L’energia aurea che aleggia attorno a tutto ciò che concerne l’ambito culturale si insinua dentro la nostra anima trasmettendoci un inspiegabile senso di pace interiore e di positività. L’arte non si può fermare: non ha confini e non conosce limiti temporali.

L’Amministrazione comunale ha dato prova della sua sensibilità nei confronti del tema culturale, la stagione degli eventi primaverili e la stagione teatrale ne rappresentano il fiore all’occhiello. Quest’anno purtroppo, tutto ciò ha dovuto subire una battuta d’arresto a causa di un invisibile nemico che ha sconvolto le nostre vite. Ma per quanto questo nemico ci abbia profondamente segnati, non ci ha derubati della speranza e soprattutto della speranza di ricominciare più forti e motivati di prima.

Tutti gli eventi previsti in calendario per questi mesi non sono stati annullati, ma solo rimandati. L’Amministrazione comunale si sta adoperando affinché possano essere realizzati in toto.

Tutte le battaglie si affrontano insieme per essere vinte.

Nella speranza e ancor di più nel desiderio di poterVi ammirare presto a Villa Braghieri, cogliamo l’occasione per inviare a tutti gli artisti e, in modo particolare ai giovani partecipanti, l’incoraggiamento più sincero a reagire e interpretare con le loro opere questo momento di transizione.

The golden energy that hovers around everything related to the cultural sphere creeps into our soul, transmitting an inexplicable sense of inner peace and positivity. Art cannot be stopped: it has no boundaries and knows no time limits.

The municipal administration has shown its sensitivity towards the cultural theme, the season of spring events and the theater season represent its flagship. Unfortunately, this year, all of this had to come to a halt due to an invisible enemy that upset our lives. But as much as this enemy has deeply marked us, it has not robbed us of hope and above all of the hope of starting over stronger and more motivated than before.

All the events scheduled for these months have not been canceled, but only postponed. The municipal administration is working to ensure that they can be fully realized.

All battles are fought together to be won.

In the hope and even more in the desire to be able to admire your art soon at Villa Braghieri, we take the opportunity to send all the artists and, in particular to the young participants, the most sincere encouragement to react and interpret this moment of transition with their works.

Introduction to the Competition

La città di Castel San Giovanni (Piacenza) in collaborazione con AGC Associazione Gioiello Contemporaneo, ospita l’edizione 20 | 21 del concorso internazionale sul gioiello contemporaneo d’autore.

L’iniziativa si colloca nel contesto culturale locale. Le terre rosse a sud del Po, i profili collinari ed i vigneti della Val Tidone che digradano verso le rive coltivate alle porte di Piacenza, costituiscono lo scenario che accoglie il pubblico degli appassionati e studiosi del gioiello di ricerca, ma anche di curiosi neofiti che hanno l’opportunità di incontrare autori e spettatori in una dimensione che da locale diviene internazionale. La sezione principale é riservata a professionisti ed emergenti, alla quale si affianca la sezione degli studenti volta a favorire un momento di orientamento e confronto a partire dalla formazione secondaria superiore fino alla specializzazione accademica internazionale.

Gioielli in Fermento nasce 10 anni fa, trasformando nel tempo il tema originale del territorio e delle atmosfere mediterranee, a cui restiamo eticamente e geograficamente legati. La collezione scelta dalla giuria per il 2020 appare in un tempo globalmente sospeso. La pandemia scoppiata nei primi mesi dell’anno segna in modo indelebile una linea di demarcazione nell’attività di ognuno di noi.

ANTE e POST pandemia.

Il tema del 2020 “evoluzione & affinamento” impone una riflessione e suggerisce un nuovo livello di ricerca. Per dare enfasi a questo periodo di transizione si è scelto di registrare il passaggio tra ciò che “è stato” fino all’esplosione della pandemia, dei pericoli del contagio, della paralisi di ogni attività e del confino – il prima – e ciò che da quel momento in poi ha implicato il ripensare le nostre vite, le nostre reazioni, i nostri ruoli – il dopo.

L’approccio artistico raccontato attraverso le mostre di Gioielli in Fermento rappresenta il motus creativo degli autori che attraverso le loro opere registrano, subiscono, reagiscono ai cambiamenti – dal punto di vista concettuale, dal punto di vista pratico, dal punto di vista esistenziale.

La pubblicazione, nel presente volume, della prima parte di questa ricerca costituisce una sorta di ultimo antefatto1: contenuti da scoprire, seguendo i differenti percorsi degli autori sui quali si apre un focus che si andrà completando con la realizzazione di una seconda selezione - aperta a tutto il 2020 - in vista della mostra del prossimo anno (Primavera 2021).

The city of Castel San Giovanni (Piacenza) in collaboration with AGC the Italian Association for contemporary jewellery, will host the 20 | 21 Edition of the contemporary studio jewellery competition, linked to the local cultural and artistic context. The red lands south of the Po river, the soft profiles of the hills and the vineyards of Val Tidone that slope down towards the cultivated banks at the gates of the city of Piacenza, are the juried exhibition award’s inspirational landscape that extends every year to its international audience of passionates and experts in the field of research in jewellery, and also to a growing number of newbies. There is a main section for established and emerging artists and two sections for schools and students (learning and master degree sections) are set to involve institutes for art education and jewellery schools based all over the world which would offer an interesting view to younger students and undergraduates looking for further in-depth experiences.

Gioielli in Fermento was born 10 years ago, transforming over time the original theme of its Mediterranean background and atmospheres, but still keeping the ethical and geographic link. The collection chosen by the jury for 2020 appears in a globally suspended time. The pandemic that broke out in the first months of the year indelibly marks a dividing line in the activity of each one of us.

ANTE and POST pandemia The 2020 theme “evolution & refinement”2 requires reflection and suggests a new level of research. To emphasize this time of transition, we decided to record the path between what “was” until the explosion of the pandemic, the dangers of contagion, the paralysis of all activities and the confinement – before, called the ANTE – and what implied rethinking our lives, our reactions, our roles, from then on – after, called the POST .

The artistic approach told through the Gioielli in Fermento exhibitions represents that authors’ creative motus they apply to record, undergo, react to changes through their works - from a conceptual point of view, from a practical point of view, from an existential point of view.

The publication of the first part of this research constitutes a kind of last antecedent3: contents, to be discovered, following the different paths the authors are walking on, by openinig a focus which will be a whole view together with a second selection - a call open all over this 2020 - lookin forward to next year’s combined exhibition (Spring 2021).

Fermento! Evoluzione e affinamento... ANTE/POST pandemia Nel gioco di connessioni tra vino e gioiello d’autore, e sempre utilizzando le “parole del vino” per affrontare nuovi temi, Gioielli in Fermento 20 | 21 suggerisce il tema dell’evoluzione e dell’affinamento, riferito al percorso intrapreso fin qui dagli autori e dalle loro opere. Con il decimo anniversario della competizione, è interessante proporre qualche riflessione. E’ tempo di indagare come questo fermento abbia pervaso dieci anni di mostre e racconti sul nostro rapportarci al vivace contesto che ci circonda, se tutto ciò abbia lasciato una traccia consistente. Abbiamo trattato temi di convivialità, panorami, sfumature mediterranee, stili di vita, memorie, colori, emozioni, radici, territori, materiali.

