Formal Parking Spots

Formal parking spaces include municipality allocated lots, private parkings and private properties dedicated spaces. These are quite limited compared to the amount of car load the city experiences.

Informal Parking Spots

Informal parking spots include but are not limited to: end of alley ways, secondary side roads, side walks and courtyards. Informal spaces cause a lot of problems as they are infringing on the pedestrian functions of some of the alley ways and courtyards. They are quite dominants compared to the formal parking spots. One main reason is the habitants need to access their dwellings; and for inter-city tourists to park their vehicles.

Formal and Informal Street Use
Other informal street usage include makeshift shops, shop extensions, product display and restaurant extensions. This type of infringement i destructive image of a safer pedestrian promenade. On the contrary, some may say that it would promote walking and boost small shop owners economy. The issue is the clash of this type of street use and the one previously mentioned.

Hot zones >30 pedestrian hour

Cold zones <10 pedestrian hour

While Batroun does have some unpopular areas and zones, it has little to no Cold zones; by cold zones we mean zones that see less then 1 pedestrian per 10 min in peak hours.

On the other hand, The city is littered with Hot spots. While peak hours vary from an area to another ( day activity vs Night activity) it is clear that Batroun sees a lot of incoming intra country tourists and is currently booming with life; especially the area studied.
