In my view, a project is similar to a spider web, a non linear process.

I take advantage of this by embracing an adaptive method, in order to make the best decisions possible based on each design challenge.

My tools in this method are Research, Production Sustainability and Storytelling.

In addition to my design studies, I’m a very passionate musician. I have been studying music since the age of 12, and these experiences taught me a lot about workflow management and method analysis.

What hides behind hybridation between pure technology and wearable objects?

The role of perception in the design process.

Auris, more than a product, is the result of an earphone design process that has been voluntarily contaminated with an alien factor: the jewellery world. The centre of the project is in fact the process itself: during the development we observed just like scientists with a microscope how the choices and the outputs changed when we purposely contaminated the main theme of the earphone with the very contrastant elements coming from the jewel world. Here, functionality works in a totally different way and the wearability of the object plays a way more important role than the simple tech device.

The jewellery world, in addition to its cosmetic functionality, has a very important historical value. The study of jewellery manufacturing permits us to obtain a lot of information about the technological progress of populations from different locations and time.

Based on this, we chose titanium as the main material, combined with 3d printing technologies to achieve the complex and thin geometries of the object. This material is the metal of the 21th century for its strength, lightness and adaptability to humanoriented applications. The choice of the earphone is not casual either and is still based

on the studies around the jewellery world. Historically jewels had a political role along their decorative one and they reflected symbols that were important for their cultural environment. Just think about the Koh-i-noor diamond on the crown of the United Kingdom, religious symbols on rings and necklaces, sun god representations of pre-Columbian civilizations or even the pure economic value of nowadays jewels. Today, instant communication has a central role in our everyday lives, and it defines our era. Auris symbolically carries this aspect, allowing us to speak and listen through our phones.

The charging case is a satinated clip that can be worn as tie clip or anything else. The case can be charged with a simple USB-C cable.

Prosthesis.

Murano glass waste gets revived by love and dedication. A project about learning to find opportunities everywhere and the role of volition in the design process.

Prosthesis is a collection of flower pots born from some casually found Murano glass pieces. During the art exhibition “Tungsteno” at CARE/OF, the directors of this gallery wanted a last minute flower decoration for the buffet table. Looking around in the rooms we found some unused Murano samples and we decided to give them a new life. These glass cylinders were seen as incomplete objects; this point of view permitted us to elaborate the pot archetype and design the missing parts with different approaches and ad-hoc 3d printed parts.

The first step was scanning the samples, in order to create a unique prosthesis for each piece. Some pots were designed replicating or exaggerating superficial textures, with a graphicoriented result and a more simple shapes. The others with an opposite approach: the archetype was broken down analytically.

The minimum requirements of a vase were isolated and each one redesigned in order to find new shapes that respected those needs.

This project, despite its simplicity, embodies the key points of the typical design process. The will to create

new shapes, the stubbornness of maintaining a value in the project, the will to tell a story and last but not least, the human desire to make our life a little better.

The vases, in the end, were gifted to a local flower shop that provided us with the flowers.

Mula.

What can a stone mill tell us about production capabilities and daily rituals?

A case study between a company and a designer.

The semantic field of the word “house” act as a guide of the design process. The choice of the piedmontese manufacturer company “Italpietre” (specialists in Luserna Stone, a variety of stone unique to Piedmont, Italy) and the will to design a kitchen tool, gave the possibility to investigate both the production possibilities of companies and the rituals inside such an important place of the house, the kitchen.

From the complex relationship between local production and the design world, Mula is born.

The stone mill is a forgotten tool in the common western kitchen, but in other cultures like in northAfrica, middle east and Asia is still widely used nowdays.

Such a simple and accessible technology plays an important role in the processing of raw materials to create spices and vegetable beverages.

The rise in consumption in Europe of these drinks can potentially be an invite to introduce those preparations in our everyday life, in a society that often make economically difficult the access to cruelty free and plant based food.

The Luserna is a lamellar stone, meaning that it has a layered

structure. This feature imposes in the majority of cases a production of slabs, both for exalt the sparlking veins of quartz inside the stone and make production easier. From this peculiarity we made the choice of a layered-stonemill, rather than a classic monolithic cilinder; this give to Mula a unique shape and strongly communicate the limits but also the qualities of this material.

The internal engravings, called “harps”, are different based on the type of milling process, and can be switched.

Industrial Casalingo.

Self-production possibilities applied to an exhibit.

The importance of context in people’s perception of art and design.

Industrial Casalingo is a multidisciplinary project that involves various areas such as product design, communication design and exhibit design.

The theme of the exhibit was about kitchen tools; we designed ten domestic objects that could be used in everyday life. My contribution to this was Mula. The tools were ment to be used by people and for this reason we decided that people must see them closely and touch them in an informal location. We made a mobile exhibit that could be shown in the most crowded districts of the city of Turin, like Porta Palazzo, the biggest open air market in Europe.

My major role in this project was in the expositor design.

Considering the will of showing the exhibit around, the better choice was to create a shared surface for the tools, with no hierarchy between them and a 360° visibility.

Also, the expositor should has space for the info banners. To achieve this, the better configuration was with an upper support, with the banners hanging from it.

The three expositors were made with simple materials like broomsticks and wood planks kept together with 3d printed joints. Only a screwdriver was needed to assemble the expositor.

Liminality.

Objects gives meaning to the location they are placed in.

What kind of objects could be designed for a space without identity?

An ashtray on a table gives the information about the possibility of smoking, a mailbox transforms an empty field into a private field, and if a room has a whiteboard in it, probably it’s a classroom. is born from the union between those statements and the will to find a place without objects designed for it, a place without an identity. Those places exist, and are entrance halls. This collection of objects was designed after an in-depth analysis of the habits and actions that people perform in these areas, regardless of whether they live there or not.

is a delivery-food stand, designed for riders. The rider’s job is often invisible to us, “who live safe in our warm houses”. Giving them an object related to their job, means giving them a space in our homes. is a mailbox designed for packages. Nowadays habits have underlined how we dont’ have a solution for package delivery. With a simple system, small packages slide in the front of the box and the big ones stay on the top. is a system of blind windows, made for hide all of those new objects that are part of our life, like scooters,

Bikes and strollers. This object from the past finds a new life simply by leaving the home. is a totem. Water, for ages, created community around it. This well at the same way, induces curiosity and create a spot where people can meet, between the cold walls of the entrance.

All of these objects were inspired by architectural elements, as they will be the foundations of a new concept of living in our entrance halls.

The colour gradient links the objects together and gives to them an ethereal presence.

Sospetto.

Practical solutions to annoying problems. How can a coffee table intervene with an architectural feature that became an obstacle to our new habits?

With the growing amount of devices in our pockets, and the common habit of working away from home, electrical systems has become ineffective. Even with floor outlets or other statics solutions spaces like universities, libraries and co-working areas are not very effective with large numbers of people in them. Sospetto doesn’t want to be a substitute, but a collaborator to these already existent devices, thanks to a new factor: mobility.

Sospetto means “suspect”, and refers to its unusual shape, that seems to be hiding something: in fact, a battery.

In addition to its main function, it can help non-work areas that cannot be provided with electrical outlets, like terraces, dehors or kiosks.

It can provide 36 average phone charges, 15 average tablet charges or 9 hours of laptop autonomy (estimate capacity based on the battery volume). The upper plate can be switched based on each situation, and can be arranged with USB or regional sockets.

To check the energy level of Sospetto, a LED ring lights up, and resembles the graphic language used by phones.
