Wanderlust Trend: Adventure Swarovski has identified five key words associated with the modern traveler: solo, raw, powerful, nomadic and natural. They describe the mindset that comes from a new generation’s desire for experience.

SWAROVSKI

A host of travel concepts now explore the rough and ready, associated with nomadic, off-thebeaten-track. Away from the everyday and far from the crowd, life becomes richer and more in tune with nature. Attracted by the freedom of the road trip, the emotional quest for solitude, and the need for individual experience, it is this engagement with a survival ethos that holds such powerful appeal for these “Wild Wanderers.” Colors inspire landscape imagery and reflect nature’s majesty in all its guises, from desert skies to dusty roads. They include muted, earthy shades such as: Crystal Ivory Cream, Topaz and Smoked Topaz; warm sunset hues characterized by Padparadscha, plus Crystal Metallic Sunshine; along with evocative blues like Crystal Summer Blue and the new Majestic Blue. The brightest star of all, Sirius has lent its name to Swarovski’s Xirius chaton. Its revolutionary cut brings this highly resistant crystal product one step closer to the diamond. The groundbreaking innovation was launched in honor of Daniel Swarovski’s birthday, and honors the company founder’s legacy. Unmatched brilliance and the highest level of precision make this crystal a versatile component for myriad applications,

Jewelry takes an experimental approach to materials, with tactile, timeworn surfaces contrasting with the brilliance of precious crystals. Garments are rough and rugged to suit a life on the move: worn jackets and jeans combine with free-flowing floral prairie dresses, while crystalembellished blanket wraps and Spanish fringing highlight the romantic notions of the intrepid solo traveler. A new importance is given to performance and functionality, with accessories such as scuffed leather boots, cross-body bags, plus felt and broad-brimmed straw hats that offer protection from harsh environments, taking centre stage. While leather shoes and bags are ideal for expressing the on-trend Adventure aesthetic, other segments such as interiors also showcase the look brilliantly: natural and raw materials alongside sturdy organic shapes create a rustic atmosphere. Durability and functionality are key.

Swarovski Anniversary Sparkle Atelier Swarovski has chosen to celebrate its 10th anniversary with a very special capsule collection designed by Jason Wu.

11

SWAROVSKI

Swarovski is celebrating their 10 year Anniversary and to add some serious design mojo to the occasion they have selected Jason Wu to create an exclusive Atelier Swarovski line. The collection entitled “Mosaic” consists of 7 items (2 necklaces,2 pairs of earrings, 1 ring, 1 bangle and 1 small sized clutch). The number of items presented seems to be fitting for the occasion since 7 IS a lucky number. All the items are beauuutiful (trust me on this one-the site web page does NOT do it justice) and all items are priced a “tad” higher than their usual line (Tad translation-prices are MUCH higher than the usual Swarovski offerings). Price points start at $249.99 for the ring and top out at (wait for it) $2, 990.00 for the necklace featured above. Bear in mind this collection is designed by THE Jason Wu! (who burst onto the fashion spotlight when he designed the Inauguration Gowns (yes that is plural) for Michelle Obama and continues to dazzle the fashion world with his creations today. In the Mosaic Collection we find the style of the well-known designer, a skilful balance between classic elements adapted to the contemporary, designed for an absolutely strong, sophisticated and sensual woman. A little like model Karlie Kloss (his muse, as well as a longtime friend) who has become the face of the Atelier Swarovski advertising campaign by Jason Wu . The collection includes necklaces, bracelets and earrings, as well as a shoulder bag.

To commemorate the tenth anniversary of Atelier Swarovski’s founding, special guest supermodel Karlie Kloss will interpret the Atelier Swarovski by JasonWu series to interpret the extraordinary charm of crystal. Atelier Swarovski teamed up with long-time designer Jason Wu to create the 2017 new fall/ winter collection Mosaic. The designer drew inspiration from the organic crystal gem shape to create 15 single product series consisting of exquisite necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings. They were made of red. Crafted from asymmetrical cut crystals in green, pink and silver. Crystal handbags are the perfect complement to this series.

