Even the UK press, always ready to stick the knife in, have begun to suggest that now could be a good time to invest in some of the incredible bargains available in the Spanish property market, some of which can be found in our property section on page 26.

All in all there is a feeling of optimism in The Resident, which hopefully is being repeated in other establishments in the region. After all it only takes a little public confidence to begin the road to economic recovery.

Finally just a reminder to all those on the padron who haven’t registered their desire to vote yet, you only have until the 31st March in which to do so, so if you want your voice to count then make sure you’re on the voting list.

Well here we are again, a new year, a new decade, I wonder what 2011 holds for us.

We start the year with a few changes to The Resident, with a change to our production process requiring a few tweaks be made to the layout of the paper. One or two items have been moved from their usual positions in the layout, but hopefully it shouldn’t make too much of a difference to our readers enjoyment. The change will allow for greater flexibility and will pave the way for some improvements we plan to bring in this year, but more of that at a later date.

Whilst things are still a bit grim on the economic front, there are a few positive signs that might bring some relief.

Reports from the Costa del Sol Tourist Board indicate that visitor numbers continue to remain strong, with visitors to Malaga province up on 2009.

Incluso la prensa Británica, siempre preparada a la crítica, ha empezado a sugerir que ahora pudiera ser una buena época para invertir en algunas de las increíbles gangas en el sector inmobiliario español, algunas de ellas se pueden encontrar en nuestra sección de propiedades en la página 26.

En total, hay un sentimiento de optimismo en el periódico The Resident, que esperemos tengan en los demás establecimientos de la zona.

Después de todo hay que tener un poco de confianza en sí mismo para recuperar la economía.

Finalmente, os hago un recordatorio a todos aquellos que estéis empadronados y no hayáis sido todavía registrados para votar, tenéis hasta el 31 de marzo para hacerlo, si queréis que os escuchen, aseguraos de que estáis en la lista de votantes.

Bien, aquí estamos de nuevo, empezando un año nuevo, una nueva década, me pregunto qué es lo que nos traerá.

Empezamos el año con unos cuántos cambios en el periódico, con un cambio en el proceso de producción y unos pequeños ajustes en el diseño del periódico. Uno o dos artículos han sido cambiados de su situación habitual, pero esperemos que no cause ninguna diferencia para el disfrute de nuestros lectores. El cambio permitirá una mayor flexibilidad y abrirá el camino mejorando el periódico, lo cual estamos planeando para este año, pero ya os lo comunicaré.

Mientras las cosas están todavía un poco desalentadoras en el aspecto económico, hay algunas señales positivas que trae un poco de alivio.

El Ayuntamiento de San Roque reduce en dos años su factura de móviles en un 50%

El ex alcalde de La Línea declara en el juicio de Roseworld

El Ayuntamiento ha reducido su factura de teléfono móvil a prácticamente la mitad entre 2008 y 2010. Así se pone de manifiesto en un documento realizado por el Centro de Procesamiento de Datos (CPD) del que ha informado el alcalde, Fernando Palma, en la radio municipal.

Según este informe interno, el importe medio mensual en este concepto fue durante 2008 de 10.870 euros, mientras que el año pasado se situó en 5.450 euros. De manera más detallada, se pagó a Telefónica en 2008 una media mensual de 4.069 euros por las llamadas a móviles desde líneas fijas de esta compañía, mientras que el importe correspondiente a llamadas desde los móviles (asociados a Vodafone) se situó en 6.800 euros. En 2010 a Telefónica se le abonó una media mensual de 931,72 euros, mientras que a Vodafone se le pagó 3.756,89 euros por las llamadas desde móviles y otros 761,24 euros correspondientes al consumo asociado al primario de esta compañía instalado en la nueva Casa Consistorial.

En declaraciones a Canal San Roque Radio, el primer edil puso de manifiesto que “la política de ahorro que se ha llevado a cabo en materia de teléfonos está dando los frutos deseados. En primer lugar, se aplicó mayor racionalidad en cuanto a la cantidad de terminales repartidos entre el personal municipal, porque como dice el compañero Ramón Ramírez, ‘antes tenían móvil del Ayuntamiento hasta las macetas’”.

“En segundo lugar -continuó-, se renegociaron los contratos y nos dotamos de una serie de mejoras técnicas en la nueva Casa Consistorial, lo que también ha supuesto un gran ahorro. Seguimos en esta línea, y gracias a la financiación del

El ex alcalde de La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz), el popular Juan Carlos Juárez, declaró ayer en la Audiencia de Algeciras por la venta de suelo municipal a la empresa Roseworld.

El ex alcalde, afirmó que no participó ni en la mesa de contratación ni en el pleno que aprobó la operación de compra-venta de los terrenos municipales. En el caso están implicados tres ediles del PP y un antiguo compañero de éstos en la Corporación.

Ex La Línea Mayor on trial in Roseworld case The former Partido Popular Mayor of La Línea, Juan Carlos Juárez, is in court this week in the ‘Roseworld’ case, for alleged irregularities in the sale of four plots of publicly owned land. The land was sold to Roseworld in 2005, and was later sold on to another company.

Juárez is charged with bribery and perversion of the course of justice, and faces up to four years in prison. He also faces an eight and a half year ban from public office and a fine of 500,000 €.

Eleven others are charged with him in the case, including the Town Hall’s ex councillor for tax matters, Carlos Ruiz Calama, who was also coordinator for town planning.

Miguel Tornay, a councillor for the PSOE in La Línea, has placed a private accusation in the case.

Juárez is currently under a six month ban from office for ignoring a ruling to settle a debt. He stepped down as Mayor at the beginning of November when the ban commenced.

San Roque Town Hall cuts mobile phone bill by 50% over last two years Town Hall employees have reduced their mobile phone usage by some 50% over the period from 2008 to 2010 according to a recent report produced by the Data Processing Centre.

According to this internal document the average monthly mobile phone bill in 2008 was 10,870 euros, whilst last year this had been reduced to 5,450 euros. In detail the report shows that in 2008 a monthly average of 4,069 euros was charged by Telefonica for calls from its landlines to mobile phones, and an average of 6,800 euros was paid to Vodafone for calls from mobiles. In 2010 these charges were reduced to a monthly average of 931 euros to Telefonica and 3756 euros to Vodafone.

Se trata de una inversión acogida al Plan Proteja, y tiene un presupuesto de 53.218 euros.

El escenario se levanta en el mismo lugar donde se ubicaba el antiguo juzgado de

la Alameda, y cuenta con las instalaciones eléctricas necesarias para llevar a cabo los distintos espectáculos que habitualmente se realizan en este popular espacio sanroqueño.

El alcalde apuntó que “en unos días estará terminado el escenario en sí, y estamos esperando la pérgola que se le instalará para cubrirlo en caso de lluvia”. Además del escenario, se ha habilitado el espacio adyacente, colocando nuevo pavimento.

Alameda stage to be completed before Carnival Construction work on the permanent stage being built in the Alameda Alfonso XI in San Roque is going well and is expected to be completed in time for Carnival. This project involves an investment of over 53,000 euros and is part of the Plan Proteja employment creation scheme.

The stage is being constructed on the site of the former Alameda Court and will be fully equipped to stage the various shows that are usually held in this popular location.

The stage will also be covered by a pergola which will provide protection from the rain.

Taller de cerámica dirigido a mujeres Aumentar la autoestima de las mujeres, fomentar su creatividad y la satisfacción de trabajar en equipo. Son algunos de los objetivos del nuevo taller de cerámica que se va a poner en marcha el próximo 14 de enero.

Las clases darán comienzo ese día a partir de las cinco y media de la tarde, en el centro de formación, situado en Sabinillas, frente a Correos. Esta iniciativa será impartida por el ceramista Salvador Luna. Según

Mezcla de culturas en un taller gastronómico Más del 40 por ciento de la población en Manilva es extranjera. Ingleses, franceses, alemanes, marroquíes, ecuatorianos...

Más de 30 nacionalidades confluyen en la localidad y conseguir la integración de todas las culturas debe ser un reto para las administraciones públicas.

Por tal motivo, desde la Diputación de Málaga se puso en marcha un taller gastronómico en colaboración con la Delegación de Bienestar Social del Ayuntamiento de Manilva.

