Estepona finish season group champions El Club de Fútbol Unión de Estepona termina su temporada siendo campeones en su grupo IX en tercera División ganando Granada Atlético 41. A pesar de que todavía falta un partido, nadie les puede alcanzar.

Este resultado les pone en la fase de ascenso a Segunda B, Estepona ascendió la pasada temporada desde la Primera Andaluza y se ha convertido en el equipo revelación de la temporada, ya que ha conseguido sumar 84 puntos en 26 victorias y seis empates.

El sorteo se celebra el lunes 18 a las 16:30 horas.

Unión Estepona Club de Fútbol have continued their impressive form by finishing top of group IX of Spain’s Third Division with their 4 - 0 drubbing of Granada Atlético. Even though there is still one more week of the season left, they hold an unbeatable position at the top.

This result puts them in the play-offs for promotion to Spain’s Second Division B, less than a year after rising from the Primera Andaluza regional football competition.

They will play the champions from other Third Division groups in the play-offs this summer.

EDITORIAL Siempre me han educado para respetar a aquellos que han luchado y peleado para hacer posible la democracia moderna que tenemos hoy en día y para que la mayoría de los ciudadanos tengan derecho a votar a aquellos que los representen en el gobierno, y donde ha sido posible siempre he votado.

Así pues con ésto en mente y como ciudadano europeo y fiel creyente de los principios de la Unión Europea, me informaré sobre las diferentes propuestas de los partidos para las próximas elecciones del Parlamento Europeo.

Bueno, hasta aquí, he recibido información adónde tengo que ir a votar, también sé la fecha: Domingo 7 de Junio para votar aquí en España, pero nada más. ¡A quién votar y qué propuesta, no tengo ni idea! Creo que España tiene 50 escaños disponibles en el Parlamento Europeo, pero ¿Quién representará los intereses de nuestra zona?

Si la unión Europea quiere realmente tener más votantes en sus elecciones parlamentaria necesita dar información, como por ejemplo enviando a todos los potenciales votantes un folleto explicativo y así de esta manera votarían más personas.

Hace un par de meses mencioné el aumento de delincuencia en la zona, que según las Autoridades, se debe desgraciadamente a la crisis financiera, así pues, es un placer comentar la experiencia de uno de nuestros lectores, lo cual reconforta mi fe en el ser humano.

Sacó dinero de un cajero automático en Sabinillas, puso su tarjeta de crédito en el bolsillo trasero, pero del mismo bolsillo trasero sacó su cartera para poner el dinero. Haciendo ésto, se le cayó la tarjeta de crédito.

Dándose cuenta de ésto más tarde, corrió hacia el cajero mirando y buscando por la acera sin resultado alguno, supuestamente alguien la había cogido.

Con pánico de tan solo pensar que le habían vaciado la cuenta bancaria en minutos, corrió hacia la casa, llamó a su banco en Reino Unido para bloquear dicha tarjeta.

Nuestro lector que es agnóstico se ha dado cuenta que la siguiente pequeña oración funciona nueve de diez veces: “San Antonio Bendito: Ayúdame a encontrar mi objeto perdido” Una vez que se hubo calmado, nuestro lector volvió al cajero para revisar bien. Un hombre joven español se acercó a él y ¡en su mano llevaba su tarjeta perdida!. Antes de entregársela, sin embargo, quiso asegurarse de su identidad, así pues nuestro lector lo llevó a la oficina de un amigo que confirmó quien realmente era. ¿uno entre un millón? ¡No hay duda de que San Antonio le ha echado una mano...!

Tristemente, nuestro lector no le preguntó el nombre del honesto joven samaritano. Si lee ésto, nuestro lector le da “Muchísimas Gracias” una y otra vez.

I have always been brought up to respect those who have fought and struggled to make possible the modern democracy we live in today, and to provide the majority of citizens the right to vote for those who will represent them in government and where possible I have always exercised this right to vote. So with this in mind as a European citizen, and a keen supporter of the European Union principle I thought I’d inform myself of my choices in the forthcoming European Parliament elections.

Fair enough, I thought, I’ve received information as to where I can cast my ballot, I also know that Sunday, 7th June is the date for voting in Spain, but there it ends. Who or what I should vote for I haven’t a clue. Apparently Spain has 50 seats available in the EU parliament, but who is representing the interests of this area?

If the EU really wants to raise the generally poor turn out at its parliamentary elections it really does need to address this information vacuum, even just an explanatory leaflet sent to all potential voters would surely improve these numbers.

A couple a months ago I mentioned the rise in crime in the area, which according the authorities, is an unfortunate consequence of the financial crisis, so it is with pleasure I can report the recent experience of one of our readers, which restored my faith in human nature.

He had drawn cash from an ATM in Sabinillas, put his credit card in a back pocket, but from the same pocket took out his wallet to receive the cash. In doing so, he unknowingly dropped his credit card.

Realising this moments later, he hurried back to the ATM, searching the pavements unsuccessfully along the way; obviously someone had picked it up.

With panic-stricken thoughts of his bank account being emptied within minutes, he all but ran home, called his UK bank and had the card blocked.

Our reader, if anything, is agnostic but has found that the following little prayer works nine times out of ten: “Dear Saint Anthony, finder of all lost things, help me find so and so.”

Once he had calmed down, our reader went back to the ATM and searched again. A young Spanish man approached him, holding the lost card! Before handing it back however, he wanted proof of identity, so our reader took him to the office of a friend of long standing who set matters right.

A chance in a million? There’s no doubt Saint Anthony had a hand in it...

Sadly, our reader never asked the name of the very honest young Samaritan.

Should he read this, our reader says, “Muchisimas Gracias” over and over again.

Los XII Juegos del Estrecho para el 20 de junio salvar la celebración de la cita deportiva este año, prevista para el próximo 30 de mayo en San Roque.

Recalcar que después de recortar drásticamente el presupuesto inicial de 200.000 euros para destinar el dinero a una serie de prioridades municipales, se volvía a rebajar a 146.000 euros, y posteriormente a 106.000 euros, quedando finalmente el presupuesto en 60.000 euro

Tras el apoyo mostrado a San Roque por parte de todos los municipios participantes en los Juegos del Estrecho, el equipo de Gobierno sanroqueño trabaja meticulosamente en el nuevo plan de la XII entrega de la cita deportiva.

La propuesta, sería celebrar los Juegos el próximo 20 de junio, con un presupuesto de 60.000 euros.

Cadiz provincial sports department along with the cutting of the budget to around 60,000 euros it has been agreed that the Games should go ahead beginning on the 20th June.

Con la colaboración de la Dirección Adjunta de Vigilancia Aduanera, se estableció el oportuno dispositivo con el fin de detectar la llegada de la embarcación.

Las gestiones practicadas permitieron averiguar que el lugar elegido para introducir la droga era la playa de El Saladillo, en Estepona. Tras divisar una lancha neumática entrando en aguas territoriales españolas, al parecer cargada con una importante cantidad de sustancia estupefaciente, se puso en marcha un amplio dispositivo, coordinado desde la base de operaciones del GRECO de Cádiz de la Policía Nacional, para detener a todos los implicados.