A che punto siamo ora? E’ riscontrabile un’evoluzione – positiva, neutra, scarsa, sorprendente – nelle modalità di espressione e interpretazione dell’ornamento?

C’è libertà, improvvisazione o perseveranza nell’affinamento delle proprie esperienze ed abilità? La risposta sta agli autori: designer, orafi contemporanei, artigiani eccellenti, ricercatori e studenti. Il contesto generale del progetto Gioielli in Fermento, ovvero il termine fermentazione, riferisce idealmente a un risultato opportunamente “trasformato”, l’ornamento é per l’autore l’esito stesso della ricerca, fatta di indagine, sperimentazione, soluzioni di qualità. Astraendo dal fenomeno chimico, che ha un ruolo preciso nel mondo del vino, si è cercato negli anni di connotare sempre maggiormente questo spunto ponendolo in relazione con il mondo dell’ornamento contemporaneo.

Dal fermento ai temi dell’evoluzione e dell’affinamento (Aging and Evolution) la proposta oggi è di soffermarsi e comunicare qualcosa di ancora più determinante e intenso rispetto alla già insita maturazione. Il passare del tempo implica un adattamento, un cambiamento. Nel vino la maturità implica in genere un miglioramento, ma a volte molti fattori possono compromettere il risultato atteso. Ogni autore presenta un’opera indossabile a tema, evocandone tratti descrittivi o concettuali di libera interpretazione. Le opere selezionate dalla giuria esprimono una singolare energia creativa, quell’originale individualità del gioiello di ricerca che dà vita al fermento contemporaneo e dimostra la maturità del percorso sperimentato dal suo autore.

La sfida del confronto ANTE/POST pandemia è un’ulteriore evoluzione del progetto in-Fermento. Osservando le opere del “prima” (edizione 20|21 Parte I) e le opere del “dopo” (edizione 20|21 Parte II) emergeranno nuovi significati per il gioiello sperimentale. Una frattura o una pausa determinati dal Covid19 ma non solo o non necessariamente. Un’esigenza da ricomporre, congiungere, sviluppare, la ricerca di un’opera complementare o giustapposta, per evoluzione o rivoluzione, dissolvimento o ricostruzione. O semplicemente ricerca di un equilibrio. I nostri body-ornaments che interpretano una necessità, un sollievo, un messaggio, un’evasione, una gratificazione, una memoria: amuleti personali di una nuova era.

Fermento! Evolution & aging... ANTE/POST pandemia Playing with the connection between wine and studio jewellery and using the words of wine, Gioielli in Fermento 20 | 21 suggests the concept of maturity and evolution coming from the pathway of each author’s research.

Reaching out the tenth editions’ anniversary, it’s time for a reflection. How did all this ferment get into ten years of exhibitions and tales about our relationship with the lively context that surrounds us? We dealt with conviviality, landscapes, quality of life, Mediterranean shades, memories, colours, emotions, roots, territories and materials. How far ahead are we with the way to express and interpret ornaments? What are the next steps approaching the field of research jewellery? Evolution – where are we going? – towards the unknown or the refinement of skills, near freestyle performance or maturation of practise and progress? Answers are up to designers, artists, contemporary goldsmiths, researchers, expert craftsmen or students.

The general context of the project Gioielli in Fermento, as it to say about the term fermentation, the chemical phenomenon in wine making, ideally refers to a suitably “transformed” result, an art jewellery piece, which constitutes the outcome of the research itself, linked to phases of preparation, experimentation, quality determination. Apart from the chemical phenomena, which have a precise role in the world of wine, over the years we have tried to investigate this concept more and more by putting it in relation with the world of contemporary body ornaments.

In this edition, the theme, from fermentation, leads to Aging and Evolution with the purpose of communicating something even more accomplished and beyond the inherent state of maturation. Artists present an ornament for the body challenging the theme, evoking descriptive or conceptual traits according to their own inspiration. The works selected by the jury express a unique creative energy, the original individuality typical of research studio jewellery which represents the concept of contemporary fermento (restlessness, excitement, trepidation, upheaval …) and highlights the maturity of the path and the author who experiences it.

The challenge of the ANTE/POST pandemia comparison is a further evolution of the Fermento project. Observing the works of before pandemic situation (20|21 ed. Part I, the ANTE) and after (20|21 ed. Part II, the POST), new meanings will emerge according to the experimental jewel. Covid19’s face-off determined a fracture or a pause, but not only or not necessarily that. It probably enhanced a need to re-build, join, develop the search for a complementary or juxtaposed work, by evolution or revolution, dissolution or reconstruction. Or simply looking for balance. Our body-ornaments will interpret a need, a relief, a message, an escape, a gratification, a memory: personal amulets of a new era.

Invited Artists

Ogni edizione del concorso, ha registrato presenze decisive per lo sviluppo dell’intero progetto, a partire dal sodalizio con AGC, l’Associazione Gioiello Contemporaneo. In particolare, grazie alla collaborazione con alcuni dei membri, fin dal 2012 si è formato e ampliato il comitato di giuria, che si rinnova ogni anno.

Spesso sono stati invitati artisti di riferimento, che hanno acconsentito a esporre dal vivo le proprie opere: nel 2012 Maria Rosa Franzin, nel 2013 e 2014 GianCarlo Montebello, dal 2013 Gigi Mariani che insieme a Maria Rosa Franzin rimangono legati al progetto dedicando a ogni edizione alcuni pezzi particolari, in una lettura continua di espressioni direttamente riferite a Gioielli in Fermento; dal 2015 Roberta Bernabei1, con un ruolo altrettanto autorevole di studio e ricerca sul gioiello contemporaneo e le sue più recenti evoluzioni.

Dal 2017 è stato costituito un comitato scientifico che segue con attenzione il percorso del progetto. Attualmente ne fanno parte alcuni dei giudici delle varie edizioni oltre a Eliana Negroni nel ruolo di coordinatore: Roberta Bernabei, Charon Kransen, Gigi Mariani, Paulo Ribeiro e, fino al Settembre 2020, l’indimenticato GianCarlo Montebello.

Con il passare delle edizioni, la presenza degli artisti ospiti assume un ruolo sempre più integrato all’esposizione della collezione. La scelta di queste opere tiene sempre presente il presupposto di Gioielli in Fermento, ovvero quel Fermento - Jewellery Fermentation - per descrivere l’aspetto tipico che distingue il gioiello artistico sperimentale: l’approccio dinamico, alla costante ricerca di un’identità e un’intenzione ben definita dell’autore, nell’autonomo desiderio di affermarsi artista, artefice del proprio personale linguaggio espressivo.

Each edition of the contest has been marked by decisive presences for the development of the entire project, such as getting in contact with AGC, the Italian association for contemporary jewellery. Moreover, thanks to the collaboration with some of the members, the project has been expanding since 2012 onwards with the annual jury committee.

