5 The Verb

EGON / IBILI In some regions the form ARI IZAN is hardly ever used, but the verbs EGON or IBILI are used instead. They apply a nuance to the main verb of a steady state or a continuous action respectively. Here are some examples:

EGON IBILI

- a static action. - a dynamic action.

There are some verbs that don't behave regularly for a variety of reasons so we have to 100k at each one individuaIly.

5.9.3. 1. Lagundu - Help, Accompany The verb lagundu can be conjugated as NOR-NORK (dut) and as NOR-NORI-NORK, but this varies its meaning. Here is a pair of examples:

Etxera lagundu DUT Egiten lagundu DIOT

: I have accompanied (her/him) home. { accompany } : I have helped her/him do it. { to help }

5.9.3.2. Utzi - Leave, Let, Stop The verb utzi can be conjugated in both ways, giving different meanings. Here are some ex amples:

Erretzen utzi DUT

: I have left himlher smoking. { left him to him-

Erretzen utzi DIOT ErreTZEARI utzi DIOT

: I have let hirnlher smoke. { by agreement } : I have stopped smoking. { stopped} { I have left o ff from smoking; Iit. }