Cuando la embarcación tomó tierra y comenzó la descarga de los fardos de hachís, los agentes cortaron los accesos a la playa. Al verse sorprendidos, los integrantes del grupo que participaban en el alijo intentaron huir por los alrededores, pero fueron finalmente detenidos. La lancha neumática contenía cincuenta y nueve fardos de hachís, con un peso total de 1.970 kilos de sustancia estupefaciente. El resto de miembros de la organización fueron arrestados horas más tarde, y no se descartan nuevas detenciones.

Se han practicado un total de cinco registros en los que se han intervenido cerca de 75.000 euros en efectivo, diversa documentación, equipos informáticos y electrónicos, y un total de cinco vehículos. Además, se han congelado trece cuentas bancarias.

Drug trafficking ring busted A joint operation by National Police and Customs forces led to the round up of a hashish smuggling gang and the recovery of nearly two tons of the drug.

The gang operating in the Cadiz and Malaga provinces bring the drugs in by boat. Thirteen gang members were arrested whilst trying to bring in 1,970 kilos of hashish at the El Saladillo beach on the coast of Estepona.

Police surveillance had been carried out by specialist agents, focusing on a criminal group based in the Manilva/Sotogrande

area, who were suspected of importing large amounts of the drug.

They received information that a large shipment was due and in collaboration with the Customs Department a surveillance operation was put into place on the Cadiz/ Malaga coast.

Once the rubber dinghy containing a large quantity of drugs was spotted forces were mobilised coordinated by the GRECO (Organised Crime Squad) in Cadiz.

Desarticulada una organización dedicada al tráfico de hachís a gran escala Agentes de la Policía Nacional, en una operación conjunta con Vigilancia Aduanera, han desarticulado una organización dedicada al tráfico de estupefacientes a gran escala. Introducían la droga mediante embarcaciones semirrígidas a través de la costa gaditana y malagueña. Hay trece detenidos y se han intervenido 1.970 kilos de hachís que intentaban introducir mediante una lancha neumática en la playa de El Saladillo, en Estepona (Málaga). Se han practicado cinco registros domiciliarios.

Las investigaciones, realizadas por agentes especializados en la lucha contra el narcotráfico, se centraron sobre un grupo criminal asentado en la zona de Sotogrande y Manilva, dedicado a la introducción de grandes cantidades de hachís mediante lanchas neumáticas.

GIBRALTAR GONHS Deploys Weather Station The Caves Science Unit of the’ Caves and Cliffs Section of the Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society, has announced the installation of GONHS’ very own weather station on the Upper Rock.

This station has been purchased by Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL), as part of its collaborative project with GONHS, in order to monitor the weather on the southern side of The Rock.

As the Caves and Cliffs Sections base at Governor’s Cottage is at the same height as the entrance to Lower St Michael’s Cave, this was an ideal place for such a station.

Data is currently being downloaded manually using battery power, but the section is exploring the feasibilty of automating the process, with a view to publishing its data online.

Más de 70 socios e invitados del American Club de Estepona disfrutaron de un auténtico almuerzo en la Huerta del Pozo, un típico y rústico restaurante dirigido por una conocida familia de Casares. El cava fue servido “al fresco” en la terraza con vistas panorámica al pueblo de Casares, seguida de una auténtica comida casera hecha por la jefa de cocina, Mari Cruz junto con su marido Paco y otros miembros de la familia. Los platos de cerdo ibérico fueron cocinados en un horno de leña, servido con pan cateto (pan de Casares).

También hubo un guitarrista español, Pedro, que nos entretuvo durante toda la cena hasta que tuvimos el postre

de flan de turrón. Después del almuerzo, nos invitaron a unas copitas, magnífico final para un magnífico almuerzo a precio razonable.

No hay duda de que volveremos a hacer otra comida, donde nos trataron como familia e invitados y no como simples clientes. ¡ No puede mejorarse, Viva España!

La nueva alcaldesa delega las concejalías del Ayuntamiento La alcaldesa de Casares, Antonia Morera, ha sacado el decreto en el que delega las distintas competencias municipales.

Aunque los cambios no son grandes hay que señalar algunos importantes como que Antonia Morera ha delegado en el exalcalde, Juan Sánchez, dos concejalías, la de Hacienda y la de Relaciones Institucionales, esta última de nueva creación.

Pedro González vuelve a ser Concejal de Juventud y Deportes, área que deja Juan Luís Villalón. Y Sonia Saborido pasa a ser teniente de alcalde, que deja vacante Antonia Morera al convertirse en alcaldesa.

Por lo demás el resto de las competencias siguen igual: La alcaldesa continúa asumiendo las competencias en las áreas de Bienestar Social,

Personal, Seguridad Ciudadana, y de la Mujer.

Pedro González, además de delegado de Juventud y Deportes continúa como las delegaciones de Educación, Sanidad y Urbanismo. Y pasa a ser de primer teniente de alcalde.

Juan Luís Villalón, que deja Juventud y Deportes, continúa como concejal delegado del Secadero y de Comunicación.

Pepe Carrasco continúa con las delegaciones de Infraestructuras y Obras, Medio Ambiente y Viviendas, y es segundo teniente de alcalde.

Sonia Saborido, además de teniente de alcalde sigue siendo delegada de Fiestas, Cultura, Turismo, Desarrollo Local y Empleo.

Y Juan Jesús Rodríguez continúa

como concejal delegado de Costa.

Esta resolución será enviada al Boletín Oficial de la Provincia de Málaga para su publicación, se colgará en el tablón de anuncios del Ayuntamiento.

Asimismo, se dará cuenta de la misma en la próxima sesión del Pleno.

More than 70 members and guests of the Estepona Chapter of the American Club enjoyed a very authentic lunch at ‘Huerta el Pozo’, a typical rustic restaurant run by a long established old Casares family. The cava was served ‘al fresco’ on the terrace overlooking the scenic mountain pueblo of Casares, followed by an authentic home-cooked meal ‘comida casera’, by ‘la jefa de cocina’, Marie Cruz along with her husband Paco and other family members. The Iberico Pork dishes were cooked in an original wood-fired oven, served with ‘pan cateto’ a special Casares bread.

As well, there was a roving spanish guitarist, ‘Pedro’, who entertained throughout the lunch while we were served home made

‘flan de turron’ for dessert. After lunch we were treated to ‘copitas’ which was a great end to a day filled with ambience and good service at a truly good price!

No doubt we will be back for more of this fine dining, where we were treated more like family and guests, rather than just customers. It doesn’t get better than this - Viva Espana!

I Carrera Popular “Las Viñas” El domingo 24 de mayo se celebrará en Manilva la primera carrera popular “las viñas”.

