Editorial ¿Por qué hablo de esto en mi editorial de este mes? Bien, a pesar de conocer los sacrificios que mis antepasados realizaron para asegurar el derecho democrático para que cada persona represente un voto, y de que ambos eventos electorales podrían tener serias consecuencias para mí, mi comunidad y el país donde vivo, trabajo y he formado mi familia ¡no tengo derecho a votar en ninguno de ellos!

Aunque muchos expatriados tienen derecho a votar en el Referéndum UE, yo he caído en la regla de los 15 años, ya que he vivido fuera de Reino Unido durante más tiempo, y a pesar de las promesas de cambiar la ley, no llegará a tiempo para este referéndum tan de vital importancia. (Consulta la página tres para obtener información sobre el voto por correo para expatriados).

En cuanto a las elecciones españolas, a pesar de ser un residente registrado, pagando mis impuestos, y contribuyendo a la comunidad de muchas formas, según las regulaciones electorales españolas, no puedo votar. Aún así puedo votar en las elecciones europeas y locales, lo cual es bastante irónico, ya que, si Reino Unido vota por Brexit, nosotros, expatriados, seremos los únicos británicos que podamos decir algo en el Parlamento Europeo.

Bueno, ya me he quejado un poco. Como nota más alegre, la primavera ha llegado, y con ella, la primera fiesta del año, ya que Estepona celebra la fiesta de su Santo Patrón, San Isidro, en la próxima semana. Los concejales locales también están ocupados preparando las playas y las zonas públicas para lo que promete ser una de las temporadas turísticas de más éxito. ¡Qué ganas de que llegue!

The coming weeks will see the media’s gaze focussed on not one, but two momentous votes. The first is the EU Referendum in the UK on June 23 which will see the British public asked to vote on whether Britain stays in the European Union or begins the process of leaving.

The second just a few days later on June 26 will be a rerun of the Spanish General Election, called by the monarch, King Felipe VI, after extensive negotiations of every possible coalition permutation failed to result in the formation of a government.

Okay, so why am I commenting about this in my editorial this month?

Well, despite being keenly aware of the sacrifices of my forbears in securing the democratic right of one person, one vote, and that both of the these votes could have serious consequences for myself, my community, and the country in which I have chosen to live, work, and raise my family, I am denied the right to vote in either of them!

Although many expats are eligible to vote in the EU Referendum I fall foul of the 15 year rule, having lived outside of the UK for longer than that, and despite a promise of a change in the law, it won’t be in time for this once in a generation referendum. (See page 3 for details of postal voting for expats).

As far as the Spanish General Election goes, despite being a registered resident, paying my taxes, and contributing to the community in many ways, I am barred by Spanish electoral regulations from voting, although I can vote in local and European elections, ironic really as if the UK votes for Brexit, us expats will be the only Brits that can have a say in the European Parliament.

Well that’s one of my rare whinges out of the way. On a brighter note Spring is well and truly here, and with the first Fiesta of the year, as Estepona celebrates one of its Patron Saint’s San Isidro in the coming week. Local councils are also busy preparing the beaches and public areas for what promises to be one of the busiest tourist seasons yet. Can’t wait!

Ambassador Simon Manley urges Brits to have their say in EU referendum Manilva’s Councillor for Foreign Residents and Commerce, Dean Shelton, was invited to a meeting with the British Ambassador to Spain, Simon Manley, as part of a group of key members within the British community on the Costa del Sol including representatives from the press and local authority foreigners departments.

The meeting in Malaga on Friday 29 April was part of the Foreign Office’s support of the Electoral Commission’s campaign to encourage Brits overseas to register to vote in the forthcoming EU Referendum to be held on 23 June, 2016.

Ambassador Manley described the strong interest among British expats in voting in the referendum as ‘very encouraging’.

Mr Manley was keen to point out that “Whether your view is that the UK should remain in or leave the EU, I urge all eligible expats to register to vote in this historic referendum.

You may have spent many years working or living in the UK and perhaps still have strong ties: family, property, or a pension. Whatever your circumstances, the chances are the referendum outcome will affect you or your family.

“So make sure you can have your say. It is for the British people to decide whether we’re stronger, safer and better off as part of the European Union, or on our own.”

Clicks on the www.gov.uk/register-to- vote from computer users with Spanish IP addresses have averaged more than 1000 daily since the overseas voter registration campaign began on 4 February. Since the beginning of the year, a total of over 80,000 people in Spain have visited www.gov.uk/ register-to- vote.

More than a quarter of a million Brits live in

IN BRIEF:

Spain and the large majority are thought to be eligible to vote. You must have been on the UK electoral roll within the last 15 years, or if you were under 18 when you left then at least one of your parents must have been on the electoral list.

Although the website states that the deadline to register for a postal vote is 7 June, in reality for overseas voters the deadline is 16 May, in order for ballot papers to be sent out from 23 May in time for them to arrive and for you to send them back. Simply visit www.gov.uk/ register-to-vote with your passport, National Insurance number and last UK postcode.

The process takes just 5 minutes. If you do miss the deadline, you can still apply for a proxy vote.

Even if you registered as an overseas voter for the General Election last year, you do

need to do it again. That’s because – just as in the UK – you must register every year in order to vote in UK elections and referendums.

El tribunal sentencia a la FIFA a que conceda la membresía a Gibraltar

Court orders FIFA to grant Gibraltar membership

FIFA ha sido sentenciada por el tribunal deportivo más alto a aceptar a Gibraltar como miembro, abriendo el camino al equipo nacional para jugar en el programa de clasificación del Mundial 2018. El Tribunal de Arbitraje Deportivo dijo el lunes que confirmó la apelación de la federación de fútbol de Gibraltar contra la FIFA por bloquear su entrada en el 2014, pero el panel de jueces no pudo otorgar directamente la membresía.

Es una segunda victoria para Gibraltar en el CAS, tras el dictamen anterior contra la UEFA que significaba que podía unirse a la organización futbolística europea en 2013.

“El panel ha dictaminado por unanimidad que el Congreso de la FIFA tome todas las medidas necesarias para admitir a Gibraltar como miembro de pleno derecho de la FIFA tan pronto como sea posible, dentro de los límites de los Estatutos de la FIFA”, dijo el tribunal en una declaración.

El último veredicto significa que Gibraltar podría entrar en el grupo de clasificación para el Mundial del 2018 que comienza en septiembre.

“The panel has unanimously ordered that the FIFA Congress take all necessary measures to admit Gibraltar as a full member of FIFA as soon as possible, within the limits of the FIFA Statutes,” the court said in a statement.

It is a second victory for Gibraltar at CAS, after a previous ruling against UEFA meant it could join the European soccer body in 2013.

The latest verdict ruling means Gibraltar could now be fasttracked into a 2018 World Cup qualifying group which kicks off in September.

The CAS judges insisted that the FIFA ruling council should act quickly. The council, chaired by new FIFA President Gianni Infantino, meets next Monday in Mexico City, four days before the congress has its annual business meeting.

Monarch Airlines inaugura su ruta Londres Gatwick–Gibraltar Monarch Airlines inauguró el pasado domingo su nuevo servicio entre el aeropuerto de Londres Gatwick y Gibraltar.

Con vuelos cuatro veces por semana los lunes, jueves, viernes y domingos, este nuevo servicio se convierte en el cuarto destino que ofrece la aerolínea en el Reino Unido, junto con Londres Luton, Mánchester y Birmingham. La ruta a Gatwick se operará con la flota de Airbus A320 de la aerolínea, que cuentan con 174 asientos.

La inauguración del servicio se celebró con un arco de agua gracias a la participación del Servicio de Salvamento y Bomberos del Aeropuerto de Gibraltar (Gibraltar Airport Fire and Rescue Service).

A pesar de ser la primera vez que se hace en el aeropuerto de Gibraltar, ésta es la forma tradicional de dar la bienvenida a los vuelos inaugurales en todo el mundo. El ministro Steven Linares también estuvo presente en el aeropuerto para recibir a los pasajeros, junto con Terence López, Director de la Terminal Aérea, y Nicky Guerrero,

El nuevo servicio se ofrecerá a lo largo de todo el año, con cuatro vuelos semanales, y ya están disponibles los billetes para la temporada de invierno.

Monarch Airlines Launches New London Gatwick – Gibraltar Route Monarch Airlines last Sunday launched its new service from London Gatwick to Gibraltar.

Operating four times per week on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, this new service becomes the fourth UK destination served by the airline, joining London Luton, Manchester and Birmingham. The Gatwick service will be operated by the airline’s 174 seat Airbus A320 fleet.

The service was welcomed by a water cannon salute, provided by the Airport Fire and Rescue Service, a first for the airport, but a traditional practice worldwide that welcomes inaugural flights.

Minister Steven Linares MP was also at the airport to welcome arriving passengers, together with Terence Lopez, Air Terminal Director and Nicky Guerrero, Chief Executive of the Gibraltar Tourist Board.

The new service will operate as year round, with four services

per week already on sale for this coming Winter season.

Commenting on the launch of the service, Minister for Tourism, the Hon Samantha Sacramento said “London Gatwick is Gibraltar’s busiest destination and we are very pleased to welcome Monarch Airlines on this route, offering a greater choice of weekly departures and allowing growth on this existing destination to further open Gibraltar to increased tourism and business opportunities. Monarch’s confidence and partnership in Gibraltar is shown by this new service becoming the fourth UK destination on offer.

This new service is part of a 40% increase in seats on offer for this summer season, brought about by new route launches and an increase in seat and frequency offerings on existing services, highlighting the Gibraltar Tourist Board’s efforts in increasing air connectivity.”

Tras una gala de casi cuatro horas de duración celebrada en el Pabellón del Tricentenario, el jurado otorgó el primer premio, valorado en 4.000 libras y trofeo, a 28 Hazel Road. Interpretada por el británico de Jersey Brandon Cooke, es una canción de pop ligero compuesta por el propio Cooke y Danusia Gorbun y que cuenta la historia del padre del intérprete, quien emigró de Dublín a Jersey.

El segundo premio, de 2.000 libras, fue para Good vibes, canción que interpretó la tinerfeña Sira Mayo, también compositora del tema junto a Gilberto Martín.

El proyecto de la Tirolina de Casares es viable para la Consejería de Cultura El Ayuntamiento de Casares ha recibido esta semana el informe en el que la Consejería de Cultura ve viable la instalación de una tirolina en Casares, un proyecto solicitado por el Ayuntamiento y cuya ejecución se realizaría con una subvención de Turismo.

Tras el pleno celebrado esta mañana la concejala de Turismo, Rocío Ruiz, ha informado a los grupos de la oposición de la noticia, y ha explicado que la intención del equipo de gobierno es someter el proyecto a información pública para que sean los vecinos los que decidan mediante votación si se sigue adelante con el mismo.

sejería de Cultura ve aceptable la segunda ubicación propuesta desde el Ayuntamiento, cuyas casetas de salida y llegada se situarán en el Paseo Panorámico El Chaparral y en zona de "Las

Peñuelas", al final de la calle Molinos.

Y especifica que al tratarse de un mecanismo fácilmente desmontable, autorizará su instalación por un periodo de 3 años prorrogable.

La puesta en marcha de esta instalación turística supondría la construcción de dos plataformas, de salida y llegada, acondicionamiento de las zonas de acceso, y la instalación de 3 cables de acero, dos para la tirolina y un tercero que llevará las balizas que aumenten su visibilidad para evitar accidentes de aves

Casares The Casares Zipline Project gets the green light The Casares town hall has received the report from the Ministry of Culture giving the go ahead for the installation of a zip wire in Casares, a project the town hall has been requesting and which will be carried out with a grant from Tourism.

After the plenary session held earlier in the week, Councillor for Tourism, Rocio Ruiz, has informed the opposition groups of the news, and explained that the intention of the government team is to submit the project to the public who will decide by vote whether or not it goes ahead.

The report issued by the Ministry of Culture deems the second location selected by the town hall

as acceptable, with arrival and departure stations located on the El Chaparral panoramic path area and "Las Peñuelas" at the end of Calle Molinos.

It specifies that being a readily removable mechanism, it’s installation is authorized for a renewable period of 3 years.

