EDITORIAL Bienvenidos a la primera edición de este Nuevo año 2012 de nuestro periódico The Resident. Habiendo sobrevivido durante todo el año pasado, estoy seguro de que podemos enfrentarnos a cualquier reto que pueda posiblemente aparecer, y estoy seguro de que muchos de vosotros os sentiréis igual –este año pasado creo que nos ha hecho emocionalmente más fuerte, esto lo digo con sentido optimista y con optimismo nos enfrentaremos a este año, se presente como se presente.

En este momento los representantes de los ayuntamientos y empresas turísticas locales están de nuevo ocupados en Fitur en Madrid, donde estarán intentando traer nuevos inversores a la zona. Les deseamos todo el éxito y esperamos dar todas las noticias positivas de todos sus logros en la próxima edición del periódico.

Cambiando de tema, nuestra empresa Manilva Media Workshop SLL está trabajando actualmente en un sistema integrado de información para los

visitantes y residentes que emplean la última tecnología, que nos dará a conocer en las próximas semanas, en la edición de febrero habrá más noticias sobrte ésto.

Hablando de tecnología, debido a circunstancias fuera de nuestro control, hemos tenido que mover nuestro sitio web de nuevo al dominio original www. theresident.eu. Esperamos reanudar el servicio completo para el final de este mes. Nos disculpamos por cualquier inconveniente causado.

Quería comentar sobre cómo el invierno parece haberse quedado dormido, pero la última vez que lo hice, llovió durante casi cuatro meses. Así, voy a disfrutar del buen tiempo en silencio.

Having made it through last year I feel like we can take on any challenge that could possibly be thrown at us, and I’m sure many of you will be feeling the same – character forming as it is euphemistically known.

Still, it is with a sense of optimism that we face the coming year despite the fact that it will undoubtedly be a tough one.

As we go to press representatives from the local councils and tourism industry are busy at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid, where they will out to attract investment and visitors into the area. We wish them every success and hopefully we will be able to report on their achievements in next month’s issue.

El presidente de la Junta de Andalucía, Los taxistas acuerdan unirse en una sola asociación el día antes de la puesta en José Antonio Griñán, inaugura el funcionamiento de la nueva parada de la Museo Municipal de San Roque Alameda

Los taxistas de San Roque, que ayer por la tarde mantuvieron una asamblea, han decidido unirse en un solo colectivo, tal y como se les pedía desde el Ayuntamiento, que se ha comprometido a ayudar en la puesta en marcha de un teléfono único para llevar el servicio en todo el municipio. En un principio, la reunión tenía el objetivo de dar a conocer un novedoso sistema de gestión de flotas y de anunciar la puesta en marcha, hoy miércoles, de la nueva parada situada en la Avenida del Ejército (junto al escenario de la Alameda Alfonso XI).

El presidente de la Junta de Andalucía, José Antonio Griñán, ha inaugurado esta mañana el nuevo Museo Municipal de San Roque situado en la calle San Felipe. Al acto ha acudido casi la práctica totalidad de la Corporación Municipal sanroqueña.

Tras el corte de la cinta inaugural, el presidente de la Junta de Andalucía ha realizado un recorrido por las nuevas instalaciones del museo, en los que se han invertido 38 mil euros. El próximo paso es trabajar para incluir al Museo Municipal de San Roque en la Red de

Museos de Andalucía. El Museo cuenta con un contenido, principalmente, dedicado a Carteia aunque también incluye numerosos documentos históricos y objetos relativos a los más de 300 años de historia de la Ciudad de San Roque.

Han pasado varios años de largo trabajo desde que se inició el proyecto para contar con estas instalaciones. En los próximos días se van a realizar unas jornadas de puertas abiertas en el Museo Municipal de San Roque destinadas a diversos colectivos sociales y culturales.

Casares sigue ganando población Casares ha crecido en los últimos 5 años casi un 20%, resultando en 1.100 personas más. De ellos, 300 habitantes se han sumado en 2011, con lo que nuestro término municipal cuenta con 5.655 habitantes según el padrón de diciembre de 2011.

Por núcleos urbanos es la Costa Casareña el que más ha crecido en los últimos 5 años llegando a doblar su población con 937 personas más. Actualmente residen en el litoral 1.884 vecinos, 250 más que 2010.

El Secadero es el núcleo con menor población. Cuenta con 1.124 residentes, 175 vecinos más en 5 años.

El casco histórico es quien concentra un mayor número de habitantes, 2.065, una población que se mantiene prácticamente igual que en 2006. El

diseminado alrededor del casco histórico cuenta con 582 vecinos.

Más de una tercera parte de los residentes del municipio son extranjeros, concretamente el 36,5%, 2.066 vecinos de más de 50 nacionalidades distintas.

Entre los extranjeros, la comunidad que tiene más peso, con diferencia, es la Británica que supone más de la mitad de los habitantes de otro país, un total de 1.175 personas. Le siguen muy por detrás, 104 rumanos, 93 marroquíes y 77 alemanes.

El número de nacimientos y defunciones se mantiene prácticamente el mismo en 5 años, siendo casi el doble el de nacidos que el de fallecidos. En Casares nacieron 51 niños en 2011. 58 fueron en 2010 y 56 en 2006. Las defunciones fueron 27 en 2011, 26 en 2010 y 30 en 2006.

Among the foreign community the one with more weight, by far, is the British which accounts for more than half of foreign inhabitants, a total of 1,175 people.

Far behind are the 104 Romanians, 93 Moroccans and 77 Germans.

The number of births and deaths has remained virtually the same in 5 years, with almost double that of births than deaths. 51 children were born in Casares in 2011. 58 were born in 2010 and 56 in 2006. There were 27 deaths in 2011, 26 in 2010 and 30 in 2006.

La ayuda concedida al Ayuntamiento, 300.000 euros, supondrá la financiación

de un 55% del total del proyecto que tiene un presupuesto de 541.000 euros.

El nuevo edificio estaría ubicado en las inmediaciones del Colegio Blas Infante, y supondrá una modernización de las instalaciones actuales. Contará con diferentes zonas divididas por edades: de 0 a 1 años, de 1 a 2 años y de 2 a 3 años para atender las necesidades de los pequeños usuarios, más tranquila para los pequeños y con zonas de juego para los más grandes.

The Town Hall obtains financing for the construction of a new nursery The Casares Town Hall has obtained financing from the Conserjería de Educación for the construction of the new municipal nursery in Casares, facilities needed to cope with a higher number of families demanding spaces.

The financial help given to the Town Hall, 300.000 euros, will pay for 55% of the total cost of the project, around 541.000 euros.

The new building will be located in the area around the Blas Infante School, and will include the modernisation of the current facilities. It will consist of different areas divided according to age: 0 to 1 years, 1 to 2 years and 2 to 3 years to fulfill the needs of the young children, a more relaxing environment for the youngest children and a play area for toddlers.

Casares recibirá 192.824 euros menos en el Plan de Concertación 2012 La alcaldesa de Casares, Antonia Morera, participó ayer en un acto público para denunciar el recorte del 40% en el Plan de Financiación.

Para el pueblo de Casares este recorte supondrá que dejará de recibir este año 192.824 euros, y eso cuando el Consistorio, como es su obligación, ya tiene repartido como va a gastar cada céntimo de la cuantía que le correspondía

del Plan de Concertación 2012, que eran 474.703,18 euros, y que ahora se va a quedar en 281.878,75 euros.