Esta competición, organizado por la delegación de Deportes del Ayuntamiento de Manilva, tendrá un recorrido de 8 kilómetros con dos categorías diferenciadas; una masculina (mayores y menos de 35 años) y otra única femenina.

La salida será a las 10 de la mañana desde el campo de fútbol Las viñas de Manilva y tendrá un recorrido por el municipio, que se explicará en el citado lugar.

La inscripción será de 5 euros si es anticipada y antes del 21

de mayo y otra de 7 euros hasta media hora antes de la salida.

A todos los participantes se les entregará una bolsa de regalo con bebida isotónica, barrita energética, camiseta técnica y artículos de merchandising.

Los premios consistirán en 50 euros más 2 sesiones de spa para el primer clasificado y 2 sesiones de spa para el segundo.

I “Las Viñas” Road Race Manilva Town Hall’s sports department is organising an open road race on Sunday, 24th May. The 8 km race is open to various categories of runners: Under 35s, Over 35s and Women.

The race starts from the Las Viñas football ground in Manilva at 10 am with the route taking participants to various parts of the municipality before returning to the finishing line back at the football stadium.

Entrance is 5 euros before the 21st May or 7 euros up to half an before the start of the race.

All entrants will receive a competitor’s pack with an isotonic drink, energy bar, t-shirt and various gifts.

There is a first prize in each category of 50 euros plus 2 sessons at the Thalasso Spa La Duquesa Golf, with 2 spa sessions for second place.

Manilva plantea la creación de un plan estratégico en torno al viñedo como alternativa a la crisis La Fundación de Manilva para el Desarrollo, FUNMADES, ha celebrado un acto público consistente en la presentación del informe: ‘Presente y futuro del viñedo manilveño’, a cargo de Eugenio Sevillano y Juan Ramón Rubio, ingenieros agrónomos de la consultora SICA de Mollina.

La filosofía de esta iniciativa pasa por una gestión integral del paisaje vitícola, distinguiendo entre: El impulso y desarrollo de la viticultura y enología del término municipal manilveño desde parámetros de crecimiento económico, a través de la reestructuración del viñedo y la modernización de sus infraestructuras. La intención es sensibilizar de que la viña puede ser generadora de un complemento de renta para la economía familiar.

Las actuaciones iniciadas ya algunas de ellas, para poder hacer realidad estos objetivos son: Elaboración de un Estudio de Caracterización del Viñedo como punto de partida hacia políticas y estrategias futuras.

Creación de una Oficina Técnica

de Gestión de la Viña, cuyo objetivo será vertebrar todas las ayudas e iniciativas relacionadas con la reestructuración del viñedo, cuyo objetivo es hacer la explotación más rentable y competitiva, aunque pase por la introducción de nuevas variedades destinadas a la vinificación.

La Fundación presentará en la próxima convocatoria del Servicio Andaluz de Empleo una Escuela Taller dedicada exclusivamente a la viticultura, la enología y el eco-paisaje como turismo alternativo. Ésta es una iniciativa que se enmarca en las políticas activas de empleo ya que los alumnos, además de aprender una profesión, la alternan con el trabajo y la práctica reales.

La Fundación, desde el nuevo Centro de Formación, en vías de Homologación por la Junta de Andalucía, potenciará cursos dedicados a la viticultura, la enología y a la puesta en valor del patrimonio paisajístico y etnográfico vinculado a la viña.

La Fundación colabora con el Ayuntamiento en la iniciativa del Centro de Interpretación Viñas de Manilva, cuya

finalidad esencial será recuperar la memoria del viñedo como marca de identidad del territorio y de sus habitantes conjuntamente con el acervo cultural que se ha transmitido durante generaciones.

La Fundación trabaja, igualmente, en la elaboración de un inventario de elementos y bienes singulares del municipio vinculados a la tradición y cultura vitícola: lagares, prensas, pilas, alambiques, bodegas, emplazamientos con vistas panorámicas, etc. Todos ellos serán la base sobre la que se diseñen rutas de carácter vitivinícola.

La Fundación iniciará, próximamente, un archivo de la memoria vitícola manilveña, basado fundamentalmente en la digitalización de documentación y fotografías relacionadas con las viñas.

Finalmente, en una reunión provincial de Málaga, se ha declarado que el festival anual de la vendimia de Manilva que se celebra en el primer fin de semana de Septiembre es una celebración de importancia turística.

The Manilva development foundation FUNMADES, recently held a public meeting at which it presented a project studying the ‘Present and Future of Manilva’s Vineyards’.

The technical study, sponsored by the Caja Rural de Granada bank, was carried out by Eugenio Sevillano and Juan Ramón Rubio, agronomy engineers for the consultants SICA de Mollina.

Among those attending were a number of local grape growers who listened with interest as the problems facing the growers were outlined followed by a proposed strategy to develop Manilva’s vineyards into a viable industry.

Manilva’s vines are predominately the sweet Moscatel variety which are sold for the table, pressed into wine or dried to produce the raisins for which Malaga province is world famous.

Over recent years a large area of vines has either been lost to construction, or have become abandoned, and growers have found it increasingly difficult find people to work the vineyards, with the construction industry taking many workers away from

the fields.

The study states that to revive the industry would involve a restructuring of the vineyards and modernising of the infrastructure, along with a need to promote the brand identity of Manilva’s grapes and wines and a need to development the tourism angle.

The report recommends the creation of a technical management office to oversee the redevelopment of the vineyards, including the management of the funding available for this long term plan.

This restructuring would see the planting of new grape varieties in tune with modern tastes.

The study also proposes the founding of a Training Centre providing courses on viticulture, to turn out the professionals the industry would require. The aim is to convince local youngsters of the viability of a career in the vineyards.

An inventory is being compiled of existing equipment including presses, stills, etc., along with possible tourism attractions, a ‘wine route’. Once this is completed areas for investment

can be identified.

Work has also begun on a Grape and Wine Interpretation Centre, which is being constructed behind the council offices and police station in Manilva, one of the aims of this centre is to promote education and preserve the heritage of the municipality’s vineyards.

Finally, at a recent meeting, the provincial government in Malaga, has declared Manilva’s grape festival, the Vendimia, held anually on the first weekend of September as a celebration of particular touristic importance.

El Ayuntamiento recomienda el uso de los contenedores de recogida de vidrio La alcaldesa de Manilva, Antonia Muñoz, ha emitido un bando por el que se recomienda a los vecinos, especialmente a los comercios de hostelería ubicados en el puerto deportivo de La Duquesa y El Castillo, el uso de los contenedores para el reciclaje del vidrio.

Así, según apunta Muñoz, junto a la delegación de Limpieza que dirige el edil Antonio de Haro, se han realizado una serie de gestiones con la empresa

Urbaser para que se ubique en todo el término en general y en las zonas citadas en particular, una serie de contenedores para los residuos de vidrio.

Con esta medida, añade Antonia Muñoz, además de mejorar la imagen del municipio se contribuirá a ahorrar en el tonelaje que diariamente se traslada a la planta de residuos y con ello, el coste municipal de este servicio.