The development of this tourist attraction will involve the construction of two platforms, one for departure and another for arrival, conditioning the access areas, and the installation of 3 steel cables, two for the zip line and a third that will incorporate beacons to increase their visibility to avoid bird collisions.

Tras esta procesión, es tradicional que los peregrinos acampen en

los alrededores de la capilla, y se diviertan hasta el sábado por la tarde, cuando la imagen de la Virgen vuelve a Casares.

Todo el mundo está bienvenido a unirse, a disfrutar del campo y a darse un baño en el Río Genal.

Casares celebrates the Virgen del Rosario del Campo, this month On the weekend of 21 and 22 May Casares celebrates its patron saint the Virgen del Rosario del Campo with a pilgrimage or romeria, involving the women of the town preceded by riders on horseback, from the church of San Sebastian in Casares town to the small chapel or ermita situated between the rivers Genal and Guadiaro, a distance of 11 kms.

Following this procession, it is traditional for the pilgrims to camp out in the chapel’s surroundings and party through until Sunday afternoon when the effigy of the Virgen is returned to Casares.

Everyone is welcome to join in and enjoy the countryside and bathe in the Rio Genal.

El concejal de Infraestructuras acuerda con telefónica medidas para mejorar las líneas de Casares

El Ayuntamiento ayudará a los extranjeros a tramitar su documentación

El concejal de Infraestructura, Guzman Ahumada se ha reunido la pasada semana con el responsable de mantenimiento de infraestructuras en la zona de Telefónica. Un encuentro celebrado en muy clima afable y en el que los miembros del Ayuntamiento han expuesto las necesidades de la localidad en materia de infraestructuras de telefonía.

La intención del Ayuntamiento, ha explicado Guzmán Ahumada, es que se mejore el cableado, que en muchas zonas presenta un aspecto lamentable, lo que influeye en que la señal no llegue a las viviendas en estado óptimo.

Para ello han acordado que desde la Concejalía de Infraestructura se va a empezar a enviar esta semana la relación de puntos que se encuentran en mal estado. Y en caso de que la Telefónica no lo arregle en el tiempo requerido,

La concejala de Residentes Extranjeros, Antonia Pineda, se reúne esta mañana con el inspector jefe de la Policía Nacional, para concertar el apoyo que se puede prestar desde el Consistorios a los extranjeros que necesiten tramitar su Número de Identidad

de Extranjero (NIE).

La intención de la concejala es que desde las oficinas municipales se ayude a los residentes extranjeros del municipio a preparar toda la documentación necesaria para agilizar la obtención del documento de identidad.

Casares seeks to improve its phone line network The Casares councillor for infrastructure, Guzman Ahumada, recently met with technicians from Telefonica to discuss solutions to the problem with the telephone cable network in Casares Town which in many areas is both

unsightly and inefficient, with some homes having a poor service whilst some others have no access to a fixed line at all.

The meeting was very productive with Telefonica agreeing to address the issue, whilst the Town Hall will

install conduits to enable cables to be moved underground.

The Town Hall have indicated though that if works are not carried out soon, they will carry them out themselves, passing the bill to Telefonica.

The councillor for Foreign Residents, Antonia Pineda, recently met with the Estepona National Police’s Chief Inspector to organise the provision of support from the town hall for NIE and Residency applications.

The aim is for foreign residents to be able to prepare all the documentation through the town hall ensuring all is correct before submission to the Police for processing.

Empiezan los trabajos para la puesta en marcha Work begins on the Casares Costa allotments de los huertos ecológicos de Casares Costa Las tareas, que tienen una duración de 2 ó 3 semanas, consisten en el cercado perimetral del terreno y la división de parcelas.

Los vecinos de Casares Costa contarán con unos huertos ecológicos en Marina de Casares.

Esta mañana han comenzado los trabajos para adecentar la parcela, comenzando por el vallado completo del terreno, que tendrá una altura de más de 2 metros.

Tras el vallado, se procederá a la división del terreno en 20 parcelas de 100 metros cuadrados cada una. Una de ellas se reservará para darle uso desde el propio Ayuntamiento, para albergar jornadas divulgativas, actividades formativas y lúdicas para niños y adultos.

Las otras 19 parcelas serán para los vecinos de Casares Costa. Se adjudicarán por un espacio temporal a aquellos sectores de la población que más apoyo necesitan, como son las familias en riesgo de exclusión, desempleados y jubilados, para lograr cubrir parte de sus

necesidades alimenticias y de ocio.

Los trabajos tendrán una duración aproximada de 3 semanas y en breve se informará sobre las bases que contemplan los requisitos para acceder a uno de los huertos, así como los plazos para solicitarlos.

Work has begun to create allotments for residents on the coast. It will take 2 or 3 weeks and consist of fencing off the land and dividing it into plots.

The first step was to clear the plot and erect a 2 metre fence all around it.

Afterwards the land will be divided into 20 plots of 100 square meters each. One of them is reserved for the use of the town hall itself, to carry out training and recreational activities for children and adults.

The other 19 plots are for residents of Casares Costa. They are awarded for a time to those sectors of the population that are most in need of the space, such as families at risk of exclusion, unemployed and retired individuals, helping to cover part of their food and leisure needs.

Arranca la IV edición del Espileta Sound El festival de maquetas tendrá lugar en el pueblo de Casares (Málaga) durante el último fin de semana de Julio, en los días 29 y 30

Casares presents the fourth edition of the Espileta Sound Festival The demo festival takes place during the final weekend of July To celebrate Espileta Sound’s fourth edition the organisers have invited some of the best bands from the previous three contests to take part.

In the past the contest has drawn hundreds of entries from across Spain, who submit a demo tape to the judging panel who then choose ten bands to compete in the finals which take place in Casares Town.

This year the panel of judges will select the finalists in a ‘best-ofthe-best’ fashion with some great bands such as Elsa Bhör, Malaka

Youth, Copa Turbo, Triana Paraiso Fiscal, La DstyleriA, El bastón de la vieja, Papawanda and Enseco already confirmed for the finals which will be held on July 29 and 30.

Espileta is not just a music contest though, there are parallel activities over the weekend including a Graffiti Competition in the streets of Casares.

Espileta Sound is organised by the Espileta Bum cultural association, in collaboration with Casares Town Hall.

Este festival sigue teniendo como principal objetivo promover la cultura musical y el arte, además de servir como base para que las bandas participantes puedan darse a conocer y difundir sus trabajos.

Nuevo Complejo Deportivo de La Huertezuela Tras varias reuniones con el Consejo Local de Deportes, el Ayuntamiento de Casares prepara la ampliación de la zona deportiva de la Huertezuela. Un proyecto que incluye un nueva zona de vestuarios, dos pistas de pádel, y otra para baloncesto y tenis, dejando la existente para fútbol y balonmano, circuito de atletismo, rocódromo y pista de skate.

El proyecto explica el concejal de Deportes, Nicolás Morales, está previsto que se realice en varias fases durante los próximo 3 años.

La primera fase, que comienza este año, incluye la redacción del proyecto, la construcción de dos pistas de pádel, el acondicionamiento del entorno y las mejoras en la piscina municipal. De hecho, el Ayuntamiento ha comenzado con medios propios los trabajos de construcción de nuevas gradas, vallado perimetral y zona de duchas en la piscina.

The project will include a new locker room area, two paddle courts, and one for basketball and tennis, leaving the existing court for football and handball, the athletics track, a climbing wall and skate park.

Where There’s A Will Many people avoid drawing up wills because it requires them to contemplate their own mortality. If you are a foreigner with property and/or other assets in Spain, you should make a Spanish will.

You should also have a will for each jurisdiction within which you hold assets. For example, if you have a bank account in Gibraltar, Isle of Man, Jersey etc, you also need a will in that country.

Each of these wills needs to clearly state that they are for the disposal of assets in that country only and that you want your will to be governed by UK/ other EU country law. Only if you state this, will that disposal of assets be governed by your own national law and not that of Spain.

It is now possible to have your Spanish will made out in two columns. One in Spanish and the other in English. This is checked by a Notary Public and signed by you, the Notary and your interpreter, if your Spanish is insufficient for you to read the Spanish side of the document yourself. The Testamento Abierto (Open Will) is kept by the Notary, an authorized

copy will be given to you and the Notary will send a notification to the Registro Central de Ultima Voluntad in Madrid.

It is important to discuss with your legal or financial adviser in Spain, details of the heirs named on your Spanish will. The more direct descendants that are named in your Spanish will as heirs, the less the Inheritance Tax you should have to pay.

Unlike the UK and many other countries, in Spain it is the person receiving the inheritance that is taxable, NOT the deceased person’s estate.

There are many differences between the UK law and Spanish law on Inheritance and Gift tax and although the UK and Spain have many reciprocal arrangements for double taxation, there is no such arrangement for Inheritance Tax. To die intestate (without a will) in Spain, makes the process of sorting out the deceased’s estate much more time consuming and costly.

Comienzan las obras de la piscina cubierta en Sabinillas La Junta de Gobierno local sacó adelante la propuesta en relación al expediente del Proyecto Básico y de Ejecución de Piscina y Zona Spa en el complejo deportivo de Sabinillas.

Según explicaba el concejal de Infraestructura y Obras, Antonio Barragán: "las deficiencias detectadas por el Distrito Sanitario de la Costa del Sol nos han impedido solucionar hasta ahora un problema heredado y que ya si podemos presentar como una realidad".

La mercantil Construcciones Mena & Barranco, S.L., será la adjudicataria del contrato y quien ha redactado el proyecto de ejecución, proyecto de actividad, redacción del estudio de seguridad y salud, así como ejecución de las obras de terminación de piscina cubierta y zona interior en la ciudad deportiva de Sabinillas.

El lunes se firmará la primera acta de replanteo para iniciar las obras, que tienen un proyecto de licitación de 931.616 euros.

El plazo de ejecución será de tres meses, por lo que si todo transcurre con normalidad podrá estar abierta al público transcurrido ese tiempo.

Para el alcalde de Manilva,

Diego José Jiménez, este es un proyecto importante para completar los servicios del complejo deportivo de Sabinillas y sobre todo para resolver una parte del proyecto con muchas dificultades que se han tenido que solucionar en estos primeros meses de mandado del Equipo de Gobierno.

The local government has brought forward the proposal for the execution of the pool and spa area at the Sabinillas sports complex.

For the mayor of Manilva, Diego José Jiménez, this is an important project to complete the services provided by the Sabinillas sports complex and above all will solve part of the many difficulties which the government body has faced in regards to this initiative in their first few months in power.

Fiestas organiza un viaje a Algeciras para ver a Malú La delegación de Fiestas del Ayuntamiento de Manilva, dirigida por la concejala Alba Jiménez, está preparando para el próximo 29 de julio un viaje a la vecina localidad de Algeciras para asistir al concierto que ofrecerá la cantante Malú dentro de su gira veraniega “Tour Caos 2016”.

El concierto tendrá lugar en la Plaza de Toros “Las Palomas” de esta localidad gaditana a partir de las diez de la noche. La citada delegación fletará un autobús que saldrá desde Manilva a las siete de la tarde.

Trip to see Malu in concert Manilva’s Fiestas Department is organising a trip to Algeciras on 29 July to see Malu, who is performing there as part of her 2016 “Chaos Tour”.

Alumnos de Maicandil competirán en Seguridad Vial

Representación del retén de bomberos de Manilva en los trabajos de salvamento por el terremoto de Ecuador

Veinticinco alumnos de 6º del Colegio Maicandil se desplazarán el próximo miércoles a Linares para participar en la III Educación Provincial del Concurso "Gana puntos en Educación Vial".

Este evento, organizado por el Ayuntamiento de la citada localidad jiennense se llevará a cabo los días 5 y 6 de mayo y consistirá en pruebas relacionadas con la educación vial donde colegios de toda España tendrán que exponer sus conocimientos en la materia.

La preparación de los jóvenes de nuestra localidad, aunque desde el colegio se destina un apartado importante a la seguridad vial, ha corrido a cargo del Director de la Autoescuela Europa, Ricardo Mateo.

