By Tom Demeropolis – Senior staff reporter, Cincinnati Business Courier Oct 26, 2021, 2:30pm EDT One of Greater Cincinnati’s largest general contractors, and one of the region’s largest minority-owned firms, is expanding its headquarters. Megen Construction Co. is more than tripling the size of its Forest Park headquarters. The general contractor will renovate and expand its existing space at 11130 Ashburn Road to 11,000 square feet. Evans Nwankwo, president and CEO of Megen, said the company has needed to expand for about a decade. The company brought in a temporary trailer to house some employees that was only supposed to be there for a couple of years, but it just recently removed it to make way for the upcoming expansion. “This is something that is a long time coming,” Nwankwo told me.

The expansion and renovation project will add 17 offices, two conference rooms, a fitness room, expanded parking, a 2,600-square-foot workshop/warehouse, and an 1,800-squarefoot reception area with an adjacent kitchen and courtyard, called the Family Room, which will provide a flexible space for meetings and events.

Nwankwo decided to move forward with the headquarters expansion, even as many companies are just now looking at how and when to return to the office, because he feels his employees work best when they work together under one roof. “We are a family. Families stay together, they work together they sweat together, they do things together,” he said. “I yearn for the day to unite everybody so we can work together.” Megen expects its total revenue for 2021 to be about $50 million to $55 million. Initially Nwankwo was concerned about the amount of work the company would have when the pandemic hit, but after about two months, activity quickly turned around and “things haven’t slowed down since.” Megen will handle the construction and renovation of the space. Elevar Design Group is working with Megen, taking the company’s vision for its headquarters and turning it “into what I think is a building that has wonderful and meaningful curb appeal,” Nwankwo said. He said the design of the space is uniquely Megen and will reflect the organization. “It just fits our culture and the values that we hold high,” Nwankwo said. 2/3

He also thanked Hamilton County and the city of Forest Park for their help on the expansion. Nwankwo expects the expansion and renovation to be completed in fall 2022. The company would then be moving into its new space as its celebrates its 30th year in business. Megen has grown to manage projects for clients throughout Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana as well as Texas, Georgia and Washington. Most recently, the firm help construct the National Museum of African-American Music in Nashville. Megen also is one of the largest minority-owned businesses in the region, with about 40 employees and an additional office in Dayton.
