Ante todo me gustaría aprovechar esta oportunidad para desearos un Feliz Año Nuevo y confiar que os sintáis relajado, recuperado y dispuestos a cargar baterías para este nuevo año. A pesar de las obvias dificultades en el clima económico actual, se aprecia un optimismo en el aire, el cual todos necesitamos, después de todo, la mayor contribución a la recesión es la falta de optimismo consumista.

Hablando con profesionales inmobiliarios, se cree que los bancos tendrán que empezar a ofrecer las propiedades que están en su posesión debido a los impagos en las hipotecas y a los impagos en los negocios. La opinión en la calle dice que esto es lo que la mayoría de los inversores están esperando, y una vez que esto ocurra, empezaremos otra vez en el mercado inmobiliario a nivel local y nacional, ¡nada como el insostenible boom inmobiliario de los noventa!.

Siempre he pretendido deliberadamente enfocar nuestras ediciones en asuntos locales, pero esta vez no será así, una vez más aprovecho esta oportunidad para estar al lado de la gente de Haiti, los cuales han sufrido tánto en los últimos 18 meses con una sucesión de huracanes y ahora, para más, el devastador terremoto de principio de semana.

Es importante valorar nuestros propios problemas y comparar lo que otras personas tienen que hacer frente.

Cualquiera que quiera donar para recaudar fondos para dicho desastre lo puede hacer en la página web de la Cruz Roja www.cruzroja.es Con el tema de las donaciones, quizás los banqueros puedan recuperar su imagen contribuyendo en dicha causa.

A escala menor también nosotros nos hemos visto envuelto con la madre naturaleza y hemos visto lo que ésta puede hacer, parece que el tiempo nos da una tregua y le decimos adiós al terrible tiempo que hemos tenido durante un mes.

En algunas zonas el agua ha alcanzado niveles muy alto, afectando a la infraestructura, agricultura y viviendas, pero por lo menos no hemos tenido ese intenso frio sufrido en la mayoría de las regiones del norte. Mirando el lado optimista, este año no tendremos problemas de agua ni cortes de suministro, por lo tanto no nos tendremos que preocupar por ello. ¡Hasta el mes próximo!

First of all I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year, and trust that you are all suitably rested, restored and recharged ready to face the coming year.

Despite the obvious difficulties of the current economic climate, there is a detectable buzz of anticipation and optimism in the air, which we all need to foster, after all a major contributor to the recession is the lack of consumer optimism.

Talking to property professionals, it is also anticipated that the banks will have to start offloading the properties that they have been lumbered with due to mortgage defaults and business failures.

The consensus of opinion is that this is what many of the major investors have been waiting for, and once this happens it should kick-start the local and national property markets, albeit nothing like the unsustainable boom experienced in the mid-noughties.

I have always deliberately kept my editorials focused on local matters, but I will break this habit for once, as I’d like to take this opportunity to share my sympathies with the people of Haiti who have suffered so much over the past 18 months with a succession of hurricanes and now, to top it all, the devastating earthquake earlier this week. It is important to put our own problems in perspective when we see what others have to face. Anyone wishing to donate to the disaster fund can do so online at www.redcross.org.uk/ emergencysite/ or www.dec.org.uk On the subject of donations, maybe the bankers who are currently lining up for their fat bonuses could redeem their image by contributing a sizeable lump to the Haiti appeal.

On a much smaller scale we also have had to deal with what Mother Nature can throw at us, and it is with a sigh of relief that we say goodbye to the dreadful weather over the past month. With some areas experiencing around 18 inches of rain, local infrastructure, agriculture and property have taken quite a battering, but at least we’ve not had the extremes of cold suffered by more northerly regions. But looking on the positive side, one thing we certainly won’t be worrying about this coming year will be water shortages.

Plan MEMTA de Empleabilidad en el municipio de San Roque Tras superar una serie de vicisitudes durante el proceso de tramitación, el próximo lunes día 18 se iniciará el Plan de Empleabilidad del municipio. Este Plan fue solicitado por elAyuntamiento, a través de la Agencia Municipal de Desarrollo (Amdel), y supondrá la contratación de 17 personas en situación de desempleo por parte de la Mancomunidad de Municipios, todos ellos seleccionados por el Servicio Andaluz de Empleo (SAE) entre los apuntados al denominado Plan MEMTA. El alcalde, Fernando Palma, y el teniente de alcalde delegado de Amdel, Manuel Melero, han mostrado su satisfacción porque “por fin, tras un año de espera se va a iniciar en San Roque el MEMTA (Plan de Medidas Extraordinarias para la Mejora de la Empleabilidad de las Personas Demandantes de Empleo)”. Melero apuntó que, “no obstante no cumple las expectativas iniciales, pues la subvención del SAE sólo asciende a un tercio de lo solicitado, de manera que tan sólo se beneficiará un grupo reducido de personas.

En cualquier caso, en los próximos días está previsto que el Ayuntamiento ponga en marcha su propio plan

MEMTA, de 40 beneficiarios”.

Por lo tanto, el Plan que comenzará a funcionar el lunes beneficiará durante tres meses a 17 personas en situación de desempleo, que podrán obtener cualificación laboral en sectores laborales para los que existe demanda de trabajadores o, por contra, les permitan adquirir una categoría profesional superior a la que cuentan en la actualidad.

Ha sido el propio Servicio Andaluz de Empleo el que ha realizado la selección de los/as personas que van a ser objeto de contratación por parte de la Mancomunidad de Municipios del Campo de Gibraltar, teniendo como criterios para efectuar dicha selección los establecidos en el Artículo 2.1 de la Orden de 31 de octubre de 2008 que regula este plan extraordinario, es decir pertenecer al colectivo de desempleados MEMTA. El objetivo material de este Plan de Empleabilidad es la mejora y acondicionamiento de espacios e infraestructuras urbanas del municipio de San Roque, por lo que las categorías profesionales de las personas que se van a contratar se encuadran en las ocupaciones de Albañilería, Pintura y Limpieza.

Unemployed to benefit from employment plan After numerous obstacles and delays, this week sees the commencement of San Roque’s Employability Plan.

This plan was petitioned for by the Town Council’s Municipal Development Agency (Amdel) and will provide employment for 17 people who are currently unemployed, and were selected by the Andalucian Employment Service (SAE) under the MEMTA Plan.

San Roque’s Mayor, Fernando Palma, stated that he was relieved that “finally, after a year’s delay the MEMTA plan of extraordinary employment measures was due to commence in the municipality.

The aim of the scheme is to provide formative employment for three months during which the employees will receive onthe-job training towards providing them with the necessary skills to secure employment. They will be employed on various projects which at the same time will improve the local infrastructure and environment in the municipality of San Roque, with the accent on masonry, painting and cleaning skills.

Urbanismo espera que las obras del nuevo cementerio municipal se inicien a finales de año El teniente de alcalde delegado de Urbanismo, José Antonio Ledesma, ha mostrado su “confianza” en que a lo largo de 2010, “posiblemente a finales de año”, se inicien las obras del futuro cementerio municipal, “aunque también es cierto -precisó- que las instalaciones no podrán estar operativas hasta 2014 o 2015”.

Ledesma ha indicado que “este asunto irá al próximo Pleno de la Corporación, el día 26 de enero” y como “se considera un asunto de Estado para el municipio, se ha alcanzado el consenso entre todos los grupos políticos municipales, lo cual es un gesto que agradezco profundamente.

Es muy importante que olvidemos las diferencias políticas cuando se tratan cuestiones de tanta transcendencia y que despiertan tanta sensibilidad entre la población” El edil explicó que “inicialmente, el Ayuntamiento iba a iniciar el expediente de expropiación de estos terrenos, situados en el entorno de los Puertos de Valdemorillo, frente al Casino de San Roque. Después de una serie de reuniones, hemos llegado a un acuerdo con los propietarios del suelo para una modificación puntual (del PGOU), que se aprobó inicialmente en la Gerencia Municipal de Urbanismo del pasado 18 de diciembre, así como en la Comisión Municipal Informativa de Urbanismo de la misma fecha.

Ahora este asunto se llevará al Pleno del día 26”.

“Tras la aprobación inicial en el Pleno -continuó Ledesma-, estará un mes en exposición pública, para la presentación de alegaciones, recursos y también para propuestas medioambientales que puedan mejorar el proyecto”.

Recalcó que “lo importante es que el Ayuntamiento va a obtener, de manera gratuita, un suelo de seis hectáreas de extensión calificado como sistema general de equipamiento-cementerio.

Y, además, a cambio de la recalificación de los terrenos cercanos para la creación de una superficie comercial, se ha acordado con la empresa propietaria de los mismos que construirá el cementerio hasta un límite de tres millones de euros”. En su opinión, “las obras podrían iniciarse en el último trimestre de 2010”.

Para Ledesma “la creación de esta zona comercial dará vida al Casino y a su entorno, y supondrá no sólo crear nuevos puestos de trabajo, sino también mantener los ya existentes”.

El teniente de alcalde mostró su “satisfacción porque se pone en marcha el proyecto de un nuevo cementerio para la Ciudad, una cuestión prioritaria en la que se está trabajando desde hace varios años pero que no se había podido impulsar antes.

En cuanto al futuro de los cementerios ya existentes (Casco, Estación, Bahía y Guadiaro), en su momento se llegará a un consenso entre todos los grupos políticos para ver qué destino tendrán y qué servicios se prestarán desde los mismos”.

Work to begin on new San Roque cemetery by end of the year Juan Antonio Ledesma, San Roque’s Councillor for Planning, has stated that he is confident that works should begin later this year on the new municipal cemetery, although it is unlikely that they would become operative before 2014 or 2015.