Por todo ello, el alcalde de

Javier Luque, bombero de Manilva, dentro del equipo que en estos momentos se desplaza a Ecuador para intervenir en la búsqueda de personas sepultadas con vida tras el terremoto.

Maicandil students compete in road safety contest Twenty-five students from year 6 of the Maicandil school travelled to Linares on Wednesday to participate in the III provincial edition of the "Road Safety Education” competition.

dogs officially endorsed by the INAP, have been dispatched to Ecuador to intervene in the search and rescue efforts to save those feared to have been buried alive in the recent earthquake, thanks to the support of the Provincial Government of Huelva, the Huelva Firefighters Consortium and an anonymous donation made by a resident of Marbella.

Flamenco costumes presented to the Sabinillas choir Councillors for Events Alba Jimenez and Antonio Barragan have presented flamenco dresses to the members of the Sabinillas Municipal Choir.

In a ceremony held in the multipurpose building, members of the choir showed their gratitude by presenting the councillor with a bouquet of flowers.

There were 16 outfits designed and made by Encarni Ledesma, who is in charge of the dressmaking workshop, who m Alba thanked for her hard work.

In addition, she also made a statement, referring to the chorus "our intention is to collaborate with and support all groups in the town and in this case, this donation is part of the recognition of the work carried out by these ladies, upon whom we can always count for all the events which we ask them to attend’.

The Manilva Choir travelled to the chapel at Alcalá de los Gazules where they sang at the Mass celebrated there.

The choir and their friends and family, numbering around 80 people, then proceeded to Medina Sidonia where they enjoyed lunch.

El Ayto está presente en la entrega de premios de los pescadores Manilveños La concejala de Playas, María Muñoz, en representación del Ayuntamiento de Manilva, acompañó a los deportistas locales a la entrega de premios de la V Edición de la Semana Náutica Solmarina.

La Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental organizó del 23 al 30 de abril, la V edición de la Semana Náutica SOLMARINA, un evento que aglutina una gran variedad de competiciones y exhibiciones náuticas.

En estas competición participaron vecinos de la localidad, quienes mostraron todo su potencial en una disciplina, la pesca, tan arraigada

en nuestro término y que en este caso está dando sus frutos deportivos.

Solmarina featured a wide range of nautical events and competitions

La Junta de Andalucía apuesta por proyectos en Manilva

La Equina, es un hospital de

Su director, Miguel Valdés, realizó un recorrido por las instalaciones junto a los gestores para explicarles los magníficos proyectos que mejorarán aún más la calidad del hospital y sus avances en materia de investigación.

A continuación, la expedición se trasladó a la fábrica de la cerveza local Gran de Select

para completar la ruta y que sus creadores explicaran el origen y el destino productivo de esta exquisita bebida.

El primer edil manilveño aprovechó la ocasión para tender la mano a La Equina para colaborar en la medida de lo posible en todo lo que se pueda ya que es un referente en el mundo del caballo a nivel europeo y el nombre de Manilva está ligado a él.

New holiday rental laws in Andalucia

A

fter years of discussion about the need to register private rental properties and a lot of pressure from the hotels here in Andalucía the Junta de Andalucía (regional Government) finally drafted a new law to regulate the private rental market here in Andalucia which will come into force from 11 May 2016 The intention, we are told, is to ensure the quality of accommodation offered and allow recourse to visitors if the accommodation or service provided falls below the standard expected therefore maintaining a positive image of Andalucia to the millions of tourists visiting each year.

The official Decree is 28/2016 There is a lot of confusion about what people need to do to comply with this new law and who it is applicable to.

Duquesa Estates, the largest supplier of this type of accommodation in the Manilva area, are outlining below the information we have been given directly from the department responsible for its implementation.

What is required from me to register What type of property needs to be my property? registered?

A certificate of first occupation or Cédula de Habitabilidad.

If you currently advertise or intend to advertise your property for holiday rental you will need to register and display your registration number on any advert that you have if the property is one of the following A property that is built on land classified as residential or in a residential building.

The property is to be rented to tourists on a short term basis, daily, weekly or even by the month If the property is listed with an intermediary like estate agent, on any reservation system or on line property portal such as airbnb, ownersdiect, etc or on any website or publication for the purpose of renting out to tourists.

Which properties are excluded?

Properties that are not advertised for rental and where no money changes hands, i.e you lend the property to family and friends.

If you rent out for 2 month or more to the same person then this would be classed as a long term rental and subject to that particular law.

Rural properties on land classified as rural Landlords owning 3 or more properties (Apartmentos Turisticos, effectively classed as an hotel and subject to those laws)

You should have received this from your solicitor at the time of purchase or it can be obtained from the town hall in Manilva.

Your NIE or passport number (if using a passport you will also need to submit a copy of this passport).

Referencia Catastral. 20 digit reference. You can find this on an IBI bill (annual council tax) Title deed registration number along with date and name of the Notary where you completed your purchase, you can find this information on the front cover of your title deeds or at the end of a Nota Simple.

The name and contact details of the registered key holder along with their company details if they are a company or the person’s name, NIE number and contact information if not a company.

Property requirements All bedrooms must have windows and shutters or curtains for when needed.

Lounge and bedrooms must have air conditioning during the summer (between May and September) and heating in the winter (October to April) you will have until May 2017 to install this if you don’t have this already.

A first aid kit must be available in all properties.

Information must be given on local facilities, i.e doctors, taxis, parking, restaurants, maps of the area etc , this can be printed or electronic information.

guests that one is available for guests to use in case of a complaint.

The property must be cleaned before and after every guest and included in the advertised price and a second set of linen should be provided.

Contact information and telephone number of key holder for any emergency or for complaints.

A copy of any community rules and bylaws must be clearly displayed in each property.

Advertised prices should be inclusive of electric, water and cleaning.

Upon arrival at the property.

A detailed holiday rental agreement or contract is to be given to guests and a copy kept for a year in case of inspection, this should include The address of the property and the registration number The owner’s name The amount paid for the accommodation The names of all guests and passport numbers Arrival and departure dates.

Registering guests A registration form will also need to be filled in by those arriving in Spain to comply with Spanish security, similar to registration in a hotel, the registered key holder will then have 24 hours to submit these plus copies of all passports for everyone over 16 to the Guadia Civil via their online database, a username and password can be obtained for this from the Guadia Civil in Malaga only.

Registration forms need to be held for 3 years in case of inspection by the Spanish security services.

In conclusion It is possible to fill in and register the property yourself and the process of obtaining the registration number is completely free of charge however it is a 7 page document only available in Spanish with a lot of room for error.

This law comes into effect from the 11th of May and even though the registration process doesn’t start until that date the Junta de Andalucia now expect everyone to have submitted their application by that date.

If possible it would be advisable to get someone to do it on your behalf to avoid delays, most solicitors and accountants appear to be charging around a hundred euros to submit the application for their clients which covers their time, Duquesa Estates are registering our client’s properties at no charge.

The registration however is just the first step in the process and what is not being widely reported is the ongoing responsibilities associated with processing and managing the bookings once the law is applicable so it is important to use only registered agents for key holding who can and will fulfill the Spanish side of an owner’s obligation to

register guests properly and deal with any issues because it will be the owners of the property who could be fined if the property fails an inspection further down the line and with fines ranging from €2000 to €150,000 this new law should to be taken seriously .

Implemented correctly we believe the new laws are actually a good thing providing accountability in the private letting market and will only enhance visitors holidays hopefully bring them back for years to come.

The number of properties being offered for rental will most certainly drop later this year boosting bookings for owners who are prepared to offer a decent standard of accommodation and service.

Demand this year is at an all time high with Spain being more popular than ever and the Manilva area becoming a firm favourite with visitors from all over Europe.

Romeria de San Isidro

Estepona celebra su Santo Patrón, San Isidro Labrador, con una romería el domingo 8 de mayo y la feria agrícola del 10 al 15 de mayo.

San Isidro Labrador, que casualmente también es el patrón de Madrid, vivió en Madrid durante el siglo XII, cuando solo era una aldea, donde trabajó como agricultor. Siempre estaba rezando pero según la leyenda, los ángeles asumieron su carga de trabajo para dejarle tiempo para sus devociones…¡tengo que acordarme de eso!

La Romería o peregrinación se celebrará en la Ermita de San Isidro en el parque de Los Pedregales el domingo 8 de mayo.

Atrae a miles de esteponeros que van al parque a divertirse y a celebrar a su patrón con picnics, barbacoas y ¡algo de beber!

El día del santo San Isidro Labrador se celebra el 15 de

San Isidro Labrador, who incidentally is also Madrid’s patron, lived in Madrid during the 12th century when it was but a village, where he worked as a lowly farm labourer. He was always engrossed in prayer but according to legend his workload was taken on by angels so as to leave him time for his devotions, must remember that one!

El Ayuntamiento inicia la redacción del proyecto de remodelación de la avenida Andalucía

Estepona ha iniciado la redacción del proyecto de remodelación de la avenida Andalucía, que supondrá el impulso de la actividad comercial y la descongestión del tráfico en la zona. Los técnicos han comenzado a trabajar en el diseño de la primera fase de la avenida, en concreto, la que conecta la avenida España con 'La Lobilla'.

Concejal Velasco ha mantenido varios encuentros con los vecinos y comerciantes de la zona para consensuar el proyecto de remodelación, que permitirá aumentar el número de aparcamientos, reforzar el tejido empresarial y convertir esta arteria en una ampliación del casco antiguo.

La transformación de la avenida Andalucía es una de las principales propuestas del programa electoral del equipo de gobierno, ya que se trata de una de las vías más colapsadas por

el tráfico debido al incremento de los desplazamientos de los residentes y al aumento de las visitas turísticas.

Por este motivo, el Ayuntamiento continúa trabajando en la creación de un vial alternativo, que conectará el paseo marítimo con el Auditorio Felipe VI, y que permitirá reducir la circulación en la avenida Andalucía.

Velasco ha apuntado que este vial alternativo se encuentra ejecutado en un 80 por ciento,

y ha añadido que el tramo pendiente es el comprendido entre el instituto Mar de Alborán y el Auditorio Felipe VI. “En estos momentos estamos trabajando con la junta de compensación de residentes de la zona de Juan Benítez para que cuanto antes se puedan acometer las obras que restan para concluir la carretera que descongestionar de tráfico a la avenida Andalucía”, ha subrayado la concejala de Fomento e Infraestructuras.

The saint’s day San Isidro Labrador is actually celebrated on the 15th May, which this year falls on Sunday, and this is traditionally accompanied by a feria with celebrations, competitions, processions throughout the town and a funfair at the fairground. This year’s feria runs from Tuesday 10 to Sunday the 15 when the feria will reach its finale with a firework display.

Worth noting also is that Monday, 16 is a local holiday in Estepona so expect many of the shops and businesses to be closed.

Estepona’s beaches to receive 40,000 cubic metres of sand before summer

Estepona has begun drawing up plans for the project to remodel Avenida Andalucia, one of the Town’s main arteries. Technicians have already begun designing the first phase which is the section connecting Avenida España with La Lobilla.

According to the Councillor for Public Works and Infrastructure,

This year’s beach restoration campaign will see some 40,000 cubic metres of sand imported to Estepona’s beaches, almost twice as much as last year.

l Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha adjudicado la explotación del Parque Botánico-Orquidario a una empresa especializada en botánica y jardinería, con el objetivo de que este equipamiento se beneficie de una serie de mejoras en su mantenimiento y conservación, al tiempo que los usuarios disfrutan de más servicios.

El pliego de condiciones del concurso público recoge que todos los empadronados en Estepona recibirán cada año de dos entradas gratuitas para visitar estas instalaciones, que se han convertido en uno de los principales focos de atracción turística del municipio. Los interesados en utilizar estas invitaciones podrán hacerlo en el edificio Puertosol. Las entradas para las personas no empadronadas tendrán un precio de 3 euros (adultos) y de un 1 euro para los niños de hasta 11 años.

Las mejoras que efectuará la concesionaria – UTE Orquidario- incluye la ampliación de los horarios de este equipamiento, de manera que se adecuan mejor a las necesidades de los turistas en las diferentes épocas del año. A ese respecto,

he Estepona Town Hall has awarded the concession to operate the Orchid House and botanic gardens to a company specialising in botany and gardening, allowing the park to benefit from a number of improvements in its maintenance and conservation, while visitors will be able to enjoy more services.

