This project was the result of a team effort for the needs of the course "Protection and Conservation of an urban centre or historic settlement" of the Master of Science "Protection of Monuments: Conservation and Restoration of Historic Buildings and Sites" at the National & Technical University of Athens. Its context was about the integrated analysis of a traditional settlement, in our case Pyrgos at the island of Santorini, through extensive mapping (public space, road network: hierarchy and materials, natural environment, historical and urban development, buildings: architectural typology, age, pathology, land use etc.) which led to a S.W.O.T. Analysis. The upcoming results of that analysis led to some conclusions which were transformed into a strategic masterplan with a number of proposals regarding the legistlation, the improvement of infrastructure, the quality upgrade of the public space, the promotion and protection of the natural environment and new means for the economic growth of Pyrgos.
