WHO WE ARE EHINGER SCHWARZ 1876 About 140 years ago Otto Ehinger opened its jewellery manufacture workshop. Over 20 years ago Wolf-Peter Schwarz – his great grandson developed the jewellery line Charlotte. Charlotte, the Original! A milestone with the name Ehinger Schwarz was set in the history of jewellery design. Many innovative art and jewellery concepts have been born here – romantic, revolutionary, aesthetic, amazing, valuable, funny, always decorative and always adorning.
Ute Weiß, a professional in the areas of art and design is responsible for the creative part of the company. She is the perfect complement to her husband. Together, they look forward to this exciting task at Ehinger Schwarz. Also new to the team and yet not an unknown face: The new chief designer Timo Kuechler. He knows the company since the late 1980s and maintained a cordial relationship with the Company.
2015 is again a year full of ideas and innovations: new faces, new names, people with new perspectives have joined us. They are open to changes and committed to the preservation of good and long established values.
Everything is changing, much remains exactly as it is – because it is good! And everyone in the team has high expectations for the future.
Ute and Dr. Christoph Weiß joined EHINGER SCHWARZ 1876 already two years ago as investors. The Schwarz family has now handed over the reins to the Weiß family – no pun intended. Dr. Christoph Weiß, an experienced business graduate and successful textbook author, has made a name for himself as a corporate consultant and managing director of various companies and has an esteemed reputation.

HIGHLIGHTS Glamorous ‘What splendour in my hut’ a charming compliment – quoting the famous German poet Schiller – for extraordinary beauty. Humankind has always been fascinated by glitter and sparkle. There is something magical when light breaks into silvery rays: whether on the surface of a large lake or in just a drop of water on shiny metal, or on sparkling diamonds. Pomp and glory are not without reason an inseparable pair: Any natural light phenomenon – no matter if it is the rays of sunlight, the brightness of the moon, the iridescence of the Northern Lights, or the magic of a rainbow – it radiates something heavenly, divine and angelic and was always interpreted in a religious context. In many jewellery materials we find this heavenly brilliance: Sun inspired gold, cultured pearl reminiscent of the moon, diamonds sparkling like the sea and rainbow iridescent gems captivate our attention. Four tiny prongs hold the individual stones, which are put in its exact position by the computer-controlled device. The actual settings of the diamonds are done by hand. You see the gems created by Nature: she coloured the diamonds in many different shades. We are always searching for the warmest sparkles and scatter them randomly over the dome. BEST OF HAPPY COLORS A World of Its Own Colors have great power – they can enchant you and repel you, harmonise or provoke. One knows from art, fashion, interior design and advertising: Colors create moods, awake feelings and not infrequently they also divide opinions: Some prefer continuous harmony, others love to play with a wide range of diversity. Franz Marc, painter and co-founder of the artist group ‘Der blaue Reiter’ (The blue rider) is quoted as saying: ‘Blue is the only color in which I feel comfortable.’ We think it may be a bit more: Our edition ‘Happy Colors’ captures fresh colours and bold forms in cheerful ways.

FIRE Enamel has been around for over 3000 years. Creating it is a highly sophisticated art – more than just craftsmanship. It takes many years of experience and expertise and intuition: Special coloured glasses are crushed in a mortar to a powder, mixed with distilled water and applied on the precious metal with extremely thin brushes. It takes a lot of concentration and skill, because this is painting with a very unyielding ‘color’!
Extremely hot! The enameled piece is put into a furnace, where the glass eventually melts, it turns shiny and merges with the metal. Perfect timing is essential! Because the glass liquifies only slightly earlier than the precious metal. Just a second too long, and the piece is ‘burned’. If the firing process is too short, the color is wrong and will separate from the metal. The right timing is pure intuition and experience - These skills are passed on from generation to generation. Our master enamelers are truly masters. Ehinger Schwarz practices and maintains this technique of enameling since decades – as one of the last German manufacturers.

CHARLOTTE LIVE A Golden Child Alexa Feser is one of the most interesting musical discoveries of the last year. Faith, Patience and Luck Alexa had to deal with her first criticism when she 6 years of age: her piano teacher certifies her lack of talent, because she had a difficult time playing from sheet music. Later, she lived through long dry spells when her demo tapes were rejected and even first releases came and went unrecognized. But Alexa has a strong personality and encountered people who believe in her. In her childhood, it is a second piano teacher who teaches her to play by ear and to improvise. Later, in Berlin, it is her colleague and songwriter Steve van Velvet, the successful producer Andreas Herbig and the record company Warner Music. During the nearly three decades Alexa Feser perseveres with a strong determination and stays afloat with numerous jobs. She gets jobs as a background singer, but her success as a solo artist is still waiting in the wings. Shortly before the petite beauty gives up on her music career, she has her breakthrough.

MYRTLE As a symbol of vitality and love the myrtle has been dedicated to the Greek goddess Aphrodite. The custom to decorate a bride with twigs of myrtle has been preserved from the ancient Greeks and Romans to the present day. As significant in their meaning, as modest is the appearance of myrtle. COLLECTOR, OBSERVER, DESIGNER Timo Kuechler is the new design and marketing manager at Ehinger Schwarz. To him, jewellery is an expression of personality. He says: ‘jewellery goes straight to the heart, and from there into the mind, only to end up back in the heart.’ In this spirit:
Welcome, Timo Kuechler! You can already tell by his quiet and reserved manner, Timo Kuechler is always alert! He sees, feels, observes, absorbs and is fascinated by materials, shapes, structures and phenomenons. Timo likes things. He gathers them to look at and study them and to show them. Approximately 5,000 specimens embraces his phenomenological collection ranging from beautiful shells to the ring from a gum ball machine to perfectly designed design objects. Because ‘all things have an impact on us’, says the designer. And he wants that we observe them with respect and sensitivity. Timo Kuechler’s creations of jewellery pieces reflect his school of thought. One can see in them the philosophical core of its creator – and always his love for people. ‘It is a real adventure, an idea to develop a product. It is a great journey with a variety of vehicles and maps’ says the design and marketing manager, who is also a graphic designer, brand manager, concept planner, shop designer, businessman and photographer and one who personally cares for
his creations and nurtures them to completion. With Timo Kuechler every beginning has its own magic: ‘The first few seconds are the most important. It is a treasure that we must preserve’. The fact that Timo Kuechler alternates his initial intuition during the design process with systematic work which may be a part of his recipe for success. The experienced designer has been awarded numerous prestigious awards: the Red Dot Award by the Design competition of the Federal Republic of Germany. 25 years ago he already spent some time working for Ehinger Schwarz – alongside Wolf-Peter Schwarz. In the intervening years, he designed and developed products for renowned companies such as Niessing, Rodenstock, Wilkhahn and HEWI. He is also a guest lecturer at various design schools in Germany and Switzerland since the 1980s. In all these years the work of Timo Kuechler is often defined by surprises, versatile and multi-functional – a manuscript that perfectly matches our Charlotte concept.
