What do you get when love, hard work, and creativity come together? A couple that comes from opposite parts of the world that fell in love with Rincón and made it their home. After months of planning, they managed to start their own small business, with a unique adventure that has never been done in Rincón before. Chikako Tsuruta was born and raised in Japan and later moved to New York. After spending years in the city, a friend suggested they take a vacation to Puerto Rico. They visited many parts of the island including Vieques and Culebra. But it was Rincón that stole her heart. According to Chikako, “Something was calling me, I just felt it and wanted to live here.” She has now been living here for over 13 years. Four years ago, Damiano Tellini came to Rincón all the way from Rome, Italy where he had been a lifeguard for over 16 years. While looking for a place to stay, he entered the Desecheo Surf Shop where Chikako has been working for almost 11 years. Little did he know, his life was about to change. They have been married now for two years and are just starting up a business together. Damiano has a lot of experience with paddle boarding and as a lifeguard. After months of brainstorming and complying with important government paperwork and safety requirements, Rincón Paddle Boards was born. But its not just a rental place. They offer something that has never been done in Rincón before, night paddle tours, and I was invited to be a guest on one of their first excursions. A new experience in Rincón is exactly what I got when I partook on this glowing nighttime adventure. We started out at sunset in the Rincón marina. Damiano began by informing guests about important safety information. After a quick lesson on how to paddleboard, we learned how to work with the LED lights and were ready to head into the water. Damiano took the lead and another instructor in a kayak followed for extra security. The sunset was amazing but the stars above our heads were something magical and the glowing reef below our feet was a sight I never thought conceivable. The lights on the boards made it possible to see all the way to the sea floor. They also attracted fish that provided an acrobatic show at the sight of us. After a quick paddle to the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve,

Una pareja que proviene de destinos opuestos en el planeta, se enamoró en Rincón y decidieron convertirlo en su hogar. Luego de estar planificando por meses, lograron abrir su propio negocio el cual involucra una aventura única que nunca antes se había practicado en Rincón. Chikako Tsuruta, nació y se crió en Japón y posteriormente se mudó a Nueva York. Luego de haber permanecido años en la ciudad, una amiga le sugirió que tomaran unas vacaciones en Puerto Rico. Visitaron muchísimas áreas de la isla, incluyendo Vieques y Culebra. Sin embargo, fue Rincón el destino que le robó el corazón. De acuerdo con Chikako: “Algo me estaba llamando, solamente lo sentí y deseaba vivir en este lugar.” Actualmente, ella ha estado residiendo en Rincón por los últimos 13 años. Cuatro años atrás, Damiano Tellini vino a Rincón desde Roma, Italia donde había sido un salvavidas por más de 16 años. Mientras buscaba un lugar donde hospedarse el entro a la tienda Desecheo Surf donde Chikako ha estado trabajando por casi 11 años. Poco sabía él que su vida estaba a punto de cambiar. Presentemente, llevan dos años de casados y están comenzando un negocio en común. Damiano tiene muchísima experiencia con los “paddle boards” o tablas de remo, además de que posee mucha experiencia como salvavidas. Luego de meses intercambiando y pensando en ideas y cumpliendo con los procesos del papeleo gubernamental y los requerimientos de seguridad, Rincón Paddle Boards nació. No obstante, ellos no solamente alquilan tablas de remo. Ellos ofrecen algo que nunca antes se había realizado en Rincón, recorridos nocturnos en tablas de remo y yo tuve el gusto de ser invitada para disfrutar de una de sus primeras excursiones. Una nueva experiencia para Rincón fue exactamente lo que obtuve cuando participé de esta resplandeciente aventura nocturna. Comenzamos al atardecer en la marina de Rincón. Damiano comenzó informando a los invitados sobre importantes medidas de seguridad.
