February was another extraordinary month at Eldorado. The month was filled with a variety of activities for all interests. So, whether you’re into Backgammon, Bocce, Book Club, Bingo, Bridge, Balance, BMW Racing, or Biking, the staff has you covered, and that’s just the Bs. The Speaker Series Committee presented the membership with two remarkable speakers. Ambassador Kay Bailey Hutchison and BestSelling Author Michael Connelly filled the Eldorado Room with over 180 members each. In addition, the Dutton Estate Wine Dinner sold out a week in advance, and the Valentine’s Day Dinner and Dance entertained more than 110 members. Even the Eldorado Dog Show, chaired by Karen Jason, set another new record with over 55 dogs participating and more than 100 attendees joining the festivities. Undoubtedly, our members are enjoying the social activities and events at Eldorado more than ever. This month promises to be equally as active and fulfilling.
I want to thank Susan Milhoan, Sara Northwood, and Sharon Smith for putting together what I believe is a great nod to our Eldorado staff. They have assembled the Employee Spotlight series, which includes an excellent in-depth article and video presentation. The first Eldorado Spotlight features our Director of Golf, Terry Beardsley. You can learn more about the Employee Spotlight on the following page, then read the article and view the video on the Eldorado website and mobile app. Finally, I want to remind everyone that Easter Weekend at Eldorado is April 6–9, and the staff has put together another fantastic schedule of activities. New events this year include skating with Olympic Gold Medalist Dorothy Hamill and the Eldorado Easter Bunny, along with a Star Wars-themed Bingo Night complete with costumes and additional surprises that will be fun for the entire family. So, turn to pages 11–14 to start planning your holiday weekend.

MARK MILLER GENERAL MANAGER
Manager’s Message
If Clubs were ranked according to dress code, Eldorado would be #1. We are conservative, we uphold our appearance standards, and we have never deviated from our policies on attire. We simply have the best-dressed members, and our staff is always professionally uniformed.
Members at Eldorado feel strongly about their dress code, and for someone who has worn a jacket and tie since the first grade, that’s fine by me. However, depending on the calendar, Eldorado might appear to have two different sets of dress standards for the casual observer. This is not the case. There are a handful of times throughout the season when the dress code seems to be thrown to the wayside:
Thanksgiving, Christmas, Presidents’ Weekend, and Easter. During these holidays, when family and friends gather, the Club experiences a metamorphosis in dress standards to what I will describe as the extreme to ultra-casual mode. The infractions seem to steadily worsen each year.
Spring Break and Easter are right around the corner. Management and staff have been trained to identify and handle dress code infractions discreetly and consistently. Please, inform your family and guests of our dress code policy. The dress code and all other rules of the Club can be found in the roster. If you have any questions regarding the rules of the Club, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Until next time, I remain respectfully at your service.

BY MEMBER SUSAN MILHOAN
We are excited to share a new addition to our Eldorado website. On this page we will be presenting you with the ‘back story’ on a variety of our most treasured assets at Eldorado Country Club, our employees.
While we enjoy a wintertime encampment full of fun activities, events, meals, camaraderie, and impeccable surroundings, we lose sight of how all of that is seemingly made so effortlessly possible. On this new page we will bring you into the lives of those who work with and for us: we’ll look at who they are outside of Eldorado and into their careers and their families. You’ll see photos and videos that bring a new dimension to the folks we see every day but who we know very little about. We know you will be surprised, amazed, and have a whole new level of appreciation.
We thank all the employees who are ready and willing to do this. It is our hope to add 4-5 stories with videos each year. Stay tuned.
The first Employee Spotlight features our beloved Director of Golf, Terry Beardsley.

AMY SPITTLE DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP & COMMUNICATIONS
Membership Update
Over the past few weeks, interest levels have increased for the Legacy Progressive membership category.
Members at Eldorado appreciate seeing third and even fourth-generation candidates interested in joining the Club as they typically have a clear understanding and appreciation for Eldorado’s history, culture, and traditions.
To qualify, Legacy Progressive candidates must be under 50 and undergo the same thorough membership process as Regular, Life, and Social members. Once approved, Legacy Progressive members pay only half of the current $125,000 admission fee at the time of joining and only 50% of Regular dues. The term for a Legacy Progressive member is a maximum of ten years, or until age 50, whichever comes first. The Legacy Progressive member will then be required to transfer to a Regular membership and pay the remaining
half of the admission fee. In addition, regardless of category, all candidates must have a non-related Proposing sponsor, a Seconding sponsor, and three to five additional sponsors willing to write a thorough letter of recommendation and complete an endorsement form.
Since the Legacy Progressive membership category is considered a golfing membership, there is a waiting list. If you have a qualified family member interested in a Legacy Progressive membership, let them know only a limited number of Legacy Progressives are available. Qualified candidates must be approved as Social members to join the waiting list.
If you would like additional information on our membership process or have a friend or family member that would make a great candidate, don’t hesitate to contact me via e-mail at aspittle@eldoradocc.org or call (760) 423-1517. As always, thank you for sharing Eldorado with your friends and family.