The subject will be a point of order at the forthcoming plenary council session to be held on the 26th January, where a consensus has already been reached between the various political factions.

The land earmarked for the new cemetery is in the Puertos de Valdemorillo zone, in front

of the San Roque Casino, and was initially to be the subject of a compulsory purchase order, but after a number of meetings with the owners an agreement has been reached whereby an adjustment has been made to the PGOU town plan which will allow the development of a commercial site in exchange for the land, thus providing a six hectare plot at no cost to council coffers.

After initial approval in next week’s plenary session, the plans will go on public display for a period of one month during which objections and suggestions can

be lodged.

The deal with the land owner also requires that they construct the cemetery up to a cost of 3 million euros.

Ledesma went on to say that “apart from the cemetery, the creation of a new commercial zone will breathe life into the Casino and surrounding area, creating new jobs and guaranteeing existing ones”.

El Ayuntamiento de Casares pide la declaración de zona catastrófica para el municipio El Ayuntamiento de Casares ha enviado un escrito a la Delegación de Gobierno de la Junta de Andalucía para pedir que se declare zona catastrófica el Termino Municipal de Casares y se habiliten las ayudas correspondientes para compensar la pérdida de rentas de los agricultores, así como la mejora y arreglo de las infraestructuras dañadas.

Como explica la alcaldesa, Antonia Morera, en el citado escrito, en los últimos 10 días de diciembre Casares sufrió una serie de temporales, con escaso tiempo de diferencia, aportando una gran cantidad de precipitaciones a consecuencia de las cuales los ríos y arroyos que atraviesan el municipio sufrieron crecidas notables, produciendo localmente daños sobre la infraestructura viaria, carriles y carreteras.

Dichos desbordamientos también han producido graves perjuicios en los cultivos agrícolas, de hecho al Ayuntamiento de Casares se han dirigido agricultores afectados pidiendo la declaración de zona catastrófica ante la enorme pérdida en la producción, que se estimaría en un 80 por ciento de la misma.

Según los informes emitidos por los técnicos municipales de Medio Ambiente “tras una visita de comprobación verifican que realmente

se ha producido una fuerte perdida por caída de la fruta al suelo, siendo esta fruta desechada por su afección de pudrición y las abolladuras. El resto que permanece en árbol, esta afectado parcialmente por hongos a causa de la excesiva humedad y a la posible perdida de pies arbóreos por la muerte radicular por la prolongada inundación”.

Unas perdidas que se concentran principalmente en las explotaciones agrícolas de los valles del río Guadiaro y Genal, donde se localizan 65 fincas agrícolas de regadío, siendo de estas 50 fincas dedicadas a cítricos con una superficie de 2.692 hectáreas.

En cuanto a los daños causados a la red de caminos rurales, los informes municipales señalan que las principales infraestructuras dañadas son el camino de los Pescadores, desde la población de El Secadero hasta su unión con la carretera de Manilva (A-377) con socavones en una longitud aproximada de 5 kilómetros; El Camino de los Molinos (3,4 kms.) con roturas de firme, cuneta, desprendimiento de taludes y deslizamiento de tierras; Además de múltiples destrozos en el Camino de Jimena, Camino de Loma Matutes y Camino de las Hoyas, afectando gravemente a la transitabilidad y seguridad para el paso de vehículos.

Casares seeks aid for damage caused by recent flooding Local authorities in Casares have petitioned the Junta de Andalucia to declare the municipality a ‘disaster zone’ and make available grants and compensation for agricultural losses and damage to infrastructure caused by recent torrential rains.

The Mayoress, Antonia Morera, informed the regional government that in the last ten days of December Casares suffered a continuous succession of downpours which led to flooding on many of the municipality’s rivers and streams damaging roads and tracks. These floods have also led to serious damage to local agriculture in some cases with a loss of 80 percent of crops.

Se celebró una concurrida charla y presentación por parte de una de nuestras socias, BernadeĴe, enfermera militar que ha estado trabajando en Gibraltar durante bastantes años.

La charla y demostración, fue interesante, ya que nos dio ideas de como actuar, antes de que llegara la ambulancia, en el caso de que una persona desfalleciera debido a un infarto.

BernadeĴe contestó a todas las preguntas y permitió a todas aquellas personas asistentes y que quisieran, practicar con un muñeco.

Se ofreció té y se celebró los cumpleaños de Enero, dando gracias y aplausos a BernadeĴe. Una tarde muy informativa y entretenida para todos.

No olvidaros del baile de San Valentín, el domingo 14 de Febrero.

There was a large turn out for the “Basic Life Saving” lecture presented by one of our members, Bernadette, a military nurse who has worked for many years in Gibraltar.

The lecture and practical demonstration showed how to deal with a situation, before the ambulance arrives, in the case of a person who has collapsed with a suspected heart attack.

Bernadette answered all the questions that were asked and allowed members to try practice on the patient (dummy).

Tea was served, the January birthdays were celebrated, and a vote of thanks was offered to Bernadette which was met with warm applause. A very informative and enjoyable afternoon was enjoyed by all.

been affected by fughi due to the humidity, and many trees have been damaged by waterlogging of the root systems.

Areas particularly badly affected are the Guadiaro and Genal valleys where some 65 farms have suffered, 50 of them citrus farms which normally begin their harvests later this month.

Regarding infrastructure, several roads have been severely damaged, and in some cases rendered impassable. These include Camino de los Pescadores, from El Secadero until its junction with Carretera de Manilva (A-377) some 5 km; The Camino de los Molinos (3,4 kms.); and serious damage to the Camino de Jimena, Camino de Loma Matutes and Camino de las Hoyas.

Manilva estará presente un año más en la feria internacional de turismo más importante del mundo Fitur que se celebra cada año en Madrid y lo hará de la mano del patronato de turismo de la Costa del Sol. Además para ello contará inicialmente con la colaboración del Hotel Duquesa Suite, el Goleto, Manilva Green y el hotel Don Agustín, establecimientos hoteleros que han aceptado la propuesta realizada en su día por el departamento de Turismo, Promoción e Imagen, que dirige Noelia López.

En la pasada edición, 12.312 empresas expositoras de 170 países o regiones, 136.177 profesionales participantes y 8.470 periodistas se reunieron en FITUR para convertir el ocio en negocio y el negocio en desarrollo para los destinos que acogen a los millones de viajeros que los visitan y disfrutan.

Manilva’s youth department has organised a musical event dedicated to the rock music of the 50’s to the 80’s.

Entitled “Rock and Alboran” the event will take place in the Youth Pavilion, next to the football ground in Manilva on the 5th February.

Manilva at FITUR 2010 Manilva will once again be represented at this year’s FITUR travel trades fair, to be held in Madrid later this month.

The Manilva team will form part of the Costa del Sol Tourist Board’s representation at the 30th edition of this important world travel and tourism show to be held from the 20th to 24th January, and will include the councillor for Tourism, Promotion and Image, Noelia López, along with local hoteliers from La Duquesa Suites Hotel, El Goleto, Manilva Green, and Hotel Don Agustin.

Entrevista con Diego Urieta, Concejal de Extranjeros Le preguntamos: -¿Cómo va la concejalía de extranjeros?

-Bueno, ahora mismo estamos un poco aterrizando, conociendo la realidad de lo que es la población extranjera residente en nuestro municipio y en principio, contento con la herencia recibida por parte del anterior concejal, que creo que en los dos últimos años ha estado trabajando bastante duro con este colectivo y sobre todo, somos consciente que más del 40% de la población censada en nuestro municipio es extranjera, por tanto no podemos permanecer al margen de este colectivo tan importante. De momento queremos romper con lo que es la barrera del idioma, que es quizás lo que nos diferencia más, así que se está potenciando lo que son las clases de español para extranjeros, tanto a través del Ayuntamiento como a través de la Mancomunidad.

También a partir del primer trimestre del año vamos a sacar un díptico de actividades dirigida a este colectivo, no sólo de índole lúdica, de fiestas, sino también actividades formativas, actividades de formación sobre derechos y deberes sobre la población extranjera, en fin, queremos trabajar con dicho colectivo.

- ¿Qué tipo de información se está dando actualmente y cuáles tenéis pensado dar en el futuro inmediato?

-Ahora mismo se está llevando una campaña sobre empadronamiento, que es el primer requisito y una de las condiciones para que la población pueda tener derechos, no solo a votar sino la posibilidad de poder reclamar. Ahora se está haciendo a través de la mancomunidad una campaña de empadronamiento y a partir de ya, vamos a empezar a realizar campañas formativas como pueden ser: la ley de la dependencia e información a cerca de impuestos como pueden ser el IBI. Creo que hay mucho desconocimiento en este tema porque normalmente en los países de orígenes funcionan de diferente manera a España, lo haremos para que todas las personas que residen casi todo el año en Manilva, sepan cuáles son sus derechos, cuáles son sus deberes, porqué se paga ésto y no lo otro, si se puede fraccionar el IBI... en fin, hay mucha tarea por hacer - ¿Vais a hacer algo en cuanto a urbanizaciones?

- A través de extranjeros, queremos focalizar diferentes problemas en diferentes urbanizaciones, de hecho tenemos previsto un calendario de

reuniones con diferentes asociaciones del municipio, para saber de primera mano cuál es su problemática, como por ejemplo a través del área de extranjero, se nos ha transmitido la necesidad de incrementar la seguridad, la limpieza, el arreglo de viales en el Hacho o en Aldea Beach, donde me comentan de la necesitad del acondicionamiento de las playas. A través de extranjeros vamos a centralizar lo que son las inquietudes de los colectivos para transmitirlos a diferentes delegaciones a través de alcaldía.

- ¿Daréis información sobre cómo montar un negocio?