Cada martes, unas 15 mujeres del municipio aprenden en el restaurante Jazmine las exquisiteces de la cocina

francesa, marroquí, italiana, y española de la mano de Assia. Una iniciativa gratuita que ha resultado todo un éxito.

En cada jornada Assia enseña la elaboración de un primer plato, un segundo y un postre. Macarrones boloñesa, bolitas de coco, o kuskús, son algunas recetas que ya han puesto en marcha.

Cinco sesiones para aprender los secretos de la cocina internacional, y de paso intercambiar culturas, ya que en este taller participan mujeres de diferentes nacionalidades. Tanto es así, que a las alumnas se les ha hecho corto.

This will be held every Tuesday at the

Restaurante Jasmines where classes of 15 pupils will learn the intricacies of French, Moroccan, Italian and Spanish cuisine under the tuition of Assia.

Each day Assia will guide the class through the preparation of a starter, a main course, and a dessert.

Each course runs for five sessions and besides giving an insight into international cooking methods also provides an opportunity for cultural exchange amongst the various nationalities attending.

El Consejero de Turismo visita Manilva para Medio Ambiente propone los senderos apoyar varios proyectos para el invierno El Consejero de Turismo de la Junta de Andalucía, Luciano Alonso confirmó ayer en su visita a Manilva que antes de que acabe la actual legislatura se inaugurará oficialmente el Centro de Interpretación las viñas de Manilva.

Con ello, según palabras del consejero, se acepta la petición de la alcaldesa de Manilva, Antonia Muñoz, quién destacaba la necesidad

de liberar la partida económica necesaria para poder poner en funcionamiento el citado centro en su totalidad.

El consejero de turismo de la Junta presenció junto al Equipo de Gobierno el desarrollo de las obras de construcción del paseo marítimo del Castillo así como la instalación informativa que se ha creado en la oficina de turismo del Puerto de la Duquesa.

La delegación de Medio Ambiente propone varios senderos para la época de invierno 2011. Estos senderos en familia serán gratuitos para los niños y niñas menores de 14 años.

Las rutas establecidas son: 13 de febrero - Jacinto Porro - Alcorrín: Distancia: 9.000 m. Dificultad: Baja 13 de marzo - Sierra de la Utrera - Distancia: 6.000 m. Dificultad: Media Especificaciones generales: Los participantes serán mayores de 6 años.

Estando siempre los menores acompañados por adultos.

La condición física de los participantes deberá ser la apropiada a las distancias y dificultades de los recorridos a realizar pudiendo denegarse el acceso a las mismas

por consideraciones técnicas de la propia organización.

El plazo de reservas o solicitudes permanecerá abierto hasta el miércoles previo a la realización de cada ruta.

Regional tourism minister visits projects in Manilva The Junta de Andalucia’s Minister for Tourism, Luciano Alfonso, has confirmed that funds for the final completion of Manilva’s Wine Centre will be made available shortly.

Mr Alfonso made this statement during a visit to view progress on two projects in the municipality being funded by the regional government’s Plan Qualifica scheme for improvements to tourism infrastructure.

The first was the new interactive tourist information points which have been installed

at the Tourist Office in Puerto de la Duquesa which feature touch screens both inside and outside the building giving visitors access to a wide range of information on Manilva and other municipalities on the Western Costa del Sol. The minister also took the opportunity to inspect the progress on the new stretch of promenade being constructed, that will connect the marina at Duquesa with the village of Castillo.

Manilva winter hiking programme Manilva’s environment department have published their programme of walks for the winter season. The hikes are aimed at families and are free for children under 14.

The routes are: Sunday February 13 - Jacinto Porro - Alcorrin.

Distance 9 km. Category: Easy.

Sunday March 13 - Sierra de la Utrera.

Distance: 6 km. Category: Medium.

General conditions: Participants must be over 6 years of age. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Participants should be of an appropriate level of physical fitness for the distances and level of difficulty of the walk. Guides reserve the right to refuse those deemed unfit for a

particular route.

Places can be booked up until the Wednesday prior to the particular walk.

Departure time is approximately 9 am (Buses are provided where required).

Sigue en marcha la temporada de juegos infantiles Se trata de una iniciativa, que ya comenzó el pasado año y que seguirá todos los domingos, hasta el 20 de junio de 2011.

Según el programa previsto por el Ayuntamiento de Manilva y bajo el lema “Juega y diviértete”, la próxima cita será el 23 de enero en Punta Almina, en Sabinillas; y el 30 de enero, en la barriada

de los Pescadores, también en Sabinillas.

Las actividades seguirán los domingos de los meses de febrero, marzo, abril, mayo y junio, éste último mes hasta el día 20, en distintas ubicaciones del término municipal.

El can corre, salta y juguetea entre los arbustos. En un momento dado mastica algo chicloso.

Como dueño responsable se acerca a comprobar qué come su mascota para obligarle a escupirlo si puede hacerle daño. Y se encuentra con una desagradable sorpresa: su perro está comiendo excrementos. Quienes tienen o han tenido perros probablemente se han enfrentado a esta curiosa situación.

Los perros comen excrementos de humanos y de otros animales. “Son selectivos a la hora de elegir”, explica a RTVE.es el veterinario Javier Gómez de la Clínica Ginzo de Limia en Madrid.

“Algunos tienen preferencia por los humanos y otros por los de sus congéneres o los de otros animales”.

Por qué lo hacen es aún un misterio.

No hay consenso entre la comunidad veterinaria, pero dos son las teorías más repetidas. “Una propone que el animal tiene alguna carencia nutricional, de un aminoácido o algún otro oligoelemento, y lo busca en los excrementos, que al fin y al cabo son comida digerida”, explica el doctor. Sin embargo, no hay datos que avalen esta teoría.

“Si das un suplemento a un perro seguirá comiendo excrementos. Mi experiencia

personal es que ni siquiera uno de cada 10 perros dejaba de hacerlo”.

La otra teoría señala que la coprofagia es algo natural en los perros.

“Lo hacen porque les gusta, porque para ellos el olor no es desagradable”, comenta. “Algunos perros de caza también se restriegan en excrementos de otros animales, como vacas, por ejemplo, para que no les detecten las presas”.

Cualquier cachorro, sea de la especie que sea practica la coprofagia, incluso los humanos. “Un bebé se comería, si le dejas, una caca. Es normal, en esa etapa de la vida quieren probar la consistencia y la textura de la cosas”, explica Gómez. Los humanos dejamos de hacerlo porque no nos agrada el olor y porque por convención social no está bien visto. Pero los perros no.

Es muy difícil conseguir que un perro adulto que come excrementos deje de hacerlo. Hay que regañarles para que no lo tomen como costumbre, pero “el que persiste pasado el año lo seguirá haciendo”, admite.

You find a nasty surprise: your dog is eating excrement. Those who now have or have had dogs probably have faced this strange situation at some time.

Infraestructura pone en marcha un plan de reasfaltado en el municipio Mario Jiménez, edil de Infraestructura y Obras ha informado que para la próxima semana ya estará abierto al tráfico el desdoblamiento de circulación del tramo de Villamatilde en los dos sentidos.

Cabe recordar que esta zona, de unos 400 metros, está comprendida desde la rotonda del Duque a la gasolinera de Sabinillas.

Los trabajos están consistiendo en el reasfaltado y la urbanización, estando finalizada en unos días.

Estas actuaciones se enmarcan en un Plan de Reasfaltado dispuesto por la citada

delegación y supervisado por Jiménez, quien también solicitó a los vecinos que colaboren con la retirada de los vehículos, ya que el próximo lunes comenzarán los trabajos en las calles Pozo del Rey, Manuel Altolaguirre en Manilva y el Camino de la Peñuela.

Según vayan marchando los trabajos de reasfaltado, a continuación, le tocará el turno a las calles Benalmádena, Mijas, Virgen del Carmen, Emilio Prados y Miguel Delibes en Sabinillas, para seguir con Juan de la Rosa y Mimbrales en la Colonia y la Calle Benito en el Secadero.

La Carretera del Peñoncillo abrirá al tráfico en breve Comienza el año, y con él la reanudación de trabajos importantes para el municipio. La carretera del Peñoncillo, una de las vías de unión que une Manilva con Sabinillas podrá estar abierta al tráfico durante este primer mes del año.