CRAIG ELLIS DIRECTOR OF AGRONOMY AND LANDSCAPING
Talking Turf
Is there a downside to faster greens?
Eldorado’s Club Championship was held the third week of January this year.
Congratulations to Women’s Champion Kathy Friday and Men’s Champion Tim Strader. During Club Championship week, green speeds reached 13 feet. During the week, I was asked, “Craig, can we keep them this speed all the time?”
We must be careful what we wish for. There is a downside to fast greens daily.
● Putting green shrinkage: Areas for reasonable pins are dramatically decreased. Slopes or significant contours are exacerbated by quick greens. Fewer hole locations mean less variety and interest. Also, returning to the same location on the green multiple times means additional traffic and wear and tear to the turf.
● Pace of play: Faster greens usually equate to more putts. Additional strokes add time to your round of golf. You can say goodbye to 3:45 minute rounds when speeds approach 12 feet on the stimpmeter.
● Pushing turf to the edge – Mowing turf @.080 inches, rolling, and limited water and fertility, stress out putting surfaces. Damage can occur if attempting to do any or all of these at the wrong time. Fast greens can be healthy. However, our margin of error decreases as speed increases.
These practices, combined with bad weather or bad luck, could result in damage that lasts for months. My favorite major is The Masters, particularly Sunday afternoon. Watching the greens at Augusta turn from green to silver to purple always impresses me. Their water management is always on point.
Putting and chipping, for most golfers, is already challenging. Faster greens can make golf less enjoyable for some people. Golf is about having fun. A perfect example of this is the success of our green and silver tee play. While it can be fun to test your skills on extremely fast greens occasionally, a steady diet of three putts for you and the group behind you gets old quickly.
My agronomic experience, along with the architecture of the course, tells me eleven to eleven and a half is the best daily speed for Eldorado. However, for special tournaments and member-guest events, we will have the greens at “tournament speed.” Faster than 11’ 5” and slower than 13’.
See you on the course!

BIBI HORACEK PRESIDENT, WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION OF ELDORADO
News from the Women’s Association of Eldorado (WAE)
The Oscar de la Renta event was magical! I want to applaud Debbie Barkley and Nancy Duxbury, their committee, volunteers, and the Eldorado Staff for their hard work in making the Oscar de la Renta Fashion Show and Luncheon a success. Also, Joan and Kevin Knee were the ultimate hosts for the Patron Party, and we are most grateful to them for their hospitality, opening their beautiful home for all Patrons to enjoy. The following day, a total of 438 members and guests enjoyed the delicious luncheon prepared by Chef Mark Rigano.
Thank you to all the donors for the live and silent auctions. During the live auction of the Patron Party, we raised $18,500 on two magnificent golf packages donated by Todd Warnock, Elizabeth Chamberlain, and Jennifer and Cree Edwards. During the live auction at the fashion show, we raised an additional $10,000 for the marvelous dinner
for ten at the home of Sylvia and Toby Davis. Because of your generosity, our partnership with Saks Fifth Avenue, and Oscar de la Renta, the preliminary numbers show the event raised a net of $252,418 for the Eldorado Scholarship Fund. I want to acknowledge Patrons Karen and Bill G. Jason for their generous donation, whose names were inadvertently omitted from the fashion show program. It was an honor to welcome back Eliza and Alex Bolen from Oscar de la Renta and have jewelry designer Robert Procop attend the event. Special thanks to members June and Paul C. Schorr and Sally B. Larson for their relationship with Oscar de la Renta, which makes this event possible.

Creamy Chimichurri Roast Chicken
EXECUTIVE CHEF MARK RIGANO Serves 4-6
INGREDIENTS
5 garlic cloves
2½ cups cilantro leaves
2 cups parsley leaves
¼ cup red wine vinegar
1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. kosher salt
1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. dried oregano
2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
¾ cup extra-virgin olive oil, divided
1 cup plain whole-milk Greek yogurt
CHICKEN AND ASSEMBLY
1 3½–4-lb. whole chicken, backbone removed, patted dry
2 tsp. kosher salt
SAUCE
Step 1 Pulse 5 garlic cloves, 2½ cups cilantro leaves, 2 cups parsley leaves, ¼ cup red wine vinegar, 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. kosher salt, 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. dried oregano, 2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes, and ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil in a food processor until combined and herbs are very finely chopped but not puréed. Transfer mixture to a medium bowl and add 1 cup plain whole-milk Greek yogurt and remaining ½ cup extra-virgin olive oil. Whisk vigorously until emulsified (makes about 2½ cups). Do ahead: Sauce can be made 3 days ahead. Cover and chill. Whisk just before using.
CHICKEN AND ASSEMBLY
Step 2 Place one 3½–4-lb. whole chicken, backbone removed, patted dry, breast side up, on a cutting board; open up against
surface as much as possible. Using your palms, press firmly on breastbone to flatten breast (you may hear a crack). Transfer to a large bowl and rub all over with 2 tsp. kosher salt and ¾ cup sauce. Cover and chill at least 2 hours and, preferably, up to 12 hours.
Step 3 Place a rack in middle of oven; preheat to 375°. Transfer chicken to a wire rack set inside a large rimmed baking sheet; spread any marinade left in large bowl over skin. Roast chicken, rotating baking sheet halfway through, until skin is deep golden brown and an instant-read thermometer inserted into thickest part of a thigh registers 165°, 50–60 minutes. Let rest 10-15 minutes.
Step 4 Transfer chicken to a platter. Whisk remaining sauce in medium bowl if it has separated and serve alongside.

