We are so excited that recruitment for Fall 2023 is approaching and that you are considering joining Greek Life. The Panhellenic community can provide you an opportunity to excel academically with chapter scholarship opportunities. Joinging a Panhellenic group provides a great system as well as lifelong friendships and an organizattion that can help you grow as an individual.
On behalf of the Panhellenic community, we would like to provide you with this booklet of materials to help you prepare for Fall 2023 recruitment. Formal Recruitmentt has been planned by the Panhellenic Association. We aim to assist students in getting settled into classes, as well as visit chapters and meet your amazing Gamma Chis. Gamma Chis are also known as recruitment counselors and they will be working with you on finding your home away from home. They are women who are members of the seven Panhellenic chapters, and have left their sisters from their affiliation for a short time to help you through this amazing experience.
EKU has seven Panhellenic chapters that you will visit on the first two days of recruitment. The chapters are: Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Omicron Pi, Chi Omega, Delta Zeta, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Kappa Delta. The Panhellenic Council oversees recruitment to ensure each Potential New Member feels comfortable and that each chapter has a fair recruitment. The Panhellenic Council is a group of nine women from various chapters that were selected Fall 2022. The Panhellenic Council and Gamma Chis will be supporting you and will always be available to discuss your recruitment experience. Making decisions while in your first weeks of classes can be difficult, and we encourage you to open up to our Panhellenic Council and Gamma Chis to make the recruitment process easier. We are here for you! Recruitment is a great opportunity to meet new people and develop relationships within the first couple weeks of school. Please use all the resources we have provided for you to assist you in making the decision that best fits you and your needs.
We look forward to meeting you and helping you go through this fun and memorable process! We can't wait to show you what Greek life is all about!
With love,

PNM Bill of Rights
The right to be treated as an individual
The right to be fully informed about the recruitment process
The right to ask questions and receive true and objective answers from recruitment counselors and members
The right to be treated with respect
The right to be treated as a capable and mature person without being patronized
The right to ask how and why and recieve straight answers
The right to have and express opinions to recruitment counselors
The right to have inviolable confidentiallity when sharing information with recruitment counselors
The right to make informed choices without undue pressure from others
The right to be fully informed about the binding agreements implicit in the membership acceptance signing
The right to make ones own choice and decision and accept full responsibility for the results of that decision
The right to have a positive, safe, and enriching recruitment and new member experience
What a PNM Needs to Know
Ask questions when you do not understand
Some events will have more PNMs in attendence than others, and this is not a reflection of a chapter
You must attend all events for which you receieve an invitation. Failure to attend an event may jeopardize your ability to receive invitations
Being a legacy of a group does not ensure membership in that group
Accurate financial information regarding membership is available for you
All NPC organizations have policies against hazing
No chapter member may promise or imply the promise of a bid
You are expected to act politely and respectfully when attending an event. In return, you should expect to be treated politely and with respect.
Every women attending a preference event must appear on that sorority's bid list, but this does not ensure an invitation to join that particular sorority because recruitment is a mutual selection prorocess

You must be certain that you understand the Membership Recruitment
Acceptance Binding Agreement (MARABA) that you will be expected to sign immediately after attending the last preference event
Men, romantic partners, and alcohol are not permitted during recruitment or bid day activities
The Panhellenic sororities at EKU invest many hours putting together recruitment. Be mindful of this when asking about other options during rounds
Mutual Selection

Recruitment is a mutual selection process that balances the preferences of each potential new member (PNM) with those of the sorority chapters. The Panhellenic Council strives to allow every young women an opportunity to find a sorority that best suits her personality, interests, and future goals while providing an organized and unbiased membership selection process for the chapters.
Invitations are only guaranteed to PNMs for the first round (Thursday/Friday). There is no guarantee that a PNM will be invited to attend the second (Saturday) or final (Sunday) event rounds. Invitations to subsequent rounds are made based on the selections of the chapters and the preferences of the PNMs. PNM schedules will be maximized so they are able to meet with as many chapters as possible during the recruitment experience.
Therefore, there is no guarantee a women will receive a bid to any sorority. However, if a PNM progresses throughout the weekend, attends all the events she is invited to during the final event round, and lists each of those chapter(s) on her preference card that night, she will receive a bid to one of those chapters.

OpenMind

There is no specific formula that explains why a women is released from a particular chapter or why awomen prefers one chapter more than another. The Panhellenic Council makes every effort to allow each PNM the best opportunity to join the sorority of her choice, but there are no guarantees a young women will be places within that specific sorority. It is important to keep an open mind during the recruiment and to use the time to meet and make new friends!
Please understand the no chapter member can guarantee you a bid or an invitation to the next round, nor should they be pressuring you to rank a particular way. Although a paricular member may want you to be their sister, the mutual selection process is a lot more than that. Bid promising doesn't provide a fair, unbiased opportunity for out potential new members, therefore is not allowed. The Panhellenic Council strives to allow every young women an opportunity to find a sorority that bestt fits her values, interests, and personal goals. We do not want you to feel any pressure when ranking chapters, so it is important to keep an open mind Please contact your Gamma Chi or the Panhellenic Council if you feel you have been bid promised.

Leadership is defined as a process in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a shared goal. Holding a leadership position in a student organization is a great way to develop personal leadership skills, to network, and to build your resume. Many notable leadership positions on campus are held by members of fraternities and sororities including: Orientation leaders, GURUs, Student Government Association officers, and student athletes. Additionally, the sorority community gives members many leadership opportunities to lead within the chapters and in the community. Each chapter also has development programming including workshops on how to become an effective leader. The leadership skills you build at EKU can help you be a successful in the future.
During sorority recruitment, women want to learn all about your commitment to leadership!

Leadership Life

Sorority membership is a lifelong commitment. Sorority women value sisterhood and being together for support and fellowship. To join a sorority is to find your home away from home. If you are hoping to make new lifelong friends, membership in one of our value-based organizations can be the adventure of a lifetime. At EKU, sorority women engage in a variety of activities together. Women will attend regular chapter meetings, plan annual philanthropy events, and participate in sisterhood activities. Sisterhood activities might include movie nights, road trips, or social gatherings. Notable community traditions include Greek Week, Homecoming, and participation in various intramural sports. During sorority recruitment, we encourage you to connect with the women you meet!

Sororities are committed to scholastic excellence and lifelong learning. This is exemplified through academic performance. In addition to maintaining academic standards for members, chapters also provide support programs for members. Examples of support programs include study hours, mentors, incentive programs, and much more! During sorority recruitment, women want to learn all about your commitment to scholarship!
Scholarship Service
Sorority women reqularly dedicate their time and talent to bettering the world in which we live. This is accomplished through philanthropy and community service efforts. Each chapter holds a minimum of one signature philanthropy event each year to raise money for their selected cause.

Additionally, sorority women complete countless hours of community service both as a chapter and individually.
During sorority recruitment, women want to learn all about your commitment to service!

We live truly.
It's OUR PURPOSE
Each of us wants to make friends, learn new things and do something that matters. It's part of the human experience. You might say it's in our DNA, but that doesn't make it any easier to do. So in 1902, six young women formed an organization that would help them move these ideas forward.