The invited artists agreed in exhibiting their works live: in 2012 Maria Rosa Franzin; in 2013 and 2014 GianCarlo Montebello; since 2013 Gigi Mariani, who, being very close to the project, as Maria Rosa Franzin was, started reserving a special piece each year, always linking it directly to Gioielli in Fermento. Since 2015 Roberta Bernabei2, joined in with her double role, being an artist as well as a researcher.

Since 2017, an advisory group that closely follows the development of the project, has been set up. Currently, some of the judges of the various editions are part of it, in addition to Eliana Negroni in the role of coordinator: Roberta Bernabei, Charon Kransen, Gigi Mariani, Paulo Ribeiro and, until September 2020, the unforgotten GianCarlo Montebello.

Over the course of the editions, the exhibition related to the contest further widened the overall vision of the project, and the presence of guest artists got more and more integrated in showcasing the collection.

The result was a further strengthening of the concept behind Gioielli in Fermento, namely this idea around a kind of Jewellery Fermentation, which describes the typical aspect that makes experimental artistic jewel stand out: a dynamic approach, a constant research of a well-defined identity or, at least, of an intention that appears confirmed in the evolution of the authors work line, in their own desire to establish themselves as being an artist, creator of a personal expressive code.

A coherent poetry

Maria Rosa Franzin ha accolto con entusiasmo l’invito a collaborare negli anni con la giuria del Premio Gioielli in Fermento 2012-2013-2014 e si é occupata della supervisione della Sezione Studenti di varie edizioni del concorso.

Da diverse edizioni ha dedicato al progetto alcune opere, ora acquisite in collezioni private o in mostra nel circuito espositivo della Master Collection di Gioielli in Fermento.

Maria Rosa Franzin welcomed the invitation to cooperate with the jury of the Gioielli in Fermento Award in the years 2012-2013–2014 and had been the advisor for the Student Section of several editions of the competition.

Throughout the years she has been conceiving more works to be exhibited within the Gioielli in Fermento Master Collection and to be acquired by private collectors.

“La disciplina geometrica, codice linguistico che caratterizza la Scuola dell’oro padovana, viene acquisita dall’artista, ma interpretata dall’artista con linguaggio autonomo [...] Franzin ne coglie la lezione dedicandosi a una ricerca tenace e attenta che si risolve in soluzioni personali e di coerente poesia. L’estrema semplicità formale, la predilezione per l’argento, mai ostentato nella sua luce lunare, ma bensì brunito, battuto, niellato, con l’inserimento misurato di scaglie d’oro purissimo, danno vita ad opere di raffinata sobrietà dove i diversi trattamenmti delle superfici, con macchie, sfumature, segni e graduate tonalità, sottolineano la squisita sensibilità pittorica dell’artista.”

Maria Rosa Franzin vive e lavora a Padova.

Orafa di riferimento tra gli artisti della Scuola dell’oro di Padova, allieva di Mario Pinton, Francesco Pavan, Giampaolo Babetto, è docente ed esperta di oreficeria contemporanea, Dal 1986 al 2018 ha insegnato disegno e progettazione orafa al Liceo, già Istituto d’Arte, “Pietro Selvatico” di Padova. Inoltre dal 2015 ha tenuto corsi di specializzazione al Beijing Institute Fashion Technology.

Presidente AGC attualmente in carica, cura numerosi progetti espositivi e formativi sul gioiello contemporaneo.

Espone in gallerie private e musei, i suoi lavori sono presenti nelle collezioni permanenti di Padova (Museo Zuckermann delle Arti Applicate), Firenze (Museo degli Argenti Palazzo Pitti), New York (Museum Art and Design) e numerose altre sedi accademiche.

Maria Rosa Franzin lives and works in Padua, Italy.

Goldsmith artist from the Padua School of jewellery, her teacher was Mario Pinton, she is professor and expert in the field of contemporary jewellery. Between 1986 and 2018 she taught professional drawing and gold and metal work design at the “Pietro Selvatico” Art school in Padua and held class courses at the Beijing Institute Fashion Technology since 2015.

Franzin is AGC Chairperson and the curator of various contemporary jewellery projects.

Gioiello di ricerca come tela d’artista

Jewellery research as an artist’s canvas

Negli anni ho coltivato la passione per la pittura, informale, segnica, materica, dove il colore o un segno rappresentano un’emozione o particolare stato d’animo. Ecco cercavo qualcosa di analogo anche in oreficeria e l’ho trovato utilizzando le tecniche del niello, la granulazione o le ossidazioni in modo pittorico, informale. Un utilizzo che cambia l’aspetto dei gioielli e li rende unici.

Il mio lavoro si basa sulla spontaneità e sull’istinto. Cerco di trasferire le emozioni quotidiane nei miei gioielli in modo impulsivo.

Ciò mi permette di sviluppare opere uniche e scultoree. Mi sforzo di usare lo stesso tipo di approccio che uso quando dipingo e spesso tratto la superficie del metallo come una tela.

Questo approccio istintivo contrasta le forme geometriche precise che uso, per cui poi tutto sembra trovare la giusta via.

Over the years I gave space to my passion for painting, a kind of informal where material, color or a sign represent an emotion or a particular mood. I was looking for something similar also in jewellery and I found it using goldsmith techniques like niello, granulation and oxidation in a pictorial, informal way. A use that changes the appearance of jewels and makes them unique.

My work is based on spontaneity and instinct.

I try to transfer everyday emotions into my jewellery in an impulsive way. This method allows me to develop works that are unique and sculptural. I endeavor to use the same sort of approach as I do when painting and often treat the surface of the metal as a canvas. This instinctive approach is counteracted by the precise, geometric forms that I use, whereby everything seems to be brought back into place.

Lettera a Renzo.

Letter to Renzo.

Caro Renzo, l’artista crea il gioiello come una poesia, come una canzone; chi lo indossa, lo tocca o lo guarda canta insieme a lui quella canzone. E’ una magia del gioiello.

Le tue opere sembrano richiamare l’arte di alcuni poeti a me cari; cito da un libro di poesia di Heaney ”dare fascino della novità a cose di ogni giorno, spellarle della pellicola di familiarità che le ricopre the film of the familiarity”1, suscitare con la descrizione del naturale e dell’ordinario un sentimento analogo al soprannaturale, ma anche “mostrare le radici saldamente naturali del sentimento del sopranaturale “.2 Sento una “simpatia” per opere come ENTRANCE, EMPTY, FREEDOM; immagini in cui la descrizione è rivelazione e l’invisibile si manifesta nella visibilità assoluta.

Più ti avvicini alla materia, più ti accorgi che la sua finitezza è solo apparente, il limite sfugge.

Il limite difende e provoca, ci sfida a superarlo, ci fa scorgere l’infinito. L’amore del limite è tutt’uno col desiderio di infinito.

Quando l’uomo fu creato esplose una stella, conteneva l’eternità che si disperse in frammenti nell’universo. Caddero anche sulla Terra. L’oro e la pietra custodiscono un po’ di quell’eternità.

Dear Renzo, the artist creates a piece of jewellery like a poem, like a song; whoever wears it, touches it or looks at it singing that song with him. Jewellery is magic.

