Just like its Latin definition, this ADU serves as an eye inside and out, framing views of its curated site and interiors through graduatedthickness walls carved with niches. These recesses offer moments for seating, storage, and light, turning thickness into utility. The compact form minimizes heat loss, while natural materials and layered spaces foster warmth, privacy, and connection.

Attempt 1: The original saltbox roof with large skylights created more interior volume and surface area.

Attempt 2: Extruded roof with large skylights and increased envelope raise heating and cooling loads due to greater solar gain, heat loss, and larger air volume.

Attempt 3: Smaller skylights; wall assembly and triple glazing reduces heat loss, minimizes solar gain with insulation, lowers heating and cooling demands.

Our live-work building is an artist residency that fosters communication, creativity, and visibility between the public passerby and the resident artists. It features eight residential units with built-in workspaces, complemented by shared spaces such as a café and lobby on the ground floor, a gallery on the sixth floor, and an activated central stair encased in a vertical display to transform the building into a living exhibition.

PROJECT IN TANDEM WITH: MIGUEL ALVELO

Our project reimagines the fire station as a civic hub that fosters safety, engagement, and visibility.

It introduces small-scale structures that mediate the dynamics between public and private space, featuring curved walkways, organic seating, and a community stage. Complemented by interactive elements like a climbing wall and mural, the design transforms the site into an inviting microcosm of community life, integrating essential infrastructure with public gathering spaces.

Efficiency: Fire Trucks facing 124th Street;

Parking not interfering with fire trucks; Sanitation is given one continous spread of land.

Inviting: Maximize the amount of green

space; Greenery surrounding both the parking and fire station.

Non-invasive: Continous greenery running through the expanse of the entire block; Brings public space into the center of the block; Connects to pre-existing park.

Communion: Collection of small buildings reminiscent of the small shops local to the community; Shorter buildings clustered feel more communal and human-scale.

04 FRUIT OF THE LONDON PLANE PROJECT IN TANDEM WITH: AMANDA FABILLI

The London Plane tree is the most abundant tree in the park, which produces seed pods consumed by the local birds. The seed pods of our intervention are inspired by both the form and function of the envisioned structure. The “hive” with various types of functional pods embedded within the walls of the structure offer speckled lighting as well as ventilation that is dynamic according to season and time of day.

05 M I L S T E I N U N F O L D I N G My study examines the waterproofing mechanisms of the Milstein Stacks, focusing on how injection waterproofing, positive air pressure, and vestibule entryways work together to protect the book archives beneath Bryant Park. By integrating structural barriers with controlled permeability, the system maintains consistent humidity and temperature levels, ensuring the preservation of the collection.

PROJECT IN TANDEM WITH: AREFIN LABIB

This study explores CO₂-infused concrete, reinjecting the byproduct of cement production into the material itself using a precision-engineered pressurized chamber.

This process enhances structural properties while reducing emissions, aiming to create a more sustainable concrete that mitigates its environmental impact in the fight against climate change.

07 T H E E L I Z A B E T H H O U S E This isometric peeled view, taken from the southwestern perspective, allows for a detailed understanding of the construction of the various elements that makeup the foundation, superstructure, facade, and roofing of the Elizabeth H. Bates Houseas well as speak on how they interact with one another. This view also offers a stronger understanding of how the cantilevered roof uses elementes like tapered insulation to allow for its seemingly flat construction.

08 THE FLOATING BOX HOUSE PROJECT IN TANDEM WITH: MICHAEL-MONSALVE RAMIREZ

The Floating Box House, set among Austin’s live oaks, balances mass and void through steel and glass, creating a floating effect. A buried plinth minimizes visual weight, while expansive glass walls blur indoor-outdoor boundaries, framing the oaks and skyline. The contrast of transparent glass and solid steel enhances both openness and suspension within the landscape.
