the last 12 months. It should come as no surprise, that the UK spends more on private tuition than anywhere else in Europe. Demand is high and the market continues to expand. Franchisees benefit from operating an exciting and scalable business, while also having the power to create a lasting impact on children. We refer to this as ‘changing the trajectory of students’ lives’. Tutor Doctor offers a low risk model with a high ROI. Franchisees can work from home for added flexibility and all tutors work on a self-employed basis, so there’s no need to worry about the usual overheads. As a management franchise, a large percentage of our franchisees eventually employ a team of staff, including education consultants and administrative assistants, giving them more time and freedom to focus on business development and growth.

Our franchisees are at the heart of the business and our constant support is designed to inspire

Our franchisees come from all walks of life and are not all ex-teachers as you might think. In fact, 80% of our network does not have a background in education at all. No matter your experience and background, we’re committed to going above and beyond to help our network succeed. We’ve won awards for the way in which we train and support our franchisees, not just as new recruits but throughout the life of their business too. You can expect an online course, along with group training, in Toronto. This is followed by a 12-month support programme from a dedicated Launch Support Specialist. Our Launch Support Programme is designed to maximise growth potential in year one. At the end of year one, franchisees begin ‘active coaching’ and receive specialised support to achieve their goals. This includes the option to work with a business coach on a strict mentoring scheme and to tap into a highly focussed sales programme. The sky really is the limit! Collaboration and a sense of togetherness are paramount to our success as a network. Franchisees, new and established, have regular regional meetings, webinars and receive regular calls from our field support team. Not forgetting our annual conference that brings together the whole network for a chance to learn, celebrate and plan for the future. Our franchisees are at the heart of the business and our constant support is designed to inspire, assist and motivate them to strive for greatness. Something special happens when our franchisees combine their desire to truly make a difference with our world-class training and support systems. Our company’s vision, mission and values resonate with everyone. We’re looking for highly driven individuals who want to build a great business and change lives. Does that sound like you?

ENERGIE FITNESS energiefranchise.com

Moving and shaking its way towards the summit of Elite Franchise’s top 100 is énergie Fitness, the new high flyers in the rapidly expanding health and fitness sector THE PAST YEAR has been one of significant change for énergie Fitness. Moving into its 16th year, the leading UK low-cost gym franchise has seen a change of ownership for the first time in the company’s history. Social impact investors, Bridges Fund Management (BFM), have acquired a majority stake in the company, which has over 100 sites across the UK and Ireland. As a business model, énergie Fitness is displaying continued strong growth as a franchisor specialising in health and fitness.

EF100 - 2020

Thanks to its approach to innovation, énergie has been able to carve out and own a unique place within the health and fitness market, becoming the only operator to occupy this ‘low-cost / high service’ space. With the low-cost sector being the key driver of demand in this market, the company’s unique brand position provides franchisees with a robust consumer offering that continues to produce strong growth for the énergie network. énergie makes fitness accessible to everyone. It offers a low-cost ‘classic’ gym membership for around £19.99. For this low monthly cost, members get access to state-of-theart fitness equipment, modern facilities and a vibrant atmosphere that has a community feel. However, to top this off, énergie has become renowned for its world-class service which has enabled the company to truly differentiate itself from its competitors. Over 1,000 members from across the network have completed énergie’s signature training course titled ‘Take the Stage.’ This is designed to arm franchisees, as well as their staff, with the hospitality skills required to deliver énergie’s renowned world-class service. With attention to detail at the heart of énergie’s offering, all of their gyms employ a dedicated ‘host’ who is tasked with providing a five-star greeting to all its customers. This is a striking contrast from the service delivered by many of the faceless big-box gyms that are currently chasing customers in the same market.

For gym members, who want a more premium offering, énergie provides an upper-tier ‘Wow!’ membership from £24.99. This gives access to signature fitness classes such as ‘thé YARD’ (an in-club boutique training experience) and MYZONE (heart-rate technology). Other additional benefits associated with this particular membership include priority class booking, access to Netflix and Spotify, as well as internet use while training. Members can also use all other énergie gyms in the network too. The introduction of this two-tier pricing model membership has increased the average yield per member, thus delivering better performance for their franchise network. In addition, the

2019 State of the UK Fitness Industry report confirmed that énergie has the highest average membership fee of any of the top 10 low cost operators in the UK – currently £22.67. One of the key factors that attracted investment from BFM was énergie’s strength in local communities. énergie has enjoyed great success in appealing to a broader, more inclusive demographic. The company attracts a higher-than-average number of customers – than other low-cost gym providers – in the 36-50 age range, as well as 50 plus. While innovation and customer service is at the heart of énergie’s consumer offering, another key component driving the business forward is the collaboration which exists within its franchise network. énergie franchisees play a crucial role in developing and improving our franchise model. There is a franchisee forum meeting staged every quarter, which is instrumental in shaping some of the innovations of the future. This collaborative approach, combined with BFM investment, ensures that énergie continues to strengthen its relationships, while adding real value to local communities, and delivering results for its franchisees.