-Es muy importante lo que me estás comentando, muchas veces los residentes españoles de aquí, a lo mejor no sabemos de primera mano cuáles son realmente las inquietudes del extranjero, muchas veces por medio de Chris Olsen, que es inglés y como sabéis trabaja para el ayuntamiento en la oficina de extranjero, conocemos realmente dichas inquietudes y preocupaciones, por ello, queremos abrir un buzón de sugerencias, tanto a través de correos electrónicos o a través de la delegación.,

donde puedan hacer preguntas y así nosotros podemos ver en qué realmente están preocupados e interesados.

De extranjeros, y sobre todo la población inglesa, que es la más numerosa, ya que el 35% son ingleses hay fundamentalmente dos colectivos: uno es el de personas de edad avanzada, jubiladas y pensionistas con un nivel adquisitivo medio alto que tiene una serie de inquietudes y otro es el colectivo, que viene a buscarse la vida, como cualquier ciudadano de España. A este último colectivo hay que hacer hincapié, porque parte de lo que es la economía local, depende de lo que es el colectivo extranjero que están abriendo negocios, por tanto trabajaremos con ellos a través del área de extranjero y a través del área de empleo y personal.

Para todas las empresas de nueva creación en Manilva hay una ayuda concedida por el ayuntamiento, que se aprobó en pleno. También hay ayudas por parte de organismos supramunicipales como son diputación y sobre todo de la Junta de Andalucía que también se le pueden solicitar ayudas. Habría que hacer quizás un formulario, o si hay que hacer una reunión con los empresarios, yo no tengo inconveniente alguno. Ya estuvimos en el Puerto de la Duquesa y nos reunimos con algunos empresarios y en febrero queremos reunirnos otra vez y ver temas de negocios, y luego, ampliarlo al municipio para dar información a todos ellos: derechos, deberes, ayudas…

A todos aquellos que vengan a montar un negocio en Manilva, por parte del ayuntamiento se le va a apoyar y facilitar, dentro de nuestras posibilidades todo lo máximo posible, al fin y al cabo todo lo que genere riqueza para el pueblo es bueno. De momento el que abre un negocio se le hace promoción gratuita en la radiotelevisión, una cuña gratuita, ya que tenemos los medios y tenemos el personal, queremos facilitar y favorecer al empresario.

-¿Hay propuestas o novedades en tema educativo?

El tema educativo es una problemática por parte de los padres como por parte de los profesores. En Manilva hay más de 70 nacionalidades distintas, todo excepto guarderías, depende de la Junta de Andalucía y sabemos que el Municipio de Manilva es el que más ha crecido en los últimos años de toda la provincia de Málaga, sin embargo el número de profesorado no ha crecido en proporción, nos encontramos por una parte que tenemos centros saturados de muchos niños y nos encontramos que tenemos un montón de nacionalidades juntas, pero a través de actividades extraescolares se están dando clases de español para extranjeros, es muy importante la concienciación por parte de los padres, tendrían que asumir normas, tema horario, en fin lo que conlleva la vida en los centros educativos.

Interview with Diego Urieta, Councillor for Foreign Residents Q - How is the situation in the Foreigners’ Department?

Diego - Very good at the moment, although I have only recently taken on this department and am familiarising myself with matters concerning the foreign population in the municipality, I am very happy taking over from the previous councillor who has worked hard with this group.

I am very conscious of the fact that over 40% of the registered population of Manilva is foreign, making it an important section of the community which cannot remain marginalised.

One of the greatest barriers to integration is language, a factor which is being addressed through Spanish lessons for foreigners, both through the local council and the Union of Western Costa del Sol Municipalities. We are also preparing a programme of events and activities, not just entertainment, but also talks and seminars on the rights and obligations of the foreigners in the community.

Q - What type of information is available at the moment and in the immediate future?

Diego - We are currently running a campaign encouraging all residents to register on the town Padron. This entitles registrants to not only vote in local and European elections, but to apply for the numerous services available. Other campaigns include information about the Law of Dependency; information about local taxes, etc. It is important that people understand these subjects as I believe that these are often dealt with differently in foreigners’ countries of origin. Our aim is that all those who reside the majority of their time in Manilva, will be fully

aware of their rights and duties, and where their taxes go, and easy methods of payment, etc., in short we have a very busy programme planned.

Q - What are you going to do regarding the urbanisations?

Diego - Through the foreign community we need to focus on the different problems facing the urbanisations, and in fact we have drawn up a calendar of meetings with the community of owners of the various urbanisations to learn first hand of the concerns. Some of these we are already aware of such as security, cleaning, road maintenance, and the state of some of the beaches. Through these meetings we can draw up a list of concerns which can then be passed to the appropriate departments for action.

Q - What information can you give those wishing to set up a business?

Diego - This is an important issue, the Spanish residents are often unaware first hand of the concerns of our foreign residents, and we only hear about it through those such as Chris Olsen who works for the Manilva Foreigners Department, therefore we intend to create a suggestion box, through which people can pass on their concerns and suggestions via email, post, or through the delegation’s office. This will enable us to learn first hand of all these issues.

Regarding the foreign community, and mainly the English speaking residents, which makes up some 35% of the total of registered foreigners. These can generally divided into two groups: The first being retired expats who have seen

the value of their pensions and savings dwindle through changes in the economy; and the second group those who have come here looking for a change of lifestyle and have the same concerns as the any Spanish citizen. This last group is also very important to the local economy as many wish to start new businesses, and the Foreigners’ Department is keen to encourage and assist them in doing so.

In a recent council meeting initiatives were approved to help new businesses. There are also grants available from provincial and regional government bodies, which we can assist with. New businesses can also benefit from free promotion on Manilva Television. We have already had a meeting with businesses in Duquesa Port and plan to hold another one in February and discuss the issues concerning business proprietors and we hope to extend this to businesses throughout the municipality.

Q - Are there plans to improve local education?

Diego - The subject of education is a difficult one for both parents and teachers alike. Manilva has over 70 different nationalities, and all education centres, except for nursery schools, come under the control of the Junta de Andalucia.

Manilva is one of Malaga Province’s fastest growing municipalities, nevertheless the number of teaching staff and education resources has not grown in proportion, which has created some difficulties. Despite this much has been achieved through extra curricular Spanish lessons to assimilate the foreign pupils, and it is important for parents to be aware of the school rules, timetables, etc. so as to help with the smooth running of the schools.

This talk will be given by the Councillor responsible for Social Services, and an expert from her team, and an interpreter will be there to translate and to help with the question and answer session.

Clausurados los Talleres de Empleo de Cocina y Ayuda a Domicilio Tal y como estaba previsto, hoy se ha realizado el acto de clausura de los talleres de empleo de cocina y ayuda a domicilio.

Hasta nuestra localidad se han acercado para participar en el acto protocolario Juan Carlos Lomeña, director provincial del S.A.E, Sara García, directora de área territorial de empleo y el vocal, Pedro Sanguino.

Además han comparecido José Carlos Castaño como coordinador de dichos talleres y la directora Nora S.Gaggero.

Por su parte, representando al Ayuntamiento de Manilva, la alcaldesa de Manilva, Antonia Muñoz Vázquez y el equipo de gobierno.

Los talleres han contado con diez alumnas en cada uno de ellos, quienes se han mostrado muy satisfechas tanto de la formación como del trato recibido. Este encuentro ha servido también para entregarles el diploma acreditativo y reconocerles su esfuerzo y el cumplimiento del objetivo.

A partir de ahora, según afirmó Juan Carlos Lomeña, el fin es encontrar un trabajo e incorporarse al mundo laboral para exponer todo lo que se ha aprendido con estos cursos.

La primera edil manilveña, por su parte, dio la enhorabuena a las alumnas

agradeciéndoles su participación en los cursos y también al propio director provincial del SAE, pidiéndole el compromiso de estudiar una propuesta por parte del Ayuntamiento de Manilva para un gran proyecto de escuela taller donde la interpretación del viñedo será el centro didáctico y el fin en sí mismo. Todo ello, según Muñoz, para que los jóvenes y personas interesadas en todo lo relacionado con la uva y el vino puedan perfeccionar sus conocimientos y prepararse para ser verdaderos profesionales en la materia” finalizó.

Diego Díaz, como concejal de Fomento de Empleo se dirigió a las 20 alumnas agradeciendo su ilusión en este tipo de cursos, animándolas a introducirse en el mundo laboral de la mejor manera posible y deseándoles suerte a la hora de encontrar trabajo.

El acto estuvo acompañado de un power point para exponer un resumen de lo que han sido los dos cursos con las voces de las propias alumnas y posteriormente se hizo entrega de los diplomas acreditativos.

Para finalizar, un catering realizado acompañó a los presentes en un ambiente agradable y despidiendo así los dos cursos.

Atención in-situ a los vecinos del Castillo Todos los viernes de cada semana, y a partir del próximo 15 de enero, el teniente de alcalde del Ayuntamiento de Manilva, Diego José Jiménez, se desplazará hasta el Castillo de la Duquesa para recibir en las dependencias municipales a todos aquellos residentes de este núcleo de población y de las urbanizaciones cercanas.

El objetivo pasa, según Jiménez, por conocer de primera mano las inquietudes, problemas, demandas o peticiones de estos ciudadanos.

Graduaction ceremony for Catering and Home Help Employment Workshops Students of the cookery and home help employment workshops, organised through the council’s employment development department along with the municipal development foundation (Funmades), and the Andalucia Employment Service (SAE), celebrated the successful completion of their courses.

In a ceremony presided over by Mayoress Antonia Muñoz, Juan Carlos Lomeña, provincial director of the SAE, José Carlos Castaño, director of Funmades and coordinator of the workshops and director Nora S. Gaggero. Also in attendance were a number of councillors including Diego Diaz, Councillor for Employment Development.