Jason Wu commented: “I am very excited to be able to cooperate with Atelier Swarovski to launch the second series, especially at the time when both of our brands are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the establishment of their respective brands. Swarovski’s style is diverse and beautiful. The crystal cutting and color selection means that I can create a series of works that embody both elegant charm and modern emotions.”

SWAROVSKI

Just over ten years Jason Wu launched his eponymous brand. He went on to dress the former first lady of America Michelle Obama, create coveted collections and collaborate on achingly cool designs, including his latest works with Swarovski. Here the designer depicts his vision over the past decade... At the same time, Atelier Swarovski was honoured to invite supermodel Karlie Kloss to wear the Jason Wu series to witness the first decade. Jason Wu mentioned, “This series perfectly fits the image of a woman in my heart—independent, refined and rich in emotions. Karlie Kloss is my longtime friend and source of inspiration. This collaboration with her also brings people like this. feel. Atelier Swarovski is known for his cross-border collaboration with numerous designers. Once again, he worked with designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Viktor & Rolf, Christopher Kane, and Marty Katrantzou. The Atelier Swarovski by Jason Wu collection will be launched simultaneously with other collections at Swarovski’s global select stores, independent retailers and online stores starting in September. Amidst The St. Regis New York’s regal backdrop of vintage chandeliers and adorned nooks, Jason Wu celebrated his 10th year as a designer and debuted a breathtaking Autumn/ Winter collection with complete a new twist. The designer’s signature clean silhouettes in ultra-feminine prints and sheers now revealed spectacular Swarovski crystal accents. Swarovski accents were utilized throughout the collection in understated ways, with two floral dresses alone including shimmery detailing from head to toe. Another look, in luscious velvet, later turned heads with the Swarovski crystal pearls in perfect accentuation. Rows of New York Fashion Week’s elite witnessed nearly 68,000 Swarovski crystals on Wu’s elegant pieces worn by modelsto-know such as rising stars Mica Argañaraz and Roos Abels.

In honor of an upcoming collaboration, Wu also previewed accessories from his soon-to-bereleased Atelier Swarovski by Jason Wu ‘Mosaic’ Collection. Through his contemporary lens, he’s created striking neckpieces, bracelets, rings and earrings for the modern, youthful woman he dresses. Optimistic hues such as red, green, peach and silver unite brilliantly in asymmetrical crystal cuts.

Trend: Spell Bound As the sun rises above the moon, a sliver of color—neither gold nor silver, but with an ethereal metallic, reflective splendor—encloses Earth. It mirrors the light and darkness in life, and it takes on a spiritual significance that is reflected in design. Unable to see a brighter future, society is turning away from organized belief systems toward rituals and shamanism. As we look to spells and stars for guidance, we cling to the notion that the world of magic exists. The Spell Bound line of Swarovski crystals was created so everyone can have a little magic around them, be it in their jewelry, on their clothing or in their interiors. Disturbing, dark and dangerous, yet with an ethereal, shimmering allure, the underworld is exposed in designs that look as though they have emerged at midnight. New does not always mean better—innovation is explored in forgotten ideas, blending and merging the past and present to transcend the future.

16

SWAROVSKI Crystallized surface fabrics add opulence and dimension to lightweight textiles, while drama is added through fairytale-inspired jewelry pieces. Andy Farrow’s design displays these qualities:“My primary focus was the manipulation of brass (brutalist production), which was heated to a high temperature and placed randomly over shapes in order to create texture and movement. The intrinsic beauty of the piece is that it will change color as it oxidizes, which is perfectly in tune with the trend theme.” Jewelry is designed to balance the body using the healing properties of crystals and the mysticism of metals. Symbols with a dark, dramatic baroque opulence come out from the shadows. Metallic finishes have a mysterious iridescence, with blends of green, blue,

silver and violet creating magical yet esoteric pieces. The celestial shimmer of Crystal Galuchat’s scaly surface is unlike anything else. A nostalgic vision of the past sees baroque redefined in forward-moving fashion: The Baroque Bead pays homage to the grandeur and beauty of history with its sublime crystal detailing, while the Baroque Mirror Fancy Stone provides a new format for historical designs.