La alcaldesa de Casares ha dicho que estos recortes tendrán consecuencias negativas para toda la gestión municipal ya que a través del Plan de Concertación se financian obras, servicios municipales, actividades culturales, deportivas y sociales.

Delito medio ambiental en la zona del Río Manilva

Hacienda comunica la apertura del plazo para solicitar el fraccionamiento del IBI

La Delegación de Medio Ambiente del Ayuntamiento de Manilva tuvo conocimiento el pasado fin de semana de la existencia de un delito medio ambiental grave, en la zona del río Manilva, por ese motivo, de inmediato se procedió a una visita de inspección y a dar parte, tanto a la Policía Local como al SEPRONA de los hechos detectados.

Los hechos consisten en el vertido de un considerable número de neumáticos de todo tipo al cauce del río Manilva.

A partir del 1 de Enero de 2012 quedará abierto el plazo para solicitar el fraccionamiento del IBI siguiendo el acuerdo alcanzado por la concejalía de Economía y Hacienda del Ayuntamiento de Manilva y el Patronato de Recaudación Provincial de Málaga.

Este plazo permanecerá abierto hasta el 31 de enero.

Según ha explicado el concejal delegado de Hacienda, Marcos Ruiz, este plazo es el único posible para poder pagar el Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles correspondiente al ejercicio 2012 de forma fraccionada, ya que de no solicitarlo ahora se deberá abonar la cuota íntegramente en la fecha en la que se emita el correspondiente recibo.

Además también se podrá incluir el pago fraccionado del Impuesto de Vehículos de Tracción Mecánica (IVTM) y el Impuesto de Actividades Económicas (IAE).

No obstante, añade el edil, los vecinos que ya disfruten de este pago fraccionado

Son reincidentes, ya que hace solo algo más de una semana se produjo unos hechos similares en la zona del camino de Peñoncillo Por este motivo se ha instado a la Policia Local y al SEPRONA a que investigue los hechos.

Este tipo de delitos está penado con altas sanciones de tipo económico e incluso se puede aplicar penas de privación de libertad, dadas las gravísimas consecuencias que ocasionar estos hechos para el medio ambiente.

Los requisitos básicos para poder acogerse a cualquiera de esos fraccionamientos son que debe solicitarse expresamente por el contribuyente antes del 31 de enero de 2012 y los pagos deben estar domiciliados en una entidad bancaria. Ruiz ha informado que este fraccionamiento no supondrá para el contribuyente ningún tipo de recargo o interés.

Fly tipping in the Manilva river area Manilva town hall’s environmental department was alerted to a serious environmental crime last weekend, in the Rio Manilva area, and as such proceded to visit the area to inspect it and inform both the local police force and SEPRONA, the Guardia Civil’s environmental division, of its findings.

They found that a considerable number of tyres of all types had been dumped

into the river. This is a recurring problem as just over a week ago the same crime was comitted in the Camino del Peñoncillo area, leading to an investigation currently being carried out by the local police and SEPRONA. This type of crime is heavily penalised with fines and in some cases even imprisonment due to the seriousness of the environmental consequences.

From January 1, 2012, property owners in Manilva can apply to pay their IBI property tax in instalments thanks to an agreement between Manilva’s Finance Department and the Patronato de Recaudación Provincial de Málaga revenue collection agency. The application period will close on January 31.

The Councillor for Finance, Marcos Ruiz, explained that this facility is only available for the 2012 taxes and cannot be applied to IBI bills already issued. The instalment scheme also applies to the Impuesto de Vehículos de Tracción Mecánica (IVTM) vehicle tax and Impuesto de Actividades Económicas (IAE) business tax.

If you are already paying your taxes in instalments there is no need to re-apply as it will continue automatically, those wishing to take up this facility can pay as follows: a) In two payments, one in April, the second in October. b) In three payments: April, July and October. c) In nine monthly payments from March to November.

The requirements for this payment scheme are that the application is received before January 31 and that payments are paid by standing order at one of the approved banks.

The councillor pointed out that there are no fees or interest charges levied on this scheme.

Died 24th December 2012

After a short but painful illness, Eddy Shelton aged 73 passed away on Christmas Eve. Eddy will be remembered by those who knew and loved him, as an avid golfer who played regularly at the local Doña Julia Golf Club. Eddy loved all sports, but did not actually begin playing golf until into his 50s. He took to the game as he did with all sports, with great enthusiasm, and was soon considered to be an extremely good player. He entered many golf tournaments, as will be evidenced by the many golfing trophies and prizes that he won over the years. Eddy was a very fun loving character who always loved to be the centre of attention and was ironically so on Christmas morning when he was buried in Guadiaro Cemetery. His burial was attended by his son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Cindy Shelton, and the many friends and neighbours of Torreguadiaro, where Eddy had lived since moving to Spain in 1983.

Unfortunately, Eddy’s family from the UK were unable to attend his funeral at such short notice, but along with the many floral tributes that he received, including one from Dona Julia Golf Club, was one from his surviving family, his sisters, Audrey, Norma, Pat and Mavis. Sadly Mavis has since recently passed away.

El equipo de gobierno concede la licencia de obras para Monte Viñas

Ganadores del Concurso de Escaparates Navideños Monte Viñas marzo 2010

Los responsables del equipo de gobierno han mantenido un consejo de la Gerencia de Urbanismo en la que se ha otorgado licencia de obras a la urbanización Monte Viñas, que a partir de primeros del año próximo acometerá los trabajos de reparación de los daños ocurridos tras el temporal de 2008, llegando incluso a ser desalojada en 2010.

En este sentido, cabe recordar que el pasado mes de septiembre se conocía que el Consorcio de Compensación de seguros sufragará los costes que supondrá la reconstrucción de la urbanización Monte Viñas de Manilva.

El deslizamiento del terreno, debido a los fuertes temporales de lluvia registrados aquel invierno, destrozó el vial de acceso a la urbanización y

provocaron importantes grietas en una docena de viviendas cuyas familias llevan desalojadas más de 20 meses.

Los trabajos supondrán el desembolso de más de 1 millón de euros y consistirán en la instalación de una barrera de pilotes de 20 metros de profundidad para fijar el terreno, así como en la reconstrucción del vial, la restitución de los servicios de suministro de luz, agua y saneamiento y la reparación de los desperfectos sufridos en las viviendas.

El plazo de ejecución estimado de estas obras oscila entre los 6 y los 9 meses.

Las autoridades locales han señalado que aunque este asunto se ha resuelto satisfactoriamente debería servir como una grave lección para las empresas constructoras de la zona.

1º - Blue Marine

Local authorities approve licence for reconstruction at Monte Viñas Planning permission has been granted for a programme of reconstruction works to the Monte Viñas urbanisation following the agreement last September by the Insurance Compensation Consortium to cover these reconstruction costs.

This follows two landslides, the first in 2008 and the second during the heavy rains of winter 2010 which resulted in heavy damage to buildings and infrastructure within the urbanisation, and resulted in some 12 properties being declared dangerous and their occupants have had to find alternative accommodation for

some 20 months.

The works, which will begin early 2012, will involve the installation of a barrier of 20m deep pilings, along with road reconstruction, repairs to electricity, water and sanitation services, and repairs to housing.

It is expected to take between six and nine months to complete the reconstruction at a cost of over 1 million euros.

The local authorities have stated that, despite the satisfactory outcome of this issue it should serve as a serious lesson to developers and builders in this area.

El alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, ha comenzado a establecer la hoja de ruta para poner en marcha el proyecto del gran bulevar. Ya se han establecido varias reuniones con el personal técnico municipal para avanzar en los trámites urbanísticos necesarios para poner en marcha esta iniciativa. Este proyecto contempla la creación de

un gran bulevar que discurra desde el paseo marítimo -entre las avenidas San Lorenzo y Juan Carlos I- hasta la zona del Parque Central, de tal forma que se convierta en un eje vertebrador de la ciudad que una el casco antiguo de Estepona con los nuevos barrios.

Este bulevar acogerá además la construcción de un edificio que albergue el nuevo Ayuntamiento, de tal forma que todas las áreas municipales queden reagrupadas en unas únicas instalaciones.

The Council has begun to prepare the way for the grand boulevard project The Mayor of Estepona, Jose Maria Garcia Urbano, has begun to establish the roadmap for the grand boulevard project.

Several meetings with municipal staff have been carried out to advance the paperwork necessary to start this initiative. The mayor is confident that the paperwork will be completed by the end of this month.

This project involves the creation of a grand

boulevard that runs from the waterfront, between Avenida San Lorenzo and Juan Carlos I, to the Central Park area, so it becomes a vertebrae linking the older part of the city with the newer districts.

This boulevard will also accomodate the construction of a building to house the new Town Hall, so that all municipal areas end up regrouped into a single facility.

Los Carteles de Picasso La Delegación de Cultura presenta una Exposición en la que se muestran 55 carteles realizados por el propio Pablo Picasso para sus exposiciones.

La muestra, organizada por la Diputación de Málaga, estará abierta en la Casa de la Juventud de la Plaza de las Flores de Estepona del 28 de enero al 18 de marzo de 2012.

Recoge ejemplares realizados por el pintor, la mayoría para exposiciones de su obra. Esta disciplina artística es la menos conocida de su extensa obra, en la que destaca más la pintura, la cerámica y la escultura, por lo que la institución provincial ha querido ofrecer una mirada original y novedosa sobre el artista malagueño.

Entre las técnicas utilizadas destaca

el linograbado, un procedimiento en relieve que se trabaja sobre una plancha de linóleum, que por su densidad admite un trabajo con la gubia y la cuchilla que permite al artista la obtención de detalles bastante finos. Motivado por la facilidad con la que puede trabajar, el artista idea un procedimiento de impresión a varios colores a partir de una sola plancha (plancha perdida) que será conocido por los especialistas como ‘método Picasso’.

Esta actividad se enmarca en el proyecto ‘Picasso 20 miradas’ compartido con el Ayuntamiento de Málaga, la Universidad de Málaga y la Junta de Andalucía, en el que las entidades se comprometieron a divulgar entre todos los malagueños la numerosa obra de este artista.

Picasso’s Posters The Department of Culture presents an exhibition of 55 posters by Pablo Picasso produced by himself for his exhibitions.

The exhibition, organized by the Deputation of Malaga, will be open at the Casa de la Juventud in the Plaza de las Flores in Estepona from 28 January to 18 March 2012.

It is a collection of works by the painter, mostly for exhibitions. This art form is the least known of his extensive work, with greater emphasis on painting, ceramics and sculpture, leading the municipality to offer an original and innovative view of the artist from Malaga.

Among the various techniques used, the linocut stands out, a procedure carried out on a sheet of linoleum, with a high density that allows the gouge and blade to be used producing very fine details. Motivated by the ease with which he was able to work, the artist came up with a printing process in different colors using a single plate which later came to be known by specialists as

Salvador Gómez Mena nació en Estepona el 19 de febrero de 1970. Sus primeros trabajos literarios vinieron de la mano de la poesía, con la publicación de los libros editados por VisionLibros 'Corazones del Alba' (2004) y 'El sueño de los peces' (2005), a los que siguieron las novelas 'Marbas y el libro de la LUZ', un thriller gótico lleno de misticismo y de aventuras, y 'El Último Arévaco', una historia épica, repleta de valores de amor y libertad.

Llega a los IES de Estepona la exposición itinerante “200 años de la teoría Atómica” El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, a través de la delegación municipal de Juventud, informa de que la exposición itinerante “200 años de la teoría Atómica” llegará a varios institutos de la localidad. Del 23 al 27 de enero permanecerá en el IES El Carmen, y del 30 de enero al 3 de febrero en el IES Mediterráneo.

La exposición itinerante “200 años de la teoría Atómica” se diseñó para la conmemoración de la publicación, en 1808, de la “Teoría Atómica” de John Dalton, en su libro “Un nuevo sistema de filosofía química”, y consta de 23 paneles en formato A1 que muestran información sobre el desarrollo del concepto del átomo a través de la

historia.

En la exposición se recogen también teorías y explicaciones anteriores que ya mencionaban la palabra átomo, así como la posterior evolución de los diferentes modelos atómicos hasta llegar al modelo que tenemos en la actualidad. De esta forma, el alumnado podrá conocer todos los avances obtenidos desde que se descubrió el átomo como partícula indivisible hasta nuestros días.

La exposición está organizada por el Centro de Ciencia Principia, el Área de Educación y Juventud de la Diputación de Málaga y la delegación de Juventud del Ayuntamiento de Estepona.

The travelling exhibition ‘200 years of atomic theory’ will be visiting IES El Carmen from January 23 to 27; and IES Mediterráneo from January 30 to February 3.

The exhibition is designed to commemorate the 1808 publication of John Dalton’s ‘Atomic Theory’ in his book ‘A New System of Chemical Philosophy’, and comprises of some 23 large panels which details the

development of the concept of the atom through history.

The exhibition also details previous theories and explanations and mentions of the word ‘atom’ and the subsequent evolution of different atomic model up until its modern day form. The exhibition helps students to learn of the progress made since the discovery of the atom.

Un total de 12 escuelas europeas de joyería Estepona presenta en Fitur una oficina muestran desde esta semana sus creaciones turística virtual que se convertirá en una en el Palacio de Congresos central de ventas del municipio El Palacio de Ferias y Congresos de Estepona acogerá desde esta tarde a las 20.00 horas una exposición de joyas y diseños realizados por alumnos de 12 escuelas que forman parte del Parlement Lycéen Européen (PLE), un organismo que engloba a más de una veintena de instituciones que imparten formación de joyería en todo el continente.

Entre las escuelas participantes en la muestra se encuentra también la Escuela Municipal de Estepona, que aportará cinco piezas, entre ellas, una fíbula -especie de broche que se utilizaba en la Antigüedad- realizada en plata con zafiros, rubíes y circonitas con un

engaste embutido. La exposición supone una buena oportunidad para conocer las últimas tendencias en diseño, ya que las doce escuelas mostrarán hasta un total de 60 piezas que darán cuenta de las últimas técnicas y tendencias en oro, plata, cobre, platón y piedras semipreciosas.

La muestra, que podrá ser visitada de forma gratuita, permanecerá abierta hasta el próximo 31 de enero de 10.00 a 20.00 horas de la tarde. Esta exposición itinerante ha pasado por Madrid y Volos (Grecia) y que continuará por Latvia (Letonia), Valenza (Italia), Lisboa (Portugal) y Antwerp (Bélgica).

A total of 12 jewellery Schools are displaying their creations from at the Palacio de Congresos The Palacio de Ferias y Congresos in Estepona will host an exhibition of jewellery and designs by students from 12 schools that are part of the Parlement Européen Lycée (PLE), a body which comprises more than twenty institutions providing training in the elaboration of jewellery throughout the continent.