Your works seem to recall the art of some poets dear to me; I quote from a book of poetry

by Heaney “giving the charm of novelty to everyday things, peeling them off the film of familiarity that covers them”3, arousing with the description of the natural and the ordinary a feeling analogous to the supernatural, but also “to show the firmly natural roots of the feeling of the supernatural”4.

I feel a “sympathy” for works such as ENTRANCE, EMPTY, FREEDOM; images in which the description is revelation and the invisible manifests itself in absolute visibility.

The closer you get to matter, the more you realize that its finitude is only apparent, the limit escapes.

The limit defends and provokes, challenges us to overcome it, makes us see the infinite. The love of the limit is one with the desire for infinity.

When man was created a star exploded, it contained eternity that was dispersed in fragments in the universe. They also fell to Earth.

Gold and stone hold a little bit of that eternity.

Renzo Pasquale nasce a Padova nel 1947 e studia Biologia all’Università di scienze Biologiche di Padova dal 1967 al 1974. Da un incontro casuale con un grande maestro gemmologo e intagliatore di pietre preziose inizia il suo personale percorso di ricerca nell’arte della lavorazione delle pietre e dei metalli Le sue forme geometriche, le trasparenze, la grande abilità tecnica nel lavorare le pietre dure colpirono il prof. Mario Pinton che, come preside dell’Istituto d’Arte Pietro Selvatico, incaricò Renzo Pasquale di istituire un laboratorio di lavorazione artistica delle pietre dure e semipreziose e di insegnare l’arte della glittica agli allievi dell’Istituto stesso.

L’insegnamento portò Renzo a confrontarsi con altri artisti orafi dell’Istituto d’arte “Pietro Selvatico”, Francesco Pavan, Giampaolo Babetto, Diego Piazza e proprio con loro iniziò ad esporre i propri lavori in varie mostre dagli anni ’80 sino ai giorni nostri in gallerie e musei in Europa, Stati Uniti e Giappone.

Renzo Pasquale, born in Padua in 1947, studies biology at the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Padua from 1967 to 1974. A casual encounter with a master gemmologist and precious stone cutter sets him off on his personal journey of exploration in the art of working stones and metals.

The geometrical shapes, transparencies, the superb ability in working precious stones like rock crystal, granites, jasper, etc. impressed Prof. Mario Pinton who, as head of the “Pietro Selvatico” Institute of Art, charges Renzo Pasquale to set up an artistic laboratory of hardstone and semi-precious stones and also to teach this art to the students of the Institute.

Teaching brought Renzo to confront himself with other goldsmith artists of the “Pietro Selvatico” Institute of Art: Francesco Pavan, Giampaolo Babetto, Diego Piazza. It is with them that he starts to showcase his works in various exhibitions in important museums and galleries in Europe, United States and Japan, from the Eighties onwards.

Gioielli in Fermento fin dalla prima edizione, ha proposto un percorso parallelo tra arte e vino, fatto di metafore e sintonie. Sperimentare, attendere e infine offrire: fermentazione come passaggio creativo.

I temi hanno suggerito agli autori spunti tratti dal mondo del vino, dalla cultura Mediterranea e dal contesto ambientale che contraddistingue il progetto Gioielli in Fermento cogliendo, ogni anno, nuovi focus:

Tempo. E’ una questione di tempo. Il tempo dell’ansia - troppo tardi, e il tempo del sorriso - appena in tempo. Questo tempo prezioso che è buono per capire, maturare, invecchiare. Un tempo ragionevole per decantare. Il tempo necessario per affinare. Allora ci sarà tempo per brindare e celebrare. Questa spilla è circolare come ciclico è il tempo. I tre elementi trasparenti rappresentano passato, presente e futuro.

Blu come il cielo, immutabile e mai uguale, metafora dell’infinito. E l’oro, perché nulla è più prezioso del tempo.

Time. It’s a matter of time. Time of anxiety - it’s too late, and time of smile - just in time. This precious time that is good to understand, to mature, to grow old. A reasonable time to settle. The necessary time to decant. Then, there will be time to make a toast and celebrate. The brooch is circular as time is cyclic. The three transparent elements represent past, present and future. Blue as the sky, unchanging and never the same, metaphor of infinity. And gold because nothing is more precious than time.

La vita respira, producendo nuova vita con il proprio bagaglio di cellule e pensieri. Cambiamenti costanti, che trasformano il proprio essere per adattarsi meglio al mondo. Cos’è tutto ciò se non fermento?

La fermentazione fa vivere l’arte del metallo.

Quest’opera è un tentativo di catturare quei primi respiri nell’arte, l’inizio della fermentazione. Ogni pezzo è ossidato per trasformare l’argento riflettente in una superficie opaca, scura e in armonia con l’oro che si trasforma da sé completamente. Una volta che l’arte respira, rilascia la sua energia a poco a poco. E chi la indossa diventa parte di quel processo.

Life is breathing, producing new life with your own set of cells and thoughts. Constant changes, transforming your own being in order to better fit in the world. Isn’t that all what fermentation is?

Fermentation makes metal art live. Meteor Brooch is an attempt to capture those first breaths in art, the beginning of fermentation. Each piece is oxidized to transform the reflective silver into a matte, dark surface and harmonize with gold transforming completely into its own. Once art breathes, it doesn’t let go of its life so quickly. And the wearer become part of that process.

Con l’invecchiamento del pianeta, lo stress si accumula nelle placche che conformano la crosta del globo. Le forze tettoniche piegano e deformano gli strati con una meravigliosa teoria di linee e colori. Colpita da queste forze variabili della natura che producono un nuovo ordine e deformano il paesaggio secondo una fine geometria artistico architettonica, rifletto sulla storia geografica ed il passare del tempo. Le nuove linee parallele ci consentono di riflettere sulle forze effimere che incidono sull’ambiente provandone l’eleganza nell’invecchiamento e nella trasformazione.

As the earth ages, stress builds up within the slabs that conform the globe’s crust. These tectonic forces bend and deform the strata with a wonderful exhibition of lines and color. Motivated by these altered forms in nature that produce a new order and warp the landscape into marvelous geometric architectural art, I refer to geographical history and the passage of time. The redirected parallel lines allow us to reflect on ephemeral forces that impact the environment in an effort to understand the elegance of aging and transformation.

La trasformazione è la chiave della fermentazione, elementi semplici in origine diventano compositi e si moltiplicano in una varietà di particelle grandi e piccole, aromatiche e essenziali che andranno a formare la complessità del vino. La spilla rappresenta questo percorso di affinamento nella sua accezione più positiva, una pioggia di molecole che maturano e sedimentano all’interno di un ambiente fertile e controllato. Così come il vino anche l’arte ha bisogno degli stessi elementi per comunicare un messaggio positivo di crescita e affinamento.

Transformation is the key for fermentation. What is at a first a simple matter, multiplies in a variety of small and large particles, which will eventually compose the aromatic complexity of the wine. The brooch shows this evolving path in its most positive meaning: a shower of molecules aging within a fertile and controlled environment. Like wine, art needs the same elements in order to communicate a message of growth and evolution..

Dania Chelminsky Mexico | Israel selected artist Gioielli in Fermento 2020 Il cactus Opuntia (il fico d’India) è di origine messicana, come l’autrice.

