VIRTUAL INTERIORITIES NFT GALLERY

This art gallery is an exploration into the display of virtual art in the real world. In the shell of a large open warehouse, immersive experiences are created through the use of artificial lighting methods and digital displays. The exhibits include displays for two-dimensional digital art, video, and audio. Through the design of the space, users can feel as if they’ve stepped into a realized virtual reality.

DEFINING AN INTERIOR

How can we define an interior? What are the boundaries, if any, that separate one space from another? In this project I experimented in doing this with lighting. In the exhibit shown on the left, beams of light are used to define the space.

The early inspirational model shown on the right is an attempt at capturing light in a physical form, such as in the clear acrylic used.

In the audio exhibit shown above, light is again used to define the spaces around the actual audio devices.

Shown right is a elevation of another audio room. Designed to reflect a DJ’s mixer board, the display would change along with the music.

VIRTUAL REALITY BOOTHS

What the VR user sees is shown on the LED display walls of the booths, including the outside viewer in the experience.

Located in and inspired by Ireland, the Memory Palace is intended as a place for visitors to experience objects from their everyday lives in unexpected ways. It does this by drawing parallels from familiar regional folktales, such as The Enchanted Cave. In this folktale, a prince passes through a thick forest and dark cave only to emerge in the dazzling fairly land full of trails and magical creatures. Many Irish folktales follow a similar narrative - a journey from the everyday world into one more extraordinary. The Memory Palace is experienced much in the same way.

Color is used to symbolize the departure from the outside world. The user enters into a gray room, purposefully colorless and much like the rainy and foggy environment of Ireland. They then emerge into several colorful and bright spaces. A brise soleil creates a variety of unique lighting conditions that affect the feeling of otherness.

HALLBOX ATHENAEUM STUDENT LOUNGE & GALLERY

SPRING

In this project I converted a studio in our architecture building into a student lounge, as well as designing an installation for the ground floor lobby that could be used to display student work.

This studio possessed a fantasical mural done by a past professor, so I attempted to pick up some of the same bright colors and fun shapes in the lounge. My goals of this project included providing the opportunity for students to interact with the space, so I designed furniture that could easily be reconfigured to fit their needs.

UNDERSTANDING THE USER

This project began with a study in proxemics. I looked at the scale of the human body, taking note of the different boundaries a person might feel. Where does personal space end and public space begin?

I also looked at movement and diagrammed the most typical paths throughout the building.
