The RISD Museum believes that art, artists, and the institutions that support them play pivotal roles in promoting broad civic engagement and creating more open societies.

Established in 1877 as part of a vibrant creative community, the RISD Museum stewards works of art representing diverse cultures from ancient times to the present.

We interpret our collection with the focus on the maker and we deeply engage with art and artists, presenting ideas and perspectives that can be inspiring and complex. We aspire to create an accessible and inclusive environment that fosters meaningful relationships across all communities.

The Logo The RISD Museum logo serves as the primary visual representation of the museum.

The symbol is an abstract interpretation of the letter “R,” reflecting the initial.

It can stand alone if the RISD Museum is clearly identified as the sender or when the format necessitates specific treatment.

Don’ts The logotype must not be altered or distorted in any way. The effectiveness of the logotype depends on consistently correct usage as outlined in this guideline. The examples shown illustrate some incorrect uses of the logotype.

Helvetica We use the font Helvetica. It’s a timeless Sans Serif known for its clean, modern design and versatility across various applications.

Weights Light and regular is our primary weight use. The bold version should only be used when needed.

Helvetica regular Used for large headings.

Helvetica light Used for body copy, secondary headings, sub-headings in body copy and text highlights in web buttons and navigation.

Italic Italic can be used to emphasise words within a text.