After a presentation by a number of students of the workshops’ curriculum and activities, Juan Carlos Lomeña spoke of

the importance of these courses, and that it was now up to the students to find a job and put into practice the lessons learned.

The Mayoress went on then to congratulate the graduates, and thank Mr Lomeña requesting that he study a proposal submitted the Manilva town council to establish a school/workshop at the new Manilva Wine and Grape Centre where students can learn the practice and theory of grape and wine production.

Councillor Diego Diaz congratulated the twenty graduates, ten in the Catering course and ten in the Home Help course and reminded them that they now had all the skills required to find a job in their chosen field.

The ceremony was rounded off with an opportunity for those present to sample the skills of the catering course!

Poster Competition Entries are invited for a competition to design the poster for this year’s IX Manilva International Festival. There is a prize of 150€ for the winning design which will be used to promote the Festival.

Entries can be submitted at the Foreign Residents’ office any time until the 1st June, with the winner being announced on 8th June, 2010.

Fiestas organiza Cultura organiza un viaje a un crucero por Madrid, Toledo, Segovia y Ávila el mediterráneo La Delegación de Fiestas, está organizando en la actualidad un crucero por el Mediterráneo en el barco denominado Navegación, de Ibero Cruceros, para el próximo mes de abril. La salida está prevista entre los dias 11 ó 18 del citado mes desde Barcelona.

La Delegación de Cultura informa sobre el Viaje a Madrid, Toledo, Segovia y Ávila que se llevará a cabo desde el 26 de Febrero al 1 de Marzo.

Consumo informa que ya están a disposición de los empresarios los nuevos libros de reclamaciones La delegación de Consumo ha informado que a partir de mañana martes los empresarios que lo deseen pueden pasarse por las oficinas de la citada delegación y adquirir el nuevo libro de reclamaciones.

Cabe recordar que este nuevo libro salió en junio del 2008.

El precio de este libro es de 2 euros y es la primera vez que se podrá retirar desde la oficina de Consumo ya

que anteriormente había que desplazarse a Málaga con el gasto adicional que esto supone.

Hacienda ha informado de la implantación, por parte del Patronato De Recaudación Provincial, de un sistema de pago fraccionado Según informó el concejal de Hacienda, Diego Díaz, el Patronato de Recaudación Provincial, de acuerdo con el Ayuntamiento, mediante una carta, ha informado a los ciudadanos de la implantación, para el ejercicio 2010, de un sistema voluntario de pago fraccionado, con el fin de que se pueda abonar los tributos municipales de una forma más cómoda.

El contribuyente podrá elegir entre varias modalidades de pago; una de ellas es la que se realiza en el periodo voluntario tradicional, de acuerdo con el calendario que se apruebe.

En este caso, el ciudadano no tiene que presentar ninguna solicitud.

Si se decide pagar de manera fraccionada, sí que se ha de presentar la correspondiente solicitud. Se puede hacer en dos pagos, en abril y octubre; o en tres, en abril, julio y octubre; o en nueve, desde marzo a noviembre. Si se acoge a la modalidad de nueve pagos, el plazo para la solicitud de este sistema finaliza el 29 de enero; y si se prefiere la de dos o tres pagos, dicho período expira el

26 de febrero.

Los interesados han de llamar al número de teléfono 952-3670-22 desde las nueve de la mañana a las dos de la tarde; también pueden acudir a cualquier oficina del Patronato de Recaudación Provincial o requerir este servicio por internet, accediendo a la dirección www.prpmalaga.es Este año, sólo se podrán abonar por este sistema de fraccionamiento las deudas de padrón anual en periodo voluntario, por lo que se denegarán todas las solicitudes que se presenten fuera del citado sistema del plan de pagos especial.

El abono siempre se realizará por domiciliación, realizándose en los diez primeros días del mes correspondiente.

Independientemente del importe del expediente, la cuota mínima mensual debe ser superior a diez euros.

Por último, informarles que si ya se acogió a esta modalidad de pago el año pasado, y no desea modificar ningún dato, no hace falta presentar una nueva solicitud.

Manilva’s residents can pay local taxes in installments Manilva’s Finance Department has informed local residents that the provincial revenue collection agency has arranged facilities for local taxes to be paid in installments this year.

Taxpayers are offered a number of options for paying local taxes such as IBI property tax; IAE business activity tax; and IVTM vehicle road tax. These options include payment in one lump sum, in which case payment should be paid during the usual period indicated and there is no need to make any special arrangements. Other options are to pay in two payments - one in April and the second in October; or in three payments - April, July and October; or in nine monthly payments from March to November.

Applications for payment in nine installments should be made by the 29th January; whilst applications for payment in two or three installments should be made by the 26th February. This can be done by calling 952 367 022 or by visiting the Patronato de Recaudación Provincial office next to the Local Police station in

Manilva between 9 am and 2 pm.

This year only the abovementioned payment plans are available, and payments must be made by direct debit by the tenth of each payment month.

Individual installments must be more than ten euros and for residents who took advantage of this scheme last year, and do not wish to change their payment plan, then there is no need to present a new request.

Técnicas de Estudio para el alumnado de ESO y Bachillerato El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, a través de la delegación municipal de Juventud, informa que desde hoy está abierto el plazo de inscripción en un nuevo “Curso de técnicas de Estudio” destinado, principalmente, al alumnado de ESO y Bachillerato.

El objetivo, según ha manifestado hoy la edil del área, Rosa Díaz, es ofrecer recursos y herramientas que favorezcan el éxito escolar a través de las Técnicas de Estudio y, por tanto, aumentar las posibilidades de éxito escolar para que el alumnado pueda seguir adecuadamente su proceso formativo; fomentar en el alumnado la capacidad crítica y analítica que le permita una óptima comprensión de la realidad social en la que está inmerso; inculcarle el hábito de estudio que le servirá para presentes y futuros procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje; y asentar los pre-requisitos cognitivos, como puedan ser razonamiento, memoria, atención y concentración, que le ayude a las tareas escolares cotidianas.

Los contenidos del curso son los siguientes: Técnicas de estudio, Organización del espacio, Organización del tiempo, Lectura de rastreo y comprensiva, El subrayado, El resumen, El esquema, Notas al margen, La memoria, La atención y la concentración, Cómo enfrentarse a un examen y Técnicas de relajación.

En cuanto a la metodología, las clases combinarán una parte teórica, que será desarrollada de forma breve y concisa, con una parte eminentemente práctica, ya que las Técnicas de Estudio, para su asentamiento y para que sean efectivas, “necesitan de una continua puesta en práctica mediante ejercicios y diversas actividades”, ha explicado Patricia García, de la “Asociación Desarrolla-T”, que impartirá el curso.

El curso tendrá una duración de mes y medio y el precio es de 60 euros por mes/alumno, si bien los alumnos menores de 14 años o quienes realicen su solicitud a través de la delegación de Juventud y tengan el Carnet Joven tendrán un precio de 50 € . Las clases darán inicio el 26 de enero y se impartirán martes y jueves, de 17:00 a 18:30 horas.

Los contribuyentes podrán fraccionar los pagos de los impuestos en 2010 Los vecinos de Estepona podrán fraccionar los impuestos este año gracias al Plan de Pagos Especial 2010 (PPE), por el que los usuarios podrán abonar los distintos impuestos de forma fraccionada, según el convenio suscrito entre el Patronato de Recaudación Provincial y el Ayuntamiento de Estepona, lo que evidencia que no habrá supresión de tasas, a pesar de ser una medida aprobada en pleno el pasado mes de septiembre, así como que tampoco hubo intención alguna de que eso ocurriera.

Así las cosas, mediante el Plan de Pagos Especial 2010 (PPE), el Patronato, del que en su día se cuestionó la legalidad

de la encomienda del cobro de la tasa de la Basura, ha implantado para este ejercicio un sistema voluntario de pago fraccionado para hacer frente al Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles de Naturaleza Urbana (IBI), la mencionada tasa, el Impuesto de Actividades Económicas (IAE), y el Impuesto de Vehículos de Tracción Mecánica (IVTM).

A partir de este año, los contribuyentes podrán pagar en dos plazos, en nueve pagos o en tres, estando obligado en cualquiera de los casos a solicitarlo en las oficinas de recaudación en Puertosol, vía telefónica o a través de Internet.

En las próximas semanas darán inicio las obras de construcción del IES El Carmen de Estepona, adjudicadas a la UTE Diego Soto-Bonifacio Solís El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, a través de la delegación municipal de Infancia y Educación, informa que en las próximas semanas darán inicio las obras de construcción de un Instituto de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria en la zona de “El Carmen”, cuyo Expediente 00201/ISE/2009/ SC recientemente se ha publicado el Boletín Oficial de la Junta de Andalucía, BOJA. El Ayuntamiento ha tramitado ya la licencia de obra para ejecutar esta infraestructura educativa, a falta del informe topográfico para proceder al acta de replanteo.

La Consejería de Educación, mediante la Dirección General del Ente Público Andaluz de Infraestructuras y Servicios Educativos, adjudicó el pasado 17 de diciembre las obras de construcción de este nuevo Centro Educativo a la Unión Temporal de Empresas (UTE) formada por Diego Soto S.L./Construcciones Bonifacio Solís S.L., mediante concurso, por procedimiento abierto y tramitación ordinaria, y cuya licitación fue publicada en el BOJA 140 del 21 de julio de 2009. Esta actuación se enmarca en el Plan Mejor Escuela que la Consejería de Educación, a través del Ente Público Andaluz de Infraestructuras y Servicios Educativos (ISE Andalucía), está llevando a cabo en toda Andalucía, y con ella se pretende dar respuesta a las necesidades educativas de Estepona, que actualmente cuenta con tres IES en el centro urbano y uno en la zona Este.