La pianta ha un simbolismo simile nelle culture messicana, israeliana e palestinese. Rappresenta l’immigrazione, l’insediamento, il radicamento e la località. E’ anche usata per delimitare i villaggi. E si estende anche oltre i confini dei vari paesi. Come gli immigrati, adotta le caratteristiche locali pur mantenendo gli attributi del paese d’origine, portando sempre con sé un conflitto di identità. Le sue spine funzionano in questa collana come difese e connessioni.

The Opuntia ficus indica plant (Prickly pear) is Mexican, like the artist. This plant has similar symbolism in the Mexican, Israeli and Palestinian cultures. It symbolizes immigration, settlement, rootedness and locality. This plant constitutes a border between villages.

It also crosses borders between different countries. Like immigrants, it adopts local characteristics while maintaining attributes of the original country, always carrying a conflict of identity. Its spines function in this necklace as prongs and connections.

Evoluzione e affinamento.

Come nel vino, che a seconda della qualità dei suoi componenti, maturando lentamente, si evolve ripagando la fatica e la terra che lo ha generato, così la successione lenta del tempo agisce sulla qualità delle riflessioni dell’artista, sul suo lavoro, attivando quel processo complesso dove le esperienze della vita e il suo costante impegno evolvono arricchendo i risultati della sua ricerca.

Aging and evolution.

As in wine, which according to the quality of its slowly maturing components, evolves, by repaying the effort and the earth that generated it, so the slow passing of time increases the quality of the artist’s reflections, on his work, activating that complex process where life experiences and his constant commitment evolve enriching the results of his research.

L’autrice ha deciso di impiegare le tecniche giapponesi, piuttosto rare nella gioielleria moderna.

In modo inconsueto, abbina la sua idea al design basato su questa tecnica tradizionale. L’importanza dell’accuratezza e del lavoro netto e ordinato é per lei imprescindibile. Seppure abbia ottenuto il risultato imperfetto da un calco di sabbia, lo trasforma in qualcosa di autentico come in una sorta di maturazione tecnica. Gli acini d’uva bianca e rossa possono essere raccolti - qui svitati - una volta maturi.

Abbandonano la terra - il gambo nero dell’anello - per far germogliare i nuovi semi - l’oro - in evoluzione.

The artist decided to use Japanese methods as they are rather uncommon in the jewellery field. She uses them in an unconventional way to match her ideas and design based on traditional Japanese techniques.

The importance of accuracy and neat, clean work remains necessary. She’s using the imperfect result of a sand cast, but transforming it into something authentic as a techniques maturation. The green and purple grapes can be harvested - unscrewed - once matured and ripe. They are leaving the soil - the black ring - behind to grasp the opportunity for new seeds - gold - to sprout again - evolution.

Un filtro industriale di acciaio inossidabile lavorato e trasformato, per dare struttura al vuoto, inteso come spazio intimo, fisico e mentale, in cui in un’osmosi tra esterno e interno, tra esperienze e sentimenti diamo forma nel tempo al nostro essere. Uno spazio anche mentale, oltre che fisico, in cui tutto è libero, tutto può accadere e tutto può cambiare e trasformarsi. Uno spazio prezioso e personale, dove i pensieri e le emozioni possono fluire divenendo così il luogo in cui ci lasciamo attraversare dall’esistenza.

Diorama è una spilla che raffigura il ciclo vitale della falena Deilephila elpenor, comunemente detta “sfinge della vite”. Sul ramo di vite, composto da resina e carbone, vengono rappresentati i quattro stadi di sviluppo del lepidottero: le uova sono formate da perle di fiume e spilli entomologici, mentre il bruco, la crisalide e la falena sono realizzati in Corian. Diorama è un ornamento che racconta la storia di un’evoluzione. È parte di un percorso di ricerca personale sull’osservazione della natura che vuole andare oltre l’estetica e diffondere piccole storie nascoste.

Diorama is a brooch depicting the life cycle of the moth Deilephila elpenor, commonly known as “sfinge della vite” (vine sphinx). The four stages of the moth metamorphosis are displayed on a vine branch composed of resin and coal. The eggs are composed of freshwater pearls and entomological pins, while the caterpillar, the chrysalis and the moths are made of Corian. Diorama is an ornament that tells the story of an evolution. It is part of a personal research path on the observation of nature that wants to go beyond aesthetics and share little unseen stories.

In quest’opera, i processi di produzione riguardanti la trasformazione della plastica e la fusione in argento rappresentano l’equilibrio tra impegno e spontaneità, che dà il sapore al lavoro, come essere in un “fluire”.

Aging is about being fluid, in a state of balance between executing and observing, evaluating when to perfection or to surrender. In this work, all producing process regarding the transformation of plastic and the casting in silver represent the equilibrium between engagement and spontaneity, which gives the taste to the work, like being in a “flow”.

Mi soffermo sull’interazione tra ciò che è prevedibile e controllabile e ciò che invece non lo è in un dialogo poetico che cerca equilibrio e forza espressiva. La ricerca di materiali e tecniche nuove da integrare nel mio percorso più tradizionale e controllato di oreficeria sono una spinta al cambiamento.

Nel campo magnetico con le sue variabili, il suo potenziale espressivo, la risposta di diversi materiali sperimentati, dò forma alle mie idee. Il processo creativo diventa l’oggetto in sé, in un pezzo infatti si legge la sua genesi, dove sono le forze e come si sono spostate tra loro.

I focus on the interaction between what is foreseeable, under control, and what is unpredictable, in a dialogue that seeks its balance and its expressive force. The generating magnetic forces animate this piece with a tension that drags order into new dimensions. The search for new materials and techniques, integrated with my traditional and controlled process of goldsmithing, is a push to change. I learnt to use magnetic fields with all their variables, their expressive potential, the response of different materials tested, and above all to direct all these information to express my ideas.

Il titolo evoca una connessione tra la materia ed una nuova dimensione. Questa collana si muove, fluisce, tende ad uno spazio che vuole andare oltre. I suoi componenti descrivono un movimento di calibrato avvicinamento ad un momentaneo distacco, un combinarsi fluido e mai uguale che ricorda l’andare e venire delle onde del mare. In quest’opera ho voluto imprimere il concetto di fuga dalla canonicità delle geometrie precise verso un’asimmetria sospesa tra equilibrio e movimento. Questa collana evoca uno sguardo aperto a nuovi scenari, mantenendo i connotati propri del mio percorso.

The title suggests a connection between the physical matter and a new dimension. This necklace moves, flows, strives to go somewhere beyond. Its components describe amovement of calibrated approach to a temporary detachment, a fluid combining that is never the same and that reminds of sea waves coming and going. In this work I wanted to impress the idea of an escape from canonical, precise geometries towards an asymmetry hovering between balance and movement. This necklace evokes a glance opening up to new views, maintaining the features that are proper of my path.

