About Nina Bentley According to Westport artist, Nina Bentley, "Many events have influenced me as an artist, growing up in Brooklyn, having a father who was an Italian anarchist, a mother who worked; being a cheerleader in the 1950's, a history major at college, a writer of advertising copy, a designer of department store window displays, a mother, a corporate wife; living fifteen years in Europe, becoming a grandmother - now many times over. All of these experiences have left their mark and occasioned reflection. The result of my introspection and insights are in my art. I hope this work speaks to some of its viewers." A long-term resident of Westport, Connecticut, Nina Bentley was born in Brooklyn and raised in Great Neck, New York. In 1962 she graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in English, later studying art at the Brooklyn Museum Art School and Chelsea Art School, London. Married young, she moved around the world with her husband, then an international banker, living in Bologna, Frankfurt, London, Zurich, Santiago, and Caracas. A mother of three, her view of life has been molded by “a lifetime of changing roles-wife, mother, copy writer, window designer, art center director.” Bentley began exhibiting in 1965 and has enjoyed sixteen solo exhibitions, here and abroad, since 1978. The executive director of the Rye Arts Center in the 1980s, she is now a board member of the Westport Arts Center and a member and trustee of the Silvermine Guild of Artists and has curated numerous exhibitions. An inveterate collector of “stuff,” Bentley makes art from anything and everything. She deliberately juxtaposes objects whose scale, textures, or categories of use combine to make statements, at once biting and humorous, about the human condition.

About Paula Brett From color-infused paintings to video self-portraits, Paula Brett’s broad body of work incorporates various combinations of media dealing with ideas such as created identity, coincidence, ritual, and transitory spaces. She has exhibited work in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Budapest, Hungary; and Romania. According to Paula, "I am an artist who experiments with interactions. By testing the reactions between various art media and subject matter, my intent is to allow connections between different ideas, images and objects to reveal a new understanding for both the observer and the artist. My process often employs chance operations, the notion of “play”, and spontaneous creation. These techniques are then worked and reworked until some sort of balance between the conscious and subconscious is reached. My work often involves the absurd, created identity, coincidence, ritual, personal anecdote, and humor." These limited edition photographs are Mandalas made from pieces of Candy, Jewels, Toy Cars or other favorites. According to Paula, “The mandala symbolizes the law of the universe and since man is also a microcosm of the universe, many cultures believe that the mandala also symbolizes the human soul. Mandalas serve as collection point for universal forces…My intention with these mandalas is to arrange everyday sweets and favorite objects into a pattern which becomes sacred, where delicious turns divine, the enticing now exquisite.” Paula holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts and Media from Columbia College Chicago. She currently resides in Atlanta where she maintains a studio.

As a freelance photographer and writer, he has captured a range of subjects photojournalism delving into political and social issues, nature and landscapes, architecture, and underwater images. His work has appeared in: New York Times Sunday Magazine; Time/Life Books; IMAX Films; Village Voice; Human Rights Magazine; Shutterbug Magazine; Hasseleblad Magazine; American Photographer; RangeFinder Magazine; LeJohnsWork Magazine; Ocean Realm; Dive Travel Magazine; Picture Magazine; Discover Diving Magazine; Picture Magazine; Popular Photography; Nikon World; Black & White Photography; B&W Magazine; Studio Photography, to name a few. Starting in 1970, John traveled to South Africa capturing images of the people and social divide of Aparteid. His iconic Subway series shot between the mid 1970’s and 1982 in New York City is part of the permanent collection of The New York Historical Society and Hoboken Historical Museum. In 2010, John Conn spent 45 days in Antarctica and Patagonia, traveling and hiking to capture the land and seascapes. He spent over 20 days journeying over 3,200 nautical miles in Antarctica before heading to Patagonia for the second part of his expedition. In 2014/15 John began a series of treks across the US photographing Americans, similar to what Robert Frank did in the late 1950’s. In 2015/16, he spent a month in Cuba photographing the people and surroundings.

About Dale Najarian Dale Najarian received her BFA from Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia. She began painting in 1998. In 2005 she relocated with her family to Singapore for several years and traveled throughout South East Asia, New Zealand, Australia and China. Dale's photographs taken during this time are a source of inspiration for many of her landscape paintings. According to Najarian, "Art is my passion and a huge part of my everyday life. My work is a colorful translation of everyday scenes and objects. I often work from life or in my studio using photography as a general guide. Once I get the feel for the painting, I abandon the actual image and create from within to develop a recognizable yet simplistic painting the viewer can identify with. I feel very privileged to be able to paint and show my work." Her latest Shadow Series merges the realistic quality of a photograph with the abstract translation of a landscape to depict a dreamlike painting that draws you in. Najarian is fascinated by the perspective that shadows create in our daily lives, and uses people’s movements to capture the ever changing relationship between dark and light. She is also proud of the recent work she created for #UNLOAD, a non profit which uses the arts to drive engagement and broaden the coalition of people fighting to end gun violence. Her work has been shown and collected throughout the US and UK. She currently works in her studio in Westport, CT. Elisa Contemporary Art www.ElisaContemporaryArt.com Lisa@ElisaArt.com 212.729.4974