El centro educativo, que tendrá tipología D3 (tres aulas por cada uno de los niveles de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria), creará 360 puestos escolares para un alumnado entre 12 y 16 años, y contará con casi 3.213 m2 construidos sobre una parcela de 5.578 m2 cedidos a la Junta en la zona de Las Mesas, en las proximidades del actual CEIP “El Carmen”.

El pliego de condiciones, que contemplaba un plazo de ejecución de las obras de 15 meses, ha sido mejorado por la adjudicataria, rebajándose a 12 meses, y está presupuestada en 3.153.628,57 € (el equivalente al presupuesto base de licitación 2.718.645,32 € más IVA), ascendiendo a 3.377.199,15 € el presupuesto base de licitación, IVA excluido.

El centro contará con todos los espacios necesarios para un instituto de estas dimensiones: en la zona docente se ubicarán las 12 aulas polivalentes de Secundaria Obligatoria,

dos aulas de apoyo a la integración, un aula de música, dramatización y audiovisual; otra de informática, una más de educación plástica y visual, un taller y un laboratorio.

También contará con diez seminarios, una biblioteca y un gimnasio con vestuarios y aseos.

Por otra parte, la zona de administración acogerá los despachos del equipo directivo, secretaría, despacho de orientación, sala de profesorado, despacho de la Asociación de Madres y Padres del Alumnado, despacho para alumnos, aseos para docentes y consejería-reprografía.

En la zona común y espacios complementarios, el centro dispondrá de una cafetería, un almacén general, aseos y vestuarios no docentes y un espacio para comedor con cocina-oficio. También tendrá porche cubierto, zona de juegos, pista polideportiva y estacionamiento.

Construction work is due to commence in the coming weeks on the new IES El Carmen de Estepona secondary school.

Work will soon commence on the new secondary school, which will be built in the area known as Las Mesas which is behind the Port at the western end of the town.

This new school will address the educative needs of Estepona with their currently being three schools in the town centre, and another to the east of the town.

The school will be built next to the current CEIP El Carmen primary school and will create 360 places for 12 to 16-year-olds with a built area of 3,213 m2 on a 5,578 m2 plot.

The school will have three classes in each of the four

levels of obligatory secondary education, with 12 multipurpose classrooms, two for integration support, music, audio-visual, and drama classes; computer room, workshop and laboratory, library, gymnasium, and offices. The contract for construction has been awarded to a local consortium comprising Diego Soto S.L. and Construcciones Bonifacio Solís S.L. Completion is expected in 15 months and the project has a value of over 3 and quarter million euros.

La Delegación de Medio Ambiente trabaja en la retirada de ramas y greeras de tierra, además del desatoro de arquetas de rios, arroyos y en la Sierra de Estepona Debido a las fuertes lluvias de los últimos días los trabajos de la Brigada de Medio Ambiente del Ayuntamiento de Estepona se han centrado en la retirada de ramas de árboles que han caído sobre el cauce de los ríos y arroyos de nuestro municipio, así como las greeras de tierra que se han desprendido hasta las cunetas y los caminos de nuestra sierra y que habían atorado algunas arquetas y tubos.

De este modo, durante las últimas semanas los cuatro operarios de la Brigada han retirado las ramas de árboles que habían atorado los tubos en el Río Guadalobón, a la altura de la Trocha. Estos mismos trabajos de desatoro se han llevado a cabo posteriormente en la parte superior del Río

Monterroso, concretamente en La Malagueña. En este último caso eran los 3 tubos que cruzaban la carretera los que estaban atascados con ramas partidas de árboles.

Por su parte, la concejala delegada de Medio Ambiente, Lina Rivas, ha destacado el trabajo de la Brigada de Medio Ambiente que “está haciendo una gran labor garantizando la seguridad ante el peligro de desbordamiento de los ríos y sobre todo, permitiendo el acceso a los caminos de la sierra”.

En este sentido, desde el mismo día de Nochebuena los operarios de Medio Ambiente han estado trabajando en el Km. 10 de la carretera de la Sierra, en concreto a la altura del Camino Forestal de la Pista

de Aerobase, donde se han retirado las greeras de piedra y tierra que se desprendieron como una lengua de barro sobre el camino y las cunetas.

Además ha sido necesario desatorar las arquetas, y retirar numerosas ramas de pinos que se desprendieron a causa de las lluvias. Hoy mismo, continúan estos mismos trabajos en el km. 13 de este mismo camino que finalizarán entre este viernes o el lunes de la próxima semana cuando se retire todas las greeras y las piedras de las arquetas con ayuda de una máquina.

Desde la Delegación de Medio Ambiente, siempre damos prioridad a solventar las situaciones de emergencia que pongan en peligro la seguridad de nuestros vecinos.

Winter programme of youth events and activities

Environment teams work hard to keep mountain roads and rivers clear of debris Estepona’s environment department has been kept busy over recent weeks removing fallen trees and landslips that have blocked roads, rivers and streams, adding to the problems already caused by the heavy rains.

In particular fallen trees and debris had blocked conduits on the Rio Guadalobon and the Rio Monterroso leading to flooding.

Estepona’s Environment Councillor, Lina Rivas, congratulated the work of the department’s team in ensuring

that the danger from flooding rivers was avoided and that the roads and tracks in the mountain areas were kept open, particularly the road by the model aircraft runway which suffered a landslide of mud, rock and trees.

The programming is as follows: January 19th: Presentation of the III Literary Contest - Estepona ‘10, aimed at youngsters entries are invited in the Poetry, Prose, and Short Story categories.

30th: Final of the III Music Creation Contest “Young Artists” at the IES Monterroso secondary school, from 5 pm.

February 1st to 20th: Exhibition by the young artist Francisco Leyton ‘Exhibition of Abstract Painting’ in the exhibition room of the ‘Casa de la Juventud’, Plaza de las Flores.

8th to 12th: Study Workshops for Secondary Students - “Working in a team and getting the most from projects”.

21st to 27th: Semana Blanca Skiing trip to Andorra.

22nd to 26th: Semana Blanca camps at Fuerte de Nagüeles

The Rex Trophy - Atalaya Golf & Country Club Eight years ago, a man and his dog used to spend most of their day at the Atalaya Clubhouse, taking their meals and ge ing to know all the members.

They were so pleased with the welcome we gave them that the man, Gunther, offered to sponsor a trophy which was used for the May Monthly Medal for several years. The dog, Rex, was very quick then but he has now mellowed to old age, secure in the care and a ention lavished on him by his owner.

Many dogs are not in this fortunate position. They have been abandoned by their owners – thrown out in a rubbish sack as puppies a few days old, discarded because they are no longer any good for hunting or for breeding and le behind as their owners flee the current financial crisis, locked in villas or apartments with no food or water. So Gunther and Rex have agreed that the Rex Trophy should be resurrected as the focal point for a charity golf day at Atalaya in aid of ADANA

(Asociación por los Derechos de Animales Abandonados), the animal rescue association in Estepona. The Commi ee members of Atalaya Golf have included the event in the calendar on 30th January 2010 and are providing all the help they can. We hope that members and their friends will support their efforts to make this a very successful day, reflecting the generosity of our great Club.

Royal British Legion Estepona has its own Branch of The Royal British Legion with over one hundred members and about half as many again who regularly visit Estepona for some part of the year because they have holiday homes here but are paid-up RBL members elsewhere. As well as that, they welcome visitors to Estepona to any of their weekly meetings.

Because they cover a very large area - from Estepona to Cadiz, in fact - they meet at two different venues.

On the first and third Tuesdays of the month the RBL meet at 12.30 at a restaurant in Estepona Port called El Cenachero which is at marina level, near Club Nautico, where an economic one course lunch is available. Some people just attend for a drink and a natter with other members and friends. On the second and fourth Tuesdays they meet at 12.30 at the restaurant called La Casona, which is on N340, on the right going towards Sabinillas from Estepona, on the next roundabout after you pass Mercadona supermarket. (When approaching from Sabanillas, La Casona is on your left, on the roundabout after the turning for Casares).

An excellent three course lunch is also available there to suit all tastes, if required.

If there is a fifth Tuesday in the month official Branch meetings are held on that day at La Casona where they have a separate room for meetings. Meetings begin at 12 noon on those occasions.

On Friday nights they book with various restaurants, at an economic rate, for upwards of twenty members and friends to enjoy an evening meal together in pleasant surroundings. The prices range from 11 to 18 euros plus a euro tip, for a three course meal. Sometimes they also include a glass of alcohol within the price. The Social Secretary, Mick Ellis, organises the venues and their PRO sends out monthly newsletters informing everyone where it will be.

On Remembrance Sunday,

about fifty five members went to Gibraltar to join in the annual Remembrance Day Service there, as they do every year. About forty of them joined in the march and were inspected by the new Governor of Gibraltar, Sir Adrian Johns. The RBL President, Dr Chris Rawlinson, laid the wreath on behalf of Estepona Branch, as usual. The rest watched from the sidelines! Afterwards the Gibraltar Branch of The Royal British Legion generously entertained all those attending, to lunch at the Royal Gibraltar Regiment Mess.

A coach was provided by the Estepona Branch, for all those who needed transport. On this occasion one of the Committee members, Geoff Morgan, stayed behind to attend The Costa Del Sol Church Service, in Sotogrande, to give an interesting address to the churchgoers, about the origins of Remembrance Sunday. Later he gave an interesting talk to the Rotary Club of Gibraltar on the same subject.

