HISTORY 1870

Adolf Schonbek launched his own company A. Schonbek & Co. after working for his grandfather’s crystal glassware factory, focusing on manufacturing complete crystal chandeliers. Adolf Schonbek built up a successful business and chandeliers were sold all over Europe, North and South America and even Asia.

1931

Late Arnold Schonbek (Adolf’s grandson) entered the business with the age of 17, due to the sudden illness of his father Arthur right during the peak of the Great Depression.

1938

Arnold moved the factory to a different part of Bohemia. The Schonbek company employed finally up to 1000 workers in five facilities in the northwest part of Bohemia.

1947

September, Arnold Schonbek emigrated to Canada, and started in Montreal. He became again international exporter, with the U.S. a major market. Therefore the plan was to move the headquarters to the U.S.

1973

A new plant was built in Plattsburgh, NY, about 60 miles south of Montreal.

2006

Schonbek entered the prestigious Arts Award Hall of Fame in January 2006, as a five-time winner of the Arts Award in the category of lighting fixtures.

2007

Swarovski US Holding Ltd. acquired 100% of Schonbek Worldwide Lighting Inc.

CRYSTAL Crystal is transparent glass with a high degree of brilliance and optical purity, appreciated for its decorative beauty. Different types of crystal are offered by Schonbek, but within each crystal type, Schonbek offers only first-quality crystal – no mix with second quality! Customer can feel confident that if a hangtag on a crystal chandelier says the trim is Swarovski, it is just that – not Swarovski mixed with inferior crystal from other source. Each type of crystal has its most logical buyer, according to budget and personal taste: STRASS® Swarovski® Crystal, the absolute perfection and the top brand The purity of the material and the precise cut, the individual quality control and the perfect polishing are key to unrivalled brilliance for which STRASS® Swarovski® Crystal is so well known. The range includes a total of over 1,000 different products – also in different! Each individual STRASS® Crystal carries the STRASS® Signature, which is indelibly engraved in the crystal (clear crystal 12 mm and above, colored crystal 18 mm and above; no signature with the colors Bordeaux, Jet and Emerald). CLEAR and COLOURED crystal. A Member of the Swarovski Group

CRYSTAL SPECTRA® Swarovski® Crystal, a beautiful value Reliable quality from Swarovski, the world leading manufacturer of cut crystal. Thanks to traditionally high quality standards, SPECTRA® Swarovski® Crystal components stand apart from the chandelier crystal of other sources. This crystal grade offers a high degree of brilliance and an exceptional value. CLEAR colour only. Heritage Handcut ® crystal The only branded hand cut crystal is exclusive to Schonbek. A marriage of art and science, optically pure crystal has remarkable refractive characteristics. Schonbek has sources in remote corners of the world where craftsmen still practice the art of handcutting crystal. Heritage Handcut® is cut by hand in two stages on an iron and then a sandstone wheel with marble dust. This methods go back centuries. CLEAR and COLOURED crystal. Rock crystal, art from the earth The raw quartz is mined, not manufactured. It cannot be mass-produced. Skilled gem cutters grind, cut and polish each crystal by hand. It was hung on the earliest crystal chandeliers to refract and intensify the light of candles. CLEAR and COLOURED crystal A Member of the Swarovski Group

CRYSTAL Vintage Crystal® Heirloom shapes include whimsical little beads, dainty droplets and tiny antique-style faceted ovals. CLEAR or COLORED handcut or pressed crystal. Colored crystal in Jewel Tones™ pressed colored crystal in different colours: Bright and Soft Jewel Tones™. Legacy collection ® Some Schonbek chandeliers are dressed with crystal from the glass making region around Venice. Venetian crystal is molded, not cut (round edges due to fire polishing). Because it’s not as brilliant as cut crystal, Venetian crystal has an antique look. Selected crystals are handcut. CLEAR crystal only. Gemcut ® Machine-cut crystal with prismatic brilliance, visual purity, sharp faceting and precise polishing. CLEAR crystal only.
