Interactive Learning for Early Years

Interactive Learning

Technology can play a role in supporting early communication, language and literacy. Offering new learning opportunities through ebooks, apps, and even video calling, when used as a learning and play tool alongside other early learning methods. A PlayPanel® can help facilitate this, providing enrichment and a different medium of learning.

Children gather quickly and curiously around the PlayPanel® and are immersed by the will to explore. Several children can simultaneously point, draw, click and search - promoting collective learning.

Children’s creativity is challenged and stimulated in educational programs and games making learning lively and enjoyable for all.

The PlayPanel® is designed to handle children’s playful handling and therefore sits well in indoor environments where children gather, such as preschools, schools museums, libraries, restaurants, training rooms, banks, shops, shopping centres, airports and train stations.

The PlayPanel’s design allows students to work independently or as a group to engage and learn through cognitive use. This helps support the seven areas of learning and development of your pupils.

PlayPanel® will arrive with the market-leading Yellow Door apps pre-installed and ready to enhance pupils learning.

The four categories of apps included are:

• Traditional Tales Series

• Early Literacy & Listening

Yellow Door Learning Suite

The Yellow Door learning suite apps have been developed and produced alongside the curriculum to provide Early Years pupils a varied range of interactive and listening games, built for teacher-led and collaborative group based learning.

These apps will help children engage in independent and collaborative play and support the early learning goals. Their unique approach blends physical and digital learning experiences, where classroom and outdoor activities are further developed by interactive experiences.

Players are guided by hints and feedback while challenges and rewards motivate ongoing learning. Young children are growing up in a technologically rich world and they need to be confident users of digital resources from the start.

The Yellow Door team have a thorough understanding of child development (gained through many years’ experience as qualified teachers) and keep up-to-date with the latest research. This ensures that the suite is appropriate and practical for everyday use to aid and facilitate development.

Harnessing the Power of Educational Technology in Early Years

Edtech in the EYFS is a bit different from how we use it in Key Stages 1 and 2. While older children often use tech for more structured activities, in the early years, it's all about enhancing and enriching play-based learning and adult-led activities. The aim is to make sure technology supports, rather than replaces, the hands-on exploration that's so crucial for young children.

Research shows that when used well, tech in early years can encourage collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. Tech used effectively, has the power to turn everyday moments into exciting, shared learning experiences. Studies highlight that thoughtfully integrated edtech can really engage children and deepen their learning (Plowman, McPake, & Stephen, 2010).

With over 20 years of experience in education (with 12 of these in the Early Years setting), Christine has worn many hats - from class teacher to middle leader, and even Head of Academy of a large primary school. Along the way seeing how powerful technology can be in the classroom when used right.

Christine has seen first hand the transformational impact technology can have in an Early Years setting.

“For me, it’s amazing how tech can become a natural and playful part of their learning, making it less about formal teaching and 'screen time' and more about encouraging discovery and curiosity.”

Importantly, pupils were able to move around the child-height table and each touch the screen at the same time meaning they were each interacting with both sound and image simultaneously.

This is particularly important for children at this age, where it is vital that stimuli encourages purposeful social and emotional interactivity, particularly around speech and language development which has become a contemporary national issue.