Among the schools participating in the exhibition is the Municipal School of Estepona, contributing five pieces, including an antique style brooch, made from silver with sapphires, rubies and rhinestones in

a recessed mounting . The exhibition is a good opportunity to learn about the latest trends in design, as the twelve schools will exhibit a total of 60 pieces that show off the latest techniques and trends in gold, silver, copper, plate and semiprecious stones.

The exhibition, which is free to view, will remain open until January 31, from 10 am to 8 pm. This exhibition has travelled through Madrid and Volos (Greece) and will continue to Latvia (Latvia), Valenza (Italy), Lisbon (Portugal) and Antwerp (Belgium).

El Ayuntamiento refuerza el organigrama de la Policía Local con el nombramiento de Pedro Naranjo como subjefe del Cuerpo El Ayuntamiento de Estepona nombra subjefe de la Policía Local al subinspector de la Jefatura de la Policía Local de Estepona, Pedro Naranjo. La concejala de Presidencia, Ana Velasco, ha explicado que esta propuesta supondrá “reforzar” el organigrama del Cuerpo de Policía Local, ya que hasta ahora esta figura no estaba contemplada en la jerarquía, lo que provocaba que en ausencia del jefe de la Policía Local, Alfredo Torres, se declinaba sus responsabilidades a los distintos jefes de servicio.

Estepona’s local police force reinforced by the appointment of Pedro Naranjo as Deputy Chief Estepona Town Council recently appointed Pedro Naranjo as Deputy Chief of the Local Police force. Councillor Ana Velasco explained that this appointment will strengthen the forces organisation with the result that, should the local Chief of Police, Alfredo Torres, be absent then the chain of

command will not be broken.

It was also noted that Pedro Naranjo’s career fully justified his appointment to this role having held responsible positions as inspector in the the voluntary service from 2004 to 2007 and chief of the same from 2009 to 2010.

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha presentado en la Feria Internacional de Turismo (Fitur) de Madrid la nueva web www.estepona.es, con la intención de que este sitio se convierta en una oficina turística virtual donde los posibles visitantes tengan acceso a un directorio con toda la oferta de hoteles, campos de golf, restaurantes y locales de ocio del municipio, según ha explicado la concejala adscrita al área de Turismo, Marina Segovia. La edil ha indicado que el Consistorio ha considerado oportuno que la actividad turística tenga un papel predominante en este espacio municipal.

“Vamos a contar con esta central de ventas donde aparecerán los enlaces a multitud de empresas, de manera que los turistas podrán contratar cualquier alojamiento, adquirir entradas a nuestros parques temáticos o reservar mesa en nuestros restaurantes y chiringuitos”, ha indicado la edil, que ha señalado que la página dispone también de toda la información relativa a “la rica oferta de ocio, deportiva, náutica y medioambiental” de Estepona.

Asimismo, ha indicado que esta plataforma 2.0 se convertirá en un “instrumento clave” de promoción

gratuita para las pequeñas y medianas empresas del municipio, ya que el Ayuntamiento cede el sitio a todos aquellos emprendedores que desarrollen proyectos de interés turístico. De esta manera, ha comentado la responsable municipal, las pymes podrán “aprovecharse” de la publicidad que supone estar presentes en una web que está “muy bien posicionada” en los buscadores.

Por esta razón, ha hecho hincapié en invitar a todos los propietarios de negocios a que inserten sus datos en la web para conseguir así un directorio “de referencia” para aquellas personas que apuesten por Estepona como destino turístico.

Asimismo, ha comentado que confía en que la puesta en funcionamiento de esta página contribuya a darle al municipio “el protagonismo turístico que merece”, por lo que espera que en los próximos meses se evidencia un aumento de las pernoctaciones. En ese sentido, ha recordado que Estepona es uno de los municipios de “referencia” en la Costa del Sol, ya que dispone de un total de 18 establecimientos hoteleros, más de 7.000 camas y más de 300 establecimientos de restauración.

Estepona unveils its new tourism website at this year’s Fitur tourism fair Estepona unveiled its new tourism website at this month’s International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid.

According to the Councillor for Tourism, Marina Segovia, the website which can be found at www.estepona.es, is designed to fulfill the role of a Virtual Tourist Office, where potential visitors will have access to a whole range of resources, such as directories of hotels, golf courses, restaurants and entertainment venues in the municipality.

“This portal will provide links to many companies where tourists will be able to book accomodation, buy tickets to local attractions or reserve a table at one of our restaurants or bars”, said the councillor, who went on to point out that the site also has information on “the rich range of

leisure, sports, marine and environmental activities and resources available”.

This platform will become a “key instrument” for free promotion for small business and the council invite entrepreneurs to develop projects of interest, and that these small businesses can take advantage of the exposure on this site that is well positioned on the search engines.

For this reason local businesses are encouraged to enter their details in the directories.

The councillor finished by expressing her hopes that this website will give Estepona the prominance that it deserves within the tourism sector with its 18 hotels providing 7,000 beds and offering over 300 bars and restaurants.

Juventud organiza un viaje a Sierra Nevada durante Semana Blanca

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha abierto el plazo de inscripción para la práctica del esquí o snow en Sierra Nevada durante el periodo vacacional de Semana Blanca, del 26 de febrero al 2 de marzo.

El viaje está organizado por la empresa de viajes especializada en Aventura y Ocio en Sierra Nevada, Querkus, con la colaboración de la delegación municipal de Juventud, y ofrece dos posibilidades económicas y educativas de viaje. El programa de Ski Tutorial para niños de entre cinco y 14 años en el que las premisas seguridad, diversión y aprendizaje están garantizadas con

equipos de monitores con asistencia 24 horas; y Ski Joven para jóvenes a partir de 14 años.

Youth Department ski trip to Sierra Nevada this Semana Blanca Estepona’s Youth Department is arranging a skiing holiday in Sierra Nevada for this Seman Blanca, from February 26 to March 2.

The holiday has been organised the company Querkus, who specialise in adventure and sightseeing activities in the Sierra Nevada, in collaboration with Estepona Town Hall.

There will be a programme of skiing lessons for 5 to 14 year-olds which guarantees a safe, fun and educational

environment with 24 hour supervision.

There is also a Young Ski programme for the over 14s.

These two options are priced at 525 and 465 euros respectively and include all travel, transfers, full board or half board accommodation, lift passes, equipment hire, two lessons a day, monitors, accident insurance and other activities.

El alcalde aborda con la Plataforma de Vecinos la situación de los ‘campitos’ El alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, se ha reunido hoy con representantes de la Plantaforma de Vecinos de Estepona para abordar la situación de los denominados 'campitos', tras la aprobación del decreto de la Junta que regula las edificaciones en suelo no urbanizable en toda la comunidad.

El regidor les ha transmitido tranquilidad y les ha invitado a que colaboren en el trabajo de campo que se está realizando en la oficina de los 'campitos', puesta en marcha a finales del año pasado.

El primer edil ha explicado que esta iniciativa municipal pretende elaborar un censo de viviendas existentes en suelo no urbanizable; así como informar a los ciudadanos afectados sobre las

posibilidades de normalización de sus viviendas.

García Urbano ha argumentado que este procedimiento será “gradual y voluntario”; al tiempo que les ha transmitido que el decreto aprobado por la Junta de Andalucía es “electoralista y no resuelve el problema”.

Estepona será una de las principales sedes de la I Semana Náutica Sol Marina

La concejala adscrita al área de Turismo, Marina Segovia, ha anunciado hoy en la Feria Internacional de Turismo de Madrid (Fitur) que Estepona será una de las principales sedes de la I Semana Náutica Sol Marina, un evento organizado por la Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental que pretende convertirse en un referente del deporte y el mundo náutico.