The Estepona Branch is run by a small committee. The President, who is the ‘father figure’ of the Branch, with over forty years of military service as a combatant officer, is Dr Chris Rawlinson. The Working Committee comprises the Chairman, Chris Wright, (tel.

671 846 204) who is also involved in organising the District South annual Conference; the Secretary and ‘minute taker’ - Helen Wright; the Treasurer - Jackie McIntyre, who is also the hard working Welfare Officer (tel. 678 124 902); the Vice-Chairman and PRO - Heather Butler Rawlinson; the Social Secretary - Mick Ellis; and the Membership Secretary who is Geoff Morgan. All work closely as a team ensuring that the Branch runs smoothly.

Chairman, Chris Wright, organises the annual Poppy Appeal. There are more than one hundred boxes distributed in various offices,shops, cafes, restaurants, hairdressers and other establishments and collections are also made at the Sunday Market in Estepona

Port on the two Sundays prior to Remembrance Sunday. Last year Spain South District raised over 76,000 Euros for The Royal British Legion and Estepona Branch raised nearly 8000 Euros of that. So far the final total for the money collected this year has not been finalised but it is hoped it will be a similar amount.

There are many members who work tirelessly to help raise money for ‘The Legion’. Joan and Ron Mason and their wonderful team of helpers collect ‘nearly new’ second hand clothes during the year and sell them at the International Day at Estepona Palacio de Congresos (which will be in April next year). They raise considerable sums of money doing this - over 600 Euros on the last occasion, for The Poppy Appeal. The ‘locals’ soon snap up all the bargains as soon as the stall is open and by the end of the day, very little is left. If you have any good items to donate, please get in touch with the Chairman.

Estepona welcomes everyone who is interested in the cause of raising money to help the badly wounded ex-servicemen and the bereaved families needing our support. You do not need to have served in any military organisation to become a member of The Royal British Legion. As a member you will enjoy the companionship and friendship of the other members.

You can also bring your friends along to most meetings and outings organised by the Branch.

Think long and hard about joining.

They need your help. Go along to a meeting, sooner rather than later!

Caught in the act!

A one man crime wave in Manilva’s Puerto de la Duquesa has been brought to a halt, when he snatched one bag too many last week.

On Wednesday evening an English couple, long time residents in the area, were visiting the port at around 8 pm, when the women had a bag snatched from her arm, causing her to fall over. Her plucky 80 year old husband gave chase to the man disappeared down the port’s underground garage area.

The crook managed to give him the slip and the man returned to his wife, by which time a police patrol happened to be passing.

The police, who had their suspicions as to the identity of mugger who they believed to be responsible for a number of assaults and the s, caught up with him in the port where he was arrested.

Although he had got rid of most of the loot he

had still retained the mobile phone, although he had disabled the Sim card making it hard to prove the ownership, or would have been if the couple hadn’t held on to the original packaging, which on investigation held the phone’s registration number, proving ownership much to the pleasure of the local police who had been seeking such solid evidence for some time.

The following day the man was in court where the victims identified him, and it is understood that he was subsequently convicted and deported, bringing to an end his crooked reign!

The couple, who didn’t wish to be named on advice from the police, wish to thank the local police force for their sympathy and quick resolution in this upsetting incident.

La zona de juegos del Parque del Calvario destrozada por el segundo acto de vandalismo en una semana La zona de juegos infantiles del Parque del Calvario de Estepona ha sido objeto de otro acto de vandalismo en la madrugada del sábado, por el que se ha forzado la puerta del aseo de caballeros de dicho recinto y se ha prendido fuego en su interior a la papelera. Asimismo se ha quemado uno de los ceniceros de barro del exterior del recinto.

Se trata del segundo acto de vandalismo que tiene lugar en este céntrico parque esteponero en el trascurso de una semana, ya que hace sólo unos días -concretamente la noche del viernes día 8 de Enerootro acto vandálico ocasionó graves daños al suelo infantil del recinto, así como a numerosos objetos del mobiliario urbano de las instalaciones (tales como papeleras), sin olvidar los asesos de los niños y algunos juegos infantiles.

Las primeras actuaciones por parte de la Delegación de Asistencia y Desarrollo han consistido en la elaboración de un informe del incidente para evaluar daños e inmediatamente después intentar restaurar los daños ocasionados sobre el mobiliario urbano.

Esta misma mañana han comenzado los trabajos de la Brigada de Parques y Jardines con la reparación de la puerta de uno de los aseos, además de otros trabajos de pintura y reposición de mobiliario.

Asimismo la concejala de Asistencia y Desarrollo, Lina Rivas, ha remitido un escrito a la concejala de Seguridad Ciudadana, Francisca Bernal, en el que le solicita que la Policía Local de Estepona intensifique la vigilancia en este parque con la intención de que no se produzcan hechos similares.

Calvario Park children’s area attacked by vandals The children’s play area at Estepona’s Parque del Calvario park has once again been targetted by vandals who started a fire in the toilets early last Saturday.

This is the second such act of willful vandalism in Estepona’s central park in a week, with the first being on Friday, 8th January, when some of the play equipment, street furniture and playing surfaces were damaged.

An assessment has been carried out and works

begun to rectify the damage, but it is particularly frustrating that in a recession, resources are having to be diverted from other projects to repair such mindless vandalism.

Councillor for Estepona’s Assistance and Development Department, Lina Rivas, has sent a letter to the Councillor for Public Security, requesting that the Local Police step up surveillance in the park to discourage further attacks.

‘THE WIZARD OF OZ’at ‘LOLA’S SHOWBAR’ That was the wizard that was - and a wiz of a wiz if ever there was - as Lola’s Showbar pulled out all the stops to perform a wonderfully irreverent version of the 1944 classic.

The new theatrical venue which has been attracting crowds from across the costa, not to mention the odd celebrity, has been wowing it’s audiences since it’s grand opening at the start of December.

Paul and Andrew, who run Lola’s, are seasoned West End performers. The guys have both appeared in leading roles in many professional productions in London, around the UK and internationally.

Their many roles include ‘Chris’ in ‘Miss Saigon’ at ‘The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane’, the mysterious ‘Munkestrap’ in ‘Cats’, ‘Danny and Teen Angel’ at ‘The Dominion Theatre’, ‘Claude’ in ‘Hair’ at ‘The old Vic’ and ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ at ‘The Duke Of York’s Theatre’ on ‘St Martins Lane’ to mention just a few.

Andrew was also very honoured to be nominated for a prestigious ‘Olivier’ award, the UK’s top theatre gong, for his perfomance in ‘Annie’ at the ‘Victoria Palace’ theatre in London. The Pontarddulais Male Choir - Côr Meibion Pontarddulais – established in 1960, is the most successful competitive and prestigious male choir in Wales. Estepona Floral Art Club We are delighted to be welcoming on Tuesday 16th February 2010 from Downpatrick, County Down, Ireland, NAFAS Area Demonstrator, Elizabeth Rea. We hold our demonstrations at The Benavista Country Club, Benavista, (N340, Km167, behind the shops near the tennis courts) There are ample parking facilities and accessibility of good for everyone.

Club Charity and Pleasure is a social, nonprofit organisation based in El Paraiso, Estepona. We meet at 11 a.m. each Wednesday morning at El Paraiso Country Club for coffee; our weekly activities include bridge, whist, bowls, art classes and Spanish lessons for beginners.

Other events and excursions include visits to the theatre and exhibitions, lunches and dinners at different venues along the coast, mystery trips, etc. Our full programme of events is published in our free quarterly magazine and regularly updated online.

Christmas Swim for Cudeca Estepona & District Jewish Community During the past months The Estepona & District Jewish Community has continued to hold social events and monthly Friday evening services. A General Knowledge Quiz & Supper took place in October, in November we had a presentation of Music from the Shows at which Pizza and Salads were served and finally in December we enjoyed a “ Name That Tune “ quiz combined with a delicious meal of Fish &

Chips. Once again all events were over subscribed and a good time was had by all who attended.

Our programme for 2010 will soon be announced as will the dates for our monthly Friday evening services.

Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva Charity Shop Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva, run a charity shop in Calle Zaragoza, Estepona. Staffed by volunteers the shop sells clothes for men, women and children, books, videos, crockery, glass ware, and bric-a-brac of all kinds. Everything sold is donated and carefully sorted, checked and pressed before going on sale. This means that items sold are good quality and prices are set at a level to ensure great bargains can be found. The shop is well worth a visit as so many regular customers can vouch for.

Age Concern always need more donations, so if you have unwanted Christmas presents, or have had to make room for your new presents, why not donate unwanted items to them by calling 951 318 234 during opening hours (10.00 to 13.30 Monday to Saturday inclusive), or

by dropping them off at the shop.

A group of “dippers” from the Benalmádena area, braved the seas on Christmas day 2009 to raise funds for Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice. The festive dip was on the beach at Mojacar Playa and following the brave plunge, the volunteers were rewarded with a glass of sol y sombra and a warm towel to dry off. The event was part of an organised four day trip with 114 friends staying at the local Hotel Puntazo.

Everyone had a wonderful fun day and it is something the group does every year.

“Dressing up in costume is part of the fun and the dip is actually quite invigorating!” quotes one of the swimmers. Thanks to all involved, a grand total of over 1,100€ was raised for the Hospice, which will help Cudeca to continue offering the cost-free “Special Kind of Care” to patients suffering from advanced cancer.

The Royal British Legion - Estepona Branch On the FIRST and THIRD Tuesdays of the month the RBL meets at 12.30 at the El Cenachero restaurant in Estepona Port which is at marina level, near Club Nautico, where an economic one course lunch is available for 6 Euros. Some people just attend for a drink and a natter with other members and friends. On the SECOND and FOURTH Tuesdays the RBL meets at 12.30 at the La Casona Restaurant, which is on N340, on the right going towards Sabanillas from Estepona, on the next roundabout after you pass Mercadona supermarket. When approaching from Sabinillas, La Casona is on your left, on the roundabout after the turning for Casares. An excellent three course lunch is also available there to suit all tastes for 9.99 Euros, if required.