Among the details in the contract is a clause which will guarantee two free tickets each year to all those registered as living in Estepona to visit these facilities, which have become one of the main tourist attractions in the municipality. Those interested in receiving these invitations may do so in the Puertosol building. Tickets for non residents will cost 3 euros for adults and 1 euro for

children up to 11 years.

Improvements being made by the concessionaire - UTE Orquidario- includes extended visiting hours, so that is better suited to the needs of tourists during different seasons. Statistics show that 60 percent of visitors to this facility have been foreigners, mainly British, German and Scandinavian, and 40 percent Spanish tourists and residents of the municipality.

III Semana Del Patrimonio El domingo 1 de mayo, se inaugurará la III Semana del Patrimonio con un recorrido por el casco histórico de la banda ‘Los amigos de la música’, con actuaciones de flamenco y del taller juvenil de teatro y con un recital de alumnos del colegio Simón Fernández en la calle Villa.

Además, se organizan visitas didácticas al Museo Arqueológico, al Castillo de San Luis, a la Casa de Tejerinas (que alberga la colección de arte Garó’), a la iglesia Nuestra Señora de los Remedios y a la plaza del Reloj. Por último el domingo 8 de mayo coincidiendo con la romería en honor al patrón, San Isidro Labrador, se celebrará una jornada de puertas abiertas en el centro dolménico de Corominas.

The III Heritage Week will include several lectures at the Casa de la Cultura, located in the Plaza de Las Flores, about the history of Estepona, given by Francisco Javier Melero, professor at the University of Granada, doctor of Contemporary history Jose Luis Casado, archaeologist Javier Noriega Hernandez and municipal archaeologist Ildefonso Navarro.

The third week will feature a flamenco festival to be held on Saturday May 7 on Calle Villa. The festival will be accompanied by Diego Olé and has the support of the Asociación Nuevo Futuro (New Future Association).

The Archaeological Museum will also host an exhibition throughout the week entitled "Water in history '. El Ayuntamiento adjudica el proyecto para crear un mercado gourmet y recibirá un canon de 1,7 millones de euros durante la concesión

Estepona to receive 1.7 million euros from the creation of the new gourmet market Estepona Town Hall has awarded the concession for the gourmet market, which will occupy the area currently used by the indoor market, to the company RA Residencias, SL, who will spend some 600,000 euros renovating the building and converting it into a foodies’ paradise.

The company will also pay an annual fee of the 20 years of the concession which will bring some 1.7 million euros to the Town Coffers over the 20 year period.

El que será el primer mercado de estas características de la localidad, creará 75 puestos de trabajo y contará con 26 puestos en la planta baja y dos en la entreplanta El Ayuntamiento de Estepona informa de que se ha procedido a proponer la adjudicación de las obras de rehabilitación del edificio municipal del mercado de abastos para convertirlo en 'mercado gourmet'. La empresa que, a criterio de los técnicos municipales ha resultado adjudicataria, es R&A Residencias, S.L., que tendrá una concesión administrativa durante 20 años. En este

sentido, el concejal adscrito al área de Comercio, José Antonio Vílchez, ha destacado que la empresa adjudicataria aportará a las arcas municipales un canon anual siete veces mayor al propuesto en el pliego de condiciones de licitación, por lo que el Consistorio ingresará un total de 1,7 millones de euros, durante el periodo de concesión.

El edil ha valorado el interés que ha despertado este proyecto -con un total de siete propuestas recibidas- y ha destacado que el objetivo del Consistorio es renovar y fomentar la actividad en este recinto porque “la ubicación del mercado de abastos es inmejorable, ya que se encuentra en pleno casco antiguo de la ciudad, por lo que creemos necesario darle

una nueva imagen y renovar sus instalaciones para favorecer y revitalizar la actividad comercial en la zona”.

El proyecto, que permitirá la creación de 75 puestos de trabajo, incorpora 26 puestos en la planta baja y dos en la entreplanta además de aseos, zona de residuos, cuarto de instalaciones y un área de terrazas. Por otro lado, la empresa adjudicataria invertirá unos 600.000 euros en la renovación del actual edificio del mercado de abastos. Las obras tendrán una duración de cuatro meses, si bien la empresa tiene ahora otros tres meses para presentar el proyecto completo y pedir las licencias de obra correspondientes.

El Ayuntamiento conmemorará el quinto aniversario del proyecto 'Jardín de la Costa del Sol' con un amplio programa de actividades culturales El Ayuntamiento informa que celebrará los cinco primeros años del proyecto municipal 'Estepona, Jardín de la Costa del Sol' con un amplio programa de actividades culturales, que tendrá lugar los días 1 y 2 de julio.

Esta iniciativa ha supuesto la remodelación de 80 calles en el casco antiguo, la puesta en marcha de una Ruta de Murales Artísticos en los barrios del municipio y la creación de una Ruta de la Poesía en diferentes lenguas en el centro.

Entre las actividades previstas en diferentes enclaves de la ciudad, cabe destacar la sesión inaugural que ofrecerá el prestigioso arquitecto Salvador Moreno Peralta, que hará un recorrido por la arquitectura y el urbanismo en el municipio y la que protagonizará el artista plástico Juan José San Pedro bajo el tema 'Pintura en el Jardín de la Costa del Sol'.

Además, se organizará una mesa

sobre la 'Ruta de Murales de Estepona' en la que participarán artistas que han formado parte de este original proyecto como José Fernández Ríos, Francisco Alarcón, Elena Aguilera, Curro Leyton o Conchi álvarez, entre otros.

Por otra parte, se ha previsto la celebración de tres rutas guiadas para que las personas interesadas puedan saber más sobre algunos de los proyectos que se han impulsado bajo la iniciativa.

En cuanto a las actuaciones musicales, el Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha propuesto para esos días dos conciertos. El primero, 'Estepona suena de cine', correrá a cargo de la Orquesta de Cuerda 'Acanthus', que dirige José Manuel Parra, y tendrá como escenario el Castillo de San Luis.

El segundo estará protagonizado por el compositor y pianista Felipe Campuzano, y se celebrará en el

Auditorio Felipe VI. El Consistorio también ha convocado el concurso de poesía y pintura 'Estepona Inspira', que pretende premiar las obras que plasmen “el rincón más elocuente, más representantivo o que mejor transmita sensaciones o vivencias relacionadas con Estepona”. El plazo de admisión de las obras será desde el 1 de junio hasta el 24 de junio. Impuestos en la compraventa de una vivienda

D

e acuerdo con la legislación española, todo individuo que resida en España más de 183 días al año es considerado residentes fiscales en España y debe pagar impuestos en nuestro país por sus ingresos obtenidos en todo el mundo.

Muchos extranjeros que viven permanentemente en España, o sea más de 183 días al año, no pagan ningún impuesto en España, o no presentan declaraciones anuales de la renta. Algunos no presentan la declaración de la renta por ignorancia, y otros porque piensan que si los impuestos en España son muy altos, etc. Sea cual sea la razón, es importante saber que el desconocimiento de la ley no excluye de su cumplimiento. La declaración de la renta debe presentarse anualmente, y los impuestos deben ser pagados cuando sea aplicable a todos los residentes fiscales en España.

Hasta el día de hoy, la Agencia Tributaria no ha estado controlando la situación de

aquellos extranjeros que viven de forma permanente en España, a pesar del hecho de que las autoridades son conscientes de la importancia de este grupo de personas. Ahora la situación ha cambiado, debido a la crisis económica el gobierno español ha intensificado los controles sobre este grupo de personas (extranjeros que viven en España) para garantizar que éstos paguen sus impuestos cuando tengan obligación de hacerlo.

Y es que uno de los principales motivos por el que el gobierno español ha iniciado una nueva campaña en busca de aquellos que no hacen su declaración de la renta es para evitar que miles de personas reciban asistencia sanitaria gratis sin pagar impuestos y sin tener derecho a recibirla. Es por ello que se han endurecido los requisitos necesarios que permiten a las personas obtener la tarjeta sanitaria española. Al contrario de lo que ocurría en el pasado, ya no será suficiente con registrarse en el ayuntamiento (empadronarse) para obtener asistencia médica.

Por todo ello, si aún no ha presentado su declaración de la renta como residente fiscal, éste es el momento de hacerlo mediante la presentación de la declaración de la renta del año 2015, durante los meses de mayo y junio de 2016.

Hay muchas buenas razones para hacer ello. Esto permitirá a los extranjeros residentes: 1. 1.Confirmar a la Agencia tributaria sin ninguna duda, que ellos son residentes fiscales en España, que viven permanentemente aquí y pagan sus impuestos cuando tienen la obligación de hacerlo.

2. 2.Tener derecho a recibir tarjeta sanitaria que permite el acceso al sistema público de salud español.

3. 3.Evitar el 3 % de retención aplicable a no residentes cuando venden un inmueble y no pueden probar que son residentes fiscales en España.

4. 4.Beneficiarse de las ventajas y deducciones que el impuesto de sucesiones y donaciones aplica a los residentes fiscales (por ejemplo, eliminación del impuesto de sucesiones entre esposos, sobre la vivienda habitual, etc..).

5. 5.Ser considerado residente fiscal en España, y así evitar el impuesto sobre la renta presunta aplicable a los no residentes que son propietarios de bienes inmuebles en España (modelo 210).

Es importante mencionar, que la mayoría de los extranjeros que viven en España son pensionistas, cuyos ingresos mensuales no son muy altos, por lo que deben ser conscientes que lo más probable es que no tengan que pagar ningún impuesto de la renta en España ya que el resultado de su declaración de la renta será probablemente cero o en el caso de tener que pagar ésta será una pequeña cantidad. Sin embargo, es recomendable presentar dicha declaración (incluso cuando el resultado es cero y no hay impuestos que pagar), para poder así aprovecharse de los beneficios descritos anteriormente.

No esperes más, Si eres extranjero y vives de forma permanente en España (más de 183 días entre el 1 de enero 2015 y 31 de diciembre

2015 ) te recomendamos presentar tu declaración de la renta del año 2015 durante los meses de mayo y junio 2016.

Haciendo esto, confirmarás a la Agencia tributaria que eres, sin lugar a dudas, residente fiscal en España, evitando problemas posteriores y posibles multas, teniendo todos los derechos que las leyes españolas reconocen a todos los individuos que residen legalmente en España y pagan sus impuestos aquí.

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona convoca el XVII Certamen de Cartas Escritas por una Mujer TO BE OR NOT TO BE TAX RESIDENT IN SPAIN - THAT’S THE QUESTION According to the Spanish Law each individual who lives in Spain for more than 183 days a year is considered a tax resident in Spain, and should pay taxes in Spain for their worldwide income.

Many foreigners living in Spain permanently, (i.e. more than 183 days a year), do not pay any taxes in Spain, or submit annual income tax returns. Some do not submit annual tax returns out of ignorance of the law, and others because they are afraid of paying high taxes, etc. Whatever the reason, is important to be aware that ignorance of the law is no excuse. The Tax return declaration should be submitted annually, and taxes should be paid when applicable by all tax residents in Spain.

Up to date, the Spanish Inland Revenue has not been controlling the situation of those foreigners living permanently in Spain, despite the fact that authorities are aware of this important group of people. Now the situation has changed, due to the economical crisis, the Spanish Government has intensified controls of this group of people (foreigners living in Spain) to ensure that they pay taxes where due.

One of the main reasons why Spanish Government has launched a new campaign in search of those who do not submit their Tax return is to avoid thousands of people receiving free health services without paying taxes and without having the legal right to get them. For that reason, they have strengthened the legal requirements that allow people to get Spanish health cards. Unlike in the past, now it will not be enough to just register with the local Town Hall (called “Empadronamiento”) in order to get treatment.

Therefore, NOW is the time to formally become a tax resident in Spain by submitting your annual income tax return for the tax year 2015, This should be done during the months of May and June 2016.