Entre los actos que tendrán lugar en Estepona durante la semana del 14 al 21 de abril, destaca la celebración de dos bautismos de buceo gratuitos -los días 14 y 19- para todas aquellas personas que estén interesadas en esta actividad.

Por otro lado, el sábado 14 de abril el Puerto Deportivo de Estepona será el lugar de llegada de una concentración de motos acuáticas que partirá del Puerto Deportivo de Benalmádena y que continuará por los de Fuengirola y Marbella, según ha explicado la edil.

Otra de las actividades que tendrán lugar en el municipio esteponero será la regata de la IV prueba del II Campeonato de la Liga Inter-Club del Estrecho, que reunirá a un buen número de navegantes deportivos en la Playa de La Rada. El evento, que se celebrará el sábado 21 de abril, estará organizado por el Real Club Náutico de Estepona y Marinas del Mediterráneo.

Asimismo, los pescadores deportivos de Estepona saldrán el sábado 21 de abril para participar en una jornada de pesca y convivencia con los del resto de municipios costeros de la Costa del Sol.

El responsable de turismo de la Mancomunidad, José Sánchez, ha destacado durante la presentación que la Costa del Sol reúne una serie de características “que la convierten en un espacio idóneo para acoger un evento náutico de referencia”. En esta parte del litoral se concentra el 60% de la capacidad de los puertos deportivos de Andalucía, debido a que en la costa malagueña, desde la Caleta de Vélez hasta Manilva, se concentran la mayoría de los puertos deportivos andaluces.

“Estamos hablando de un total de 3.526 puntos de atraque en apenas algo más de 100 kilómetros de costa”, ha señalado Sánchez, que también ha detallado que con 77 empresas de venta de embarcaciones náuticas en Málaga es la provincia líder en Andalucía, seguida de lejos por Cádiz con 48 empresas, Almería con 30 y Huelva con 25.

“Son factores que nos hacen creer que este evento va a tener una gran acogida y repercusión”, ha asegurado Sánchez, que ha insistido en que la Costa del sol “tiene los elementos necesarios para ser también la costa del deporte náutico”.

“Presentamos un programa ambicioso, que mezcla distintas disciplinas que se dan dentro del ámbito de la náutica y que, a buen seguro, supondrán un atractivo tanto para los ciudadanos de la Costa del Sol como para los visitantes que acudan a nuestra comarca”, ha subrayado el delegado de Turismo de la Mancomunidad Occidental

The councillor for tourism, Marina Segovia, has announced today at the International Tourism Festival in Madrid that Estepona will be one of the main locations of the I Sol Marina Nautical Week, an event organised by the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental.

Among the events due to take place in Estepona during the week between April 14 and 21 are two free trial dives taking place on the 14th and 19th for all those people interested in taking part in this activity.

On another note, on Saturday April 14 the Puerto Deportivo de Estepona will host a concentration of aquatic bikes from the Puerto Deportivo de Benalmádena which will then continue on to Fuengirola and Marbella.

Another of the activities taking place in Estepona will be the IV prueba del II Campeonato de la liga Inter-club del Estrecho regata, which will bring together a good number of sports sailors at the La Rada beach. The event, taking place on Saturday April 21, will be organised by the Real Club Naútico in nEstepona and Marinas del Mediterráneo. Also, the

competitive fishing boats will leave on Saturday April 21 to participate in the day of fishing activities and cooperation between them and the rest of the municipalities on the Costa del Sol. This part of the coast holds 60% of the total capacity of all the sporting ports of Andalucía, as the coast of Málaga has the majority of all the ports of Andalucía.

Estepona Floral Art Club Estepona Floral Art Club will be holding its next flower arranging demonstration on Tuesday, 21st February from 2.45pm until 5.00pm, when the demonstrator will be Angela Turner, who is a NAFAS National demonstrator. Due to the unexpected closure of our regular venue, please see below for details of where this will be held.

Angela Turner (NDSF FSF) has worked with flowers and plant material for many years, starting as a trainee florist some 25 years ago. Having achieved her Society of Floristry & Teaching qualifications, Angela is also a National Demonstrator and Teacher for NAFAS and travels internationally in Europe and most recently Japan, demonstrating and teaching her own style of floral design and

floristry – very natural with a love of strong colours and clean lines. You will see many materials used in an eclectic way, such as wool and yarn, glass, metal or wood – there will always be a focus on colour and texture in her work. Angela has achieved recognition for her talent along the way, culminating in numerous awards including National Interflora Florist of the Year, the coveted Margot Fonteyn Trophy awarded by the Society of Floristry and a Gold Medal in Professional Floristry at Chelsea Flower Show in 2007.

Members and visitors are most welcome to attend. Please let the Club know in advance if you would like to have lunch beforehand. You do not need any prior knowledge of flowers or flower arranging to enjoy the Club’s events.

Established over 10 years ago, Estepona Floral Art Club is a very friendly club on the Costa del Sol, Spain, with members and visitors from Nerja to Gibraltar.

Once a month there is a flower arranging demonstration, where spectacular displays are created live on stage. There are workshops for those who want to learn practical skills, coffee mornings and special events. Members are of various nationalities but all meetings are in English.

Club Charity and Pleasure Club Charity and Pleasure is a social club, mostly appealing to British ex-pats - although open to all - who live in or near the El Paraiso area of Estepona. Its 300+ members enjoy many activities: on a weekly basis, apart from Wednesday coffee mornings held at The Oak at El Paraiso Barronal (when many weeks there is a speaker), there is whist and Chicago bridge, bowls, and a newly-formed singing group. On the last Friday of the month members can enjoy supper followed by a pub quiz. A coach to Gibraltar is provided on a monthly basis, trips such as visits to the theatre, exhibitions and places of local interest are organized; lunches and dinners are arranged at different venues along the coast, and their Summer and Winter Balls provide an excuse to dress up and party.

But what makes this club different is that they raise money for local charities.

This year so far they have been able to make donations to Aspandem, Cudeca, the Elliot George Foundation (Aprona), Age Concern, and the poor of Estepona

through food hampers, amounting to more than 4500 euros.

The club produces a quarterly 64-page magazine for its members, but also reaches others through distribution to local golf clubs and other venues. Production is made possible by advertising, and the valuable support of several loyal businesses. Manilva potencia la uva y el turismo de Manilva promotes wine tourism and camping en la edición de FITUR 2012 camping at the 2012 edition of FITUR

Una delegación de Manilva, encabezada por Antonia Muñoz y Emilio López Berenguer, ha viajado a la capital española, ya que de nuevo la localidad estará representada en la Feria Internacional de Turismo (Fitur).

Como en los últimos años, Manilva se encuentra en el expositor del Patronato de Turismo de la Costa del Sol. Gracias a las gestiones realizadas desde la delegación de Turismo del Ayuntamiento de Manilva, en esta cita se dará a conocer las bondades del municipio, así como las iniciativas que se llevan a cabo a fin de consolidar a la localidad como destino turístico. Se ha adelantado que esta edición de FITUR servirá para presentar a nivel internacional las innovadoras instalaciones del Camping La Bella Vista, así como las infraestructuras y ofertas hoteleras del término, entre otras interesantes propuestas.

También se anunciaba que hoy miércoles a las dos de la tarde se procederá en Fitur a la firma de un convenio entre el

Consistorio manilveño y la Consejería de Turismo de la Ciudad Autónoma de Ceuta, para que se pueda emitir publicidad de las excelencias de Manilva en la televisión pública de Ceuta, y viceversa. En estos días se promocionará en Madrid la campaña “Conoce Manilva, enamórate de ella”. A todo ello hay que añadir videos y folletos promocionales de la localidad, cuyo propósito es que Manilva muestre sus excelencias en una de las ferias turísticas más importantes del mundo.

