Six progressive SheepMaster studs across southern WA have united as the SouthWest SheepMasters Breeding Group (SWSM). The group operates using the Co-Operative principles with each breeder maintaining management independence and business decisions, and working together to enhance breed development and maximise marketing opportunities.
Formed in 2024 the group shares a singular breeding philosophy based on maximising net profit to the producer and focusing on processor and consumer demands. The group shares the same Garnett Scoring System (GSS) developed by SheepMaster founder Neil Garnett. This disciplined, visual system assesses structure, fertility, shedding, and growth—ensuring all six studs breed to the same genetic standards. Operating as one large, coordinated flock of 2,600 stud ewes and 3,000 commercial ewes (expanding to 3,500 and 5,000 respectively), they aim to fast-track genetic gain and produce consistent, high-performing SheepMasters across diverse conditions.
