Heart disease is still the number one killer, but in the last decade medical advances, using cutting-edge technology for outpatient procedures, are saving lives that would otherwise be lost.

To meet the growing demand there is a need to increase our number of doctors, purchase the latest technology and upgrade our procedure labs.

Thanks to our family of donors we commence construction of the new Cardiovascular Institute in January 2024.

CARDIOVASCULAR INSTITUTE The new Washington Family Center will be located in the center of our campus and construction begins January 2024. It will feature the four-story, 80,000-square-foot Cardiovascular Institute, it promises to consolidate the services of cardiology, cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery under one roof. The building will allow for outpatient office visits and diagnostics, more than ten cardiac and vascular labs, 100 exam rooms and much more.

There was one electrophysiology (EP) lab when I joined Eisenhower 24 years ago. I’ve experienced tremendous technical growth in EP and in procedures, accompanied by a significant growth in population, plus we’ve added doctors, but we continue to work with a single EP lab.

We simply do not have enough facilities to grow this program and satisfy the needs of our patients.

The groundbreaking for the new Cardiovascular Institute in early 2024 will be a historic day!

I am so grateful that our donors are able to fund this lifesaving facility.

RENKER WELLNESS CENTER In February 2023 the Renker Wellness Center was opened after being relocated and reimagined on the Eisenhower Health main campus. The move doubled the space to 10,000 square feet and freed space for the future Cardiovascular Institute.

The Center staff is dedicated to returning patients to productive, active lifestyles as well as educating the community to prevent a cardiac event. Inside the space, patients have brand-new exercise equipment to use, like treadmills and stationary bikes, all monitored by health care professionals.

The Center has expanded its cardiac, pulmonary and vascular rehab offerings to include the Pritikin cardiac rehabilitation program, a famous heart health diet, consisting of foods with low saturated fat and high protein content.

Our doctors do an amazing job of saving lives, but it needs to be paired with our program at Renker Wellness for success.

Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation is the hard work we do, persuading patients to make changes to improve their qualty of ilfe.

Our program grows annually and the latest has doubled the number of sessions for patients.

Our relocated facility has doubled our capacity to keep pace with the growing number of patients.

MARK AND PAULA HURD CANCER PAVILION In the Spring of 2023 construction began on the Mark and Paula Hurd Cancer Pavilion.

The 12,000-square-foot remodel and facility expansion will add 17 exam rooms and other clinical space to support 4 medical oncologists/hematologists, including a full-time dedicated breast oncologist, as well as 4 nurse practitioners/physician assistants and support staff.

The renovation of existing space will add 13 exam rooms and allow for the addition of a new fellowship-trained breast cancer surgeon and expansion of gynecologic oncology services.

It includes specialty oncology services delivered in collaboration with UC San Diego Health medical experts and new clinics focused on patients that are newly diagnosed or at high risk for developing breast cancer.

We have excellent care, we have expert physicians in multiple specialties, access to clinical trials, the newest treatments and medications, new equipment and technology, and a staff that cares deeply about our patients.

Now, we have the funds to take Eisenhower’s truly remarkable cancer treatment to new heights by adding the Mark and Paula Hurd Cancer Pavilion, a facility which will bring together, in one place, quality cancer services with the healing focus on the whole person.

SAUL AND JOYCE BRANDMAN MEMORY CARE CENTER All too frequently illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, Parkinson’s disease or stroke, glaucoma, and other cognitive impairments, can leave an individual and their family cut off from opportunities for social engagement, physical activities, and mental stimulation.

In late 2023, construction begins on the 20,000-square-foot Saul and Joyce Brandman Memory Care Center. The center will offer solutions to families and caregivers who are struggling to manage everyday lives and successful care of their loved one.

We are eternally grateful to the Saul and Joyce Brandman Foundation, as well as the Eisenhower Health Dolores Hope Auxiliary, for their generosity in making this become a reality.

SPECIALTY CLINICS One of Eisenhower's greatest needs is providing expanded access to physicians and specialists. The Specialty Clinics Building located at the Washington Family Center is a three-story, 50,000-square-foot building.

Cardiovascular has two major drives.

The first is to expand the imaging center to increase intake for invasive and interventional procedures within the new Cardiovascular Pavilion.

The second is to create the outpatient center where patients come for office visits and undergo testing — echocardiograms, stress tests, other kinds of imaging studies all within one Institute.

NEW INPATIENT PHARMACY A modern inpatient pharmacy is crucial because it ensures timely access to medications, enhances patient safety, and promotes better coordination of care, benefitting patients by streamlining medication management, reducing errors, and ultimately contributing to improved health outcomes.