El segundo valor que se va a potenciar en esta edición de FITUR es la uva.

Según ha informado la alcaldesa, se dará importancia a la promoción del paquete turístico ‘Manilva: Sensaciones del Vino’. Esta iniciativa del Centro de Interpretación Las Viñas de Manilva consiste en un paquete de actividades centradas en la uva y el vino que contempla visitas guiadas, catas y comidas, e incluso plantea la posibilidad de alojamiento.

It was also announced that on Wednesday at two o’clock in the afternoon the town hall of Manilva and the Ministry of Tourism of

the City of Ceuta will proceed to sign an agreement for public television advertising to be broadcast from Manilva to Ceuta and vice versa. In the coming days Manilva will promote the “Know Manilva, fall in love with her’’ campaign. Promotional videos and brochures of the town will be made available whose purpose is to show the quality and beauty of Manilva at one of the most important tourism fairs in the world.

The second item being promoted in this edition of FITUR is the local vineyards and wine infrastructure. As reported by the Mayor, it will push the promotion of the ‘Manilva Wine Sensations’ tourism package. This initiative from the ‘Centro de Interpretación Las Viñas de Manilva’ is a package of activities focused on the grape and wine infrastructure that includes tours, wine tasting and meals, and even raises the possibility of accommodation.

Medio Ambiente organiza un programa de sendero familiar

Éxito de participación en el IV Concurso Del Vino De Manilva

El Pinar de Tábanos

La delegación municipal de Medio Ambiente ha puesto en marcha para este mes de enero un nuevo programa de Senderismo Familiar. Según ha informado el concejal, Emilio López, el objetivo de esta iniciativa es la de ofrecer otra alternativa lúdica para la temporada de invierno y en la que pueda participar toda la familia.

Bajo el nombre “paseos en familia”, se han programado una serie de salidas.

La primera de ellas será el próximo 22 de enero. Se trata de la ruta de las tres fuentes, que llevará a los participantes a visitar las fuentes de Chorro Manso, la Peñuela y la Ocasión.

Para poder participar en esta iniciativa, los participantes deben ser mayores de seis años y en cualquier caso, todos los menores de edad siempre han de ir acompañados de un adulto. La condición física debe ser la apropiada a las distancias y dificultades de los recorridos a realizar.

Habrá 50 plazas por grupo y ruta.

El plazo de reservas o solicitudes permanece abierto hasta el miércoles

previo a la realización de cada salida, que comenzará alrededor de la nueve de la mañana.

El precio es de cuatro euros, cantidad que tiene que ser ingresada en una cuenta de Unicaja. Los menores de 14 años pueden participar en estos senderos de manera gratuita.

El centro de interpretación las viñas de Manilva acogía el pasado siete de enero el cuarto concurso del vino de Manilva, organizado por la delegación de Agricultura del Ayuntamiento de Manilva, que dirige el edil, Diego Díaz, y la Fundación de Manilva para el Desarrollo. Una edición que estuvo marcada por la importante participación registrada.

La alta participación fue una de las notas destacadas de la cuarta edición del concurso del vino de Manilva. Unos 40 agricultores de la localidad se dieron cita en este certamen, superando los registros de ediciones anteriores; lo que, a juicio del edil de agricultura, Diego Díaz, avala la intensa labor que se está realizando desde el Consistorio para preservar una de las tradiciones más arraigadas en la localidad, el cultivo de la viña.

Así las cosas desde primera hora de la mañana los participantes fueron formulando su inscripción, entregando un máximo de una botella por cada variedad (seco, dulce y semidulce), que fue etiquetada con un número para su posterior valoración por el jurado, compuesto por enólogos y profesionales de reconocido prestigio en el mundo del vino. Mientras deliberaban, todos los presentes pudieron disfrutar de un catering, momento que aprovechaba la

alcaldesa, Antonia Muñoz, para destacar la apuesta municipal por la agricultura, las tradiciones y su promoción turística para dinamizar la economía del municipio.

Uno de los participantes en este concurso, Agustín Palma, destacaba la importancia de citas como ésta para garantizar el futuro de la viña en Manilva.

Pasado el mediodía se procedía a la entrega de los premios, un primero de 250 euros, un segundo de 150 euros y un tercero de 100 euros en cada una de las variedades.

En seco, se alzó con la victoria Pedro Palma Díaz; seguido de Juan Carlos López Reyes y Francisco Palma Centeno.

En semidulce el primer premio fue para Jacinto Vázquez Benítez, el segundo para Valentín Carayol Sánchez, y el tercero para Álvaro Ceballo Fariña.

Mientras que en la modalidad de dulce venció Rafael Vargas Arenas, seguido de Francisco López Díaz y Pedro Palma Díaz.

La organización hizo entrega también a los concursantes de un diploma de participación, animando a todos los presentes a seguir apostando por la viña y a participar en futuras ediciones de este concurso.

Environment organizes a programme of family hikes The municipal Environmental department has launched a new family hiking programme this January. As announced by the councillor Emilio Lopez, the objective of this initiative is to provide fun alternatives for the winter season in which the whole family can participate.

Under the name “family outings” a series of outings have been scheduled. The first one will be next January 22. This is the route of the three fountains, which will take participants to visit the Chorro Manso, Peñuela and la ocasión springs.

To participate in this initiative, participants must be over six years of age and all children must always be accompanied by an adult. The physical condition of participants must be appropriate for the distances and difficulties of the routes to be completed.

There will be 50 places per group and route.

The deadline for reservations or requests will remain open until the Wednesday prior

to each trip, which will begin around nine o’clock.

The price is four euros, that must be paid into the Unicaja account below. All children under 14 years of age can participate in these hikes free of charge.

Excellent turnout for this year’s IV Manilva Wine Competition Manilva’s Wine Centre was the venue for the IV Manilva Wine Competition held last January 7 and organised by Manilva’s Agriculture Department, headed by Diego Diaz, and Manilva’s Development Foundation FUNMADES. There were a large number of entrants with some 40 local growers taking part, surpassing previous editions of this contest, and is an indication of the revitalisation of Manilva’s traditional grape and wine industry.

Entrants had to submit a bottle for each category - dry, semi-sweet and sweet – which were subject to a blind tasting by a panel of experts, whilst the assembled contestants and spectators were treated to a buffet.

One of the participants in this contest,

Agustin Palma, stressed the importance of events like this to ensure the future of the wine industry in Manilva.

Around midday the judges proceeded to award the prizes, first 250 euros, second 150 euros and third 100 euros in each of the categories.

In the ‘dry’ category first place went to Pedro Palma Díaz; and joint second to Juan Carlos López Reyes and Francisco Palma Centeno.

In the ‘semi-sweet’ Jacinto Vázquez Benítez took first place, Valentín Carayol Sánchez second, and Álvaro Ceballo Fariña third.

Finally in the ‘sweet’ category victory went to Rafael Vargas Arenas, whilst Francisco López Díaz and Pedro Palma Díaz were runners up.

FUNMADES solicita una Escuela Taller de Recuperación Arqueológica El centro de interpretación las viñas de Manilva acogía el pasado siete de enero el cuarto concurso del vino de Manilva, organizado por la delegación de Agricultura del Ayuntamiento de Manilva, que dirige el edil, Diego Díaz, y la Fundación de Manilva para el Desarrollo.