If there is a FIFTH Tuesday in the month the RBL have their official Branch meetings on that day at La Casona where they have a separate room for meetings. Meetings begin at 12 noon on these occasions.

There have been some alterations to venues for Friday evenings for the next

two months because some restaurants are closed for holidays, so below is an update.

When applying for means-tested benefits/healthcare (‘sin recursos’), free prescriptions, or welfare help through social services, such as a place in a residential home, you will be asked to provide evidence of your income and savings. The British Consular Pension, Benefit and Healthcare Team can provide a certificate in Spanish which confirms the amount of UK state pension or benefit that you receive, which will help you to complete this process. If you wish to visit them in the British Consulates in Madrid, Malaga or Alicante, you should take along your passport and proof of your

pension (this could be a bank statement or correspondence from the Pension Service). If you cannot visit them in person, you can make a request for this certificate by phone by providing them with your full name, date of birth, National Insurance number and your address. Once they have consulted the Pension Service to confirm your pension or benefit and identity, they can issue you with the document in person or by post. This service is free of charge.

What does ‘means-tested’ mean? An individual’s eligibility for a means-tested benefit is determined by their financial circumstances. Examples include Spanish non-contributory pensions, family benefits, etc.

Everyone can benefit from breast thermography screening however, it is especially appropriate for younger women (20 - 50) whose denser breast tissue makes it more difficult for mammograms and ultrasound to be effective. Also, women of all ages who are unable to undergo routine mammography will benefit from Thermal Imaging.

Breast cancer is usually much more aggressive in the younger woman and cancer cells grow significantly faster if under 50.

There are no contraindications for Thermal Imaging, it can do no harm so it is also suitable for those who are pregnant, have implants etc.

Readers need to be aware that there is no comparison or competition between mammograms and Thermal Imaging. Thermography is a test of function (physiology) and not anatomy.

They are two different tests, providing different results and “looking” for different things! Mammograms and ultrasound show “structure” i.e. lumps which can be measured and opinions given before biopsy. What Thermal Imaging does is provide early warnings by showing changes before this stage has been reached. If there are indications and these are detected early enough, simple life style changes may be all that is required to halt these abnormalities in their tracks.

Thermography is also particularly useful post-surgery to monitor the on-going situation and to protect the healthy breast.

Have Clinical Tests Been Done on Thermal Imaging?

Over 800 peer-reviewed studies on well over 300,000 women have taken place with some of these studies having followed patients for up to 12 years.

These clinical trials have demonstrated that breast thermography detects the first signs of a cancer up to 10 years before any other procedure and significantly augments the long-term survival rates of its recipients. When used as part of a multimodal approach i.e. thermography plus clinical examination and mammography, studies have shown that up to 95% of early stage cancers can be detected.

Remember, every abnormality is not necessary cancer but every cancer starts as an abnormality.

Un río de luz es motivo de orgullo en el cielo, y la higuera que, trenza en sus ramas una canción del aire, confía que los astros protejan a fuentes de la tierra.

Alegre, sí, escuadra de luz se esparce por los campos, designios de estrellas, corazones que se sienten iluminados, hombres como capítulos de historia, un combate en la ofensiva de su suceso, campesinos del verde y el barro. Ventana abierta y un niño que tiene miedo, porque ha oído el ruido de los árboles, viento cansino cuando un remolino pasa ligero interrumpiendo el sueño. La escoba, que es la pequeña palmera boca abajo, se estremece en el porche, y como el mar queda cerca, el levante, pijama de alboroto, irrumpe en las alcobas de la aldea.

Tan sólo días atrás, un clima suave hacía que muchos comentaran junto a la puerta de la casa, se oía el murmullo de los grillos, chirridos que se unen a los comentarios de los campesinos. Uno que se justificaba: “Mi amigo coincidía conmigo, y pensé que, si yo le seguía, lograríamos entre los dos grandes cosas para el bien del pueblo.

Pero, como tuve la ocasión de comprobar quien era en realidad, me despedí de él y me vine para el campo, a trabajar en las tierras arrendadas por mi padre, desde entonces estoy aquí, y ya hace más de cuarenta años.” “Sí, lo recuerdo, y en realidad has logrado hacer mucho bien, cuando tomaste ese repajo, lo limpiaste, e hiciste el invernadero. Pero esa es la fuente, ¡vamos a beber de ella! El corazón del agua sabe que la luna duerme en una gota del sol. Agua, luna, sol, espacio, madeja para la carne de un astro: el hombre acaso.

Estuvimos en un parque a medio día, corrimos diligentes, a pesar de nuestra discapacidad, el viento nos prometía ayuda; nuestras madres, sentadas en un banco, cansadas, no dejaban de mirarnos. “No corras tanto que después te duelen las piernas, hazlo, pero despacio”, me decía mi madre sacando un pañuelo, untando un poco de su saliva y quitándome posteriormente un churrete de la cara.

Viña celeste o verde, verde porque agosto aprecia en sus collados extensos, la capacidad de la luz por aliviar la tierra, por conseguir que el hombre sea viña transformada, anónima del llanto modificado, de la canción más pura, del dolor superado con la unción de una sangre.

Cada verano, un barco llega Cada verano, un barco es empujado por la corriente de los siglos hasta llegar a la orilla. Los carpinteros han llegado a finales de junio, llegan pero no como una fábula de oficio, sino con la confianza de auténticos profesionales, y mientras trabajan, cuentan historias, odiseas de la navegación. Uno se atreve a relatar la noche helada de la orca, su contienda en agua con la hidra, fábula del gigante que se tragó la luna una madrugada clara de otoño, que embistió el galeón y el mar y el animal mitológico engulló a los piratas. Otra vez, cercano a

una isla, un quebrantahuesos, al unísono de la tempestad quiso atrapar el misterio del amor de un naviero y, finalmente declamó: “La sombra de tus labios en el agua se vierte, quiero atrapar su sabor salado y virgen arrojándome al mar.”

Cada verano, un barco lleva en su mástil la bandera del verdadero corazón de los marineros operarios, una conciencia que mantiene la cultura hereditaria; y salen los mecenas declarando la importancia de la sabiduría atávica. Pero ellos se concentran en la reparación de los desperfectos motivados por una u otra causa. El barco llega cargado con todo lo necesario para restaurar lo cuarteado, lo desgastado en cada navío por el paso del tiempo. Pero no es tarea fácil. Estarán allí durante seis meses, después, volverán a navegar, y

nuevamente retornarán a la ciudad. Ryanair ha anunciado que abrirá su base número 38 en Málaga en Junio de 2010 con cuatro aviones en el aeropuerto Pablo Picasso y con 19 nuevas rutas haciendo un total de 39 rutas operativas por la compañía irlandesa de bajo coste desde Málaga.

Crearán sobre 200 puestos de trabajos directos y ofrecerán 360 vuelos semanales desde la capital Malagueña con una inversión de cerca de 175 millones de euros en el aeropuerto.

Vets Corner - El Veterinario Peritonitis Infecciosa Felina Los veterinarios de la Región de Murcia están detectando un incremento de los casos de peritonitis infecciosa felina, una enfermedad mortal en los gatos para la que actualmente no existe tratamiento, por lo que recomiendan mantener una buena higiene del animal y su entorno, ya que el contagio es fácil a través del contacto directo (saliva, heces...) e indirecto por compartición de recipientes de comida o bebida contaminados y de bandejas para las deposiciones.

El profesor del Servicio de Medicina Interna de la Fundación Veterinaria Clínica de la Universidad de Murcia, Juan Diego García Martínez, reconoció que aunque la peritonitis infecciosa felina “parece que está muy de moda” debido a que se está registrando más casos, “es muy posible que esto se debe a que anteriormente no se diagnosticaba bien o pasaba desapercibida”.

De hecho, García comentó la dificultad de diagnosis que plantea, ya que “otras muchas enfermedades presentan signos clínicos muy similares”, hasta el punto de que muchos de los casos diagnosticados

son ‘post mortem’, esto es, una vez practicada la necropsia al animal. Además, aunque existe una vacuna, “no está dando buenos resultados”.

García detalló que la peritonitis infecciosa felina presenta dos formas, la seca y la húmeda. En general, los síntomas de esta enfermedad son principalmente letargia, pérdida de peso, hinchazón del abdomen, apatía, fiebre intermitente, falta de apetito.

Pese a ello, García recomendó a los propietarios de gatos que se dejen aconsejar por los veterinarios en cuanto a la vacunación de los animales, no sólo de los domésticos, sino también de los que viven en semilibertad, ya que estos últimos están más expuestos a contraer infecciones por las peleas con otros gatos, en especial en la época de celo.

Por último, el profesor del Servicio de Medicina Interna de la Fundación Veterinaria Clínica de la Universidad de Murcia consideró “fundamental” que los dueños de los gatos sigan especialmente las recomendaciones que pueden evitar el contagio de enfermedades al hombre que,

en el caso de los felinos, son los parásitos intestinales y la tiña.

Sobre la primera, que comúnmente es conocida como tener lombrices, García insistió en la importancia de aplicar una correcta desparasitación del animal (cada tres meses si tiene acceso al exterior y cada seis si es un animal sin contacto con el mismo), mientras que la tiña es similar a la de los conejos y puede detectarse fácilmente si causa alguna alopecia circunscrita en el pelo del gato, sobre todo en animales jóvenes.