Bars and restaurants asked to recycle their bottles The Mayoress of Manilva, Antonia Muñoz, has issued a proclamation recommending that residents, particularly bar and restuarant owners, make use of the glass recycling containers when disposing of empty bottles.

To facilitate this, the town’s Cleansing Department has made arrangements

with the recycling management company Urbaser to provide adequate containers throughout the municipality.

With these measures it is hoped to improve the image of the area, and to reduce the amount of waste going into landfill sites in the area, as well as reducing the waste disposal cost to the local economy.

Nuevos cursos del sector turístico destinados a jóvenes desempleados El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha presentado el programa de los próximos cursos que se impartirán en el Ciomijas, entidad que surge como respuesta del Gobierno Andaluz al compromiso con el sector turístico de la Comunidad Autónoma, para crear un centro de referencia internacional en la formación turística, hostelera y del ocio.

Todos los interesados del municipio podrán inscribirse en las instalaciones de la Delegacion de Juventud y obtener una mayor información sobre los diferentes aspectos que se impartirán desde el próximo mes de septiembre en

las instalaciones del Ciomijas. El centro oferta a los solicitantes el poder alojarse en las propias instalaciones, para aquellos casos en los que se estudie por parte de la jefatura de estudios la necesidad de hospedaje de los interesados..

Los cursos previstos que comenzarán a partir de septiembre son los siguientes: Curso de Panadería y Pastelería (670 horas), Gestión hotelera (2325 horas) , Gestión en campos de golf (1090 horas), Gestión de alimentos y bebidas: especialidad cocina (2150 horas), Gestión de alimentos y bebidas especialidad sala (2150 horas), Recepcionista de hotel

La delegación de Medio Ambiente elabora una guía sobre la Puerta Verde de Estepona El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, ha presentado el proyecto Puerta Verde de la Junta de Andalucía, con el que se pretende conectar el medio rural con el medio urbano a través de un corredor verde que une la zona periurbana del municipio con el entorno de Sierra Bermeja, realizando una mejora paisajística del entorno, si bien está previsto que la vía se conecte en el futuro con otras localidades de la provincia.

La Puerta Verde de Estepona discurre por un trazado de seis kilómetros de vías pecuarias, que estará señalizado para potenciar actividades de ocio al aire libre, educación medioambiental y el uso de vehículos no motorizados para reducir la emisión de dióxido de carbono.

Además se ha repoblado parte de la masa arbórea de la zona y se han adecuado parte de las vías pecuarias para adaptarlas

II Estepona Literary Competition winners The winners have been announced of the II Estepona Literary Competition, held recently.

The competition, which invited entries from 14 to 30 year olds in 3 different categories, and carried a first prize in each discipline of 500€.

The winners in each category were: Poetry: José Alejandro Simón Partal with the work “Asientos Reservados”.

Story: Isabel Márquez Carrasco with “Arroyo Estepera.

Short Story: Noelia Parodi Piñero with “La Llamada”.

Feria Queens elected At a recent ceremony held at the Palacio de Congresos in Estepona, the Feria Queens and Dames for this years Summer Fair were elected.

Carmen Guerrero Gil and Laura Vera Guerrero were elected as the adult and junior queens respectively for the fair which will be held from the 7th to the 12th July this year.

Apertura del plazo de inscripciones en las Guarderías Municipales El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, informa que el lunes, 4 de mayo, se abrió el plazo de solicitud de plaza en las Escuelas Infantiles Municipales (Guarderías) para el curso 2009/10.

El período de petición de plaza permanecerá abierto hasta el 30 de junio, y las solicitudes se deberán recoger y entregar en la delegación municipal de Infancia y Educación, sita en Avda. San Lorenzo, de lunes a viernes, de 09:00 a 14:00 horas, o en la Tenencia de Alcaldía de Cancelada. .

En la actualidad son seis las Escuelas Infantiles Municipales, ubicadas en diferentes puntos

Estepona acogerá el quinto Certamen Nacional de Flauta Andalucía 2009 Un total de veintiséis jóvenes flautistas participarán en el quinto Certamen Nacional de Flauta Andalucía 2009 que se celebrará del 21 al 23 de mayo en Estepona.

El certamen, que nació en 2004, es la primera vez que se celebra fuera de la provincia de Jaén, y surge como un proyecto cultural único en Andalucía con el objetivo de crear un foro permanente donde los jóvenes flautistas puedan tener un encuentro de carácter periódico.

De los 26 inscritos, tres proceden de Venezuela y uno de Portugal, mientras que el resto son de trece provincias españolas y sólo uno de Málaga.

Durante el certamen, del que se celebrarán dos fases, una eliminatoria y otra final, habrá un pianista acompañante a disposición de los concursantes para la realización de las diferentes pruebas.

Habrá un premio de seiscientos euros y diploma en la modalidad B, hasta los 16 años, y segundo premio de trescientos euros y diploma, mientras que en la modalidad A, de 17 a 23 años, habrá un primer premio de 1.500 euros y diploma y un segundo de novecientos euros y diploma, según Díaz.

También se entregará un premio de trescientos euros, Premio Promesa, al intérprete que más destaque por la relación entre la edad y la calidad.

Estepona hosts V National Flute Contest of Andalucia A total of 26 young flautists will take part in the fifth National Flute Contest of Andalucia to be held from the 21st to 23rd of May in Estepona.

This is the first time that this unique cultural event, which began in 2004, has been held outside the Province of Jaen.

The objective of the competition is to create a permanent forum where young flautists can meet on a regular basis.

Of the 26 contestants, three are from Venezuela, and one from Portugal, with the rest from 13 Spanish provinces, including one from Malaga.

The competition, held over

two phases - an elimination round followed by the finals will involve various test pieces with a pianist available for accompaniment.

There are two groups: Group A - 17 to 23 year olds; and Group B - Under 17s.

For Group B there is a first prize of 600€, and a runners-up prize of 300€, Whilst in Group A there is a first prize of 1,500€ and a second of 900€.

There is also a prize of 300€ for the contestant showing the most promise and ability for their age. All prizewinners will also receive a diploma.

Enrolment begins for Estepona’s nursery schools Estepona’s education authorities have begun enrolment for the municipality’s nursery schools for the 2009/2010 school year.

The enrolment period is open until the 30th June and parents can sign up their children at the delegación municipal de Infancia y Educación (behind the tourist office) situated in Avenida San Lorenzo, from Monday to Friday between 9.00 am and 2.00 pm or in the Tenencia de Alcaldia in Cancelada.

San Isidro Labrador Estepona is unusual in that it has two patron saints. The Virgen del Carmen - patron saint of sailors and fishermen, celebrated on the 16th July and San Isidro Labrador - patron saint of agricultural workers, whose saint’s day is celebrated on the 15th May. This day is celebrated each year with a variety of events, many with an agricultural theme, and here is the programme for this year’s festivities.