Una edición que estuvo marcada por la importante participación registrada.

La alta participación fue una de las notas destacadas de la cuarta edición del concurso del vino de Manilva.

Unos 40 agricultores de la localidad se dieron cita en este certamen, superando los registros de ediciones anteriores; lo que, a juicio del edil de agricultura, Diego Díaz, avala la intensa labor que se está realizando desde el Consistorio para preservar una de las tradiciones más arraigadas en la localidad, el cultivo de la viña.

Así las cosas desde primera hora de la mañana los participantes fueron formulando su inscripción, entregando un máximo de una botella por cada variedad (seco, dulce y semidulce), que fue etiquetada con un número para su posterior valoración por el jurado, compuesto por enólogos y profesionales de reconocido prestigio en el mundo del vino. Mientras deliberaban, todos los presentes pudieron disfrutar de un catering, momento que aprovechaba la alcaldesa, Antonia Muñoz, para destacar la apuesta municipal por la agricultura, las tradiciones y su promoción turística para dinamizar la economía del municipio.

Uno de los participantes en este concurso, Agustín Palma, destacaba la importancia de citas como ésta para garantizar el futuro de la viña en Manilva.

Pasado el mediodía se procedía a la entrega de los premios, un primero de 250 euros, un segundo de 150

euros y un tercero de 100 euros en cada una de las variedades.

En seco, se alzó con la victoria Pedro Palma Díaz; seguido de Juan Carlos López Reyes y Francisco Palma Centeno.

En semidulce el primer premio fue para Jacinto Vázquez Benítez, el segundo para Valentín Carayol Sánchez, y el tercero para Álvaro Ceballo Fariña.

Mientras que en la modalidad de dulce venció Rafael Vargas Arenas, seguido de Francisco López Díaz y Pedro Palma Díaz.

La organización hizo entrega también a los concursantes de un diploma de participación, animando a todos los presentes a seguir apostando por la viña y a participar en futuras ediciones de este concurso.

FUNMADES seeks to create an Archaeological School in Manilva Manilva’s local authorities have applied to the Provincial office of the Andalucian Employment Service for funding to create an archaeological school, with the objective of enhancing Manilva’s rich archaeological heritage whilst at

the same time providing training for local people.

The application was presented by the Mayoress, the councillor for local development, Diego Diaz, the director of the Manilva development foundation FUNMADES, José Carlos Castaños, and the director of the wine school, Albert Asunción, at a recent meeting with the Provincial Development Delegate, Susana Radío.

The application seeks some 1,745,079 euros which would go towards the creating of an archaeological park incorporating the various Roman sites in Castillo, including the bathhouse, Roman villa and the fish processing installation. There would be a visitor centre and information boards, etc. The park would also integrate the Castle and would serve as a huge asset to Manilva’s tourism and cultural infrastructure.

The workshop would offer two year courses to some 60 students, with priority going to the young, the unemployed, and the disadvantaged.

The Spanish Tax Authorities could potentially access electricity bills and other supporting documentation to establish residency patterns.

Dear Mr Smith I am writing to advise you that we have received a letter from the Spanish tax authorities advising us that as a Spanish tax resident you are obliged to file a tax return form and declare your worldwide income including any interest or dividend income you may have received from abroad.

We have been instructed by yourself on previous occasions to declare taxes in Spain as a non resident individual on the basis that you are not a resident of this country. As a non resident you are not obliged to pay taxes in Spain for overseas investment income.

However, we have been notified by the Spanish tax authorities that according to information they have received from a Private Bank in an offshore jurisdiction you have been receiving payments for a number of years now. They are questioning two payments received in 2008 for €43,675 and €12,825.

The tax authorities have given us 10 days in which to respond to the following questions:  The origin and nature of the payments received.  The arguments for non-inclusion of these sums in your income tax declaration.  Confirm and prove that you spend less than 183 days in Spain and provide a tax certificate from your country of residence.

In light of the above we would be grateful if you could please let us know at the earliest possible opportunity if you are spending more than 183 days in Spain and therefore deemed a Spanish tax resident.

If you fail to respond within ten days the tax authorities will initiate a process to fine you and the amounts received will be subjected to tax. It is also likely they will now open an investigation to establish where you are actually resident and this may have some serious consequences.

I would be most grateful if you could please revert as soon as possible to discuss the above and establish the best course of action.

Costa Advice Bureau A notary’s response to residents’ documents My clients, who are residents, purchased a property in Andalucía. When drawing up the purchase contract (escritura de compraventa) in a notary, the clerk was at first not willing to inscribe in the document that they were residents in Spain. As far as he was concerned he had no proof of resident status. He made the point that the A4 size green document which has replaced the previous resident card, (and even though accompanied by passports) was not proof enough. He did have a point. If they had been selling a property they would have been considered as nonresidents. This would result in the rule of ‘nonresident tax’ being applied.

Consequently; three percent of the total sale price would be legally withheld at source. The dues would then be forwarded to the tax authority.

The new document states, “La persona que a continuación se indica, ha solicitado y obtenido su inscripción en el Regisgtro Central de Extranjeros de la Dirección de la Policía y de la Guardia Civil, como residente comunitario en España” (The person indicated below, has sought and obtained registration in the Central Registry of Foreigners, of the address of the Police and of the Civil Guard; as a community resident in Spain) Translate and take this statement as you will, but there is no doubt, that there is conflicting and controversial recognition of resident status at present. For this reason it is important to take further action to authenticate your resident status.

“I have not been mentioned in my father’s Spanish will”. Can I challenge the decision?

I have always been very interested in Spanish law. Inspired by the results of numerous mistakes appearing in legal contracts, I continue to search for anomalies. This has proved useful when checking the legality of documents. On many occasions I have brought to attention the invalidity of long term rental contracts.

For instance, those which include clauses, such as “eleven months rental,“ do not protect the owner because what in fact is being drawn up, is a five year contract. The eleven month contract could be upheld in a court of law, but only depending on certain circumstances. These do not normally apply to an expatriate tenant. These contracts are still being used in Spain.

Therefore one has to consider that when drawing up a will in Spain, using the laws of your home country (legal in Spain) is protection enough for you and your inheritors. Are you protected from claims from children from a previous marriage or anyone who considers that they have been illegally disinherited? Normally courts in Spain will not allow you to contest the will and prefer to accept the laws of Great Britain. There may though be cases where a disinherited offspring with a good lawyer, could find inaccuracy in the will. This may include the wording of the will, or the circumstances under which it was written (I personally know of a case where a will was signed at the notary, even though one of the partners was suffering from Alzheimer’s, an illness which was not noticed by the notary. (Some stages of this disease and dementia are not easily recognisable by non medicals)

DFAS de la Frontera was originally founded in 2005 to meet the needs of those living on, and visiting, the western end of the Costa del Sol and is now the largest society in the area. Based close to Sotogrande its main catchment area is from Marbella along the coast to La Linea and inland to Casares, Gaucin, and Jimena de la Frontera.

DFAS de la Frontera offers members and visitors alike a platform from which to enjoy high standard cultural lectures, trips and events, and to meet and mix with like minded persons.

The season of lectures runs from October through May and includes not just lectures, but special interest days, trips, and events both cultural and social.

Lectures are open to both members and non-members. Trips and other events are however normally limited to members only.

DFAS de la Frontera meet at the San Roque Golf & Country Club, 11360 - San Roque, which is located off the A-7 at kilometer 127.