Finalmente, para quienes quieren comprar un gatito o adoptar alguno de los que están en los albergues para animales, García aconsejó elegir un animal que esté alegre, despierto, que juegue, y que no esté ni muy gordo ni muy delgado, así como llevarlo sin demora al veterinario para que le realice un primer reconocimiento y el correspondiente seguimiento a lo largo de su vida.

Feline Infectious Peritonitis Ryanair to establish new base at Malaga Ryanair has announced it will open its 38th base at Malaga in June 2010 with 4 aircraft based at Pablo Picasso airport and the establishment of 19 new routes making a total of 39 routes operated by the Irish low cost carrier from Malaga.

The Veterinarians in the area of Murcia have recently detected an increase in cases of Feline Infectious Peritonitis. This is a contagious and potentially fatal disease of cats. There is no effective treatment against this disease, at the present time prevention, primarily through vaccination is the only tool available, besides attempting to avoid spreading the disease amoung cats, by either direct (saliva, feces...) or indirect contact, shared food bowls or litter trays.

This is not a new disease that has become “popular” as a new disease, as pointed out by Professor Juan Diego García Martínez, from the Veterinary Clinic at the University of Murcia Veterinary School, it may have previously not been properly diagnosed, or mistaken for other diseases because of the clinical similarities with other diseases, the only true diagnosis is either with a blood test or definitive

findings in a post mortem exam!

It is also pointed out that this vaccine may not be as effective as the other vaccines for the other major feline diseases.

There are two forms of this disease -wet and dry- and the symptoms are primarily lethargy, weight loss, abdominal swelling, difficulty breathing, intermittent fevers, and/or lack of appetite.

Cat owners should consult your veterinarians to set up proper vaccination programs for your cats and for those that live rough, as they are more susceptible and your cats may come into contact with them, directly or indirectly being exposed to the spread of certain diseases.

Cat owners should be aware of two other important areas of concern, intestinal parasites or worms and fungal infections or ringworm. Cats (and dogs) should be wormed every 3 months if they have contact outside except cats that live in a dog free apartment and never go outside could get

by, by being wormed only every 6 months. Ringworm infections should be treated by your vet as they could be contagious to us and are generally circular shaped areas of hair loss, most frequently in young cats.

Country House Culture with DFAS de la Frontera DFAS de la Frontera’s next lecture on the 16th February 2010 is entitled Mirrors of an Age – The 18th Century English Country House. For centuries it was a power house of affluence and influence and even now the English country house sets the style for ambitious domestic architecture all over the world, including Andalusia.

A er years of building in the gothic style, wealthy young Englishmen returned to their country seats from the Grand Tour of Europe with new ideas on how to make their houses reflect their status. Deborah Lambert, a new NADFAS lecturer, is familiar to viewers of the Antiques Roadshow.

She worked as an academic director and lecturer for Christie’s Education and her elegant style of delivery reflects the houses she describes. On the 17th February and with Deborah’s lecture fresh in our minds she will join members on a very special trip to a Spanish country house, Finca Los Alburejos, the Domecq family estate in Jerez.

December was a memorable month for DFAS de la Frontera and they celebrated the season in style with a gathering

of members and friends at Cortijo La Vizcaronda feasting on hog roast and singing carols. The December lecture was enjoyed by a record number of a endees who also had the opportunity to view and buy works from talented artist members. The drinks reception held on the terrace in the glorious sunshine had a great atmosphere and sixty people stayed on for a festive lunch that rounded off one of their most outstanding lecture days to date.

What is the outlook for the euro?

€ If you live in, or are looking at buying a property on the Costa del Sol, you will probably have noticed the effect that the weak pound has had on the sterling/ euro rate.

After its near-death experience in October down at €1.06 the pound got its act together. It has spent most of the last two months wobbling between €1.09 and €1.13. There were even moments when it threatened to mount a proper rally but, as usual, the accident-prone pound managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

After two months and more of pessimistic outpourings from the Bank of England the Threadneedle Street team apparently decided in November to back off on the doom and gloom. However, there was also some negative impact from the minutes of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee. At its November meeting the MPC decided to extend the programme of quantitative easing (‘printing money’) by another £25 billion pounds. Investors were happy to live with that decision but were disturbed when the minutes showed the vote had been anything but unanimous.

On the other hand, MPC member Andrew Sentance actually came close to being positive about Britain’s economic situation. He said in a speech that ‘the UK economy is now moving out of recession and into the recovery phase of the cycle.’

Unfortunately, the month ended with that ray obscured by two dark clouds. Dubai World’s default on loan repayments rang alarm bells around the world. The market’s instant assumption was that it would be a particularly big worry for British banks, given the strong ties between the United Kingdom and the region.

So sterling must continue to run the gauntlet of bad news and hostile comment, picking up its good days whenever it can.

The pound has been struggling

because Britain’s financial policy is in disarray. As for the euro, it has managed to dodge most of the mud-slinging because there is no single national or political target in Euroland. Greece and Portugal have walk-on parts: The German economic locomotive has done its stuff in the last 50 years and will do it again. That’s the theory anyway.

Inevitably, these judgments will change as good and bad news emerges from the various economies. Global currency stability was a pipe-dream that last saw the light of day when the Bretton Woods agreement was abandoned four decades ago. Exchange rates will move in the future, in the coming year, for reasons we cannot imagine today. Be lucky or hedge your exposure.

Mes complicado para el U Estepona CF Estepona CF ha tenido un mes bastante complicado y no estamos hablando precisamente sobre el tiempo. Después de unos resultados bastante mediocres, incluyendo una goleada de 0-4 en casa contra Granada la semana pasada, el presidente, Eugenio Muñoz, presentó su dimisión y apareciendo en la página web del equipo, comentarios de que los jugadores tenían quejas sobre el hecho de que no habían cobrado sus nóminas, el presidente comentó que algunos jugadores daban más importancia al dinero que al rendimiento en el campo, pero aceptó el hecho de que muchos de los jugadores viven para el fútbol.

Stormy ride for U Estepona CF Estepona CF has had a stormy month, and we’re not referring to the weather. A run of mediocre results was topped off by a 4 - nil drubbing by top of the league Granada just over a week ago leading to the President, Eugenio Muñoz, tendering his resignation.

Reports had appeared on the teams website that many players were concerned about the fact that they were behind with their wages, to which the President had commented that some of the players were more concerned about their money than their performances. He did accept though that many of the players lived for their football.

A meeting of the club’s executive refused

to accept Muños’s resignation, choosing instead to work alongside the President.

Regarding the trainer, Raul Procopio, he will continue, but if an improvement in the team’s results isn’t seen in the near future, then he will be for the chop.

With this all behind them, the Esteponeros travelled to Almeria to play El Ejido last Sunday. Despite being without Velazquez and Memo through suspension, they recorded a 0 - 2 victory against the home side, which lifted them out of the relegation zone once again.

Next Sunday, 24th January, U Estepona CF are at home to middle-of-the-table Roquetas.

Copa del Sol Whilst most European countries are halfway through their domestic football competitions it is easy to forget that most of the more northerly countries start their season after the harshest months of winter.

With this in mind the Copa del Sol football tournament offers a unique opportunity for training and match play for the Scandinavian teams during the winter break. With an ambition to become the most interesting tournament during the pre season for teams from Sweden, Norway and Denmark, it offers both a high level training environment and matches against high level international opponents.

The Copa del Sol tournament will take place from the 3rd to 12th February, one month before the kickoff of the national leagues, and will be held at Marbella’s municipal stadium.

Eight teams are invited to play the inaugural edition of Copa del Sol. Sweden is represented by Kalmar FF and IF Elfsborg. The Danish top teams F.C. Copenhagen and Odense BK, are joined by two Norwegian top sides – Rosenborg BK and Molde FK. The groups are completed by two major teams from Russia and Ukraine – CSKA Moscow and F.C. Shakhtar Donetsk.

Beach Sports Day in aid of ADEC, Asociación de Ayuda a Enfermos de Cáncer en sus Casas, who provide assistance for cancer sufferers in their own homes.

Sunday 31st January 2 pm to 6 pm Torreguadiaro Beach Come and have fun on the beach and also raise money for ADEC. Local residents of all ages, that are suffering from cancer need help and support. The aim is to raise money to provide palliative care for them in their own homes.

Local charity fundraising committee ADEC is organising a Beach Sports Day with fun and games that include: sack race, tug ‘o’ war and the infamous egg and spoon race.

There will be refreshments and a raffle.

There is a small entry fee to cover costs.

Team Sky to compete in Vuelta a Andalucia New kids on the cycling block, Team Sky, are to compete in this year’s Vuelta a Andalucia “Route of the Sun” cycle race, to be held from 21st to 25th February.

Liga Andaluza de Taekwon Do ITF

La tercera edición del torneo de padel “Cuesta de enero” se celebrará finalmente los días 22, 23 y 24 de enero en las pistas situadas en el campo de fútbol Las Viñas. El plazo de inscripción se extenderá hasta el 19 del presente mes y el precio es de 15 euros por persona, es decir, 30 euros por pareja.

Según la organización, habrá un obsequio para todos los participantes.

Se han establecido tres categorías,

Representantes del Club Deportivo de Taekwon do Estepona, que cuenta con más de cuarenta asociados, han mantenido diferentes reuniones con técnicos municipales para la organización conjunta con la Delegación Municipal de Deportes de la Liga Andaluza de Taekwon do ITF, el sábado 30 de enero de 09.00 a 13.30 hs. y de 15.30 a 18.30 hs. en el

masculina, femenina y mixta. En este campeonato sólo podrán participar personas que estén empadronadas en el municipio, con una antigüedad de seis meses, y que tengan16 años o sean mayores de esta edad.