There are many good reasons for doing this. It will enable foreign residents to: 1.Confirm to the Spanish tax authorities without doubt, that they, the tax resident, is living in Spain, and paying taxes when applicable.

2.Have the legal right to receive a health card which allows access to the Spanish Public health system.

3.Avoid the 3 % withholding tax when a real estate property is sold. This tax is applicable to foreigners who sell a property and cannot prove that they are a tax resident in Spain.

4.Benefit from the inheritance tax advantages and allowances applicable to tax residents in Spain (i.e. no inheritance taxes between spouses on the main home).

5.Be considered a tax resident in Spain, thus avoiding the income tax applicable to non-resident foreigners who are owners of a real estate property in Spain (tax form 210).

It is important to mention that most foreigners living in Spain are pensioners with low monthly pensions, so they should be aware that they probably will not have to pay any income tax in Spain as the result of their tax return would most likely be zero or in the event they have to pay, this will be a small amount. However, it is still recommendable to submit an annual tax return, (even if the result is zero and no tax has to be paid), to enable them to be able to take advantage of the above points.

Don´t wait any longer, if you are foreigner living permanently in Spain (for more than 183 days between 1st January 2015 and 31st December 2015) I would recommend that you submit an annual income tax return for the tax year 2015, during the months of May and June 2016. By doing so,confirming to the Spanish Tax Authorities that you are, without doubt, a tax resident in Spain, you will avoid any potential problems, or fines, and will have all the legal rights that the Spanish Laws recognizes are due to all individuals residing legally in Spain and duly paying their taxes here.

The Estepona Town Hall announces the XVII edition of the Letters Written by a Woman competition The deadline to participate in the XVII "Letters written by a woman" competition will remain open until May 31.

El Auditorio Felipe VI acogerá el último espectáculo del bailaor flamenco Antonio de Verónica El teniente alcalde del área Sociocultural y Servicios, Blas Ruzafa, y el bailaor malagueño Antonio de Verónica, han presentado el espectáculo 'Por Derecho', que se representará el sábado, 21 de mayo, en el Auditorio Felipe VI de Estepona.

El responsable municipal ha señalado que se trata de “una magnífica oportunidad para disfrutar de una de las grandes promesas del baile, que ha realizado colaboraciones con artistas tan consagrados como Farruquito, Miguel Poveda, Estrella Morente y Antonio 'El Pipa'.

Recordamos que Antonio de Verónica presentó con éxito en Estepona en 2014 su anterior espectáculo 'El Flamenco perdura en el tiempo', y con la próxima representación en el Auditorio Felipe VI volverá a entusiasmar al público. Este entorno ecológicamente equilibrado ha sido recreado en Benalmádena. Pero primero, vamos a intentar responder a esa importante pregunta: ¿cuál es la diferencia entre una polilla y una mariposa?

Las mariposas vuelan sobre todo de día, tienen antenas en forma de tambor, un cuerpo delgado y cuando aterrizan pliegan sus alas verticalmente sobre su cuerpo.

Las polillas vuelan de noche, y tienen colores más apagados para camuflarse ya que duermen de día. Además, tienen antenas plumosas y cuerpos gruesos y peludos para conservar el calor.

Cuando aterrizan, las alas se extienden y pliegan sobre el cuerpo para revelar el diseño sobre las alas superiores.

Podrás aprender todo esto y mucho más en el Mariposario de Benalmádena, donde más de mil mariposas vuelan de flor en flor y ocasionalmente a tu hombro.

El exterior del Mariposario recuerda a un templo tailandés y dentro parece una selva tropical. Exuberante vegetación con coloridas flores, arbustos y orquídeas proporcionan las estructuras para las polillas y las mariposas. Butterfly House at Benalmadena A moth inadvertently lands in a patch of mud. It extends and beats its wings frantically to try and release itself, to no avail, both wings became stuck in the ooze and the moth dies. 190 million years later, in Dorset, England, the fossil of the oldest known moth in the world was found. In the intervening years 160,000 species of moth and 17,500 species of butterfly evolved. Each is distinct from the next with its own colours and patterns that have evolved as defence mechanisms or as camouflage to hide the insect from predators and each has evolved a unique relationship with particular species of plants. This ecologically balanced environment has been recreated in Benalmadena. But first an answer to that burning question, â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;What is the difference between a moth and a butterflyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;.

Butterflies mainly fly during the day, have drum shaped antenna, a slim body and when landed fold their wings vertically over the body. Moths fly at night, have more muted colours for camouflage since they sleep during the day,

have feathery antennae and thick, hairy bodies for warmth. When landed the wings extend and fold over the body to reveal the pattern on the upper wings.

All these facts and more can be learnt at the Butterfly House in Benalmadena where over a thousand butterflies flit from flower to leaf and occasionally, shoulder.

Outside the Butterfly House resembles a Thai temple and inside is a semi tropical jungle. Lush vegetation with colourful flowers, shrubs and orchids, provide the structures for the moths and butterflies. The plants have been chosen to host the many species and provide shelter for the eggs, food for the caterpillars, a fixing for the chrysalis and a perch for the newly emerged butterfly whilst it dries its wings. In addition to host plants, some of the planting is purely ornamental and some of it is for the nectar producing flowers that feed the butterflies.

Staff regularly sift through the plants and remove the chrysalises to a purpose built rack that is on display. Here visitors can actually

watch the butterflies and moths emerge. Each species has its own season so there is something to see all year round.

Running through the house is a stream that emerges from on high over a waterfall. A pond contains Koi Carp, some are quite large and may well have included unwary butterflies in their diets. One creature that definitely preys on moths and such is the Chameleon, which is why he is kept in a cage rather than let loose to hunt. Of no threat to the other inhabitants, including humans, are the iguanas that drape themselves indolently wherever they fancy, the tortoises, a few finches and parrots and surprisingly, a wallaby.

Over 500 butterfly and moth species have been collected from all over the world, Asia, the

Americas, Europe and Oceania and include the largest moth in the world, the snakes head moth.

This is a nocturnal moth that perches and sleeps during the day; conveniently on a bush adjacent to

the path that wends its way through the jungle. To protect itself from predators whilst asleep it spreads its wings and then resembles, you guessed it, a snake, well two actually, one on each wing.

“La Operita de Estepona” presentará el próximo viernes, 6 de mayo de 2016, a las 20:30 horas, “La Serva Padrona” de Pergolesi.

Bajo la dirección del barítono internacional David Geary, la obra estará interpretada por la soprano Sonia García Quintero, el barítono Karl Svensson y el actor Francesco Ortiz.

Al compositor, violinista y organista italiano del período Barroco, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710-1736), se le conoce como el “Mozart italiano” no sólo por su precocidad , sino también por su estilo sencillo y ágil y su música bella y seductora. “La sirvienta patrona” es una de sus obras más célebres que aún perdura en los repertorios. Con libreto de Genaro Antonio Federico, se estrenó en 1733 en el Teatro San Bartolomeo de Nápoles.

Argumento: La criada Serpina, que en italiano significa “pequeña serpiente”, se encarga del cuidado de la casa de su patrón Uberto, un rico y malgeniudo solterón. Cuando éste anuncia su intención de casarse, Serpina asegura que será ella quien se convertirá en la esposa de Uberto y en la dueña absoluta de la casa. Primero, le demuestra a Uberto que ya no puede prescindir de ella; luego aparenta que va a casarse y le presenta a su supuesto novio, que no es más que el criado mudo Vespone disfrazado de militar.

Finalmente, Despina le pone a su patrón un ultimátum: o le paga 400 taleros de dote o se casa con ella, y Uberto elige el matrimonio, convirtiéndose así la sirvienta en patrona.

Personajes: Uberto, un viejo solterón; Serpina, su sirvienta y después su esposa; y Vespone, su criado.

The "Estepona Operita" will perform ‘La Serva Padrona’ by Pergolesi on Friday, May 6, 2016, at 8:30 pm.

Composer, violinist and organist of the Italian Baroque period, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710-1736), is known as the "Italian Mozart" not only for his precociousness, but also for his simple and lively style and his beautiful and seductive music.

‘La Serva Padrona’ (The patron maid) is one of the most famous examples of his work, which still lingers in modern day repertoires.

With a libretto by Genaro Antonio Federico, it premiered in 1733 at the Teatro San Bartolomeo in Naples.

“Le nace a la aurora un mechón de colores”, recita este verso la geisha mientras eleva la tetera sutilmente para servir una taza de té a su invitado, adversario de los influyentes, tratante de empresarios y políticos en la economía soberana de reyes y emperadores.

“Ahora, conversaré, y displicente, manipularé las entrañas de mi postulante –piensa la geisha con exageración, malevolente, de ese hombre menudo y blanco que se encuentra frente a ella–. Tendré la oportunidad de entrar en él como una ola en la arena, seré yo quien penetre en sus pensamientos”.

Así la geisha se convertía en espía de sus clientes.

Hay dos pretendientes más esperando en la taberna de enfrente. Pero esos, no quieren servicios que les inciten solo el alma; y a esos, ella les puede servir más cómodamente el té, están más distraídos. Un té que no se sirve del mismo modo a los hombres que a las mujeres, o a los afeminados.

El biznieto de uno de los apóstoles quiere convertir a la geisha al cristianismo.

Conoció a la geisha entre los árboles de la granja.

Jugueteaba en el arroyo una tarde clara, bailaba con la misma libertad de las flores de azahar que agitaba el viento.

Era tan joven y tan delicada, educada por su madre en la previsión para ser cortés y sucumbir con astucia a todos los hechizos del deseo carnal.

El biznieto de uno de los apóstoles, habló con ella, durante tres semanas seguidas, hasta llegadas las lluvias de otoño que invadieron campos y pueblos, y la geisha, se fue con su familia, en silencio, a la ciudad, para tratar de conquistar la fortuna de los nobles con la seducción de su juventud. Pero le costaba aprender y sus escasas habilidades con los hombres la hicieron fracasar y acabar en la miseria.

Hubo una contienda entre sectas secretas y al biznieto del apóstol lo asesinaron. Ideologías encontradas siempre son motivos para la sangre. A la geisha, al poco tiempo, también la mataron, después de ser violada. Nada pudo hacer su señor por ella, y dicen, algo incierto, pues antes de morir ya lo había conseguido, que todo su mal le vino por no saber servir correctamente el té. Para de nada le valió la información adquirida en el lecho de sus amantes.

Su señor era rico pero torpe.

Al cabo de varios años, y por el acérrimo de un Ángel bondadoso, que por su gran entusiasmo fue oído por Dios, el espíritu de la geisha y del biznieto del apóstol, se

volvieron a ver en una llanura que había cercana al cielo, y, aunque esto era común en el reino de Dios, en ellos, todavía no había pasado el tiempo de purificación que determinara dicho encuentro en ese lugar predilecto.

Ella, contenta de ver al biznieto del apóstol, le dijo que Dios le había prometido responderle a una pregunta, la cual le formuló, estando aún en la tierra, en unos momentos de humillación, arrojo y tristeza, por no saber las artes propias de las geishas, y por otros motivos familiares. Y durante la guerra, cuando los días pasaban lentos, con soldados que intentaban abusar de ella, las guerrillas destrozaban pueblos, y todas las guaridas eran ocupadas por ancianos, mujeres y niños huyendo con terror de la contienda, fue cuando Dios le dijo que un día respondería a su pregunta.

–Tu tristeza es mayor por ti que por tu pueblo –le comunicó el Señor en un sueño–; pero no te culpo, así fue como te educaron. Tendré misericordia de tu alma.

La geisha, complaciente con todos, embrocó su conciencia a un estado de reflexión que le producía apatía.

El biznieto del apóstol, que desde el principio distinguió en los ojos de la geisha docilidad, dulzura y benevolencia, no dudó en rogar a Dios por ella para que su futuro fuera más favorable. Y aunque el final, como ya he dicho, fue aciago, tuvo la suerte, antes de morir, de habitar en la gran casa durante tres años conviviendo con su señor, rico pero mundano, y así lograr vivir en la dignidad deseada durante períodos anteriores.

–Sé que el Señor de los cielos y de la tierra te ama –declaró el biznieto del apóstol.

–No sé… –dijo la geisha con una humildad impregnada de cordialidad–. No he obtenido aún la respuesta.

