Historic building going ‘green’ in downtown Dayton By Tara Hastings

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A downtown Dayton building is getting ready for a green makeover. The Liberty Tower has been a fixture in downtown Dayton since the 1930’s. Standing tall as a historical landmark its owner Liberty Savings Bank has been slowly making improvements. But this summer the building is taking a big leap by going green. “We found a good partner Energy Optimizers. They helped us look at the math, they helped us understand the opportunity and it just worked,” says CEO of Liberty Savings Bank Ryan Powell. Energy Optimizers based in Tipp City is going to take this 86 year old building into the new century by making adjustments to the H-V-A-C system and putting in brand new LED lights inside and out. “We’ve worked for the past six years mostly with local schools and government facilities. Our tag line is saving you money while saving the environment. Our focus is saving tax payer or building owner dollars,” says Belinda Kenley VP Energy Optimizers USA. The project will cost about nine hundred thousand dollars but it will save about 99 thousand dollars a year in utility costs. It will take about 8 years for the project to pay back. Something you may not be able to see from the outside but once you step inside you’ll be able to see the new lights and feel the difference. It’s a big investment but Powell says it’s well worth it to bring energy and other tenants to the building. “It’s kind of a labor of love so I speak of the math but frankly we just love this building and the improvements we’ve made have just felt right,” say Powell. A right feeling helping the downtown landscape and the environment.
