School Notes: News from Peoria Unified School District Information and Photo Courtesy of Peoria Unified School District (PUSD) PEORIA UNIFIED APPROVES CURRENT SUPERINTENDENT TO CONTINUE THROUGH 2024 During a recent Peoria Unified Governing Board meeting, the Board unanimously approved Jason W. Reynolds, Ed.D., to continue as Peoria Unified’s superintendent through the 2023-24 school year. Reynolds has served as superintendent since July 1, 2020. “Dr. Reynolds is a courageous leader with a growth mindset who ensures student success both academically and socially,” says Board President David Sandoval. “Peoria Unified has real obstacles ahead as we continue to grapple with the impact of the pandemic, and I am confident that Dr. Reynolds is the one to lead our great district through this recovery. The board’s unanimous vote to extend his contract is a testament to the quality of the person that he is and his proven leadership skills.”
Board meeting schedule. The meeting times for this year will remain at 6 p.m. and will continue to be held on the second and fourth Thursday of every month, with a few exceptions. The approved meeting schedule, as well as the link to stream the Governing Board meetings live, is posted on the district’s website at peoriaunified.org. PRESCHOOL PROGRAM HONORED WITH PRESTIGIOUS AWARD Peoria Unified’s partnership with Glendale Community College (GCC), offering a preschool program as a part of their Early Childhood Education (ECE) Lab, received a first place award in the collaboration category for the Arizona School Boards Association (ASBA) Golden Bell Promise Program. To win, the program needs to be student-oriented and demonstrate leadership and a commitment to educational equity with excellent outcomes for all students. “We could not be more pleased of the incredible opportunity to highlight this collaboration that we know has a lasting impact on a child’s early educational career,” shares Dr. Reynolds, PUSD superintendent. “It is strong partnerships, like the one we have with Glendale Community College, that allow us to contribute to the vibrant quality of life in Glendale and Peoria and impact our future generation.” KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION NOW OPEN AT PEORIA UNIFIED As a public school district that has demonstrated excellence in education since 1889, PUSD values their community and offers programming to meet each child’s specific needs, according to the district. This winter and spring, all Peoria Unified elementary schools will hold tours and Connect to Kindergarten events for families to come learn all about the kindergarten process. In addition, Peoria Unified will hold a virtual Kindergarten Live event to highlight the district’s kindergarten program and answer parent questions.