Esta reanudación es posible gracias a que ya se ha recibido el permiso necesario del Ministerio de Industria, para poder desviar la línea de media tensión. Una documentación imprescindible y que ha provocado el retraso de estos trabajos.

La Alcaldesa de Manilva, Antonia Muñoz, junto al responsable de Infraestructura y Obras, Mario Jiménez, y miembros de la empresa Coscorve, responsable de la

ejecución de los trabajos, visitaron la pasada semana estas obras con el fin de conocer las modificaciones que tanto Muñoz como Jiménez han planteado, para el último tramo de esta vía.

Los cambios afectan a la zona que va desde la rotonda del Instituto hasta casi la entrada del municipio. El proyecto inicial tenía previsto la creación de una carretera de 4 vías, pero las condiciones del terreno hacen que haya que reducir este último tramo a tan sólo dos.

Los trabajos en el Peñoncillo duran ya varios años, aunque parece que esta carretera podrá abrirse al tráfico durante este primer mes del año.

Últimos pasos para la finalización del gimnasio municipal y el aula de formación La alcaldesa de Casares, Antonia Morera, visitó junto al teniente de alcalde, Pedro Valadez, el gimnasio municipal y el aula de formación que el Ayuntamiento de Casares construye en el edificio de aparcamientos de la calle Camachas.

La instalación de este nuevo ascensor, que comunicará la planta -7 con la -10 y el polideportivo municipal, es una de los trabajos complementarios del proyecto del gimnasio municipal cuya obra concluirá en febrero ya que actualmente se está realizando la instalación eléctrica.

Para la construcción de este gimnasio, el Ayuntamiento de Casares ha contado con un presupuesto de 316.101 euros, un proyecto ambicioso que supone la puesta en marcha de 611 metros cuadrados de instalaciones, con dos salas de usos múltiples y una espaciosa sala de máquinas

de más de 160 metros cuadrados, además de duchas, vestuario, un pequeño bar, y sala de masajes.

Por su parte, el aula de formación construida por el Ayuntamiento en la planta segunda del aparcamiento se encuentra ya en su fase final, a falta de la instalación eléctrica y la puerta de entrada.

Además, durante estos días se está emplazando un paso peatonal desde el ascensor del aparcamiento hasta el aula para que el acceso a las instalaciones cuente con acceso de barreras arquitectónicas para personas con dificultad de movilidad libre. No obstante a este aula de formación también se podrá acceder desde la Plaza Marcelino Camacho, a través de la escalera situada junto al parque infantil.

Municipal gym close to completion In a recent visit the new gymnasium and classrooms being built at the car park building in Calle Camachas, the Mayor of Casares, Antonia Morera, and her deputy, Pedro Valadez, saw for themselves the current progress being made including the installation of a new lift which will connect floors -10 and -7 with the sports complex, which is an addition to the original gymnasium scheme which it is anticipated will be completed next month.

The construction of the gym has cost around

316,000 euros and is an ambitious project providing 611 square metres of facilities including two multipurpose rooms, and a spacious aparatus room of over 160 square metres, along with changing facilities, showers, a small bar, and a massage room.

Works are also being carried out to provide access for those with limited mobility to the training rooms which are currently accessed by stairs from the Plaza Marcelino Camacho.

30 proyectos concurren a la novena edición de los Premios Blas Infante Finalizado el plazo de presentación de los Premios Blas Infantes: Casares Solidario son 30 los proyectos que se han presentado a esta novena edición, aunque podrían ser 31 si una de las organizaciones aporta la documentación requerida.

La mayoría de los proyectos presentados, 17 concretamente, son proyectos de cooperación internacional que concurren al Premio Casares por la Humanidad, a los que se destina al menos el 75% de los 50.000 € que el pueblo de Casares reserva a estos premios.

Otros 13 proyectos son de educación para el desarrollo, 2 de ámbito nacional, para los

Premios Casares por España, 11 de ámbito regional que concurren al premio Casares por Andalucía. La cantidad destinada a estas subvenciones no superarán el 25% de la cuantía total.

Actualmente las comisiones vecinales están leyendo todos los proyectos para realizar una preselección, y en las próximas semanas se reunirán para realizar las propuestas de proyectos premiados que serán llevadas a la reunión del jurado que como cada año se realizará en la sede del Defensor del Pueblo Andaluz, cuyo titular, José Chamizo, es también presidente del jurado.

30 projects up for consideration in IX Blas Infante Awards Following the deadline for submissions some 30 projects have been put forward, which could rise to 31 if one of the applicants can provide further documentation to support its submission.

The majority of the projects, 17 to be precise, have been entered in the Casares for Humanity category which represents 75% of the 50,000 euro prize fund and goes towards international projects.

The remaining 13 are in the field of educational

development 2 of which are national projects and 11 are at regional level. The funding set aside for these will not exceed 25% of the fund.

Local committees are currently examining the various projects which will be shortlisted over the coming weeks prior to the meeting of the jury at the headquarters of the ‘Defensor del Pueblo Andaluz’ and chairman of the jury, Jose Chamiso, when the successful applicants will be decided.

El Ayuntamiento llega a un acuerdo con Casares Golf Gardens para que los vecinos tengan un 15% de descuento en su gimnasio El Ayuntamiento de Casares a través de la Concejalía de Costa ha llegado a un acuerdo con Casares Golf Gardens para que los vecinos empadronados en el municipio puedan acceder al gimnasio del complejo deportivo con un descuento de un 15% sobre las tarifas establecidas.

Según explica el concejal delegado de Costa, Juan Jesús Rodríguez, desde el Ayuntamiento se informará próximamente de las fechas en que los interesados se puedan pasar por las oficinas municipales (Ayuntamiento de Casares, Oficina Municipal de la Costa y Tenencia de Alcaldía del Secadero) para tramitar una

tarjeta descuento.

Los beneficiarios de este descuento deberán presentar cada vez que accedan a las citadas instalaciones deportivas dicha tarjeta y su DNI. Juventud abre el plazo de inscripción en el IV Concurso de creación musical “Artistas jóvenes”

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, a través de la delegación de Juventud, informa que hasta el próximo 28 de enero permanecerá abierto el plazo de inscripción para participar en el IV Concurso de creación musical “Artistas jóvenes”.

Todos aquellos grupos musicales que quieran presentarse al concurso deberán inscribirse en la delegación de Juventud, sita en la Plaza de Las Flores. Los grupos deberán presentar una maqueta con los temas originales.

El premio, como viene siendo habitual en ediciones anteriores, es la grabación de un CD de promoción de los grupos finalistas.

Además de un premio especial FNAC y premio especial de la Diputación de Málaga, Área de Juventud.

Una vez realizada la selección de los 10 grupos para la final, ésta se celebrará el próximo día 29 de enero, en el Salón de Actos del IES Monterroso, a partir de las 17:00 horas.

En la pasada edición participaron un total de 10 grupos, con edades entre 14 y 30 años. El CD fue grabado en un estudio de Estepona

y contiene tres temas del primer premiado, dos temas del segundo, y uno del tercero y del cuarto, del que se hizo entrega de 100 copias para cada grupo.

Los temas incluidos en el trabajo fueron los siguientes: Mr. Jeckyll (El mecanismo de K.O, El último asalto, Habitación o), Baraka (Quiero soñar, Eres mi alegría), X-Tinción (La Unión) y Crom (Competición en el ritmo). Además, el acto contó con la actuación de los grupos Mr. Jeckyll (Rock) y Baraka (Flamenco).

Rosa Díaz ha destacado el apoyo y protagonismo que desde la delegación de Juventud se ofrece a los artistas jóvenes locales, y ha explicado que con esta actividad se pretende fomentar la expresión artística a través de la música, promocionando nuevos grupos jóvenes, y proporcionarles la oportunidad de darse a conocer con el CD promocional.

Entries invited for the fourth edition of the music contest - “Young Artists” Estepona’s youth department has announced the entry period for this year’s “Young Artists” creating music contest will be open until 28 January.

All those bands who wish to enter must register with the delegación de Juventud, located in the Plaza de Las Flores, Estepona and submit a demo of original songs.

As in previous years the prize is a professional recording of a promotional CD featuring the finalists, there will also be a special prize presented by FNAC, and a special prize from the Malaga Youth Council.