Estepona bullfights Estepona’s Plaza de Toros will be staging a bullfight on Saturday, 16th May at 7 pm, in conjunction with the town’s San Isidro celebrations. This “Gran Novillada Picada” will feature some of the rising stars in the bullfighting world including: Ignacio González, from Córdoba, Jiménez Fortes, son of the famous Mari Fortes from Málaga, and Rafael Tejada, the

new star from Ronda, who will be fighting six bulls from the “Toros de la Plata” stable bred by Pedro Trapote.

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, a través de la delegación municipal de Cultura, informa que la Consejería de Cultura, a través de la Dirección General de Bienes Culturales, ha declarado como Zonas de Servidumbre Arqueológica un total de 42 espacios subacuáticos definidos en las aguas continentales e interiores de Andalucía, mar territorial y plataforma continental ribereña al territorio andaluz, entre los que se encuentra el Fondeadero del Cristo o El Padrón de Estepona, donde se presume fundadamente la existencia de restos arqueológicos de interés y, por lo tanto, se considera necesario adoptar medidas precautorias con las que evitar, entre otras amenazas, el expolio.

Se trata de la primera vez que en la comunidad andaluza se declara como Zona de

Servidumbre Arqueológica un espacio subacuático, lo que supone un importante paso en la defensa, protección y conservación del patrimonio histórico.

Con esta medida no sólo se pretende impedir actuaciones de expolio en el patrimonio sumergido, sino, además, proteger unos espacios de interés que guardan bajo el agua las claves para interpretar la historia.

Además, con esta declaración la Administración andaluza, tal y como recoge la Ley 14/2007 de Patrimonio Histórico de Andalucía, deberá autorizar cualquier actuación que se realice en los terrenos de estos espacios subacuáticos, lo que le permitirá inspeccionar en todo momento las obras y actuaciones que se lleven a cabo en estas zonas.

Junta declares an underwater archaeological zone off the coast of Estepona The regional authorities have declared an area just off the coast of Estepona as an Underwater Archaeological Protection Zone having identified a total of 42 underwater archaeological sites within the inshore waters, territorial waters and continental shelf off the coast of Andalucia.

The area includes the between Fondeadero del Cristo and El Padron, where it is assumed there will be many archaeological remains and therefore it is important to put in precautionary legislation to prevent the looting or damaging of these sites

before they can be identified and investigated.

This is the first Underwater Archaeological Protection zone to be created in Andalucia and is a vital step in the protection and preservation of the region’s rich historical heritage.

The declaration which enforces Law 14/2007 of Andalucian Historical Heritage Act means that any works, exploration or other actions in this protection zone must be authorised by the regional authorities, who have the right to monitor any activities undertaken in these areas.

Anglo Wine report 1¿Cuáles de estos vinos no proceden de la uva: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Chablis,o Verdejo? Bien, “Chablis” no es una uva si una región en Francia que se ha asociado al nombre con los vinos blancos Chardonnay que se produce en esa zona; ¡Chablis es al Chardonnay como la marca “Hoover” a la aspiradora!

Así pues ¿Cuál es la diferencia entre las variedades de las uvas arriba mencionadas, no tienen todas su aroma? Mi experiencia es que de diez personas que me dicen que los vinos Chardonnay son los mejores, otras diez me dicen que no le gustan y que prefieren Sauvignon Blanc. “Oh, me encanta el sabor suave de ¨Chardonnays, e igualmente no me gusta el sabor suave de los Chardonnay”. Lo que es cierto es que es una opinión personal, algo entre tú, tus sentidos y el líquido dorado o rojo en la copa. Puede ser un momento íntimo de concentración y contemplación, de una mezcla de sentidos con una pizca de sabor y color de miles de variedades e influencias de factores como la tierrna, los minerales, el tiempo, orientación del terreno, la utilización de técnicas modernas o tradicionales, o el tiempo que ha estado en el barril, o , puede ser Rosé frio y vinos rojos afrutados entre amigos en una barbacoa o cenando.

Well, ‘Chablis’ is not a grape but a region in France that has become synonymous with the white Chardonnay wines from that winemaking area; Chablis is to Chardonnay as Hoover is to vacuum cleaner!

So what is the difference between the above grape varieties, aren’t they all flowery on the nose, fruity and dry with a long crisp finish? In my experience, for every ten people who tell me Chardonnay whites are the best, another ten will tell me that they don’t like Chardonnay and prefer Sauvignon Blanc “Oh I love the rich butteryness of Chardonnays” and equally “Nah, I don’t like the rich butteryness of Chardonnays!” The bottom-of-the-bottleline is that there is probably no other product that is as subjective as wine, it is totally a personal thing, something between you, your senses and the golden or ruby liquid in the glass. It can be a private moment of concentration and contemplation, of blending your senses with the subtleties of flavour and colour borne out of thousands of variances and influences from factors such as soil, minerals, weather, land orientation, modern or traditional winemaking techniques, or how long the wine has rested in oak barrels, or, it can be a chilled Rosé or fruity young Red amongst friends at a BBQ or dinner.

XXII Semana de Cine Español Costa del Sol - Estepona The Town Hall of Estepona, has announced the programme of the “XXII Costa del Sol Festival of Spanish Cinema, Estepona, which will be celebrated from 18 to May 24.

‘Cinema Al Cole’: Launched last year by Estepona’s Education and Cultural departments, this initiative is part of the programme “Estepona, a sea of peace’ aimed a promoting audiovisual culture, which has proved a great success, with theory and practical courses being given at four secondary and two primary schools.

Some of the video shorts produced by these students will be screened on the 19th and 20th at 6.00 pm in the Padre Manuel Cultural Centre’s screening room.

Exhibition: El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, ha presentado el programa de la “XXII Semana de Cine Español Costa del Sol-Estepona”, cuya celebración tendrá lugar del 18 al 24 de mayo.

El Cine Al Cole:

Las delegaciones de Educación y Cultura pusieron en marcha el pasado año “El Cine al Cole”, una iniciativa incluida en el Programa Intercentros “Estepona, un mar de Paz”, destinada a fomentar la cultura audiovisual. El alcalde de Estepona, David Valadez, ha recibido en el despacho de Alcaldía a Johanna Mayrhofer, directora del “Proyecto Camino 2009”, llevado a cabo por la Asociación por los Derechos de los Animales Abandonados, ADANA, entidad que gestiona actualmente las instalaciones de la perrera municipal.

Dicho proyecto dio inicio el pasado 15 de marzo y finalizó la pasada semana, y ha consistido en una ruta a pie llevada a cabo por voluntarios de nueve nacionalidades acomapañados de perros, que ha unido Estepona con Santiago de Compostela, campo a través, mediante siete etapas de una semana cada una, a razón de unos 24 kilómetros diarios, sumando un total de 1.187 kilómetros. El objetivo de la marcha, que ha tenido por lema “Caminemos con ellos y por ellos”, ha consistido en fomentar el cariño y el respeto a los animales y concienciar

sobre los problemas relacionados con el maltrato animal y el abandono, a la vez que recaudar fondos con los que mantener las instalaciones de Adana.

