End of Year 3 Pre-Registration Nursing PDP Reflective Guidance & Activities

The following activities have been designed to guide your approach on how to structure and apply your personal and professional learning development now you are entering your third year of the programme and preparing to enter the professional register.

Preparation Activities STEP 1 Refer back to the NMC Domains i.e. ‘The competency Framework’, which sets out the standards for competence and the related competencies that every nursing student must acquire to progress to registration .In this instance, the competencies that you have to have achieved by the end of year 1 and year 2.

Now click on the following link The NMC 2010 Standards for Competence for Entry to the Register and familiarise yourself with the competency requirements for your field of adult nursing, mental health nursing, learning disabilities nursing or children’s nursing. Each set is laid out under the following four domains: 1 professional values 2 communication and interpersonal skills 3 nursing practice and decision-making 4 leadership, management and team working At this stage of the programme, it is expected that you should be able to provide: • Comprehensive evidence of work done and learning achievement to support the integration of learning from different parts of the course.

• Completion of the NMC requirements for generic exposures for ALL of the fields of practice • Evidence of all of the required experiences caring for a wide range of groups through learning opportunities in the Hub placements such as care pathways and in the form of spokes / short visits during this time across the health and social care sector • Evidence of achievement of all practice competencies • Working towards achieving (by end of year 3) all theory modules STEP 2 You will now need to refer to the PAR documentation and locate your records of practice learning related activities, any mandatory training and essential skills to support the achievement of practice competencies as well as on-line activities you have completed throughout the year to support your evidence base Once you have located his information you should now ready to complete the following activities, if not, you should consult early with your personal tutor who will advise and give you further direction.

 Use the basis of the information from activity 1, 2, 3.  Prepare your portfolio and is ready for review by your personal teacher and in preparation for interviews.  Applying for jobs and preparation for interview: Your CV has been updated; Personal specification (this can be checked by university careers or personal teacher), Interview skills and preparation, Attendance at job fair and job search portfolio (containing summary of applications and outcomes).  Continuing post registration opportunities Individual Action Plan for Progression to completion of programme/first staff nurse role (consider your readiness). Complete the action plan below taking account of further learning and areas for development from the above documentation and previous activities to support your on- going achievement of NMC competencies towards professional registration.