Ten groups will be selected for the final which will take place in the performance hall at IES

Last year ten group, with ages between 14 and 30, made the final and the CD featured three tracks from the winners, two from the second place and one from the third and fourth placed bands. Each group received 100 copies of the CD as a prize.

El peaje de Guadiaro a Estepona de la AP-7 congela su precio Un respiro para el bolsillo entre tanta subida de precios. La sociedad concesionaria de la Autopista del Sol (AP-7) mantendrá congelados este año los precios del tramo entre Guadiaro (San Roque) y Estepona (Málaga) según consta en la Orden del Ministerio de Fomento del 29 de diciembre.

Así, según la citada orden ministerial, la tarifa para vehículos ligeros en el nivel tarifario normal será de 1,80 euros. En el caso de la tarifa especial, que la concesionaria aplica en periodos vacacionales y verano, el importe quedará en los 2,95 euros, tal y como se ha venido cobrado durante 2010. Es el tramo más usado por los campogibraltareños

para evitar las 13 rotondas de la A-7 y la limitación a 80 por hora.

Sí hay cambios en los precios de los otros dos tramos hasta Málaga. El tramo de Estepona a Marbella en tarifa normal mantiene su precio (2,60 euros) y aumenta en 5 céntimos en el caso de la tarifa especial (4,25 euros). El tramo de Marbella a Málaga se incrementa en 5 céntimos en la tarifa normal (pasa a 3,85 euros) y 10 en la especial (se queda en 6,30 euros). Así, ir desde la comarca a Málaga por la AP-7 costará 8,25 euros en tarifa normal y 13,50 en la especial. En 2010 eran 8,20 y 13,35 euros. Los incrementos son inferiores al 1,5%.

Tolls frozen on Guadiaro to Estepona stretch of AP-7 toll motorway Cintra, the company that holds the concession to collect tolls on the AP-7 Guadiaro to Malaga toll motorway, have announced that the charge for the Guadiaro to Estepona section will be frozen this year, at 1.80 euros during the off peak season and 2.95 euros during the summer and holidays.

The stretch from Estepona to Marbella will

remain at 2.60 euros during off peak, with a small rise of 5 cents in the peak rate taking it to 4.25 euros.

The Marbella to Malaga section will rise by 5 cents to 3.85 in off peak and by 10 cents to 6.30 during high season. The new rates represent an increase of less than 1.5% for the entire motorway.

Estepona’s Sports Department has reported that Estepona will be hosting the International Taekwon-Do Federation of Spain Annual Assembly (FITE) which will take place on 28, 29 and 30 January the town’s El Carmen Sports Pavillion, and will bring together schools and clubs from across the country, including Galicia, Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Tenerife, Andalucia, etc.

At this assembly, which will be conducted

by Master Carlos Martín Requejo, who

also holds the Presidency of the sport’s International Federation, decisions will be made on the programme of activities for the year both nationally and internationally including the European Championships and the World Championships to be held in North Korea.

Los vecinos de Estepona podrán fraccionar la totalidad de los impuestos en 2011 El Ayuntamiento de Estepona informa que los contribuyentes podrán solicitar también el próximo año el abono de los tributos municipales de manera fraccionada, según el convenio suscrito entre el Patronato de Recaudación Provincial y el Ayuntamiento.

Mediante el Plan de Pagos Especial 2011 (PPE), el Patronato ha implantado para el próximo ejercicio un sistema voluntario de pago fraccionado para hacer frente, de una forma más cómoda, al Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles de Naturaleza Urbana (IBI), la Tasa de recogida de Basura, el Impuesto de Actividades Económicas (IAE), y el Impuesto de Vehículos de Tracción Mecánica (IVTM).

Las tres modalidades de fraccionamiento son las siguientes: - En dos pagos (en abril y octubre).

- En tres pagos (en abril, julio y octubre).

- En nueve pagos (en los meses de marzo a noviembre).

En 2011, los usuarios sólo dispondrán de este medio para fraccionar las deudas de padrón anual en período voluntario, por

lo que se denegarán todas las solicitudes que se presenten fuera del sistema del PPE; posteriormente, quien lo desee, las podrán fraccionar, pero en período ejecutivo, con lo que recargos e intereses que correspondan (Ordenanza Fiscal Reguladora de las Especialidades de los Procedimientos de Aplazamientos y Fraccionamientos de Pago publicada en el BOP Nº 32 de 17 de febrero de 2010).

Detienen a dos presuntos atracadores a un furgón blindado en Estepona Agentes de la Policía Nacional de la Comisaría de Estepona (Málaga) han detenido a dos personas como presuntos responsables del asalto a un furgón blindado de transporte de fondos, aunque la investigación sigue abierta y no se descartan nuevas detenciones.

En concreto, el pasado día 11 de Enero se procedió a la detención de ambos individuos, el primero de 31 años, natural de Córdoba (Argentina) y domiciliado en Estepona (Málaga) con antecedentes por robo con fuerza y el segundo, de 28 años, natural de Buenos Aires (Argentina) y domiciliado en Manilva (Málaga) con varios antecedentes.

Los hechos investigados tuvieron lugar el pasado 10 de septiembre, cuando, al menos tres individuos armados con pistolas asaltaron a tres vigilantes de la una empresa de transporte de fondos, que en esos momentos se encontraban en un centro comercial de la localidad de Estepona efectuando la retirada de fondos del establecimiento y reponiendo el efectivo en un cajero automático instalado en el lugar.

Como consecuencia de los hechos resultaron heridos dos personas, uno de los vigilantes de seguridad que fue golpeado repetidamente con un arma de fuego, causándole diversas lesiones de las que aún continua convaleciente, y una mujer que se encontraba en las inmediaciones y que fue herida de bala en una pierna.

Además, uno de los presuntos autores consiguió apoderarse de dos cajas que contenían 120.000 euros en efectivo. No obstante, el individuo abandonó el botín, que fue recuperado en su totalidad, según ha informado la Policía Nacional en un comunicado.

Posteriormente, funcionarios adscritos a la Brigada Local de Policía Judicial de Estepona iniciaron una investigación e identificaron en primera instancia a un ciudadano argentino afincado en Estepona como uno de los presuntos autores del hecho.

Más tarde, se consiguió la identificación de un segundo individuo, compatriota del anterior y compañero de trabajo de una empresa de transporte que da servicio a una cadena de supermercados, a la que presta su servicio la empresa de seguridad.

Two arrested for last year’s armed robbery at Estepona store Officers from Estepona’s National Police force have arrested two men in connection with the assault on an armoured security truck last year.

The two individuals, one a 31 year-old living in Estepona, and the other a 28 year-old residing in Manilva, are both Argentinean nationals and have a history of criminal activity.

They were arrested for the robbery of cash from a security van collecting cash from the Carrefour store on Avenida Litoral, Estepona last September 10, when at three men

armed with pistols robbed the guards of cash containers. As a result of this attack one of the guards was beaten repeatedly with a gun causing injuries from which the guard is still recovering, and a woman passerby was shot in the leg.

Despite grabbing some 120,000 euros in cash, the robbers abandoned the haul whilst making their escape, and all the money was recovered.

Police have not ruled out further arrests in the investigation.

“Conoce tu pueblo”

Quiero en primer lugar desear un próspero año 2011 a todos nuestros ciudadanos y ciudadanas. Entrando ya en materia te comentaré que el pasado junio de 2007, asumimos la Alcaldía de Manilva, con el reto de enderezar el rumbo de este Ayuntamiento. Nuestro principal compromiso fue racionalizar la gestión económica y política y convertir el Ayuntamiento en el gobierno de todos los ciudadanos de Manilva, en la voz del pueblo.

Durante estos cuatro años nos hemos volcado en dos tareas, la disminución del déficit económico y fundamentalmente en la construcción de infraestructuras, que nos consta que están produciendo un gran cambio en la imagen de nuestro Municipio en el exterior.

La tarea está siendo complicada por los motivos que todos conocemos. A la crisis económica que tanto nos acucia y que está asolando la Costa del Sol, ha habido que añadirle la inestabilidad política.

No obstante, y a pesar de los obstáculos, tengo el total convencimiento de que si

La finalidad es de dar a conocer a los ciudadanos del municipio, los lugares más emblemáticos de nuestro pueblo, de esta

proseguimos en esta línea, vamos a ser capaces de colocar a Manilva en el lugar que se merece por su riqueza histórica, cultural y social.