El alcalde ha reconocido la labor que realiza ADANA en favor de los animales abandonados y ha felicitado a la asociación por la original iniciativa que ha permitido llevar el nombre de Estepona por todo el país y parte del extranjero. Además, ha anunciado,que la empresa Teconma finalizará en unos días las obras de acondicionamiento y mejora de la perrera municipal, sita en los Pedregales, cuyo presupuesto asciende a 232.619,96 euros, incluido el camino de acceso, la ampliación de la explanada del aparcamiento y la dotación de una autodepuradora de recogida de excrementos de los animales.

Official reception for dog charity walkers The Mayor of Estepona held an official reception for Adana representative, Johanna Mayrhofer, director of the charity’s “Project Camino 2009” to celebrate the completion of the 1200 km trek.

This mammoth walk began on the 15th of March when a group of volunteers from nine different nationalities set out, accompanied by dogs from Adana’s refuge, to undertake the 1,187 walk following the old pilgrim’s road to Santiago de Compostela. Under the slogan “walk with them, for them” the aim was to raise funding for the new refuge.

The ‘pilgrims’ finally completed the walk on

the 2nd of May when they entered the city of Santiago.

The Mayor acknowledged the valuable work carried out by the charity, and congratulated the walkers and their backup for this initiative which both raised awareness of the plight of abandoned dogs, and promoted the image of Estepona across Spain.

The Mayor also announced that refurbishment works on the existing refuge were almost complete. This project involved access road improvements, waste treatment facilities, etc., and cost some 233,000 euros.

Dr Ronald Rosenfeld D.V.M Heartworm and Prevention Heartworm or Dirofilariasis is a potentially fatal parasitic disease that primarily affects dogs, ferrets and cats very rarely also been affected, and is transmitted from an affected dog by the bite of a mosquito. The parasite is a roundworm, which as an adult lives in some of the blood vessels around the heart and in the heart itself. The mature female produces free-swimming larvae, which the mosquito picks up when it bites an affected animal.

This larva develops in the mosquito and in 2-3 weeks becomes infective for other dogs bitten by said mosquito. This larvae, back in a dog, travels through the blood stream to the heart where it matures and completes its life cycle.

This process takes about six months; one infested dog can be a reservoir for an entire neighbourhood, no breed is immune.

Your veterinarian would suspect this disease if you live and/or have travelled to a mosquito infested area and bring in your pet with some of the following symptoms: laboured breathing, coughing, tires easily, listless and/ or weight loss. These may be symptoms of other problems as well. The only definitive diagnosis is reached by a blood test that most veterinarians can carry out in their surgeries. If the test is positive, a treatment program should be initiated as soon as possible. Over 90% of

dogs treated for this disease survive. If the dog is negative or once an affected dog is cured preventative measures should be instituted.

This is one disease your dog may be affected by even if you do not live in an area identified as having heartworms, your pet could bring this home from a holiday or an outing to an affected area.

Presently, much research is being done with many phases of this disease. Up until only recently, within the last few years, the only preventative measure available was an oral medication, which had to be taken on a monthly basis. We now can offer an annual vaccination against this disease, which has its advantages here due to our climate and seasonality of the mosquito vector. By discussing this disease with your veterinarian and instituting the optimum preventative measures in your case, heartworm need not be a problem for you or threaten your pet.

Dog Radio Thailand has been started by a Thai businessman who runs a pet grooming academy that the dogs who came in seemed more at ease and happier when they listened to music! It has been demonstrated that cows

milk production increases when listening to classical music, particularly Beethoven and Mozart. This is not the music on the Thai station, however, which features local popular music and the founder of the station is considering having a DJ who talks to the animals, if this is to be the other Beethoven it has not been divulged!

This is not the pioneer in its field as in the United States there already exists Lucky Dog Radio and Dog Cat Radio. The latter of these has a programming schedule, which consists of tunes such as the Elvis Presley rendition of Hound Dog, as well as the advice to the listeners like don’t attack the Mailman and be careful not to chew things they shouldn’t. This is a bilingual station, due to the demographics of the majority of its listening audience, being based in Los Angeles, California so one hour a day is broadcast in Castellano. The programming is completed with information related to animals, their needs and events, as well as interviews with their owners. The idea came about in this case form the station director observing the relaxing, calming, and soothing effect of his cats to music.

Los parásitos en el corazón o Dirofilariasis es una enfermedad mortal causada por parásitos, principalmente afecta a los perros, aunque también se han dado casos, no muy frecuentes, en gatos y en hurones, es transmitida por un perro afectado debido a la picadura de un mosquito. El parásito es un gusano adulto que vive en las arterias del corazón y en el mismo corazón. Las hembras adultas producen larvas, las cuales los mosquitos las cogen cuando muerden un animal infectado. Esta larva se desarrolla en el mosquito, y en 2-3 semanas el mosquito al morder a otro animal, lo infecta. Esta larva en el perro, viaja a través del sistema circulatorio al corazón donde madura y completa el ciclo de vida. Este proceso lleva aproximadamente seis meses; un perro infectado puede servir de reserva a todo el vecindario, ninguna raza está inmune.

Su veterinario puede detectar la enfermedad si usted vive y/o ha viajado a una zona infectada por mosquitos y lleva su mascota con los siguientes síntomas: dificultad respiratoria, tos, cansancio, flacidez y pérdida de peso.

Otros problemas tienen también los mismos síntomas. El único diagnóstico definitivo es realizando una analítica de sangre, que la mayoría de los veterinarios pueden realizar en sus propias consultas.

Si el resultado es positivo, se debe de empezar tan pronto como sea posible

un tratamiento. Sobre el 90% de los perros tratados por esta enfermedad sobreviven. Si el perro da negativo o una vez que el perro afectado se haya curado, se deben tomar medidas preventivas.

Esta es una enfermedad que su perro puede verse afectado e incluso si no vive en una zona identificada como que hay este tipo de parásitos, su mascota puede traerlo a casa incluso de unas vacaciones o si ha ido a una zona afectada. Actualmente, se están llevando a cabo investigaciones en muchas fases de esta enfermedad. Hasta ahora y recientemente, en los últimos años, la única medida preventiva disponible era una medicación por vía oral que se debía administrar mensualmente. En la actualidad podemos administrar una vacuna anual contra esta enfermedad, lo cual es una gran ventaja sobre todo aquí, debido al clima y a la temporada de mosquitos. Hablando sobre esta enfermedad con su veterinario y tomando unas medidas de prevención en su caso, estos parásitos no deben de ser un problema ni para usted ni para su mascota.

Mensajes mediáticos Hay algo nuevo en internet para cuando usted deje solo en casa a su perro. La Radio para perros de Tailandia, dirigida por un hombre de negocios Tailandés que tiene una academia de peluquería para mascotas, dice que los perros

se encuentran más felices cuando escuchan música. Se ha demostrado que las vacas lecheras producen más leches cuando escuchan música clásica, particularmente ¡Beethoven y Mozart!