La progettazione 3d sta irrompendo nel sistema orafo. Con “Digital black grapes” ho esplorato il pregiudizio e il senso di perdita di un sapere e una creatività manuale che questo fenomeno spesso porta con sé. Aging/Evolution: con la struttura rigida ho esaltato l’aspetto della programmazione digitale. Modificando volutamente i parametri della stampante 3d, ho invece ottenuto una texture più sgranata, che gioca sull’ambiguità tra il pixel e il naturale. Sustainability: per i rami ho usato i supporti di crescita creati automaticamente dai software per sostenere i pezzi in fase di stampa.

With “Digital black grapes” I did explore the prejudice and sense of loss of manual knowledge and creativity that this phenomenon often brings with it. Aging/Evolution: with the rigid structure, I have enhanced the aspect of digital programming.

By deliberately modifying the parameters of the 3d printer, I have instead obtained more grainy texture, which plays on the ambiguity between the pixel and the natural. Sustainability: for branches, I have used the growth supports automatically created by the software to support the printing pieces.

Rappresenta dieci steli che creano una rete. Sono cresciuti e intrecciati, nel tempo son riusciti a rafforzarsi. Nella tecnica del coupage, vini di qualità eccezionali si integrano per formare un corpo superlativo. Allo stesso modo, il progetto Gioielli in Fermento, con la sua continua ricerca, ha offerto sempre più versioni di bellezza e conoscenza. Le esperienze passate alimentano il nostro presente.

Essere sensibili ad esse è un possibile percorso verso l’evoluzione.

“Synchrony” is an allegory of Gioielli in Fermento project, which turns ten. It represents ten stems that set up a net. They grew and entwined, merged and over time, they managed to strengthen. In the coupage technique, wines of outstanding qualities complement each other to form a superlative body.

Similarly, Gioielli in Fermento, with its sustained quest for concepts, has been increasingly offering versions of beauty and wisdom. Past experiences feed our present. Being sensitive to them is a possible path towards evolution.

Le forme del raspo dell’uva hanno sempre affascinato l’artista, come ogni forma naturale intricata. Ha creato dunque un anello che sottolineasse la sua importanza in quanto collegamento fra il chicco ed il resto della vite. Ed ha voluto rappresentarlo “nudo”, senza acini, per conferirgli la massima importanza.

Il colore caldo del bronzo rosso si stempera in un’ossidazione che parla del tempo che passa, della bellezza di elementi discreti che svolgono la loro funzione per poi perire. Ma senza di loro non ci sarebbe nutrimento, non ci sarebbe vita.

The shapes of the grape stem have always fascinated the artist, like any intricate natural shape. She created a ring that underlined its importance, being it the connection between the grain and the rest of the vine. And she wanted to represent it “naked”, without grapes, to give it the utmost importance.

The warm color of red bronze is faded in an oxidation that speaks of time passing, the beauty of discreet elements that perform their function and then perish. But without them, there would be no nourishment, there would be no life.

The cup is a main motif in the artist’s jewelry. She wish to put her thoughts, her hobbies, her interests in a pot that could hold anything.

Aiming to sublimate a traditional technique (pomocksanggam technique; that is, a traditional art of inlaying) into a modern image; this is expressed in a lyrical shape and exhibits the zest for life.

This titanium and silver brooch is composed of around 30 pieces and riveted together with around 60 rivets. A continuous circle of experience, difference, progression, quality and color. As are the circles in a glass of wine, which appear when the glass is moved, so the movement pushes us towards progression and endless desire to create.

Implicano il continuo affinamento della sua consapevolezza, si tratta di andare oltre il già esistente in nuove direzioni, su percorsi non ancora conosciuti. Si tratta anche di lasciarsi sorprendere durante tutto il processo di lavoro e di non pianificare tutto in anticipo: “Accetta questa sfida ancora e ancora...”.

Evolution and refinement, in Hart’s vision, are part of her daily praxis as an artist. They imply continuous refinement to her awareness, it is about going beyond the already existing into new directions, on paths not yet known. It is also about letting herself being surprised throughout the working process and not planning everything beforehand: “Take up this challenge again and again”.

Quella mancanza d’aria mi ha spinto a cercare altre motivazioni nella vita. È così che ho trovato il gioiello. Suppongo di essere una metafora vivente di ciò che accade nella fermentazione: un organismo che, in assenza di aria come lo ha definito Pasteur - genera un’energia che lo porta a trasformarsi per sopravvivere.

For years I worked in a profession that was asphyxiating me. I literally felt I lacked oxygen. That lack of air drove me to look for other motivations in my life. That’s how I found jewelry. I suppose I am a living metaphor of what happens in #fermentation: an organism that, in the absence of air - as Pasteur defined it - generates an energy that leads it to transform itself to survive.

Il presente è tutto ciò che abbiamo, e dobbiamo abbracciarlo, adattarci il più possibile e permetterci di aprirci e goderci ciò che sta accadendo proprio davanti a noi. Questa spilla rappresenta il viaggio verso l’ignoto, come il materiale che evolve con le forze naturali che gli danno nuova vita e significato.

In life, whatever is familiar is either gone or going and we have to learn how to let go and relish change which creates space for fresh beginnings. The present is all we have, and we must embrace it, adapting as much as we can, and allowing ourselves to open up and enjoy what is unfolding right in front of us. This brooch represents the journey to the unknown as the material evolved through natural forces that give new life and meaning to it.

La spilla raffigura un ciclo naturale in continua evoluzione. L’energia viene dal sole, che brilla come oro. Tutto ciò che vive raggiunge la maturità ad un suo proprio livello: animali, esseri umani, piante e altri organismi. Il gioiello è scolpito in ontano e richiama arcobaleni, stagioni e aurore boreali accennate sulla sua superficie. Nel mezzo frammenti di mela hanno raggiunto un nuovo stato. La mela rappresenta la mente dell’uomo che si alimenta nel corso della vita e come il vino migliora con l’invecchiamento. La mela è un simbolo nella storia dell’umanità, rappresentadone l’origine e la maturità.

The brooch depicts a constantly changing nature cycle. Energy comes from the sun, which shines golden. Everything living reaches maturity at its own level: animals, humans, plants and other organisms.

The jewel is carved from alder and has rainbows, seasons and northern lights splashing on its surface.

In the middle is a piece of apple that has reached a new state. The apple represents the brain, it develops throughout life as good wine heals as you grow older. The significance of the apple in the story of mankind’s creation is significant and symbolises the beginning and maturity.

Proviamo spesso gioia in attesa dei risultati dei nostri sforzi. La natura non fiorisce direttamente dalle radici. Molti sono interessati ai frutti, ma la vera maturità riguarda gli alberi. Ci sono cose più preziose che non puoi vedere. Sembrerebbe una semplice linea, ma ci sono migliaia di punti di saldatura e smerigliatura nascosti. Sembra rigida, invece è flessibile. E lentamente, nel suo procedere, la collana si rivela facendola scorrere tra le mani, sta fermentando.

We often try to taste joy before putting the effort in the expectation of results. Most people are interested in the fruit, but true aging is about the trees. There are more precious things that you can’t see. It may look like a simple line, but hidden away is the process of having been welded and sanded thousands of times. It looks strong, but it’s flexible. And slowly, like a process, the necklace reveals itself under the guidance of human hands, as if it was fermenting.