Es el momento de ser optimistas, de creer en nosotros mismos y en nuestros políticos, ya que si en las peores circunstancias estamos siendo capaces de sobrevivir, los éxitos que se nos avecinan van a ser extraordinarios.

Finalmente no quiero dejar pasar la oportunidad de mostrar mi más profundo agradecimiento a todos los hombres y mujeres que me están ayudando en esta maravillosa tarea, que no son conocidos, ni aparecen a diario en los medios de comunicación, pero sin los que el camino no se hubiera podido andar….Y cómo no a aquellas otras personas que independientemente de su ideología se mantienen en la lucha diaria, para que entre todos podamos hacer un Manilva mejor… puesto que nunca debemos olvidar que el futuro de Manilva es el futuro de todos nosotros.

“Know your town” The Departments of Civil Participation, Youth and Sports, and Foreign Residents are launching a programme of events under the title “Know your Town”.

Information from the Mayoress´s office about social aid available, regarding the payment of the annual council tax on property The municipality of Manilva has adopted a social aid plan, in order to reduce the council tax on certain properties for the next two years.

The beneficiaries will be those owners of a single dwelling, which is for their own residence, as defined by tax legislation and for which the rateable value does not exceed 200,000 euros. (cadastral value).

A message from Antonia Muñoz, Mayoress of Manilva I would firstly like to take this opportunity to wish a Happy and Prosperous 2011 to all the citizens of Manilva.

Looking back to June 2007 when I assumed the Mayorship of Manilva, the challenge was to turn the tide of the municipality’s fortunes.

Our chief commitment was to rationalise the economic management and policies and to give Manilva a government of the people in which every resident has a voice.

During these four years we have concentrated on two main tasks, improving the economy and reducing the town’s debt; and improvements to the infrastructure, in which much has been achieved to promote Manilva’s image to the rest of the world.

These tasks have been made all the more difficult for reasons of which we are all aware, the economic crisis that has impacted on us to a large extent, to which is added the political instability.

However, despite these obstacles, I am secure in the conviction that if we continue along this path, we will be able to give Manilva the name it deserves for its historical, cultural and social wealth.

It is a time to be optimistic and to believe in ourselves and our politicians, because despite the worst we have survived and from now on the future will only bring extraordinary success.

Finally, I must take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to all the men and women who are assisting me in this task, many of whom work tirelessly in the background, and of which most of you will not be aware, but without whom we would not be able to achieve what we have. And whilst on the subject, I’d like to thank everyone, who regardless of their ideology are working for a better future, since Manilva must never forget that its future is the future of us all.

Visita al Zoo

Así mismo visitaremos un zoo, de un municipio cercano, dónde podrán tener contacto con alguno de los animales y a continuación tendremos un picnic, todo ello a unos precios populares.

Merienda con mamás y niños

Tendremos la ocasión para un encuentro entre madres e hijos, para ello hemos querido organizar una merienda en la cafetería “Fina” en Sabinillas, en la Plaza Salvador Rueda, mientras que las mamás conversamos y compartimos opiniones, los peques podrán jugar y divertirse juntos.

“Día Internacional de familias” (Family fun day)

En el mes de Mayo, queremos celebrar un día de encuentro con familias de diferentes lugares del mundo.

Para ello contaremos con música, bailes, desfile de trajes típicos, juegos infantiles y una gran paella.

Contaremos con la actuación de diferentes grupos musicales y el coro Asabam.

Un Sábado al mes podremos disfrutar del mejor arte en el monumento del Castillo de la Duquesa. Diferentes artistas de nuestra localidad podrán exponer y vender sus obras en un lugar privilegiado.

Queremos invitar a todos los amantes del arte a participar en esta iniciativa, que queremos perdure a lo largo del tiempo.

Desde esta delegación queremos ofrecerles un servicio de atención y una variedad de actividades, para fomentar la participación y seguiremos trabajando para mejorar la calidad de nuestro servicio.

Clases de español para extranjeros

Día 4

Comenzamos nuestro programa de actividades con el primer día de la tapa del trimestre Febrero, Marzo y Abril.

Aprovecharemos la ocasión para presentar el programa para estos meses.

En esta ocasión hemos elegido el bar, restaurante “El Rey Arturo”, en Sabinillas, podremos degustar unas excelentes tapas en un agradable ambiente y unas vistas inmejorables.

Saint Patrick´s day

Queremos compartir este gran día, en un lugar típico de Irlanda de nuestro municipio, os invitamos a que compartáis este evento donde no podrá faltar la música, comida, juegos infantiles, etc... y por supuesto lleva algo verde..

Contaremos con la actuación del coro “Asabam”, entre otros.

Continuamos con las clases de español para residentes extranjeros, en el edificio de usos múltiples en Sabinillas.

Toda aquella persona que esté interesada deberá dirigirse directamente y hablar con el profesor Even.

Curso de Fotografía

Durante los meses de Marzo y Abril, contaremos con un profesional de la fotografía, quién impartirá clases de diferentes niveles de este emocionante arte.

Tendrán lugar en el Castillo de la Duquesa e informaremos de los horarios y precios en breve.

“Gastronomía Internacional”

Para finales del mes de Marzo y como continuación de la actividad de “gastronomía internacional”, hemos elegido un restaurante Hindú, “Mumbai Palace”, situado en el paseo Marítimo de Sabinillas, con una exquisita cocina y un agradable ambiente.

El precio es de 12€ por persona, incluyendo un suculento buffet con los platos más característicos del país (bebidas no incluidas en el precio).

Actividades en Villa Matilde

No queremos olvidar a los más peques de la casa, para ello estamos organizando una serie de actividades.

Hasta ahora venimos impartiendo clases de manualidades y pintura los Viernes por la tarde en Villa Matilde, ahora también les ofreceremos cada Sábado por la mañana, cine, cuenta cuentos, teatro, baile, etc.

Excursion to Benaoján

PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES GREETING

International Artists’ Market One Saturday every month the Castle in Castillo de la Duquesa will open its doors to different artists from the area to display and sell their works in this beautiful setting. A must for art lovers to browse a variety of pieces and pick up some treasures for the home.

Manilva’s Foreigners Department continues with its aim to encourage the integration and participation of the foreign residents in the local community and with this in mind the department has organised a busy programme of activities and events for the coming months which is hoped many of you will take advantage of and participate in.

Whilst some of the final details and dates have yet to be confirmed here is a list forthcoming events for February, March, April and May

February 4 The programme begins with the popular ‘Tapas Day’ which this time will be held at the ‘Rey Arturo’ bar/restaurant situated on the promenade in Sabinillas. During the event there will be a presentation of the full programme of events and activities for the coming months.

The first drink and tapa is courtesy of the Town Hall’s Foreigners Department vouchers for which can be picked up from the department’s office in the Castle at Castillo de la Duquesa.

Located in the heart of the Serrania de Ronda this traditional White Town enjoys a unique environment. Visit the cuevas de la Pileta caves and other landmarks of the town. Sample the typical local fare and country products.

‘International Day of the Family’ - Family fun day

Saint Patrick’s Day We’d like to share in the celebrations of this traditional Irish festival with a party and invite everyone to join in. Traditional food, music, games, etc., and of course the theme will the colour green. There will also be a performance by the Coro Asabam music group.

In May we celebrate ‘International Day of the Family’ with a party for Manilva’s families from around the world. Enjoy a day of music, dance, fashion parade, children’s games and a giant paella. There will be live music from different bands and the Asabam choir. The party will be held in the Parque del Castillo de la Duquesa park next to the Castle.

Spanish classes for foreigners Spanish classes for foreign residents continue this term in the Usos Multiples building in Sabinillas.

Any person who is interested should go directly and make enquiries with the teacher Even.

Photography Course During the months of March and April there will be photography course taught by a professional photographer, who will teach different levels of this exciting art.

The course will be held at Castillo de la Duquesa - timetable and prices will be published soon.

International Cuisine

Children’s activities at Villa Matilde A number of activities have been organised for the younger members of the community. Up until now these have included craft and painting classes at the Villa Matilde on Friday afternoons, and now we can offer films, storytelling, theatre, dancing, etc., every Saturday morning at the same venue.

Visit to the Zoo In the coming months the department will be arranging a visit to a local zoo, which will include a picnic lunch.