Esta no es la música que se suele escuchar en la radio de Tailandia, pero lo que llama la atención es tener un DJ que habla a los animales, ¡si ésto no es ser el otro Beethoven es que no ha sido divulgado aún!

Este no ha sido el pionero en este campo, ya que en Estados Unidos ya existía “La Radio del perro afortunado” y “La Radio del gato afortunado”. Lo último ha sido un programa, que consiste en radiar música de por ejemplo Elvis Presley con su canción “Hound Dog”, con el mensaje de que no ataquen al cartero y de que tengan cuidado y no muerdan nada que no deberían. Esta estación de radio de los Ángeles (California) es bilingüe, debido a la audiencia que la escucha, una hora al día se transmite en Castellano. El programa se completa con información relacionada con animales, sus necesidades y eventos, al igual que se le hace entrevistas a sus propietarios. La idea le vino al director de esta estación de radio que comprobó lo tranquilo y relajado que se quedaban sus gatos al escuchar música.

Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva Age Concern at the International Day, Estepona Age Concern ran two popular stalls at The International/Foreign Residents Day held at the Palacio de Congresos, Estepona on the 26th April. Thanks to the hard work of volunteers and friends 600€ were raised from the sale of sandwiches, cakes, teas, coffees and items of clothing and brica-brac from the charity shop in Calle Zaragoza, Estepona. Pan Inglés once again were generous in their donation of bread, as were the many people who spent a happy few hours baking before the day.

Every cent raised goes towards assisting the volunteers who work in the community with older people – as the case load grows so the demand for funds increases. Thanks to all who helped make this event such a

great success.

Sponsored Walk – 19th April Thanks to the intrepid walkers who came along nearly 1000€ were raised at the walk held along the Paseo Maritimo, Estepona on Sunday 19th April. The start of the walk was overshadowed by inclement weather but the sun soon shone and those who took part enjoyed the Sunday morning stroll. Thanks go to them and the organisers for helping to raise much needed funds to support the work of our volunteers working with elderly people in the community. As the case load grows so does the expense of running the charity – your support is very much appreciated.

Cudeca Cudeca Walkathon 2009 Another year on, and the time has come to celebrate the Cudeca Walkathon 2009. It will be held on the 24th May, as always, on the beach by the Sunset Beach Club promenade, offering participants three alternative routes to choose from: a 10km walk for the fittest, a 5km walk for those who like to stroll and an especially adapted 2km route for wheelchair participants.

The event will commence at 09.30

and the entrance fee will be 10€ for pre-paid entrance and 12€ on the day and 6€ for children.

The objective is for participants to raise funds via individual sponsorship, by encouraging friends to give an amount for every kilometre walked. Los visitantes deben dirigirse primero al Convento en Calle Convento, donde podrán recoger un mapa indicando la localización de los estudios y ver ejemplos de los trabajos del artista. Para dirigirse hacia la Calle Convento, gire a la derecha al entrar en Gaucín desde la carretera de Manilva.

Sin embargo, ésto no es una exposición sino puertas abiertas de estudios. El objetivo es visitar los estudios de los artistas donde están colgados sus trabajos o apoyados en la pared e incluso algunos de los trabajos están sin terminar.

Art Gaucin Open Studio Weekends On the last two weekends of May, the 23/24 and 30/31, sixteen Gaucin artists will again be throwing open the doors of their houses and studios and inviting people to see their work. Studios will be open all day from 11am to 7 pm. Visitors should first go to the Convent in Calle Convento, Gaucin, where they can get a map showing studio locations and see examples of the artist’s work.

For Calle Convento turn right on entering Gaucin from Manilva.

However, this is not an exhibition,

but Open Studios, or art trail as it is sometime called, and the point is to visit the artists’ studios where work may be hung on the wall or stacked against it, and some works may be the process of completion. Many people enjoy being able to visit the artists’ houses, which gives a different dimension to a visit to Gaucin. It is also an opportunity to chat to the artists.

El presupuesto superior a los 60 millones de euros contempla la construcción de un túnel de un kilómetro para eliminar las

largas caravanas causadas y sufridas durante años.

El Ayuntamiento marbellí ha solicitado al Ministerio de Fomento que libere el peaje de la AP-7 durante los trabajos de soterramiento, ya que hay precedentes de liberación de autopistas en otras partes de España, con el mismo caso y no se entendería una nueva negativa.

Construction of the tunnel taking the San Pedro stretch of the A7 coast road underground has finally got underway in earnest.

After lengthy preparatory works to put in place viable diversions, the road has been cut for traffic in the Malaga direction, with all vehicles being diverted onto the southern ring road. Estepona bound traffic will join them in the middle of June.

The 60 million euro project

involves service roads and a kilometre long tunnel avoiding the junctions in the town which have been a bottleneck and caused driver misery for years.

An application by the municipal authorities to the Development Ministry for a moratorium on tolls on the AP-7 motorway has been refused, even though this has been granted in other parts of Spain.

Receiving Health Care in Spain

In this months article, I shall deal with the forms and procedures required for both UK visitors and residents of Spain to receive state health care.

As the UK is in the EU, there is a reciprocal agreement with Spain and other EU member states to provide medical cover for UK nationals, depending on the individual circumstance. However, an anomaly currently exists, as apparently the Department of Health (DH) say if you are out of the country for more than three months of the year you are no longer considered resident in the UK, while Spain go by the more logical timescale of over six months of the year. In truth, so many individuals are traveling to and from Europe for varying periods of time, it is very difficult for both the Spanish or the British offices to keep track, and many individuals who have a residencia in Spain remain on the DH records in the UK because they have never officially ‘de-registered’ by notifying their health centre or the DH. Before we get too lost in the red tape surrounding health care, suffice to say there are four main categories for a UK national to use the Spanish national health services: A) holidaymakers and people spending occasional periods of time in Spain; B) pensioners; C) people of non-retirement age living in Spain who are unable to work and D) people intending to live and work legally in Spain, or who have taken early retirement.

A) If you are a visitor to Spain (and this applies to anyone who has not applied for residencia, nor has a work contract, nor is self employed), you can apply for a EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), which entitles you to routine medical treatment.

The EHIC is usually issued for a period of 3 to 5 years, thereafter you will be expected to make provision for medical cover in the country where you are living. You can apply for an EHIC either on line by phone or by post. If you do need to visit a doctor or hospital, you should present the EHIC to them as soon as possible. The EHIC has replaced the E111, you can however use a valid E111 until it’s expiry date. The EHIC is issued by the Prescription Pricing Authority (PPA) and is free of charge.