Frammento di sapone, consumato da un intimo rituale quotidiano. Ricollegando questo materiale al corpo sottoforma di gioiello, evoco un’esperienza sensuale con le intenzioni di un dialogo più privato. È probabile che il sapone continui a cambiare nel tempo, rimodellando di nuovo la storia visiva e il valore di queste forme momentanee e mutabili. La presenza del materiale serve a ricordare il proprio mutamento in una sorta di erosione corporea e scambio fisiologico.

Transformed through the daily ritual of bathing, these forms convey a tactile/intimate relationship between owner and object. By reconnecting this material to the body as jewelry, I evoke a sensual experience with intentions of a more private dialogue. It is likely that the soap will continue to change over time, again reshaping the visual history and value of these momentary, mutable forms. The presence of the material serves as a reminder of its own corporeal erosion and this physiological exchange.

Per me, gli spazi e le loro finestre e le viste attraverso di esse rimangono come immagini nei ricordi, come scene fotografate. I ricordi dalle finestre esistono come simboli di richiamo e contengono una miscela di spazi specifici e di sentimenti connessi ad essi. In questo senso sono un mezzo che collega non solo il mondo intimo ed il mondo esterno, ma anche il passato e il presente. I sentimenti e i ricordi suscitati guardando attraverso le finestre rimangono con noi come fossero immagini. Inoltre, ogni scena generata dai ricordi rimane una reminiscenza perpetua che si trasforma e stratifica.

Il processo di realizzazione del mio lavoro è simile a un viaggio o a un’evoluzione verso l’oggetto finale. Un tentativo di mostrare il loro processo di sviluppo e maturazione attraverso i miei occhi.

Ciò attraversa tutti gli aspetti dall’inizio alla fine, dalla crescita nella creatività, alle tecniche e ai materiali utilizzati. Pertanto ritengo che ciò sia anche un’evoluzione. Da giapponese, lo Zen è una parte molto importante della mia vita. Lo Zen è come un cerchio, un cambiamento o, per meglio per dire, una metamorfosi e considero i miei lavori in questo modo: un processo di maturazione ed evoluzione.

The process in the making of my work is similar to a journey or evolution to the final pieces. So they are an attempt to show the process of development and or aging through my eyes. L’invecchiamento non è il tempo stesso che se ne va, sono i frammenti e la struttura dei ricordi che portiamo con noi e quella raccolta di eventi che ci sono accaduti. Da loro siamo determinati e lo siamo anche dai frammenti di memoria mancanti. I ricordi possono essere leggeri e miti o pesanti come una pietra sul cuore. La struttura compatta e forte dei frammenti positivi del ricordo è rappresentata dal cartone, sezionato in piccoli pezzi tutti rimontati insieme, che termina con una falda di cemento rigido che, nonostante la sua presunta rigidità, è la parte più fragile di tutto l’oggetto.

Oggi ci troviamo spesso di fronte a uve senza semi, spogliate della loro fonte di vita. Allora ha riportato in primo piano questi elementi, per enfatizzarli. Dopo aver trovato i semi, ha sperimentato la loro forma ed il loro significato.

Una volta dorati, li vedeva come piccole teste di uccelli e ha visto “volare” i chicchi d’uva, capaci di muoversi liberamente e con leggerezza ma carichi di significato. Così sono nati gli orecchini ai vinaccioli.

Thinking of wine, the artist was drawn to its textures and colors. Her attention fell to grapes and especially their seeds; tiny but essential and the literal roots of all wine. Yet today, we are often confronted with seedless grapes, stripped of their source of life.

This motivated her to bring these grains back to the forefront; to glamourize them. After her hunt for seeds, she experimented with their shape and meaning. Once gilded, she recognized them as tiny bird heads and saw the grape grains “flying”, able to move freely and lightly yet loaded with meaning.

This was the birth of grape-grain earrings.

Ho lavorato su questa tecnica come lavoro sul modo di esprimermi. Questo lavoro è stato ispirato dalla tecnica dell’intreccio utilizzata per gli accessori del kimono, detta “Obijime” per la sua bellezza. Volevo esprimere quel tipo di bellezza nei miei gioielli in metallo. Questa collana trasforma ciò che ci è stato tramandato fin dai tempi antichi nella nostra vita quotidiana con espressioni moderne come evoluzione. Le parti frontali della collana sono una trama creata assemblando una sottile lamina d’argento e i movimenti nella sua forma sono ispirati al concetto di evoluzione.

I have been working on this technique as well as on my way of expression. This work was inspired by the braiding technique used for kimono accessories which is called “Obijime” because of it’s beauty.

I wanted to to express that beauty in my metal jewellery. This necklace is transforming what has been passed down since ancient times in our daily life with modern expressions as an evolution. The front parts of the necklace is a texture created by assembling a thin silver plate and the movements in it’s shape are inspired from the concept of evolution. .

Le forme della spilla “Lace” richiamano il movimento fluido del vino come se fosse cristallizzato e decorato come un pizzo. Partendo dal concetto classico di gioiello come ornamento, nella sua funzione di abbellire e valorizzare la persona che lo indossa, l’oggetto che ho ideato segue la tradizione ma al contempo si colloca nel nostro tempo attraverso la massima evoluzione della stampa3d quella applicata al metallo.

The shape of the “Lace” brooch recalls the fluid movement of wine as if it was crystallized and decorated like an embroidery texture. Starting from the classic concept of jewelry as an ornament, in its function of embellishing and giving value to the person who wears it, my object follows tradition but at the same time it is highly contemporary through the maximum #evolution of 3dprinting i.e. the one applied to metal. .

Il numero zero rappresenta il vuoto, totale assenza di qualcosa. Il vuoto porta con sé il tutto, poiché è il preludio a tutte le cose e la possibilità di fare qualsiasi cosa, è lo spazio necessario per creare e dare vita. Lo zero rappresenta l’inizio del viaggio, e quindi è in assoluto la rappresentazione metaforica di un percorso.

The zero number represents the void, total absence of anything. The void brings the whole with it, because it is the prelude to all things and the possibility of doing anything, it is the necessary space needed to create and give life. The zero represents the beginning of the journey, and therefore is the in full metaphorical representation of a path.

Anni di decantazione per cogliere come realizzare il “suo” Gioiello in Fermento, esprimendo al meglio il proprio carattere. Dopo questa lunga degustazione, oggi l’autrice rappresenta il suo “io” a partire dal simbolo dei sommelier: il tastevin. Indice di una crescente maturazione tale da poterlo definire suo proprio. Dalla tradizione inizia l’evoluzione di Zecchini, equilibrata tra antico e contemporaneo.

Nasce “Mon tastevin”, un gioiello pensato per assaporare l’arte in tutto il suo “corpo”. L’affinamento passa attraverso il colore e la sensibilità del movimento condizionato di centinaia di perni.

Years of decanting to understand how to do Gioielli in Fermento her own way, expressing artist’s own personality. After this long tasting experience, she represents herself today, starting from the symbol of the sommeliers: the tastevin. It shows a growing maturity that allows Zecchini to feel it hers. Her evolution begins from tradition, in between antique and contemporary. “Mon Tastevin”, a jewel designed to savor art in all its “body”. Refinement passes through colors and sensitivity of the conditioned movement of pins. The intense and delicate taste of art can be savored as a whole.