ACTIONCOACH ActionCOACH continues to go from strength-to-strength, reaching a new high in our top 100 list of UK franchises actioncoach.co.uk

ACTIONCOACH has once more ended the year as the UK’s Best B2B Franchise. On November 28th, 2019, ActionCOACH became one of only four franchises to achieve a Five-Star Franchisee Satisfaction rating seven times. So we asked one of its cofounders, Ian Christelow, to provide some insight why ActionCOACH continues to be so successful. Last year, ActionCOACH awarded 44 new UK franchises. He said: “We’re proud of all the awards and accolades we’ve received, but perhaps most proud of the Award sponsored by Lloyds Bank for Continuous Improvement. To increase an already exceptionally high franchisee satisfaction rating, year-on-year, reflects our team’s commitment to kaizen. With 1% market penetration, it’s now time to raise awareness of our business and life-changing services. We’ve just invested

118 Top15 listings.indd 9

heavily in Sky TV advertising, which has already yielded business for our franchise partners. And we’ve secured sponsorship from NatWest ahead of our April 2020 event, when we welcome over two thousand delegates to Celtic Manor, hosted by Clare Balding. Speakers include Brad Sugars, Sir Bob Geldof, Col Dame Kelly Holmes, John Warillow and Chris Voss to name a few.” The minimum expectation for each territory with 10,000 active businesses is to build a monthly client income gradually to £75k per month by year 10. This is something some of our UK franchise partners have achieved through just their own personal clients. But you’ll probably choose to build your revenue with the help of employee business coaches, who ActionCOACH train for you for just £6k per coach. Interestingly, a couple of new franchise partners recently exceeded £25k in client income by their eighth month. Transform your local business community By becoming an ActionCOACH franchise partner, you’ll be invited into a world of knowledge and experience. You and your team will receive worldclass training with global, national and local support every step of the way. And you will also have access to over 3,500 strategies and tactics, which are guaranteed to make businesses successful, including your own. According to our franchise partners, however, the biggest returns are the personal ‘thank you’ they receive from their clients. The recognition ActionCOACH franchise partners get for making a difference to their local economy is also a massive bonus. Business growth fuels more jobs, time, security and financial freedom for families. So becoming a key driver in making that happen for your local business community is priceless. You and your employee business coaches will work with business owners, helping them in several areas. These include: Teaching them how to increase their profits, develop powerful systems and build a strong team. The results are not

only a more profitable and sustainable business, but also a dramaticallyimproved life for your client. In short, it is a fantastically rewarding and fulfilling experience for anyone who invests in the ActionCOACH franchise. An outstanding opportunity For the right person, the banks will lend up to 80% unsecured for ActionCOACH exclusive franchise territories. But first and foremost, to become a franchise partner, you will need to possess the following values: A track record of success, an appetite for learning, plus a desire to help other people succeed. Co-founder Ian Christelow says: “We’ll award territories in 2020 to people who have proven team-building and leadership skills. They also need to have

an investment mindset and a personality that attracts talent. In return, the level of support for our franchise partners will only increase.” It’s no secret why the judges continue to be so impressed with ActionCOACH. From eighth in 2018, to fifth last year, the business is now ranked fourth in the Elite Franchise top-100 UK list for 2020.