Mothers and children There will be a mothers and children lunch organised which will be held at the ‘Fina’ cafeteria in Plaza Salvador Rueda, Sabinillas, where mums can get together to chat, share information and opinions, whilst the kids enjoy themselves.

Continuing the ‘International Gastronomy’ programme towards the end of March it will be the turn of India, with a visit to the ‘Mumbai Palace’ situated on the promenade in Sabinillas. Enjoy the fine cuisine and friendly atmosphere of this Indian restaurant.

The price of 12 euros per person includes a delicious buffet, with a selection of typical Indian dishes (drinks not included in the price).

The Foreign Residents office can be found in the Castle in Castillo de la Duquesa and is open from 8 am to 3 pm, Mondays to Fridays, to help and advise with any problems incurred by foreign residents registered in the municipality of Manilva.

La Alcaldesa de Manilva (IU) informa sobre las mejoras en el Puerto La Alcaldesa de Izquierda Unida Antonia Muñoz, en comparecencia a The Resident se ha declarado muy satisfecha de las mejoras que se vienen produciendo en el Puerto de la Duquesa y ha ido desgranando una por una todas las actuaciones para conocimiento de nuestros vecinos.

De esta manera la Señora Alcaldesa se declaró muy orgullosa, de que tras varios años de lucha, se haya podido concluir la obra que ha logrado que desaparezca la fosa séptica que se encontraba a la entrada del Puerto de la Duquesa, conectando el saneamiento a la red general, y que dará paso a una nueva zona ajardinada que se culminará pronto con una gran fuente.

También proclamó su satisfacción por haber podido acometer el proyecto de peatonalización de la calle Los Arcos y de la plaza los Delfines que mencionó que se convertirá en una nueva zona comercial de gran importancia.

En el repaso efectuado, no quiso dejarse atrás el gran cambio en la limpieza, la eliminación de la maleza de las zonas verdes, la reparación del alumbrado y la habilitación del nuevo aparcamiento; actuaciones que han supuesto un gran coste para nuestras arcas, pero que por el contrario han permitido que recibamos una felicitación unánime por parte de nuestros visitantes.

Finalmente quiso mencionar la labor realizada en la Entidad Urbanística El Hacho en la que se está tratando con gran esfuerzo, de que las cuentas se equilibren, como paso previo para proceder a su disolución definitiva.

En palabras de Antonia Muñoz “teníamos una gran deuda con el Puerto, cuando nos hicimos cargo estaba abandonado y hemos demostrado que con ilusión podemos convertirlo en una de las zonas más emblemáticas en la Costa del Sol”.

El pasado fin de semana la Alcaldesa Antonia Muñoz (IU) y el Concejal Mario Jiménez (IU) informaron sobre el estado de las obras en el municipio en los próximos días.

En este sentido avanzaron, se va a iniciar un nuevo plan de asfaltado y remodelación de calles que afectará a todo el término municipal, y que supondrá la continuación del trabajo que se viene realizando desde el inico de la legislatura; asimismo anunciaron la reparación de la entrada al Castillo de la Duquesa con un nuevo acerado y la implantación de un jardín, y como primicia adelantaron que se va a proceder a la licitación de un nuevo aparcamiento subterráneo con capacidad para unas 170 plazas y que se culminará con una gran zona verde en superficie y que permitirá ganar nuevos espacios a la ciudadanía.

Sobre las obras de gran interés comentaron,

que se va a abrir al tráfico la carretera del Peñoncillo de forma inminente, que las obras de la continuación del Paseo marítimo del Castillo avanzan a buen ritmo, y reclamaron el máximo interés para la apertura de un nuevo parque urbano en Manilva, concretamente en la zona de la Horca, junto al campo de fútbol; que contará con una superficie superior 3000 metros cuadrados y estará equipado con juegos infantiles, merenderos, un circuito de senderismo y una zona de ocio.

Tal y como indicó Antonia Muñoz “el pueblo nos dio la confianza por cuatro años y hasta el último día vamos a demostrar que hemos sido dignos de ser elegidos. A pesar de las elecciones, nuestro trabajo no va a terminar hasta que no tome posesión la nueva Corporación y la demostración palpable es que desde el primer día hasta hoy, en ningún momento se han dejado de hacer obras y mejoras en el pueblo”.

After years of difficulties a recent improvement has been the removal of the old septic tank which was the source of so many problems and bad odours in the port. This has been replaced by a connection to the general sewerage network. Replacing the tank has enabled the construction of a new garden area and fountain.

Works are also almost completed on the pedestrianisation of Calle Los Arcos and Plaza los Delfines, which will create a pleasant

area for visitors to stroll and will benefit the businesses that border those thoroughfares.

Council workers have also been busy cleaning, weeding, repairing streetlights, creating new car parking areas and generally improving the public areas in the Port, all at no little cost to the town hall coffers. All these efforts have been well received by residents and visitors alike.

Finally I’d like to mention the great efforts being made to balance the accounts of the Entidad Urbanística El Hacho, so that this body can finally be dissolved.

In the words of Antonia Muñoz “we owe a great debt to the Port, and after years of neglect we have found a way forward to making it one of the highlights of the Costa del Sol”.

Infrastructure report on forthcoming works Recently the Mayor, Antonia Muñoz (IU) and Councillor Mario Jiménez (IU) presented a progress report on various works due to begin in the coming days.

These include plans for road resurfacing and remodelling which will affect the entire municipality and adding to the improvement works already completed by this administration, they also announced a scheme to repair and improve the entrance to Castillo de la Duquesa, with new pavements and gardens. They have also announced that tenders are being invited for the building of a new underground car park with 170 parking spaces and once completed will be topped off with a large

green area, for the enjoyment of the public.

Other news of great interest was that the Peñoncillo road will very shortly be reopened; the project to continue the Paseo Maritimo to Castillo was coming along well; and one of the most important developments was the new park in the La Horca area of Manilva, next to the football ground will soon be completed providing 3000 square metres of green space, playgrounds, picnic areas, and hiking trails.

In the words of Antonia Muñoz “the people put their trust in us for four years, and right up until the last day of this administration we will repay that trust, and despite the elections our work will not cease until a new government takes over the Town Hall”.

La Alcaldesa y la Concejala de Asuntos Sociales hacen The Mayor of Manilva and Councillor for Social Affairs report on the first campaign for social assistance balance de la primera campaña de ayudas sociales El pasado mes de diciembre y debido a la penosa situación económica por la que atraviesan algunas familias residentes en Manilva, las Ediles Antonia Muñoz (IU) y Paqui López (IU) adoptaron por primera en la historia del Ayuntamiento de Manilva, la resolución de otorgar una ayuda de 475 euros a aquellas unidades familiares empadronadas en Manilva, con hijos a cargo cuyas rentas no superaran los 450 euros mensuales; a cambio de esto los beneficiarios deberían prestar servicios en beneficio de la Comunidad, previo requerimiento de la Trabajadora social durante al menos 70 horas mensuales.

Una vez finalizado el procedimiento tanto Antonia Muñoz como Paqui López mostraron su satisfacción al haber podido ayudar a cincuenta y dos familias del municipio y lograr en la medida de lo

posible que hayan podido disfrutar de unas navidades más amables. En todo caso y como mencionó la Señora Alcaldesa “sabemos que ha sido una medida pionera en la historia del Ayuntamiento y que el momento que atraviesan las Administraciones no es el más boyante.

No obstante estamos estudiando la forma de poder dar una mayor estabilidad a esta medida, de forma que sirva a todas aquellas familias que se encuentren en situaciones extremas y excepcionales. “No queremos que nadie se acomode a las ayudas pero estamos dispuestos a apoyar a la gente que lo necesite para que se reintegre en la Sociedad con dignidad. Además no es una limosna, puesto que los beneficiarios deberán pagar con su trabajo los ingresos que obtengan”.

Talk Radio Europe Telethon raises over 23.000€ for Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice

Talk Radio Europe, the renowned radio station, broadcasting on the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca, once again held their annual radio auction in aid of Cudeca on Friday, 10th December. The show was hosted by the TRE team alongside some special guests and there was also an array of musical talent performing live on air in the studio.

