You’ll Love What You See! EKU Center for the Arts 2015/16 Season

eku center for the arts

Welcome

You’ll Love What You See in the 2015/16 season at EKU Center for the Arts! The credits of the artists performing in the EKU Center’s fifth season include a Tony Award, a Screen Actor’s Guild Award, a Golden Globe, and three Emmys. And that’s just Hal Holbrook. We also have a MacArthur Fellow, the dance troupe behind two different Kennedy Center Honors, an Oscar, and a combined haul of 71 Grammy Awards, including one for Lifetime Achievement. And that’s not all. In The Illusionists you’ll see the hottest special event from Broadway’s past season. With The Princess Bride you’ll enjoy a behind the scenes tour of one of this era’s most beloved movies with its star, Cary Elwes. The Canadian Brass, meanwhile, will welcome local high school musicians to the stage with them for a once-in-a-lifetime performance opportunity. Our 2015/16 season will lift your spirit, fill you with laughter, introduce you to some of the world’s most interesting young artists, and, indeed, bring the world to your backdoor. You’ll Love What You See! The EKU Center means more to this community, though, than just being the home for great entertainment. Last year the Center enriched the lives of over 13,000 students through our K-12 school matinee program and outreach activities which brought touring artists to Corbin, Manchester, Berea, and into classrooms across the EKU campus. The Center also played a leading role in local tourism and economic development by welcoming over 77,000 patrons from 375 Kentucky communities and 35 states, contributing over $4 million to the local economy. The Center also offers many programs and services to ensure You’ll Love What You See at your performance. Purchase an EKU Center spill-proof tumbler to enjoy a drink while watching the performance. Attend a pre-show lecture to learn more about the event you’re seeing. And don’t forget to take advantage of our ticket discounts for subscribers, seniors, students and youth, active and retired military, and groups. A great way to help the EKU Center expand its education programming, continue to bring a diversity of artists and keep ticket prices low is to join our Friends group. Membership also has its rewards. Friends enjoy preferred parking, advance notification of new shows, special receptions, artist meet and greets, and much more. There’s no better way to show your support and at the same time bring yourself closer to the arts you love. On behalf of the Center’s staff, board, volunteers, and over 75 student workers, we look forward to seeing you at the show! You’ll Love What You See!

The Screwtape Letters Wed, Oct 14 / 7:30 PM

+ Pr e- sh ow Activit ies

The Screwtape Letters is a smart, provocative and wickedly funny theatrical adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ novel about spiritual warfare. The play, set in an eerily stylish office in hell, follows the clever scheming of one of Satan’s senior tempters, Screwtape, as he advises his nephew, a junior tempter, on enticing a human “patient” toward damnation. The stakes are high as human souls are hell’s primary source of food. Sponsored by:

Their three-part harmonies, clever songs, and convulsively funny repartee are the perfect antidote to any gloom and doom.

Raul Midón is the kind of artist that makes true music fans twitch with pleasure. Blind since birth, his soaring voice and rapid-fire, flamenco-inspired guitar playing earned him a list of notable admirers (and future collaborators) including Herbie Hancock, Jason Mraz, and Stevie Wonder. But it’s the simplicity of what he does, the soul virtuosity that recalls his R&B roots that will leave you spellbound.