–No te preocupes por nada. Si ahora estamos juntos, este encuentro no es casual, sino propiciado por el Alto

Si aprendo a vivir y aunque un día no es una vida entera, que el impulso del amanecer rebose de esperanza y luz nuestra vida y la haga eterna en ese instante de felicidad que siente el corazón al recibir su alborada, a pesar de todo el sufrimiento humano que nos depare el destino.

Voy temprano a recibir el sol recién nacido, esa luz del sol que despeja la incertidumbre y despereza el mundo.

La garcilla bueyera vuela en su ritmo cómplice contra un viento frío que enero trae a los valles.

El corazón, por la mañana, ofrece más valor al día; después, en los estuarios se agolpan los pensamientos, las marismas encarcelan con la materia los propósitos de un alma que intenta ser feliz.

La tarde es elegante, tibia y familiar, pero hay veces que no la puedo sentir. ¿Sabiduría? Oh, un reclamo que el orgullo no deja penetrar en mí.

La paz será posible si aprendo a nacer cada día con el nuevo sol.

Sé que estás esperando una respuesta –te dije ofreciéndote mi mano. >–¿Y cómo sabías que iba a realizarte una pregunta? >–Lo sé, como sé muchas otras cosas de ti. >–Entonces, respóndeme, esta es la pregunta: ¿Existe un dolor divino? >–Hoy he enviado al biznieto del apóstol, que, en el pasado, aunque intentó convertirte a la religión cristiana, él tampoco aprendió correctamente a servir el té a sus hermanos. Solo le preocupaba anunciar ante los hombres y los poderosos su linaje, hasta me negó como Pedro y rehusaba ante los demás ser biznieto de uno de los apóstoles del Hijo de Dios. Hija mía, ve y busca al biznieto del apóstol. Sé que en la tierra habló contigo durante varios días para tratar de convertirte al cristianismo, y no pudo hacerlo. En verdad, eso era una prueba para él.

Dios desapareció, y allí estaba detrás de ella el biznieto del apóstol al que le dijo: –Sigo sin respuesta a mi pregunta. Yo solo sé que puedo llorar por el dolor humano de Dios; porque hay un dolor humano de Padre. El corazón siente el letargo de las llagas de su hijo. Y entre la espesa corriente de ambición y egoísmo del hombre, gotea un llanto, gemido en la esperanza de su amor…

–Sí –interrumpió el biznieto del apóstol–, nuestros espíritus han de viajar a la tierra nuevamente para sembrar en el aire. El dolor que sentimos se convertirá en gozo y sobrepasará la barrera del tiempo. No supe vivir mi vida con alegría. Cuando tuve miedo debí decir: “Señor, solo respiro la libertad en el gozo de Ti, ofrécele descanso a mi alma”. Pero no dije eso y me avergoncé. >Ahora tenemos el permiso de Dios. >Yo también, al igual que tú, tengo una pregunta para Dios. Me gustaría saber, qué dijo a mi bisabuelo cuando Jesús resucitó, para que perdiera el miedo y comprendiera que el dolor y la muerte se transformaron en vida.

–A los dos nos habló sabiamente. Pero en el mundo está la respuesta a esa pregunta. De dónde hemos venido y adonde partiremos ahora.

Jesús apareció ante ellos, y antes de que marcharan les dijo: –No seáis impacientes. Volveréis con la respuesta.

Recordad que también a vosotros os notifiqué mi muerte y para vuestro gozo la resurrección anunciada. Siempre os estoy esperando.

That career was followed by twenty two years in the Lancashire Constabulary, fourteen of which were on detached, village beats.

He and his partner, Julie Evans, moved to Spain in the year 2000.

They started a business, Duquesa Business Centre and a website design company.

In the year 2004 they created a magazine, ‘Andalucia Life’ that, over the following five years, became the best read magazine onthe Costa del Sol. The magazine was sold in 2011.

In 2010 Nick and Julie bought a failing business and developed Estepona Port Business and Internet Centre that was sold in 2015.

Now they are concentrating on a community site, www.visitandalucia.com, their webdesign business, www.wecandu.com and producing travelogues about Andalucia. Their first eBook, ‘The Sherry Triangle’ was published in November 2015.

Successful Completion of Water Pipeline in Mutomo Area of Kenya ‘The Art of Helping People in Africa’

This is the story of the cooperation between 2 Rotary clubs in different countries with an art gallery in Puerto Banus to raise more than €54,000 to provide a pipeline and storage tanks for the longterm, reliable supply of fresh drinking water in 4 villages and several schools in Kenya with a total population of about 4,500 people.

The Beginning - Spring 2015 Mikael Segelström and Camilla Selander, the young entrepreneurs behind the large and successful Timeless Gallery in Puerto Banus, had decided that they have received so much in their lives that they wanted to give something back. They approached the Rotary Club Marbella-Guadalmina and

proposed that they would hold an auction of works of modern paintings and sculptures and donate the proceeds to a charitable project, if we would help them to find a suitable project. This English speaking Rotary club rose to the challenge. Mikael and Camilla preferred a water related project in Africa. Rotary is an International

organisation with over 1 million members world-wide and a Swedish club, the Uppsala Carolina Rotary Club, had a project that everyone wanted to support - the Mutomo Water Project. This project had been started and supervised by Sten Kvarfordh of the Swedish club in 2001 and was well established but needed funds for expansion.

Lorraine Powell coordinated on behalf of the Marbella-Guadalmina Rotary Club.

Timeless Gallery organised the auction which took place on 25th April 2015. They donated paintings and sculptures from their artists at reduced prices and held the auction on an outside stage in Puerto Banus, also providing the clients with drinks, canapes and live music. Everyone had a wonderful time while spending their money.

The time, money and effort that Timeless Gallery put in raised the amazing sum of over €54,000 all of which went to the Mutomo Project.

Description of the Mutomo Water Project – Kithini extension.

The Mutomo area is in a semidesert zone between Nairobi and Mombasa in South East Kenya.

Most of the wells and boreholes have either brackish or salt water.

There is some water catchment by dams and but the rainy periods in November and March are unreliable. Near Kithini, which is about 10 km outside Mutomo, there is a borehole that produces drinkable water. The Swedish club had already set up an NGO which employed 7 project leaders in Mutomo and the plan was to build 2 extensions of an existing pipeline of 1.9 km and 8.8 km, 1 large water tank and 3 water kiosks with taps.

These would supply water to the 3,500 people in the villages of Kakunio, Muvuyuni, Kanzi and Syunguni and 1,000 pupils at several schools.

Completion of the Project.

The Project has been successfully completed and Sten visited the Rotary Club Marbella-Guadalmina at our lunch-time meeting on 7th April to give us and our friends from Timeless Gallery an update and show us photos of the work as it progressed and the completed project in use.

The women and girls previously needed to walk as much 20 km to fetch water in large containers but

now they can fetch it from kiosks close to their homes. This gives them more time so the girls can go to school and the women can farm and look after their homes. Water is also available for irrigation which will ensure that the farmers can have more reliable harvests.

Project control.

Sten Kvarfordh is a dentist who worked as a volunteer in the Mutomo Mission Hospital for 6-7 weeks in 2001. On his return, he and the Uppsala Carolina Rotary Club collected money over several years to build water tanks and an earth dam in the Mutomo area.

Sten has retired and now oversees the Sweden Mutomo NGO which works with 17 Swedish Rotary Clubs, having about 250 members and 60 sponsors. He speaks with the 7 employed project managers in Kenya every Friday afternoon by means of Skype and so is able to control the project with fewer personal visits to Kenya than before. All of the Swedish Rotarians who are involved in the project are unpaid volunteers and some visit Mutomo each year at their own expense.

La Organización Benéfica Saint George descubre de primera mano el trabajo del comedor social de Estepona

L

os miembros y voluntarios del Comité de la Organización Benéfica Saint George se reunieron con representantes del Ayuntamiento de Manilva en un almuerzo organizado por Emaus Obra de Amor, que dirige el comedor social de Estepona.

El evento se celebró para dar a conocer a los voluntarios el trabajo del comedor social, y para que vieran los beneficios proporcionados a través de su duro trabajo en las tiendas, mercadillos y eventos de la Organización Saint George.

La Organización Benéfica Saint George también aprovechó la oportunidad para presentar un cheque de 9.600 Euros para el

proyecto “Dale de comer a un niño”, que intenta proporcionar un desayuno completo a 40 escolares que de otra forma no tendrían la comida más importante del día.

También estuvo en la presentación Jojo France y Janice Haycock de la guardería Kiddibank, cuyo esfuerzo ha hecho que este proyecto sea una realidad.

El objetivo es proporcionar almuerzos para los muchos niños que pasan hambre mientras están en el colegio.

Todos los padres saben, y las investigaciones han demostrado que, un niño que pasa hambre tiene problemas de concentración y por tanto su rendimiento

escolar será deficiente. La educación es la clave para salir del ciclo de la pobreza y por tanto nos hemos asociado con Emaus Obra de Amor, quienes dirigen seis comedores sociales en Málaga, para distribuir paquetes de almuerzos a estos niños que de otra forma no comerían mientras están en el colegio.

Todos disfrutaron de la comida, que era idéntica a la comida distribuida a los “clientes” del comedor, muchos de los cuales dijeron que estaba realmente sabrosa, y que simplemente porque es un comedor social no significa que la comida deba ser insípida o aburrida.

Saint George Charity discover at first hand the work of Estepona’s social kitchen

aint George Charity Committee members and volunteers were joined by representatives from Manilva Town Hall at a lunch hosted by Emaus Obra de Amor who run the social kitchen in Estepona.

The event was to raise awareness with the volunteers as to the work of the social kitchen and for them to see some of the benefits provided by their hard work in the Saint George Charity's shops, markets, and events.

The Saint George Charity also took the opportunity to present a cheque for 9,600 euros for the 'Feed a Child' project which aims to provide a packed breakfast for

40 schoolkids who otherwise would go without this most important of meals.

Also there for the presentation were Jojo France and Janice Haycock of Kiddibank nursery school whose hard work had made the project possible.

The goal is to provide packed lunches for the many children that go hungry during the school day.

Every parent knows, and research has proven, that a hungry child finds it difficult to concentrate and therefore will underachieve at school. Education is the key to breaking the poverty cycle and therefore we have teamed up with Emaus Obra de Amor, who run six social kitchens throughout Málaga Province, to distribute lunch packs to these children who would otherwise go without food during school hours.

Everyone enjoyed the meal which was identical to the food distributed to the kitchen’s ‘customers’, many of whom remarked how tasty it was, and that just because it was a soup kitchen didn’t mean the food had to be bland and uninteresting.

The Saint George Charity is pleased to collaborate with Emaus and all the good work they do to relieve hunger in the Province.

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain weekly surgery The Duquesa Charitable Society of St George is hosting a weekly surgery by Citizens Advice Bureau Spain every Wednesday morning from 10.30 am to 1 pm.

The surgery will be held at the St George Charity’s new shop in Calle Aurora de Albornoz, Punta Almina, Sabinillas, and is part of the Charity’s community support programme.

If you would like to see one of CAB Spain’s advisers then pop along to the shop on Wednesday morning, although it is advisable to book an appointment as it can sometimes be busy.

All consultations are free but CAB Spain is funded by donations, so if you feel that their advice has been valuable then please make a donation in the tin provided.

Brian’s HALO jump for charity Plucky (or mad) local resident, Brian Forgie, is setting off to Tennessee in the US to fulfill a lifelong dream of carrying out a HALO parachute jump. This technique is often employed by special forces and stands for High Altitude Low Opening and involves leaving the aircraft at a high altitude, in this case around 9.5 kms and freefalling for some two and a half minutes before opening the 'chute.

This is not an exercise to be undertaken lightly, only some 120 civilians have ever jumped from this height, and the facility in Tennessee is the only one to offer the opportunity to none military personnel. Some of the dangers include possibility of heart attack, in the rarified atmosphere Brian will reach speeds of up to 300 mph, that's more than double the terminal velocity expected at lower

Estepona Floral Art Club Believe it or not Estepona Floral Art Club have come to the last demonstration of the current program and they can’t believe the Flower Club year has passed so quickly.