INFLUENCES The use of mystical-inspired symbols highlights the continued rise of the importance of storytelling. An ethereal, estranged mood that accepts and embraces the darkness, holding it up to the light for examination and looking to the past as a way forward. Dark and dangerous, yet with a magical shining allure, the underworld is exposed. A creeping interest in black magic, voodoo rituals, witchcraft, shamanic medicine and astrology is on the rise. New does not always mean better. It is time to explore innovation in forgotten ideas – blending and merging the past and present to transcend the future.

Trend: Gang Star Swarovski’s Gang Star collection for Spring/Summer 2018 was created in response to the tough street look that is sweeping the design world. Inspired by the hip-hop, sporty, gangsta-rap culture our Gang Star range of crystal jewelry includes bold statement pieces such as oversized gangsta-style rings, earrings and charms dangling from chains. The powerful designs look like they come directly from the 80s and 90s. There is a collective desire to stand out and actively participate. The body has become a billboard, on which are scrawled thoughts and standpoints in rebellious graffitistyle typography on clothing and jewelry, conveying a “don’t mess with me” attitude. Holding back is no longer an option—it is time to be heard. The Skull Flat Back is the perfect match for edgier styles, satisfying the need for “bling” in street-inspired designs. The new Crystal Iridescent Blue Pearls reflect the emerging gender-neutral, active-streetwear style fusion. Launched in two tones, they symbolize the need to reconvene, reconnect and ultimately belong—even in the midst of stark urban landscapes.

20

SWAROVSKI

Commenting on the aesthetic that underpins the pieces he created to illustrate the Gang Star theme, British designer Andy Farrow commented: “In an effort to portray urbanism within a jewelry piece, the crystal was applied slightly more sparingly to create a “gangsta” street-chic attitude. The eight pieces are designed to work together and show connection—a theme consistently highlighted within the trend direction. The Shiny LacquerPRO was purposely inverted on two pieces to add a fresh, modern twist. The large “A” brings all the pieces together by dropping in colors from the 1980s referenced by this theme.”

INFLUENCES The need to reconvene, reconnect and ultimately belong, even in the midst of stark urban landscapes, defines the direction. Rebel culture seeps into the mainstream, denoting a more carefree, street attitude. Wearing the new “sportsstreet” style is not promoting or showing allegiance to a gang mentality, but is instead somewhat of a political choice to minimize the fear of the “Gangsta” uniform. A tough stance is echoed in designs inspired directly by 80s and 90s with the continued rise of the all-pervasive sportswear influence, which subliminally translates as belonging to a team. A gritty style direction where gold chains and medallions are every day, and symbols and graphics create slogans for separate tribes, highlighting individual and creative expression.

The powerful designs look like they come directly from the 80s and 90s. New Crystal Pearl Colours Crystal Iridescent Dark Blue Pearl has been created by smoothly blending sapphire blue at the center with purple on the outside; Crystal Iridescent Light Blue Pearl merges pale blue at the center with light violet on the outside. These classic, timeless tones are homogeneous across the assortment. The pristine pearl coating on their smooth surfaces produces a fascinating silky matt effect—both shiny and muted at the same time. Perfectly suited to modern, romantic looks, and appropriate for any occasion or season, each looks superb as a standalone piece, yet works equally well in combination with each other. Further blends that work together harmoniously are Crystal Iridescent Light Blue paired with Crystal Shiny LacquerPRO effect in Crystal Summer Blue, and Iridescent Dark Blue with Shiny LacquerPRO effect in Crystal Royal Blue.