The auction opened for live bidding at 10am and by midday, the atmosphere in the studio was alive and buzzing with listeners partaking in the bidding frenzy which lasted

until late that night. Cudeca also received lots of generous donations and dedications and together with the items sold, we managed to raise over 23,000€ for the Hospice Centre and donations are still coming in!

Cudeca would sincerely like to thank all the staff at Talk Radio Europe for their support, to all those generous businesses and individuals who donated items for the auction, to all the volunteers for their continued help and to all those who participated in the auction!

The International Club of Estepona will be holding their Annual General Meeting of the Club on Thursday, 3rd March 2011 in the Club House at Bahia Dorada - Entrada 4 or 5 at km 149 on the A7.

“… Sobre papel” es una exposición colectiva comisariada por Conchi Álvarez para la Galería de Arte Stoa de Estepona, que puede visitarse desde el 2 de diciembre hasta el 25 de febrero de 2011.

El título es una invitación al espectador a interactuar con las obras de arte, atreviéndose a rellenar los puntos suspensivos con su personal apreciación, tanto de cada obra individual, como del conjunto.

Sin duda no hay nada más sencillo y, por qué no decirlo, económico, en estos tiempos difíciles, que el papel o el cartón.

Y es que se puede hacer arte sobre un pedazo de papel de embalar, sobre una cuartilla o un trozo de cartón procedente de un envoltorio cualquiera y, ¡qué mejor reciclaje!

The history of Gibraltar and the neighbouring regions of Southern Spain during the 18th and 19th centuries is portrayed in the latest exhibition at Estepona Port Business and Internet Centre from the 15th January to the 14th February. Artists, many of them army officers together with eminent artists of the day recorded events as they saw them. Alongside them were chart makers from France, Spain and England, again many drawn from the officer’s corps in their respective services, army and navy, and

army engineers with their detailed diagrams of fortifications, who made charts, maps and diagrams that now tell a powerful story. Now you can see just a fraction of their work.

A watercolour of Gibraltar as seen from Algeciras in the 18th century by an unknown army lieutenant, sketches taken inside the tunnels during the siege, again by an army officer, to ‘The Battle of Trafalgar, as Seen from the Mizzen Starboard Shrouds of the Victory’ by the famous artist J.M.W. Turner.

Simon Starling - CAC Málaga hasta 23 enero El Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga presenta Recent History, una selección de obras del artista británico Simon Starling. rusas se tratara. Una representación conceptual del pensamiento que rige su proceso de trabajo, a través del cual una idea o descubrimiento sigue a otro hasta desvelar inesperadas conexiones temporales e históricas. La exposición ha sido organizada por el CAC Málaga y el próximo mes de febrero itinerará a la Tate St Ives, gracias al acuerdo de colaboración suscrito entre ambas instituciones. Es la primera vez que Starling visita España tras ganar el Turner Prize en el año 2005

Turner Prize winner comes to the CAC Málaga The 2005 Turner Prize winner, British artist Simon Starling, is showing a selection of his works at the CAC Contemporary Art Centre in Málaga.

His show ‘Recent History’ consists of a series of works which show his interest in the history of art institutions.

The centrepiece of the show is a nine metre long model of the CAC building itself, made using materials taken from the walls of the building itself. The building dates from 1942 when it was constructed as wholesale market

during the Franco years, and that story has fascinated Starling.

‘The building was a starting point for conceiving the exhibition’, he told the press at the inauguration ceremony, saying it caught his attention when he first visited. He said he had been allowed onto the roof to ‘experiment with scale’.

‘Recent History’ remains at the CAC Málaga until January 23 2011 after which it moves on the Tate St Ives.

Estepona Floral Art Club The Estepona Floral Art Club will welcome Tom Hodge, NAFAS National Demonstrator from Southport, on Tuesday, 15th February 2011. This will be a very entertaining afternoon of colour and design.

The club would like to apologise for any inconvenience with the closure of the Benavista Country Club in January, which has been their venue for the past few years, and are sorry that it has closed. The club would like to wish Trevor and Debbie every success in their new venture and thank them for all their support that they gave the Club.

We plan to make our articles interesting to read and the workouts easy to do anywhere. For specific advice, make contact with us and let this New Year be happy and healthy!

The Personal Trainer

In December we showed you 3 exercises that will help you lose inches and tone up all body parts. Over the next 3 months we will give you 7 more exercises to make up a complete circuit The workout works well in a gym but can even be done a home; all you need is a chair and a skipping rope, a bar and a timer.

The aim is to do each of the 10 exercises for 45 seconds, then 30 seconds and if can manage it 20seconds.You may not manage this on the first couple of attempts, that’s ok, take a very quick rest when you need to then carry on …after each exercise take a 10 second rest, after each round of 10 rest for 60 seconds.

Warm up Take a walk, use the stairs, walk around your urbanization anything so that you feel you need to remove a layer of clothing.

Dead lift For this you really need a bar with weights either ends, it’s a fantastic workout that targets many muscle groups, back, abs, hamstrings, shoulders. It burns many calories and is a fundamental exercise for core strength.

You start with legs hip width apart, arms the same, bend knees slightly and tip your hips behind you, keep the back flat and look straight ahead, grab the bar with 2 hands and stand up straight, now bend the knees and put the bar down, that is 1 rep.

Don’t let January be a let down, it can be an opportunity for a pick me up! January can be quite a depressing month, as all the exciting activities associated with the cold and damp weather has come to an end. Budgets have been blown and there are no excuses for parties any more. Let’s use January to take the time to give our bodies a breather! Not a detox but just an opportunity to cleanse.

This time reminds me of when I was a young(er…) and “Noel Edmonds Swap Shop” was on TV. It was particularly great during January when unwanted Christmas presents were swapped for better ones. So let’s do a swap shop for us, swapping the excess feeling for healthy and clean.

III Torneo de Reyes EPF Ciudad de La Línea 2011 La Tercera edición del Torneo de Reyes se celebró el pasado día 2 de enero hasta el 5 del mismo mes, siendo de un total éxito en cuanto a organización y participación de equipos, 518 jóvenes , 32 equipos y un numeroso público asistente durante los cuatros días que duró el torneo. Las categorías que se disputaron un hueco en las finales fueron desde jóvenes desde los 4 años hasta los 13, comprendiendo desde las categorías de yogurines (4-5 años) , prebenjamines ( 6-7 años), benjamines (8-9 años), alevines (10-11 años), infantiles (12-13 años). Las finales se disputaron el miércoles en jornada matinal. El lugar de encuentro , Guadacorte ( Las Marismas) Los Barrios. La organización de este bonito evento , la Escuela Profesional de Fútbol Ciudad de La Línea, la cual puso en “juego” su lema Su Hijo Sólo Es Un Niño No Un Futbolista, siendo acogido con gran aceptación y empatía por parte de todos los presentes. En este torneo participaron equipos de la localidad de La Línea, Algeciras, Los Barrios y de

Manilva . A destacar la actiuación llevada por los jóvenes de la Escuela Municipal de Manilva, consiguiendo 3 victorias de los cuatro encuentros disputados.

También en categoría Benjamín se realizó un destacado papel, del mismo modo que los alevines de la Unión Manilva e Infantiles. La Delegación de Deportes del Ayuntamiento de Manilva por conseguir el trofeo que acreditó como campeón en su categoría prebenjamín a los manilveños les preparó una merienda y los jóvenes de la escuela pudieron disfrutar de una tarde muy entrañable.

Mencionar que gracias a la colaboración del Ayuntamiento de La Línea, de los Barrios y Fitin Guadacorte, así como a los patrocinadores Restaurante Ke en el puerto de sotogrande y Restaurante La Marina en la Línea de la Concepción, Deportes Pajares en Sabinillas y The Resident se pudo celebrar una nueva edición de este ya clásico torneo de Reyes en el campo de Gibraltar.

Unión Estepona Club de Fútbol destituye a José Luis Burgueña La junta directiva de la Unión Estepona Club de Fútbol, presidida por Eugenio Muñoz, ha acordado esta semana destituir a José Luis Burgueña como entrenador del equipo de Segunda División B. Además del segundo entrenador José Luis Moncayo y el preparador físico Pedro Aragonés.

