About Marie Danielle Leblanc Canadian artist, Marie Danielle Leblanc, was born in Trois-Rivières (Quebec) and has lived and worked in Montreal (Quebec) since 1990. Her paintings transform landscapes into poetic worlds. Her deeply saturated palettes bring new life to the sea, land and sky. And she transports her viewers to timeless and imaginary landscapes. Many artworks in this series were inspired by her two month Trek in Nepal in 2014 and other travels around the world. During her travels, she likes to write down her thoughts, make a note of the weather or the name of a place, take pictures and collect images. Leblanc’s travel diary is an ideal instrument for her. Whether she is driving on the highway or in the open country, walking on never-ending beaches or rocks stroked by the sea, it is through her travels that the artist captures landscapes that stretch into the vista. She has participated in twenty solo exhibitions, and more than fifty group exhibitions. Her work has been shown throughout Canada and in Paris, Sydney, Mexico and Tokyo. It is in public and private collections worldwide. .
About Cynthia MacCollum Cynthia MacCollum is a painter, printmaker, designer and mother of two who lives and works in New Canaan, CT. According to MacCollum, "As a painter and printmaker, I find inspiration in fragments of nature held close for reflection. I employ a personal vocabulary of fluid marks and organic imagery to express the sensual pleasure and ephemeral quality of the natural world. Within this realm, my work varies from representational to abstract, and I am continuously moving along the continuum between the two. I tend to work in series, either in regard to the materials used in creating my collagraph plates and prints, or in the exploration of a particular image. Recently I have reconnected to my love of painting and have been exploring ways to connect painting and printing processes. Moving from stencils of plants, to actual plants used as stencils, I am exploring the dialogue between Photography and Painting, despite the fact that I am not using a camera. Instead of painting the object, I am painting the image of the object; this is perhaps a reaction to the constant exposure to images that pervades everyday life. There is also a seasonal aspect to this process; I am using found plant material, and the availability changes with the seasons. The temporal quality of the material, alluding to the passage of time, and the ephemeral nature of the material itself, all speaks to a place in me that craves more connection to the natural world." She is a member of Silvermine Guild, Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, CT; The New Canaan Society for the Arts in New Canaan, CT; and the Fairfield Artists Association, in Fairfield, CT. She graduated from Washington University in St Louis with a major in Art History and a minor in Fine Art. She has continued her studies at The Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, CT; at The Santa Reparata International School of Art, a three-week intensive printmaking program in Florence, Italy and Skopelos Foundation for the Arts in Skopelos, Greece Her work is in private collections throughout the world.
About Mitch McGee The influences for Texas artist Mitch McGee's own artwork came from the style of Pop Art legend, Roy Lichtenstein. According to McGee, "Lichtenstein with a Red Bow was the first piece that started me down this rabbit hole. Roy Lichtenstein took comic strips and repositioned them as lithography. In an almost tongue-in-cheek fashion I wondered how I could take one of his pieces and recreate it in another medium. The easy answer for me was wood. I grew up working with it and, combined with my graphic design background, it left me with a new medium and expression that I think really works." From that start, Texas artist, McGee began to create his own style and establish his unique voice. Today, his creativity exists in that space between painting and sculpture. In his Birch series, McGee uses pieces of wood, each illustrated, hand cut and stained or painted to create dimensional pieces. Each painting is filled with thick layers and subtle shadows. There is a warmth created by the imperfection of the birch and its grain that creates an emotional connection. Each painting is a labor of love, taking 40 to 50 hours or more to complete. McGee has created original works inspired by Superhero comics, Sports icons, as well as romantic moments using thick lines and bold colors to bring these scenes to life in his own way. Each artwork is filled with humor, irony, compassion or seduction. His artwork has been exhibited throughout Texas since 2001 and in New York with Elisa Contemporary Art since 2012. His work is public and private collections throughout the world including TV Journalist, Serena Altschul, Feld family (NY), Pamela and David Ford (Newport RI & NY) and Bradford Werner (St. Louis, MO). In 2013, Mitch McGee’s artwork was featured in Dwell Magazine, W Magazine, and a solo exhibit at 1st Dibs in NYC in 2013. .
About Dale Najarian Dale Najarian received her BFA from Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia. She began painting in 1998. In 2005 she relocated with her family to Singapore for several years and traveled throughout South East Asia, New Zealand, Australia and China. Dale's photographs taken during this time are a source of inspiration for many of her landscape paintings. According to Najarian, "Art is my passion and a huge part of my everyday life. My work is a colorful translation of everyday scenes and objects. I often work from life or in my studio using photography as a general guide. Once I get the feel for the painting, I abandon the actual image and create from within to develop a recognizable yet simplistic painting the viewer can identify with. I feel very privileged to be able to paint and show my work." Her latest Shadow Series merges the realistic quality of a photograph with the abstract translation of a landscape to depict a dreamlike painting that draws you in. Najarian is fascinated by the perspective that shadows create in our daily lives, and uses people’s movements to capture the ever changing relationship between dark and light. She is also proud of the recent work she created for #UNLOAD, a non profit which uses the arts to drive engagement and broaden the coalition of people fighting to end gun violence. Her work has been shown and collected throughout the Northeast. She currently works in her studio in Westport, CT.
About Rose Umerlik Rose Umerlik extracts the intangible emotional moments that live in our collective human psyche and interprets them abstractly through form, line and color so that they may also exist outside of ourselves. Umerlik starts her pieces with lines, loosely gesturing with a graphite pencil to capture the emotion she wants to relate. She absorbs the line – like breathing in an idea or a feeling – and then begins to layer the piece as the line dictates the soft forms that will become the skin. The lines appear, disappear, and reappear; they take us on a journey through the work. Sometimes an entire field of color will be covered with a new color, but glimpses of the line and perhaps the former hue that surrounded it will still be visible underneath. It is as if she is trying to show you where the story leaves off by first showing you how she got there. There are typically focal areas of tangle, tension, compression, and even chaos. These areas are tempered by expanses of soft color; and though these areas are resting places for the eyes, in Umerlik’s opinion, these spaces hold an enormous amount of the work’s energy. Her inclusion of black and grey, which she tends to use liberally, takes some guts, but she combines what can be imposing weight with her subtle palette in a way that is almost reminiscent of Georgia O’Keeffe’s work. The combination is arresting, and beautifully balanced. In recent years, Umerlik has shown in seven solo exhibitions and innumerable group shows domestically and internationally, published a book of work titled Intimacy of Forms, received notable reviews in such publications as Art New England, and been awarded the Clowes Award by the Vermont Studio Center. She was also recently named a 2018 VT Artist to Watch! She currently lives and works in Vermont and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Syracuse University. She has been exhibiting her work since 2005.