This month’s demonstrator is Sharon Badger from Leicestershire. Sharon is an Area demonstrator who has passed her pre national demonstrators test. Her work has been featured in The Flower Arranger magazine on several occasions, twice she has arranged flowers at Westminster Abbey and she also arranged flowers at Leicester Cathedral to celebrate the life of Richard III. Like so many of the demonstrators who come to demonstrate to the Club Sharon is a very busy lady, she’s Chairman of her local Flower Club in Market Harborough, she has co designed and organised flower festivals. She is an Area teacher and judge, she teaches a beginners class in Leicester as well as private workshops in her local area.

Sharon’s demonstration is on Tuesday May 17 starting promptly at 3pm at Agro Jardin, Cancelada. It promises to be an interesting and entertaining afternoon when Sharon will create several wonderful designs on stage. Everyone is welcome, you don’t need to have a knowledge of flowers or flower arranging to enjoy the afternoon, visitors fee is 10€.

This month Sharon, who teaches flower arranging, has kindly said she will lead a workshop on Thursday May 19, starting at 11 o’clock, the design this month will be a table arrangement. This is a superb opportunity to take advantage of some excellent tuition.

‘Alerta animal’, primera ‘app’ española para denunciar el maltrato animal

El Observatorio Justicia y Defensa Animal ha presentado ‘Alerta animal’, la primera aplicación española para denunciar casos de maltrato animal desde dispositivos móviles.

Con esta ‘app’ cualquier persona que sea testigo de un caso de maltrato animal podrá poner al corriente al equipo jurídico del Observatorio, quienes valorarán si se emprenden medidas legales sobre el caso.

La aplicación permite que la denuncia se realice de forma gratuita y anónima, protegiendo así la identidad del denunciante.

SENCILLA E INTUITIVA Se trata de una aplicación sencilla para el usuario. La primera pantalla ofrece información sobre el maltrato animal, describe las situaciones susceptibles de ser denunciadas, explica quién recibe la denuncia, también la política de anonimato y, finalmente, ofrece la opción de denuncia.

EL OBSERVATORIO El Observatorio Justicia y Defensa Animal nació en el 2012 y está integrado por abogados, periodistas, docentes y veterinarios. Es una asociación

sin animo de lucro, cuyo objetivo es la defensa y la protección jurídica de los animales.

Desde su creación han denunciado aproximadamente unos 400 casos de maltrato animal en España.

La organización con esta aplicación pretende sensibilizar a la sociedad sobre el maltrato animal y facilitar que estas situaciones no queden impunes.

El transporte de animales dentro de un vehículo.

Obligaciones impuestas por el Reglamento General de Circulación Cuando vamos a salir de viaje con nuestro perro o gato, especialmente si el viaje va a ser largo, es fundamental que pensemos en nuestra seguridad desde diversos puntos de vista. Es preciso tomar las medidas necesarias para garantizar la seguridad del conductor, de los ocupantes y del animal transportado, además de no impedir, en ningún momento, la concentración y visibilidad del conductor.

En este sentido, el Reglamento General de Circulación establece que los conductores deberán estar en todo momento en condiciones de controlar sus vehículos o animales.

Además, el conductor está obligado a mantener su propia libertad de movimientos, el campo necesario de visión y la atención permanente a la conducción de tal forma que se garanticen su propia seguridad, la del resto de ocupantes del vehículo y la de los demás usuarios de la vía. Al objeto de conseguir estos extremos, debe cuidar especialmente de mantener la posición adecuada y que la mantengan el resto

de pasajeros y la adecuada colocación de los objetos o animales transportados para que no haya interferencia entre el conductor y cualquiera de ellos.

Por último, es preciso recordar que la superficie acristalada del vehículo debe permitir, en todo caso, la visibilidad diáfana del conductor sobre toda la vía por la que circule.

Estas normas obligan principalmente a que el transporte de animales dentro de un vehículo se efectúe con unas determinadas condiciones que garanticen la seguridad y no interfieran en modo alguno en la labor de conducción, lo cual implica transportar a los animales de forma que se puedan controlar fácilmente y en un lugar en el que no puedan en modo alguno molestar al conductor no debiendo perder de vista que los animales pueden actuar en un determinado momento de forma incontrolada, asustarse ante determinados movimientos o situaciones de la vía o de otros usuarios.

No debe encerrarse al animal en el maletero si no está acostumbrado porque puede

emitir sollozos y molestar o poner nervioso al conductor. Si se lleva en transportín, no debe colocarse cerca de un airbag porque, en caso de existir algún problema, se podría dañar su estructura y al propio animal.

Un buen sistema consiste en habilitar un lugar que los mantenga aislados del resto de pasajeros del vehículo. La mejor opción son las barreras a medida, sobre todo las colocadas por el propio constructor del automóvil porque se adaptan mejor y son más resistentes.

También el arnés de seguridad es seguro, sobre todo para perros grandes, pues permite asegurar que el animal se mantiene en la parte de atrás y lo retiene en caso de frenazo o colisión.

Cabe señalar que los gatos siempre deben ser transportados en un trasportín cerrado, adecuada para su tamaño, por su seguridad, así como la seguridad de todos los que están en el vehículo. Con el movimiento del vehículo muchos gatos sufren pánico, y en un tipo de arnés o atado a un cinturón de seguridad se puedan escapar o lesionarse.

ALERTA ANIMAL ‘first’ Spanish app to denounce animal abuse The Observatorio Justicia y Defensa Animal (the web site justice observatory and animal defence) presented Animal Alert, the first Spanish application to report cases of animal abuse from mobile devices.

With this ‘app’ anyone who witnesses a case of animal abuse can inform the legal team of the Observatory, who will assess whether legal measures will be undertaken in this case. The application allows the complaint to be made free and anonymously, thus protecting the identity of the complainant.

Simple and intuitive It is a simple application for the user. The first screen provides information on animal abuse, describing the situations likely to be denounced, explains who will receive the complaint, also explaining the policy of anonymity and finally offering the option of

denunciation – filing a complaint.

The complaint may be supplemented with audiovisual material and the exact location where the abuse is occurring.

For now it is only available for users of Android phones and can be downloaded for free at the PlayStore.

THE OBSERVATORY The Animal Justice and Defence Centre was founded in 2012 and is composed of lawyers, journalists, teachers and veterinarians. It is a non-profit association whose objective is the defense and the legal protection of animal’s rights.

Since its inception there have been about 400 cases of animal abuse reported in Spain.

The organization, with the use of this application, aims to raise awareness about animal abuse and to facilitate that these situations and their perpetrators are punished for their abusive practises.

The transport of animals within a vehicle When going out travelling with our dog or cat, especially if the trip will be long, it is essential to think about our safety from various points of view. One must take steps to ensure the safety of the driver, occupants and any animals along for the ride, as well as not, at any time, affecting concentration or visibility of the driver.

In this regard, the General Traffic Regulations states that drivers must, at all times, be able to control their vehicles and their animals.

In addition, the driver is required to maintain their own freedom of movement, their required field of vision and to be able to maintain permanent attention to driving so that their safety will be guaranteed, as well as the rest of vehicle´s occupants and the other drivers, and vehicles on the road. In order to achieve these ends, one should take special care to maintain proper position while keeping the rest of the passengers and objects or animals transported placed in such a manner so that there is no interference between the driver and any of them. Finally, it should be recalled that the glazed surfaces of the vehicle must, at all times, allow clear visibility for the driver over the entire route being travelled.

These standards require, primarily, that the transport of animals within a vehicle is provided with the fulfilment of certain conditions that ensure security for all and do not interfere, in any way, with the operation of the vehicle or its driver. This involves transporting the animals so that they can be easily controlled, in a place where they cannot, in any way, disturb

the driver. We must not lose sight that animals can behave, at any given time, in an uncontrolled way, frightened by certain movements or situations of the road or other vehicles.

Animals should not be confined in the boot, if it is not being used, because they can emit sobs or unnerve and annoy the driver.

If confined in carrier, the carrier should not be placed near an airbag because if there is any problem, it could damage its structure, the animal itself, or other passengers.

A good system is to have or prepare a place to keep them isolated from other passengers in the vehicle. The best option would be barriers, especially those set by the manufacturer of the automobile itself because they are better suited and are more resistant. Also the safety harness is safe, especially for large dogs, it helps ensure that the animal is kept in the back and holds it in a particular area in case of sudden stop or collision.

There are also devices that can be attached to the seat belts which benefit the animal as well as the driver and any other passengers.

It should be noted that cats should always be transported in a proper enclosed carrier, adequate for their size, for their security as well as the safety of all those in the vehicle.

With the movement of the vehicle many cats panic, and in a harness or seat belt type restraint they may escape or injure themselves.

Anyone for Panto? - Oh Yes We Are! A local theatre group is looking for cast members for an original pantomime planned for later this year.

Written by local publican, Tony Gates from Fathoms Bar in Sabinillas, the panto takes a cheeky swipe at expat life on the Costa, and will be staged at the Manilva Wine Centre Theatre.

Auditions are planned for August time, with rehearsals beginning the back end of September. The production requires a cast of around 40 to 50 actors of all ages, and around 10 people backstage - scenery builders, lighting and sound engineers, etc.

Tony has already had a good few people express an interest, but is

looking to complete the numbers by the middle of May, he is particularly in need of some children to fill a number of roles written for kids.

It is anticipated that rehearsals will be held on Tuesday evenings and

Sunday afternoons.

Great lineup of live music in Estepona Port this month Estepona Port's top music venues Louie Louie Rock Bar and King Creole's have each put together a great programme of music for the month of May with wide range of local, national and international acts appearing live on their respective stages.

Louie Louie kicks off with Chicago blues rock foursome The Steepwater Band, who will be performing on Friday 6 May as part of their Shake Your Faith Tour, tickets 12€ in advance; 15€ on the door. The next night night,

The Skatalites y Siniestro Total cabezas de cartel del Festival Coincierto de Coín Como si no tuviéramos bastante música en vivo este verano, el pueblo de Coín, a unos 30 km al norte de Marbella, ha anunciado su Festival Coincierto, un festival que dura todo el día con música en vivo y artesanía, que se celebrará el sábado 21 de mayo.

El festival cuenta con un gran cartel, incluyendo a The Skatalites que vuelven al sur de España tras su exitoso concierto en Benalmádena el año pasado. The Skatalites son un grupo de ska de Jamaica.

Tocaron inicialmente entre 1963 y 1965 y grabaron muchas de sus canciones más conocidas en ese periodo, incluyendo “Guns of Navarone”. También tocaron en discos de Prince Buster y para otros muchos artistas jamaicanos que grabaron en ese periodo. Se reunieron en 1983 y tocan juntos desde entonces.

Otros artistas que tocarán en los seis escenarios del centro de Coín son la banda punk rock gallega Siniestro Total, y el combo de rock Furia Trinidad. Con ellos,

Skatalites encontraremos una gran selección de bandas que representan muchos géneros musicales como Jarrillo Lata, We Are Not Dj´S, Elphomega, El Cirguero, Malaka Youth, Suit Casual, La Maruja i Otras Hierbas, Briatore, El Zurdo, El Veneno del Boquerón, Hairy Nipples, Las Ventanas,

King Wadaba Sound, Soulbelle, Mª Ángeles Tirado e Ismael Chicano, Batucada Sambagua Do Rio, Gabriel Temblante y Buluc Chabtan.

También habrá música y entretenimiento para los niños, junto a un mercadillo de artesanías y exhibiciones de arte callejero.

The Skatalites and Siniestra Total headline Coin’s Coincierto Festival As if there wasn’t enough great live music available this summer, the town of Coin, some 30 km north of Marbella, has announced its Coincierto Festival, a day long festival of live music and art, to be held on Saturday 21 May. The festival features a great lineup of bands, with headliners The Skatalites returning to the South of Spain following their sell-out gig in Benalmadena last year.

The Skatalites are a ska band from Jamaica. They played initially between 1963 and 1965, and recorded many of their best known songs in the period, including "Guns of Navarone." They also played on records by Prince Buster and backed many other Jamaican artists who recorded during that period. They reformed in 1983 and have played together ever since.