El Estepona ocupa el puesto de promoción de descenso con 22 puntos, tras el empate a cero conseguido el domingo en el campo del colista Jumilla CF. Tras disputarse las primeras veintiuna jornadas de Liga el Estepona ha sumado cinco victorias, siete empates y nueve derrotas. La última

victoria la consiguió a primeros del mes de diciembre en Lepe, donde ganó 1-2 al CD San Roque. Después ha disputado cinco partidos sumando tres derrotas y dos empates.

El malagueño Antonio Montero ¨Nene¨ es el nuevo entrenador del equipo. Antonio Moreno fue entrenador del desaparecido Club Deportivo Málaga, a finales de los años ochenta, además del Melilla, Marbella, Polideportivo Almería, Xerex Club Deportivo, San Fernando, Motril, Ceuta, Linares, Badajoz y Lucena..

Estepona sacks coach José Luis Burgueña The board of Estepona Union Football Club, headed by Eugenio Muñoz, agreed this week to dismiss José Luis Burgess as coach of second division B club. In addition assistant coach José Luis Moncayo and fitness coach Pedro Aragones were also let go.

III EPF Kings Tournament - La Linea The Third edition of the Kings Tournament was celebrated between the 2nd and 5th January, and saw the participation of 518 youngsters representing 32 teams, along with numerous assistants and spectators during the four days of competition. The ages of the teams ranged from 4 to 13 and the finals were played at Las Marismas - Guadacorte, Los Barrios.

Organised by the La Linea Professional Football School under the banner “Your Child is Just a Child, Not a Professional Footballer!” the tournament included teams

from La Linea, Algeciras, Los Barrios, and Manilva.

The youngsters from Manilva put on a great performance winning 3 of their 4 matches, and the 6-7 year olds took the trophy in their category.

La Liga Educativa organizada por Diputación Provincial Del Málaga celebró su cuarta jornada En la localidad de Estepona , en el Muñoz Pérez , el pasado 15 de enero sábado se disputó una jornada de liga educativa de escuelas municipales de fútbol donde Manilva y Estepona compitieron en las diferentes categorías, siendo una jornada expléndida, de buen fútbol de ambas escuelas, e incluso de un tiempo primaveral. Felicitar a ambas escuelas por sus actuaciones y actitudes ; todo un

ejemplo a seguir, ya que el buen ambiente desarrollado en el césped es un ejemplo a seguir , de esta manera los jóvenes se formarán a la vez en ricos valores, que al fin y al cabo es lo verdaderamente importante, ser buenas personas, claro si además se puede enlazar con ser buenos jugadores; aunque la filosofía de las escuelas entroncan más con el fútbol como medio y no como fin.

IV Torneo de Padel “Cuesta de Enero” La delegación de Juventud y Deportes del Ayuntamiento de Manilva organiza, un año más, el torneo de padel “Cuesta de Enero” para los días 28, 29 y 30 de enero.

Las categorías serán absoluta masculina, femenina y mixta. A partir de los 16 años cumplidos siendo empadronados.

Los premios será para los campeones palas wilson, para los subcampeones paleteros

y los campeones de consolación regalos.

Para inscribirse pueden dirigirse a la delegación de Juventud y Deportes sita junto al campo de fútbol las viñas. La fecha estará abierta hasta el 25 de enero con un precio por pareja de 15 euros.

IV January Padel Tournament Once again Manilva’s Youth and Sports Department is organising the annual January Padel Tournament, which will take place on 28,29 and 30 January.

Entries are invited for couples over 16 years old in the Men’s, Womens, and Mixed categories.

Winners will receive Wilson racquets, whilst

there will also be prizes for the runners-up.

Malaga Provincial Football School League meeting Estepona’s Francisco Muñoz Perez Stadium hosted a day of educational league football on Saturday 15 January. Taking part were the municipal football schools from Estepona and Manilva who competed in various different categories.

The fine weather added to the great atmosphere and both sides should be

congratulated both for their footballing skills and for their attitude and sense of fair play, which is as an important part of the training schedule as the football. Whilst it is important to produce good players the philosophy of school football is that it should be a means not just an end.

Pruebas de fórmula 1 en Jerez

Para despedir el año el Club Internacional de Esgrima junto con el Patronato de Deportes de San Roque ha organizado la primera Competición Amistosa Internacional de Esgrima.

La competición se dividió en varias edades, menores de 10 años, de 15 años y absolutos tanto en categoría femenina como masculina.

Pequeños y grandes tiradores acudieron a la cita en el Polideportivo Municipal de San Roque en una mañana lluviosa que sin embargo contó con el calor y la ilusión de participantes y organizadores.

Tomaron parte más de 70 deportistas de los principales colegios internacionales de la Costa del Sol y Campo de Gibraltar así como de la Escuela de Esgrima de Manilva y Escuela Municipal de Esgrima de Estepona.

La afluencia fue masiva por parte de los recién estrenados tiradores de esgrima de la Escuela Deportiva de Base creada en la presente temporada en San Roque y que ha tenido una magnífica acogida. Desde aquí damos las gracias al Ayuntamiento de San Roque y los responsables de deporte base por estimular la práctica de deportes nuevos y en concreto de esta disciplina a caballo entre la belleza de la danza, la agresividad de las artes marciales y la estrategia del ajedrez.

Todos los participantes y sus familias así

como el numeroso público que acudió a la competición disfrutaron de la magnífica exhibición de estos deportistas. Para algunos de ellos fue su primera prueba demostrando una gran competitividad y juego limpio que les hicieron acreedores de trofeos, medallas y premios conmemorativos para despedir el año.

Los ganadores en categoría absoluta fueron Paul Holder, Phil Adams, Olatz Bilbao y Eduardo Lozano que realizaron unos espectaculares asaltos rememorando los antiguos duelos de antaño.

Hay que agradecer a todos los colaboradores del Patronato de Deportes y Turismo y Ayuntamiento de San Roque, los magníficos trofeos de J. Esquivel y a todas las fuerzas vivas y miembros del Club Internacional de Esgrima por su entrega y buen hacer.

Después de la competición se realizó la clásica comida de Navidad en el Restaurante Swing donde continuó el buen ambiente. Agradecemos a los padres su esfuerzo por estimular a sus pequeños tiradores y deseamos a todos un magnífico año 2011, a los antiguos esgrimistas y a aquellos que os acercáis por primera vez a este maravilloso arte, bienvenidos a la gran familia de la Esgrima.

Great turnout for the first International Friendly Fencing Competition in San Roque To round off the year Estepona’s International Fencing Club together with San Roque’s sports department, organised the first International Friendly Fencing Competition.

The participants competed in Under 10, Under 15, and ‘Absoluta’ both men’s and women’s categories.

Some 70 fencers of all ages and abilities, representing the main local international fencing clubs from the Costa del Sol and the Campo de Gibraltar along with the municipal fencing schools from both Estepona and Manilva.

All participants and their families as well as the large crowd that attended the competition enjoyed the magnificent

display from these athletes, some of whom were competing for the first time.

Winners at senior level were Paul Holder, Phil Adams, Olatz Bilbao and Eduardo Lozano who put on a spectacular display recalling the old duels of yesteryear.

The International Fencing Club of Estepona would like to thank the Foundation for Sports and Tourism and the Municipality of San Roque, the magnificent trophies provided by J. Esquivel and all the members of the International Fencing Club for their dedication and hard work.

La entrada general cuesta 10€ o 20€ por una entrada VIP que le permitirán acceso a la grada. Niños entre 3 y 14 entran a

mitad de precio.

Las entradas se pueden obtener en la taquilla el día de las pruebas (las entradas no pueden ser compradas con antelación).

La taquilla abre desde las 8.00h. Las prueban tendrán lugar de las 9.00h hasta las 17.00h con entrada al público de las 10.00h hasta las 17.00h

Formula 1 testing at Jerez Petrolheads amongst The Resident’s readers will be glad to hear that Jerez will once again be hosting a pre-season testing session at the Circuito de Jerez on the weekend of 10 to 13 February. As usual the testing sessions are open to the public and are a great opportunity to grab a slice of F1 action at a fraction of the normal cost.

Entrance is 10 euros for general entrance or 20 euros for a VIP ticket which gives you

access to the stand by the pits. Children between the age of 3 and 14 years pay half price.

Tickets must be obtained at the circuit box office on the day of testing (tickets cannot be purchased in advance).

The box office is open from 8 am; testing takes place from 9 am to 5 pm with public admittance from 10 am to 5 pm.