DRIVER HIRE driverhirefranchise.co.uk

Join the award-winning Driver Hire, which remains one of the UK’s top-15 franchises and acclaimed specialist in recruitment. A DRIVER HIRE franchise gives you the opportunity to run your own £1m+ recruitment business, operating within the transport and logistics sector. Established in 1983, this is an award-winning franchise, with a proven business model that generates high returns. Looking at the figures, it is easy to see what makes Driver Hire a leading franchise brand in the UK. Average turnover in 2018/19, for a single unit, was £1,214,978. This is more than three times the national franchise industry average of £400k (British Franchise Association (bfa) NatWest Franchise Survey 2018). This delivers an average net profit per unit of over £140,000 per annum. Named the winner of the 2019 bfa HSBC ‘Franchisor of the Year’, Driver Hire has now won an award in this category six times, and has been a finalist in 13 of the last 14 years. It’s an outstanding record that no other franchisor has matched. You will own an office-based management franchise which operates in a fast-paced environment, where quality service and sales activity are paramount. Driver Hire’s franchisees

run their own recruitment business, specialising in the provision of temporary and permanent drivers, along with logistics staff. The Driver Hire network supplies thousands of satisfied customers each year, including major logistics companies, builders’ merchants, parcel carriers and local authorities. It’s a huge market, with the UK recruitment industry worth an estimated £35.7bn (REC/KPMG 2017/18). Ed Pockney, Driver Hire’s Uxbridge franchisee, says he enjoys the feel-good factor that comes with working in recruitment: “While the financial side is key, I just enjoy running a Driver Hire franchise. We’ve taken people who were unemployed onto our books and found them full-time jobs. That’s an amazing feeling. I love hearing a client say to me: ‘He’s perfect for the job, can I keep him’?” Who is the ideal Driver Hire franchisee? Driver Hire franchisees reflect a wide spectrum of working backgrounds from which relevant skills have been gained. While some have worked in either recruitment or the transport sector, others have run their own businesses, worked as accountants, or in education, IT, retail and even banking. It’s important you’re highly selfmotivated and ambitious, with a very positive outlook and a ‘can do’ attitude. James Craven was in his early 30s, and enjoying a successful career as a change management consultant in Switzerland, when he decided to return to the UK to run his own business. He commented: “I heard good things about the Driver Hire franchise opportunity from an acquaintance who had already experienced success with

them. I had a great conversation with Graham Duckworth, Driver Hire’s Franchise Sales Director, and he was able to answer all my questions and more. Now I own the Driver Hire Bournemouth franchise and it’s been a fantastic experience for me. I’ve found it liberating, and I feel motivated like never before.” Training and support Driver Hire’s fully supported initial six-week training programme sets you up for success. Once the franchisee has opened for business (or has taken over an existing franchise), training continues in the form of a franchise support programme, which can deliver up to six months of further support and training in the franchisee’s office. Support is also available from specialist teams at Driver Hire’s head office, where you can talk with an area development manager, or get advice from our national accounts department, HR, marketing and IT. Peer-to-peer support is just as valuable, and Driver Hire encourages and facilitates positive working relationships between franchisees. This is achieved through regular regional meetings, an annual conference and their online forum. Manjit Singh, the Driver Hire franchisee for Enfield, says: “My Driver Hire franchise has helped me develop a great business, work with some great people and deliver some great returns for my family.”

HOME INSTEAD

Moving with the times has always been important to Home Instead Senior Care who have been awarded with 1st and 2nd place for an incredible third year in a row homeinstead.co.uk/franchise

HOME INSTEAD SENIOR CARE is an award-winning franchise driven by its network of compassionate and caring entrepreneurs. We help 15,000 older people in the UK to continue living in their own homes, an achievement which has earned the company a spot in Elite Franchise’s top three, for the third year running. Home Instead has over 200 franchise offices operating successfully and profitably in the UK. Across the UK network, our franchise business supports more than 15,000 clients, and employs in excess of 11,000 care professionals. Its proven model delivers outstanding care and results for franchisees. Put simply, they are making lives better for everyone. Home Instead’s mission is ‘To be the most admired care company

through changing the face of ageing.’ And this is at the heart of everything we do. A rapidly ageing population means there are high levels of demand for home care. As many as 90-per-cent of older people wish to continue living at home and, as a result, Home Instead franchisees enjoy huge growth opportunities. Home Instead’s focus is on delivering ‘high-tech, high-touch’ care. The year 2020 will provide a milestone moment for us, as we deliver and take home-based care innovations to an exciting new level. An example of our use of technology is Home Instead’s Telecare pendant service, which enables clients to summon help at the touch of a button. However, the company has developed other powerful solutions to ensure we ‘keep an eye’ on our clients, even when our care professionals are not with them. Home Sense uses sensor technologies to track our client’s daily routine, outside of care visits. This alerts the franchise teams (as well as clients’ families) to changes in behaviour, which could signal a potential issue. Perhaps a client has not got out of bed, or the kettle hasn’t been switched on, or they are moving around less than usual. This technology can even check that doors are locked at bedtime. Another item of high tech software being used by Home Instead is GrandPad. This is an easy to use