All lectures are held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month and start at 11 am unless otherwise stated. Timings for other events may be different and should be checked on the relevant page. The lectures normally

5.Spice up your diet Cutting out fat and salt in a quest to be healthier can leave you with bland food. A good place to start is your own spice rack. Go through the spices and find some you have never cooked with, and then find a recipe to try it out.

6.Cook one new meal a week The average Brit cooks 7 different meals in rotation it’s easy to stick with what we know. Aim to introduce one new meal a week to expand your repertoire. Have fun with it! Maybe swap recipes with friends or start a dinner club. Ask your children to pick a region and find a recipe from there.

Nuevo Evento de estilo de vida viene a la Costa este mayo Un nuevo evento de estilo de vida familiar está llegando a la costa este mes de mayo. Llamado ‘Living on the Coast’ (viviendo en la costa), está siendo estrenada por los organizadores del gran éxito ‘The over 50’s show’ (El show de los mayores de 50) y se llevará a cabo en el Palacio de Exposiones y Congresos, Marbella (Marbella Centro de Exposiciones).

El evento, según los organizadores, cuenta con una atractiva mezcla de exposiciones, presentaciones y demostraciones todos encaminados a conseguir la mayor audiencia posible, e incluirá demostraciones de cocina de los chefs, desfiles de moda, equipo de jardinería, clínicas y consejos, juegos de sala, la cata de vinos, un “kidszone” (zona infantil) que ofrece juegos y atracciones, coches y barcos “asequibles”, una amplia exposición de arte, asesoramiento financiero, equipos de entretenimiento en casa, demostraciones de fitness y yoga y mucho, mucho, más.

Otra característica principal del evento será la importancia de apostar por productos y sistemas para

el hogar eficientes en el gasto de energía y respetuosos con el medio ambiente.

New lifestyle event coming to the Coast in May A new family lifestyle event is coming to the Coast this May. Called Living On the Coast, it is being launched by the organisers of the highly successful Over 50s Show and will take place at the Palacio de Exposiones y Congressos, Marbella (Marbella Exhibition Centre).

The event will, according to the organisers, feature an attractive mix of displays, presentations and demonstrations all aimed at the widest possible audience, and will include cooking demonstrations from top chefs, fashions shows, garden equipment, clinics and advice, room sets, wine tasting and appreciation, a ‘kidszone’ featuring games and attractions, ‘affordable’ cars and boats, an extensive art exhibition, finance advice, home entertainment equipment, fitness and yoga demonstrations ‘and much, much, more’.

Another feature of the event will major on energy efficient and environmentally friendly products and systems for the home.

The organisers comment: ‘While we have run the hugely successful Over 50s Show for the past four years, which is aimed at a specific audience, there has not been a general lifestyle event on the Coast for a number of years and with our proven record we felt it was time to rectify that and offer residents along

the Coast and inland an event with the widest possible appeal.

‘We have set out to embrace a multitude of subjects and interests, but we would be delighted to hear from individuals and groups wishing to see certain elements featured in the event’.

Why you should register on the padrón?

We remind you that as a resident of Manilva you have to be registered on the padrón (similar to the electoral roll) in the town where you live, and also inform the local authorities of any change of address you make.

So, in order to register on the padrón in Manilva or Sabinillas you have to go to either of the following offices: Tenencia de Alcaldía, Sabinillas in Pío Baroja street Nº5 local 2 (opposite the petrol station and near the Supersol store and bus stop in Sabinillas).

It is important for you to be aware that depending on the number of individuals registered at the Town Hall, the local authority receives economic support from the Junta de Andalucia and the Government.

Arsenal soccer school promotes female football The Arsenal Soccer School in Costa del Sol continues to work hard to promote female football in the area and that is why they have launched their girls’ open sessions carried out every Wednesday from 5 pm to 7 pm at Laude San Pedro school football pitch.

The sessions are open to girls of all abilities from 9 years old, with the aim of giving an opportunity to all those young female players with a passion for this sport

Los atletas sanroqueños obtuvieron buenos resultados en el campeonato provincial de invierno celebrado este fin de semana en las pistas de Sanlúcar de Barrameda, a pesar de tener bajas importantes en sus filas, la mayoría por enfermedad. Se consiguieron seis medallas (dos oros y cuatro platas), además de superar sus marcas personales todos los atletas.

En la categoría alevín, Marta Victoria García, se proclamó campeona provincial en 60 metros con 9”94 y segunda en salto de longitud con 3,44 metros, mejorando sus marcas personales. Millicent Burns quedó segunda en lanzamiento de peso con una marca de 4,02 metros.

En la categoría infantil, Adolfo Aldana se clasificó cuarto, tanto en 60 metros con una marca de 9”35 como en salto de longitud con 3,67 metros. En ambas pruebas mejoró sus marcas, lo cual alberga posibilidades de poder competir en el andaluz infantil en 60 metros.

En la categoría cadete, Isidro Arias se colgó la medalla de plata en la prueba de 60 metros vallas con una marca de

10”99, pulverizando su anterior marca de 11”30. Con esta marca debe estar en la final del campeonato de Andalucía.

También consiguió una cuarta plaza con una marca de 8”56.

En la categoría juvenil, Claudia Aldana consiguió el oro en salto de longitud con una marca de 4,52 (mejor marca personal), segunda en 60 metros vallas y cuarta en 200 metros lisos. Tiene marca para estar en el andaluz en 60 metros vallas y salto de longitud.

José Manuel Ruiz, fue quinto en lanzamiento de peso con 9,02 metros y sexto en lanzamiento de disco con una marca de 24,39 metros. En ambas prueba mejoró sus marcas personales.

José Delgado, ocupó la quinta plaza con una marca de 25,78 metros mejorando su marca anterior en más de 4 metros.

En resumen un buen resultado para los atletas sanroqueños, que a partir de la próxima semana comenzarán a preparar el campeonato de Andalucía de pista cubierta que se celebrará en las instalaciones deportivas de la ciudad de Antequera.

San Roque take six medals in the Cadiz Athletics Championships.

San Roque athletes performed well in the winter provincial championship held this weekend on the slopes of Sanlucar de Barrameda, in spite of there being many absences in their ranks, mostly due to illness. Six medals were won (two gold and four silver) as well as all athletes overcoming their personal bests.

In the juvenile category, Marta Victoria Garcia was proclaimed provincial champion over 60 metres with a time of 9 “94 and came second in the long jump with 3.44 metres, improving their personal bests.

Millicent Burns was second in the shot put with a length of 4.02 metres.

In the junior category, Adolfo Aldana was ranked fourth on the 60 metre run with a time of 9 “35 as in the long jump with 3.67 metres. He improved his score in both events, which potentially means he may go on to compete in the Andalucian children’s 60 metres.

In the cadet category, Isidro Arias was awarded the silver medal in the 60 metre hurdles test with a score of 10 “99,

smashing his previous record of 11” 30.

With this score he should be in the finals of the championship. He also got another fourth place with a score of 8 “56.

In the junior category, Claudia Aldana won gold in the long jump with a score of 4.52 (personal best), second in the 60 metre hurdles and fourth in the 200 metre dash.

She has a high enough score to be in the Andalucian 60 metre hurdles event and the long jump.

Jose Manuel Ruiz was fifth in the shot put with a score of 9.02 metres and came sixth in discus throwing with a result of 24.39 metres. In both tests he improved his personal bests.

Jose Delgado took fifth place with a result of 25.78 metres improving his earlier score by more than 4 metres. To sum it up, a good result for San Roques athletes, who from next week will begin to prepare for the Andalucian championship to be held at the indoor sports facilities in the city of Antequera.