WADE MILLER DIRECTOR OF SPORT & FITNESS
Can You Find the Time?
Can you find the time?
Although Eldorado is open year-round, our season really lasts from November to May. During those early weeks of November, members begin to shape their schedule of activities. House parties are planned. Golfing groups are formed. Card players settle in, and workout routines are designed. The chaotic nature of this scheduling is like first-year college students trying to get their classes on sign-up day. It is hectic for us as well. We spend those first few weeks greeting returning members and setting up appointments for the season. In addition, we welcome new members and encourage them to participate in activities other than just working out.
We want members to be involved in activities that are not only health-based but recreational in nature. That is not to imply that lifting weights is not recreational. For some, it is. However, we are speaking about activities in a more social setting that may include snacks and frosty beverages. Bocce comes to mind. Other experiences we sponsor include hiking, cycling, swimming, tennis, pickleball, paddleball, etc. We have a full slate of events.
Unfortunately, our happenings often get mixed up in a myriad of club activities that go on day to day. For instance, after enjoying bocce, hikes, or pickleball, it is common to
hear, “We should do this more often. I forgot this was on the schedule.” We understand. We are competing against bridge, mah jongg, book club, tournaments, putters, karaoke, and the list continues. The schedule is endless.
One of our constant sources of amusement at Sport & Fitness is when scheduling a service; a member will bring out her planner book. Cross outs, checks, re-bookings, cancellations. It is impressive to see some of these schedules. One thing we know for sure is that there will be conflicts. Sometimes you need to pick and choose. We hope that you try some of our activities so they can become part of your schedule. Below are some remaining activities for March and April that are always fun. See the Sport & Fitness desk for further clarification regarding these events.

Welcome New Staff
Torivio “Tee” Vallo, Director of Safety and Security.
TEE VALLO DIRECTOR OF SECURITY AND SAFETY
Fondly known around campus as “Tee,” Vallo has been an integral part of our Security Team since 1991, 31 years. He has held numerous positions within the department having assisted the Club’s past three Security Directors. His most recent position has been Security Supervisor under the direction of Brian Akers. He is well-liked amongst his peers and demonstrates a natural ability to lead and assess critical situations.
For Your Safety
Like many of our Security Staff, Tee served his country performing military services. A member of the United States Marine Corp from 1987-1991 (5th Battalion, 11th Marines HQ Battery), Vallo completed two tours of duty during the Gulf War (Operation Desert Shield, and Operations Desert Storm) with the rank of E5.
With the peak of the season and spring break, members bring their families and guests to our beautiful Eldorado community. Therefore, more than ever, reminding residents and guests of a few critical safety measures is important. First, please adhere to the 25-mph speed limit for the safety of the many visiting guests and children.
The father of three, Tee spent many evenings and weekends coaching his children in Club and school sports through the varsity level (basketball, volleyball, and football). Trevor, Logan, and Riley are now all young adults with successful careers.
Second, please also inform your guests that bicycles, skateboards, scooters, or other similar items are prohibited around the clubhouse area or on the golf course. Next, walking on golf cart paths during daylight golf hours is not permitted. Lastly, only those with a valid driver’s license may operate a golf cart anywhere on the club grounds. Riding on the back of a golf cart is NOT permissible. Everyone must be appropriately seated.
Marrichrist “MC” Evangelista, Eldorado Community Manager
“MC,” as everyone calls her, has been working as a Community Manager, serving several HOAs in the Coachella Valley over the last seven years. She has managed onsite operations including overseeing major restoration projects and daily maintenance. She has extensive experience working with HOA boards and committees.
March marks the beginning of snake season in Southern California. As temperatures rise, snakes become more active and are seen more often as they hunt for food and seek out potential mates. However, Eldorado is not exempt from the dangers of rattlesnakes, and it is important to be aware of this while exploring the area.
MC will be onsite full time and will be available to assist homeowners with any home-related needs such as vendor referrals, construction applications, rules clarifications, etc.
A life-long resident of the Valley, MC earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics at the California State University of Long Beach and spent two semesters at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom. She Golf Professional John Ropietski were recently married in Hawaii this past September. MC looks forward to serving Eldorado homeowners for many years to come.
Should you encounter a snake of any kind, please call the Main Gate at (760) 423-1501, and an officer will be dispatched to remove it with snake tongs. Keep a close eye on your pets while visiting the Dog Park and the wash area. Snakes have been spotted previously in these areas. It is essential to be aware of your environment and alert for any potential danger.
The best way to ensure the safety of your pets is to keep them always leashed and under your control. Dogs may be taken off-leash in the Dog Park or at one of the east or west washes at the front of the Club. These designated areas are specially designed for dogs to enjoy off-leash time so long as they remain under the supervision of their owners.