AGC Associazione Gioiello Contemporaneo, è una organizzazione no-profit nata per valorizzare e diffondere la cultura del gioiello contemporaneo intesa come: 1. Ricerca artistica 2. Innovazione del concetto di ornamento 3. Sperimentazione di nuovi materiali e tecnologie 4. Tutela, studio e attualizzazione del patrimonio storico di conoscenze e abilità AGC è stata fondata a Trieste nel giugno 2004 da un gruppo di professionisti per costruire nuove opportunità di sviluppo e qualificazione del settore orafo; per promuovere un confronto costruttivo e sinergico con le realtà artistiche e produttive nazionali in stretto contatto con la comunità internazionale.

AGC, the Italian Association for Contemporary jewellery, is a no-profit organisation founded to spread and enhance the contemporary jewellery culture, meant as: 1. Artistic research 2. Innovation of the concept of ornament 3. Experimentation of new materials and technologies 4. Safeguarding, studying and updating the historical heritage of knowledge and skills AGC was founded at Trieste in June 2004 by a group of professionals in order to devise new opportunities for the development and qualification of the Goldsmith sector; to promote a constructive and synergic comparison with the national artistic and production realities, staying in close contact with the international community.

Founder members: Patrizia Bonati, Andrea Lombardo, Rita Marcangelo, Alessia Semeraro, Maurizio Stagni, Rossella Tornquist Board of Directors is composed of AGC members. The members of the Board also take part, as volunteers and free of charge, in the Executive Committee which organises AGC activities. AGC operates according to ethics which respect not only people but also the environment, and in conformity with a methodology of project aimed at favouring the improvement of the quality by comparing and verifying the results.

Le Arti Orafe Jewellery School

Fondata nel 1985 da Giò Carbone, LAO è stata la prima scuola italiana dedicata alla ricerca orafa contemporanea e sin dall’inizio ha incoraggiato e promosso un processo di apprendimento che enfatizza le competenze tecniche e professionali, unite alla ricerca artistica e al design contemporaneo.

LAO ha inventato e sperimentato un programma di apprendimento che ha messo l’accento sulla rielaborazione anti-convenzionale delle procedure e delle tecniche tradizionali, combinando la conoscenza dell’artigianato con concetti contemporanei, esplorando l’uso creativo dei materiali tradizionali e introducendone altri completamente innovativi.

Questo metodo di insegnamento è diventato presto un modello, che ha portato alla fondazione di altre scuole e è stato premiato con l’arrivo a Firenze di centinaia di studenti provenienti da tutto il mondo.

I processi, le funzioni, i significati e l’uso sociale dei gioielli si sono evoluti in modo sorprendente sin dagli anni Settanta del XX secolo, con l’avvento di artisti e orafi che hanno condotto le loro ricerche sulla gioielleria contemporanea.

Il modo di insegnare e apprendere la gioielleria è cambiato, insieme ai suoi strumenti e alla sua comunicazione, e LAO è sempre stato strumentale a questa costante evoluzione: un luogo di innovazione e sperimentazione, permanentemente un passo avanti, grazie alla visionarietà e alla libertà che hanno sempre contraddistinto questa scuola, che è oggi una delle più importanti in Europa, è un’agenzia di formazione europea accreditata e un’entità autorizzata per progetti Erasmus.

LAO ha sempre dedicato molta attenzione e energia alla promozione della cultura del gioiello, e dal 2005 realizza PREZIOSA, evento internazionale che raggruppa artisti, curatori e amanti del gioiello provenienti da ogni parte del mondo.

Established in 1985 by Giò Carbone, LAO was the first Italian school devoted to contemporary jewellery, and since the very beginning has encouraged and promoted a learning process emphasizing technical and professional skills, combined with artistic research and contemporary design.

LAO invented and experimented with a training programme that put the stress on anti-conventional reworking of traditional procedures and techniques, combining the knowledge of craftsmanship with contemporary concepts, exploring the creative use of traditional materials and introducing other, completely innovative ones.

This teaching method soon became a model, leading to the founding of other schools and rewarded with the arrival in Florence of hundreds of students from all over the world.

The processes, the functions, the meanings and the social use of jewels has evolved in surprising ways since the Seventies of the XX century, with the advent of artists and goldsmiths who conducted their research on contemporary jewellery.

The way of teaching and learning about jewellery has changed, together with its instruments and communication, and LAO has always been instrumental to this constant evolution: a place of innovation and experimentation, permanently a step forward, thanks to the visionaries and the freedom that have always marked this school, which is today one of the most important in Europe, it is an Accredited European Training Agency, and an Authorized entity for Erasmus projects.

LAO has always dedicated attention and energy to the promotion of the culture of jewelry, and since 2005 organizes PREZIOSA, an international event that brings together artists, curators and jewel lovers from all over the world.

Si focalizza sui progetti di studio sul gioiello ed i loro aspetti teorici e pratici.

Promuove la ricerca sul gioiello in termini di materiali, tecniche, tecnologie, metodologie, processi, concetti ed estetica.

La rivista costituisce una piattaforma interdisciplinare per la discussione e l’analisi della gioielleria spaziando nelle aree concettuali, pratiche, pedagogiche e culturali sia in prospettiva storica che contemporanea, considerando il gioiello nel ricco ambito delle metodologie creative al crocevia tra il gioiello stesso e le altre discipline creative.

Ci si pone l’obiettivo di pubblicare saggi originali che testimoniano ricerche consolidate e che rappresentano un chiaro contributo allo stato dell’arte.

Con questo intendimento, incoraggiamo operatori, ricercatori, critici, curatori e storici dell’arte a presentare i loro studi.

The Journal is a peer-reviewed online and open-access publication that focuses on the design, theory and praxis of jewellery studies. It promotes jewellery research into materials, techniques, technologies, methodologies, processes, concepts and aesthetics. The journal provides an interdisciplinary arena for the discussion and analysis of jewellery spanning the conceptual, practical, pedagogical and cultural across both contemporary and historical timeframes to consider jewellery within the wealth of creative methodologies at the intersections between jewellery and other disciplines. We aim to publish original papers that have demonstrable research and a clear contribution to existing knowledge – to this end we foster submissions from practitioners, researchers, theorists, curators, and historians.

The Women of Wine in Italy and in Emilia-Romagna region

L’Associazione Nazionale Le Donne del Vino, formatasi nel 1988, conta oggi oltre 900 iscritte che rappresentano tutte le categorie della filiera vitivinicola, dal vigneto alla cantina, dalla tavola alla comunicazione.

Produttrici, Ristoratrici, Enotecarie, Sommelier e Giornaliste, in tutta Italia con la loro attività promuovono la cultura del vino nel senso più ampio.

E’ uno dei sodalizi più attivi e vivaci nel vasto scenario enogastronomico ed è tra le espressioni più interessanti dell’imprenditoria femminile, che ha saputo proporre, con operosità, una diversa chiave di lettura rispetto al mondo maschile.