tablet that enables clients to send voice emails, view pictures, watch videos, listen to music, play games and make video calls to friends and family. Home Instead has secured exclusive UK rights to use this technology. Home Instead has won a raft of industry awards and is regularly being named as an organisation that provides outstanding care in the home. It has been recognised as being ‘outstanding,’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), more times than any other care provider. Other accolades include the coveted British Franchise Association (bfa) Franchisor of the Year Gold Award. Home Instead is the only care company to have been given the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category. It was also presented with the Princess Royal Training Award, for its willingness to embrace new technologies to support clients. Home Instead delivers quality homecare with visits lasting a minimum of one hour. This allows care professionals to form long and trusting relationships with clients. Clients and their helpers are matched on the basis of background, culture, hobbies and interests. Home Instead insist on creating a high-quality relationshipled homecare service. However, in addressing the challenges of an ageing world, Home Instead is certainly not resting on its laurels. The company’s CEO, Martin Jones, is passionate about providing excellent 21st century care by collaborating across both public and private sectors. He is focussed on delivering a service that enables people to enjoy good mental and physical health, as they become older. Home Instead leads the way in both care and franchising.

SNAP-ON TOOLS Award-winning tool manufacturer and distributor Snap-on, allows franchisees to keep 100% of their profits. And for the third year in a row, it has been named one of the top 15 franchises in the UK snaponfranchise.co.uk

SNAP-ON TOOLS is the world’s number one professional tool brand. We are a leading global manufacturer and distributor of tools for the automotive, marine, railroad and engineering technician. Our franchisees sell the most sought-after tools in the industry, delivering outstanding customer service to technicians from their very own, iconic showroom on wheels. Founded in the US in 1920, and launched in the UK in 1965, we are proudly celebrating 100 years in the tool trade. Our proven business model has been refined in the UK for over 55 years and there’s a reason why we’re known as ‘best in the business’. Today, we have over 400 franchisees’ operating territories in the UK & Ireland and, globally, our franchise network is made up of more than 4,300 franchises. Many franchisees join us with little or no experience of the tool trade, and most have never run a business before. But that’s no problem, as we equip our franchisees with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to make a success of their business. We provide a

no-nonsense approach to training, plus a lifetime of support to help you achieve your goals. Then it’s down to hard work and determination to reach your potential. As a result, our franchisees have average sales of over £6,000 per week, and they keep 100% of the profits. Some franchisees have run their business for over 30 years, often bringing their family on board as the company grows. Others branch out, and now have two, three or even four vans, with assistants managing the extra routes. Whatever your vision, we’re passionate about helping franchisees achieve it. We pride ourselves on the training and support we offer our network. Our comprehensive training programme starts with franchisees jetting off to our specialist facility in Dallas, for 10 days of classroom-style training. They then return to our UK headquarters, where they meet the team who will support them. As part of our six-month intensive onboarding process, franchisees will have a dedicated franchise developer ride on their mobile store with them every day for the first five weeks. They then receive a further 31 days of on-van support from a sales developer and business manager

over the following five months. That’s 51 contact days during the first six months. What’s more, 200 industry experts, technicians and customer services professionals, based at our state-of-theart headquarters in Kettering, are only ever a phone call away. Our in-house bank, called Snap-on Finance, runs a ‘help to buy’ scheme. This offers business loans to assist you in the purchase of your franchise*. Snap-on is one of the few UK franchisors which offer our franchisees a funding option that doesn’t involve using a bank. In 2019, we won two highly-coveted Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, which are among the most prestigious business honours in the UK. And our very own Craig Bishop, who runs his business across north Dorset, was named bfa HSBC Franchise Awards ‘Young Male Franchisee of the Year.’ Craig said: “Winning ‘Newcomer of the Year’ has been the highlight of my career and, now I’ve had a taste of success, I’m determined to keep going. “I’m driven to be the best and to provide a great lifestyle for my family, which includes the big house and nice car – and I’m not ashamed to say so. “I want to be able to look back in a few years’ time and say, ‘that’s mine, I built that.’ At Snap-on, there’s no such thing as a ‘man in a van’. When you join Snapon, you become part of our team. And our motto says everything about our beliefs: ‘In business for yourself, but never by yourself.’ *Subject to personal circumstances.