Other artists appearing on the festival’s six town centre stages are Galician punk rockers Siniestra Total and western rock combo Furia

Trinidad. Joining them are a great selection of bands representing a wide range of musical genres including Jarrillo Lata, We Are Not Dj´S, Elphomega, El Cirguero, Malaka Youth, Suit Casual, La Maruja i Otras Hierbas, Briatore, El Zurdo, El Veneno Del Boquerón, Hairy Nipples, Las Ventanas, King Wadada Sound, Soulbelle, Mª Ángeles Tirado e Ismael Chicano, Batucada Sambagua Do Rio, Gabriel Temblante, and Buluc Chabtan.

There is also music and entertainment specifically for kids, along with a craft market and displays of street art.

Entry is free except for the Main Stage headline acts for which the first 300 tickets are available for just 10 euros each, after which tickets are 12 euros until 20 May with entry on the day just 17 euros.

Trabajadores de la construcción desentierran más de media tonelada de monedas romanas cerca de Sevilla El descubrimiento, el miércoles 27 de abril del 2016, de 600 kilos de monedas romanas en condición casi perfecta es apasionante en sí mismo, y ha llevado a realizar más labores de búsqueda. De lo poco que sabemos hoy, el entusiasmo no ha hecho más que comenzar.

El descubrimiento se realizó en Tomares, cerca de Sevilla.

Durante el periodo romano, Sevilla se llamaba Hispalis y ocupó las orillas orientales del Río Guadalquivir (Baetis para los romanos), a unos ochenta kilómetros de la desembocadura del río. Tomares está a tres kilómetros al oeste, y ligeramente al sur del centro de la ciudad romana de Hispalis, en la orilla occidental del Baetis.

A seis kilómetros al norte de Tomares, aún al oeste del río, está la ciudad romana de Itálica.

La ruta al norte desde Hispalis era conocida como la Ruta de la Plata, la carretera de plata que conectaba a Hispalis con las minas de plata del norte de la Península Ibérica, y la ruta al oeste era parte de la Vía Augusta, y llevaba a las ricas minas de cobre y plata

de Río Tinto y hasta el puerto de Huelva (Onoba). Hispalis fue el primer punto de cruce del Baetis, aunque no la línea de navegación.

Los barcos que aventuraban por el Baetis hasta Córdoba. Hispalis fue, quizá significativamente, un importante puerto romano.

Tomares era entonces literalmente un cruce de caminos: al oeste Huelva y las minas de Río Tinto, al sur Cádiz, con su importante puerto, al este Córdoba y todos los puntos al este y al norte como Itálica, Mérida y la Ruta de la Plata.

Las monedas habrían estado contenidas en 19 ánforas romanas. Las ánforas son jarras de cerámica cocida que fueron ampliamente usadas para el transporte de bienes por mar, tanto secos como líquidos. En las jarras hay restos que podrían ser de bolsas de tela usadas para albergar las monedas en paquetes discretos.

Las monedas muestras inscripciones de los Emperadores Maximian y Constantine.

Constantine era el hijastro de Maximian y también su yerno.

Arboretum opens registration period for new urban allotments Arboretum Foundation has launched a new project for Marbella, 70 more organic urban allotments which will encourage sustainable development and bring together the community. Residents and groups can apply to have an allotment to grow their own fruit and vegetables learning about organic cultivation methods and applying them. Applicants must be schools or groups located in Marbella, or residents which have been registered on the Marbella council register for at least one year who want to become more sustainable. The application period closes on the 15th of May. Alejandro César Orioli, Director of the Arboretum Foundation commented; “Urban Allotments are another way that Arboretum is bringing sustainability closer to the community and creating new, more fulfilling spaces in Marbella. The only way to make real change is by taking intelligent and innovative action. This is why we started this project two years ago and we haven’t stopped receiving praise from the community and interest in the project, so we are now working to create 70 more urban allotments

to bring the total to 100. We want these allotments to bring together the different generations, social groups and cultures in Marbella.

This has the potential to be an amazing meeting point where the community can come together and develop an even greater cultural diversity.”

These new allotments are located in Arboretum Marbella in Finca El Trapiche, close to the Marbella bus station, where the first 30 urban allotments were created two years ago. People can apply to have an allotment from until the 15th of May by emailing huertos@arboretummarbella.org

or by visiting the website www. arboretummarbella.org and the lucky ones who are allocated an allotment will be able to start cultivating from July onwards.

The allotments were designed using the principles of permaculture, a system which promotes sustainable development, and the team from Arboretum is running their annual Permaculture Design Course in October, to help more people learn this important discipline. Construction workers unearth over half a ton of Roman coins near Seville The find, on Wednesday 27th April 2016, of 600 kilograms of Roman coins in almost mint condition is exciting in itself and will lead to further avenues of research.

From the little we know today the excitement is already beginning.

The find was made at Tomares near Seville. During the Roman period Seville was called Hispalis and occupied a site on the eastern banks of the Rio Guadalquivir (Baetis to the Romans) some eighty kilometres from the mouth of the river. Tomares is three kilometres west and slightly south of the centre of the Roman city of Hispalis, on the west bank of the Baetis.

Six kilometres north of Tomares, still to the west of the river, is the Roman city of Itálica. The route north from Hispalis was known as the Ruta de la Plata, the silver road connecting Hispalis with the silver mines in the north of the Iberian peninsula, and the route to the west was part of the Via Augusta and led to the rich copper and silver mines of the Rio Tinto and further to the

port of Huelva, (Onoba). Hispalis was the first crossing point on the Baetis although not the head of navigation. Boats could venture up the Baetis as far as Cordoba.

Hispalis was, perhaps significantly, a major Roman port.

Tomares then was at a literal crossroads, to the west Huelva and the Rio Tinto mines, the south Cadiz itself a major port, the east Cordoba and all points east and to the north Italica, Merida and the Ruta de la Plata.

The coins are reported to have been contained in 19 Roman amphora. Amphora are fired ceramic jars that were extensively used for the transport of goods by sea, dry as well as wet. Within the jars there are threads that could be the remains of cloth bags used to keep the coins in discreet packages.

The coins are reported to show inscriptions of the Emperors Maximian and Constantine.

Constantine was Maximian's stepgrandson and also his son in law.

Feed a Child Appeal WOW what a month! by Jojo France

I

n January this year I became aware of some very needy children on the coast, there are over 400 families along the coast visit different soup kitchens every day to receive an evening meal, For most families this is their one meal a day.

I couldn’t imagine sending my son to school without food in his belly or a lunch to look forward to. So, I decided to do something about it. I launched ‘Feed A Child Appeal’ With the help of social services (via The Duquesa Charitable Society of St George) We identified the neediest 40 children, all based in Estepona, I aimed to raise enough funds to feed these 40 children for 1 year at the cost of 20 € per month per child, so my goal was set, I now need to raise 9,600 euros The launch of the appeal was to be a Family Fun Day, where anyone of any age, in teams of up to four persons could participate in various team games, four physical games, like push ups, skipping, four agility games, which included throwing games and even dressing someone up from a suitcase and finally four mind games, these proved to be challenging, There were lots of other things going on, bouncy castle, face painting, A mini car

boot sale, a golf putting arena, a bar, BBQ and cakes, live singers and bands all day, it was a fabulous atmosphere, full of families having some hot, sweaty fun. Everything was run by volunteers with all monies going direct to our appeal. The Staff from Kiddibank Nursery were amazing, without the support of Janice and her team the day would not have been possible.

That day alone we managed to raise 5,500 euros.

Since then, we have had a pub quiz, that raised 700e, an amazing raffle (still ongoing), ladies breakfast mornings, a Padel tournament, a second hand pop-up book shop, and we have other events lined up for the year.

The local people have been amazing, we have pledges by people from every walk of life, including one child who handed over her money box, it contained 14.26 euros, I’m not ashamed to say I was very emotional at that donation.

María Maldonado bronce en la prueba absoluta y ocho medallas más para los tiradores del Club Internacional “Andaluzía” en el Criterium Andaluz De Esgrima

El pasado fin de semana ha tenido lugar en el Polideportivo de la Cala de Mijas de Málaga la VI Copa de Andalucía categoría absoluta masculina y femenina, así como el criterium de esgrima para menores de 10 y 12 años.

Trece tiradores en categoría infantil y cuatro en categoría absoluta del Club “AndaluZía” tomaron parte en esta competición con un gran éxito.

La tiradora del club María Maldonado fue medalla de bronce en una gran competición. Muy buena actuación también de Adrian Agustyn y Juanjo Esquivel que se clasificaron entre los diez primeros para el campeonato de Andalucía. Rafael Guisado realizó una gran actuación en su primera prueba oficial del calendario Andaluz.

En la categoría masculina de menores de 12 años Daniel Arminio, Fran Pérez, Harry Canepa y Lucien Neale demostraron su saber hacer con la espada así como Claudia Morodo y Amelia Deardon que se alzó con una medalla de bronce muy meritoria y trabajada en su primera competición oficial autonómica.

En categoría masculina de menores de 10 años consiguieron medalla Lyndon Neale y Nicolás Pérez. En el grupo de niñas de menores de 10 años Catherine Deardon resultó ganadora de la competición, Cristina Nalda y Marta Serrano obtuvieron plata, Zulema Ochagavías y Teresa Córdoba bronce respectivamente. Todos ellos preparan con ilusión su participación en el próximo Campeonato de España en Madrid el próximo 12 de junio.

Estos nuevos resultados ponen de manifiesto el buen trabajo que sigue realizando después de nueve años de su fundación el Club Internacional de Esgrima “AndaluZia”.

Estos logros no hubieran sido posibles sin el arduo trabajo del maestro de armas Paul Holder responsable del equipo de competición absoluto y de sus monitores Lorena Jimenez y Miguel Fernández que estuvieron ayudando y apoyando en todo momento a los jóvenes deportistas. Con su duro trabajo están formando con gran esfuerzo y dedicación a estos tiradores y son parte importantísima de sus éxitos.

Manilva organiza una masterclass de zumba para el mes de junio

a delegación de Juventud y Deportes del Ayuntamiento de Manilva está preparando para el sábado 4 de junio una Masterclass de Zumba que se celebrará en el pabellón deportivo de Sabinillas.

Todo lo recaudado con este evento irá a parar a la Asociación de disminuidos Físicos, Psíquicos y Sensoriales de la localidad, Luisana.

En la actividad participarán los monitores Jordy Girales de Barcelona, Thiago y Christin de La Línea, Aitor de Casares, Raquel de Estepona y Gema Vélez y Jessica Quiñones de Manilva.

Maria Maldonado bronze medalist in the main test and another eight medals for members of the International "Andaluzia" Fencing Club in the Andalucian Fencing Criterium The Cala de Mijas Sports Center in Malaga recently hosted the VI Andalucian Cup for male and female main categories, as well as the junior under 10 and 12 years competition.

Thirteen competitors in the junior category and four in the main category from the "Andaluzia" fencing club took part in this competition with great success.

Club fencer Maria Maldonado took away the bronze medal in the main competition. Also a very good performance from Adrian Augustin and Juanjo Esquivel who qualified in the top ten for the Andalucian championship. Rafael Guisado performed very well in his first official test of the Andalucian calendar.

In the male under 12 category Daniel Arminio, Fran Pérez, Harry Canepa and Lucien Neale demonstrated their know-how as well as Claudia Morodo and Amelia Deardon who won a well deserved bronze medal at her first official regional competition.

were both awarded medals. In the girls under 10 Catherine Deardon won the competition, Cristina Nalda and Marta Serrano obtained silver, Zulema Ochagavías and Teresa Córdoba bronze. They are all enthusiastically preparing to participate in the next Spanish Championship in Madrid on 12 June.

These latest results highlight the great work still going on nine years after the foundation of the "Andaluzia" International Fencing Club.

These achievements would not have been possible without master of arms Paul Holder’s hard work as leader of the main competitive fencing team and Lorena Jimenez and Miguel Fernández who at all times give their help and support to the young athletes. With their hard work, great effort and dedication they are helping to shape these young fencers and are an important part of their success.