B) If you are of pensionable age, and

intend to live in Spain. you can contact the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and request a form E121. This is applicable for British men over 65 years old and women over 60 years old. It provides permanent health cover and does not need to be renewed. To get a refund, you must make a claim to the “Instituto Nacional de Seguridad Social” (INSS) you are not covered for healthcare until your form E121 has been registered at the local sickness insurance office. You will be issued with a temporary health card, and in due course, will receive a permanent card and letter confirming the details of your designated doctor and clinic.

C) If you are unable to work, and claim incapacity benefit, you may also apply for a form E121, regardless of your age.

D) If you decide to take early retirement, or wish to receive medical cover while you are finding work in Spain, you may apply for a form E106. Please note you are only eligible for this form if you have been working and/or paying in to the UK system for the last three years. The E106 provides temporary cover, usually for two years: thereafter you will not be able to request an extension. In all other cases, you will be expected to provide your own medical cover, either through private health insurance or by working within the system. With an E106, you do not receive a medical card; you take your El06 form to your local state health centre/doctor in the same manner as an EHIC/ E111.

Please note that private doctors, clinics and hospitals do not accept any of the European (E) health care forms. It is also important to note that the E121 and El06 forms are regarded as permanent: in other words, you will be transferring your health provision from the UK to Spain. This means that you will still be eligible for cover in the UK, but as a visitor. Should you decide to return to live in the UK, you should contact the DWP and ask them to re-register you on the British health system.

Día Internacional de los Museos con jornada de puertas abiertas El Ayuntamiento de Estepona informa que como cada 18 de mayo, se celebra el Día Internacional de los Museos, iniciativa convocada por el Consejo Internacional de los Museos (ICOM), una asociación sin ánimo de lucro vinculada a la UNESCO. El Día Internacional de los Museos se viene celebrando en todo el mundo desde 1977, y cada año se decide un tema central. Este año, se celebra bajo el lema “Museos y patrimonio universal”.

La delegación municipal de Cultura y Patrimonio Histórico ha organizado un “Día de Puertas Abiertas”, con visitas guiadas a todos los Museos, ubicados en la Plaza de Toros, y el Centro de Interpretación de la Necrópolis Megalítica de Corominas.

Museo Paleontológico: inaugurado en diciembre de 2000, está considerado como único en la provincia de Málaga sobre Historia Natural, y constituye una referencia en Europa por presentar la colección de moluscos marinos del Plioceno (5 a 3 millones de años A.P.) de las cuencas de Málaga, Vélez y Estepona, que constituye una colección científica de referencia.

Museo Etnográfico o de Aperos: su propósito principal es mostrar y difundir la forma de vida, costumbres, economía y demás aspectos de la vida de los habitantes de la comarca de Estepona en los últimos siglos. Cuenta con una importante exposición de más de 2000 objetos de interés etnográfico.

Museo Taurino “Antonio Ordóñez”: se pueden admirar multitud de objetos relacionados con la fiesta de los toros, tales como fotografías de importantes toreros de todas las épocas, cabezas de toros lidiados en tardes memorables, fotos de escenas en la plaza que pasaron a la historia, hierros y divisas de las ganaderías españolas y portuguesas, una completa colección de cartelería taurina y, sobre todo, diversos trajes de luces donados por los mejores toreros de España.

Museo de Imagen y Sonido “Luis García Berlanga”: inaugurado en 2004, durante la XVII Semana de Cine Español de Estepona, el Museo rinde homenaje a Luis Garcia Berlanga, uno de los directores más importantes de la historia del cine español.

International Museum Day In celebration of UNESCO’s International Day of the Museum, Estepona will be throwing open the doors of its museum to visitors free of charge.

This includes the following exhibitions: Palaeontology Museum: Inaugurated in 2000 this collection includes one of the most important collections of marine moluscs in Europe as well as a display of Patagonian dinosaurs from South America.

Ethnology Museum: This museum documents the day to day history of Estepona and its people, including agricultural, marina, mechanical and domestic exhibits.

Bullfighting museum: Regardless of your attitude to bullfighting, this is a fascinating collection of exhibits, posters and photos, including costumes, and an impressive array of mounted bulls heads gazing down at you from the walls.

Museum of Sound and Image: A tribute to television, music and the cinema with items including ancient projectors, film posters and a collection of music memorabilia.

These museums can all be found at the Estepona Bullring and are open from 10 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 6 pm.

You can also visit the Corominas Stone Age Necropolis Centre situated at Los Pedregales park.

The 5,000 year old Corominas necropolis was discovered during the building of the A7 toll motorway and the remains were removed to a specially designed underground visitor centre designed to give the public an insight into stone age burial practices.

XI Circuito Provincial de Bicicleta XI Provincial Mountain Bike Circuit de Montaña - Maratón BTT Villa de - Estepona Marathon BTT Estepona El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, a través de la delegación municipal de Deportes, informa que el próximo 31 de mayo tendrá lugar la celebración de la Maratón BTT “Villa de Estepona” 2009, puntuable para el XI Circuito Provincial de Bicicleta de Montaña de Málaga.

Esta tercera cita dentro del calendario de competiciones llegará a la mediación de la presente temporada. Los dos encuentros previos están previstos en Alhaurín El Grande y Ojén, mientras que los últimos se disputarán en Coín y Álora.

El Maratón BTT “Villa de Estepona” 2009 está organizado por la Diputación Provincial de Málaga y el Ayuntamiento de Estepona, en colaboración con el Club Radikal Bike de Estepona y la concurrencia de la Federación Andaluza de Ciclismo.

Tras varias ediciones celebradas

en la provincia a nivel de rally´s, los organizadores decidieron la pasada temporada dar el salto a la organización de un calendario de encuentros más amplio. Así, el trayecto a realizar por los participantes está estimado en 60 kilómetros, siendo la distancia mínima impuesta por la Federación, para la validez del encuentro, en 42 km. para cualquier prueba de tipo BTT maratón.

La salida tendrá lugar a las 09:30 horas, de manera neutralizada, y se recorrerá desde el polideportivo El Carmen hasta la zona del Camino de Nicola, unos 9 kilómetros. Desde ese lugar se iniciará el tramo competitivo en la zona denominada “Cortijo de Nicola”.

El recorrido trascurrirá por los parajes de la Sierra Bermeja y la entrega de trofeos está prevista para las 15:00 horas, aproximadamente.

Estepona’s sports department has announced that the next stage of the XI Provincial Mountain Bike Circuit will be held in Estepona on Sunday 31st May. This stage has been organised

by Malaga Provincial Council and Estepona Town Hall’s Sports Department, in collaboration with the Radikal Bike Club of Estepona and the Andalucian Cycling Federation, and will cover some 60 kilometres of varied terrain (the minimum required is 42 km) and will put the contestants through their paces. The riders will set out from the El Carmen Sports Centre at 9.30 am heading for the “Cortijo de Nicola” and the Camino de Nicola area. The riders will return via the Sierra Bermeja with the prizegiving scheduled for around 3.00 pm This is the third leg, the previous two being held in Alhaurin El Grande and Ojén, with the next stages being held in Coín and Álora.