Trend: No Normal Launch Spring/Summer 2018 The new value revolution has begun: “The message is simple,” says Sébastien Meyer, co- Artistic Director at Courrèges. “Erase the superfluous, go back to essentials, the thing that makes fashion what it is—the product.” With labels being eradicated, hierarchies broken down and conventions challenged, the constants of tradition are being overturned and our values redefined as we question the usual and the common. “Anti-fashion” is the prevailing mood. It is out of this mood that the No Normal Swarovski crystal collection was born. The concept of fashion is stripped back to the essentials, with a focus on seasonless, genderless clothes, shapes and styles blurring in a convergence of fashion elements with no boundaries, no definitions, no limits and certainly ‘No Normal’. A yearning to simplify how we live has resulted in a rationalized, “key piece” culture.

24

SWAROVSKI “The thought process behind it was to create an oversized/exaggerated shape for the upper body, concentrating on negative space, fluidity of line, and depth, whilst also dropping in movement with the actual shape and the application of crystal.” Metals are manipulated into complex meandering forms that appear to be unique and bespoke, and pieces are designed to look like extensions of the wearer’s body. Sculptural elements juxtaposed with the delicate beauty of radiant crystals create a dramatic fusion of edgy and graceful. The Chris Bangle Designer Edition, featuring the new Tilted Chaton, Tilted Spike and Tilted Dice Fancy Stones, can be used as a pendant centerpiece for rings or earrings, or as part of an elaborate futuristic textile design. The Square Family’s Pyramid, Square and Base Flat Back reflect the new design principles of flexibility and modularity, offering endless ways to create mold-breaking surface effects.

Concerns regarding sustainability motivate us to consume less in a more considered way, while climate change breaks up our seasonal cycles and points towards a trans-seasonal reality. We are open to change, as past categories now become too narrow to accommodate tomorrow’s society. There is a desire for greater kindness in our personal dealings and simplicity in our daily lives; this means allowing freedoms and embracing our differences—whether gender, religion or race—in the search for a new, more inclusive perspective. Designs deliberately break convention and celebrate human imperfection. Describing the piece he designed in order to illustrate the theme, Andy Farrow said:

Crystal Rainbow Dark Effect from Swarovski

Pantone Color – The Future is Green

A quality milestone far removed from cheap mass production that would help complete any crystal jewelry collection, its edgy glamour mirrors the younger, more irreverent attitude that defines the new-generation consumer. A blurred surface, together with color gradients that are unique to every single pearl, reference the new “non-gender thought process. In an era of massive change regarding how consumers identify themselves, old rules are being thrown out, stereotypes are dead, gender roles are no longer defined, and design speaks only of beauty.

Signifying nature, life, revitalization and energy; green promotes harmony, fertility, safety and prosperity. It seems fitting then that green, and all its positive associations, is the color of choice, not only for Pantone in 2017, but also for Swarovski to usher in a radiant new year. Reassuring us with its strong connection to Mother Earth, grounding us with its calming presence and paving the way forward with its promise of rebirth and regeneration, green is the color of a brighter more prosperous future and the Swarovski crystal color of the year.

New Color Graphite from Swarovski

Pantone Color - Purple Reign

In today’s ever-changing high-tech world with its overload of visual stimulation, there is a rapidly growing desire among more and more people for calm and tranquillity. “Down-to-earth” is taking on a whole meaning in many contexts. As a result, a classic look with a serene and mysterious aura is increasingly gaining in demand among both genders, with tastes in fashion jewelry most certainly in line with this movement. With this in mind, Swarovski created a new color for a wide range of crystal products, “Graphite.”

The PANTONE® Color of the Year 2018 is… 18-3838 Ultra Violet, (a deep purple hue). The announcement of this particular color sent up sounds of jubilation in the hallowed halls of Swarovski Professional, where we create our brilliant crystal color range. Not least because the color is associated with creativity, mindfulness and inner peace: which are all top of our Christmas wish list - but, perhaps more importantly because purple “…has that spiritual or mystical quality attached - a little bit of magic that’s inferred in the color.»
