Family members caring for a loved one living with dementia strive to provide compassionate care but are often frustrated by challenging behaviors. “What worked yesterday often doesn’t work today,” says Dr. Gillian Hamilton, medical director of the Dementia Care and Education Campus. “Even professional caregivers get discouraged and wonder if there is a better way.”
In fact, there is.
The Campus, located in the heart of Arcadia, offers an array of community resources at no charge to families — from in-person support groups that welcome both caregivers and their persons with dementia to online offerings for people who prefer receiving support and dementia education via Zoom.
One popular resource is a series of powerful videos that help caregivers deal with challenging situations. Funded by a federal grant, Hospice of the Valley’s Dementia Program created scenarios that demonstrate how using a personalized approach to caregiving helps preserve dignity, convey a sense of safety, and enhance quality of life. Volunteer actors play the part of caregiver and the people living with dementia. The videos tackle a host of problematic situations, including hygiene, hallucinations, and “wanting to go home.”
Mealtimes can also be contentious. Caregivers commonly speak and move too quickly, rushing the person with dementia. The videos illustrate how taking the time to build a connection and using a slower pace can relax the person with dementia. The caregiver also uses gestures to demonstrate eating and assesses the level of skill in using utensils. And finally, the video show how the caregiver places her hand under the person’s hand to gently guide as he eats, but giving the impression that he is feeding himself. Throughout the entire meal, she provides positive feedback.
Another video addresses how to approach someone
with mild dementia. When the caregiver enters the room abruptly and rushes “Janice” to quickly stand up and go to the dining room, Janice is rattled and resists. The situation continues to escalate as the caregiver tries to force cooperation.
In the personalized approach, the caregiver stoops to eye level, introduces herself and uses sincere compliments to establish rapport (“I like that color on you, it brings out your eyes”). The caregiver taps into personal preferences (“they have dessert, I know you like that”) and offers her a choice (“do you want cake or pie”). When she calmly extends a helping hand, Janice agrees to follow.
In real life, Janice is caring for her husband of 65 years, with support from his siblings, who also volunteered as actors. “We all wanted to be involved with this project because we are living it firsthand,” she shared. “It’s nice to know this will help other families who are overwhelmed. We learned so much and they will too.”
Playing the part of caregiver is Rebekah Wilson, a former Hospice of the Valley social worker who specializes in dementia care. “I created these training modules to change the way we think about people living with dementia. Why focus on what they cannot do? Instead, let’s enhance life in this moment and celebrate who they are now.”
Mike, Janice, and Mimi are excited to apply what they learned to support their loved one with dementia.
HI, MY NAME IS… Danielle Betterman, director of Better Piggies Rescue.
I’VE LIVED IN THE VALLEY FOR MY ENTIRE LIFE (I’M AN ARIZONA NATIVE) AND I LOVE IT BECAUSE… the weather is perfect, even when it’s hot. We have the best wildlife, and our sunsets are amazing!
A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE INCLUDES… taking care of over 175 rescue pigs, which include pot belly pigs and farm hogs. Our sanctuary is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, and education of pig ownership in Arizona. Our amazing volunteers and I ensure they have plenty of food, poop picked up, shelters cleaned, and medical needs assessed.
MY FAMILY IS… the amazing rescue pigs that call Better Piggies home. We have small and large pigs, plus three rescue cows. Additionally, I’m happy to call our volunteers a part of the family because they love and care for the rescues like their own.
ONE THING I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IS… plenty of piggy treats like fruits and veggies, Oreos, and Cheerios. We work with the local food bank and various donors to provide the best possible meals and treats to the pigs.
MY FAVORITE MOVIE I COULD NEVER GET TIRED OF WATCHING AND WHY IS… “Babe.” It’s a crowd favorite around here.
WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I WANTED TO BE… an animal rescuer, just like my father. Based on his teachings, I was able to fulfill that dream.
THE SONG I WOULD SING AT KARAOKE NIGHT IS… “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath. I hope that everyone is seeing a theme here.
THE ONE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES ME IS… my amazing friend and loyal volunteer Beth. She is kind and loving but also helps with feeding and numerous pig rescues. I would be nowhere without my friends/volunteers. They are the best extended family I and the piggies could ask for.
THE LAST THING THAT MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD WAS… anything the pigs are doing which goes right on our TikTok page (@betterpiggies). We want everyone to see how amazingly nerdy these pigs are and how much smarter they are than other animals.
THE PERFECT DAY IS… sitting at the sanctuary, hanging with the pigs, knowing they are happy, healthy, and free from harm.
MY FAVORITE LOCAL NONPROFIT IS… Better Piggies Rescue and to find out more about tours or volunteering, please visit our website at betterpiggiesrescue. org
MY LIFE IS… hard but rewarding. You meet the worst people when rescuing an animal but also the best that help
with the rescue or their extended care. This isn’t a life for everyone but I’m happy to share it in any capacity people request.
THE BEST GIFT I’VE EVER RECEIVED WAS… my first ever pig, Beezers. He was a Christmas gift 12 years ago, he is the reason for the rescue, and he is my best friend and the love of my life.
MY DREAM VACATION WOULD BE… vacation? What is a vacation? You can’t go on vacation with 175-plus pigs that you have to take care of daily.
THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED IS… “Whenever you feel sad or lonely and need a friend, just cuddle up to a rescue pig. You will have a friend and cuddle buddy for life.”

Get ready to channel the luck of the Irish with a dazzling science project perfect for kids aged 8 to 14! This experiment combines creativity, basic chemistry, and the festive spirit of St. Patrick's Day.
MATERIALS
• Borax (found in the laundry aisle; remember, it's natural but not safe to ingest or inhale, so handle with care)
• Boiling water
• A wide-mouth glass mason jar
• Green and white pipe cleaners
• String
• A pencil
• Food coloring (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Shape Your Shamrock:
Twist your pipe cleaners into a shamrock shape. You can find shamrock templates online for guidance.
2. Prepare Your Solution:
For each mason jar, mix three cups of boiling water with ½ cup of Borax. The more saturated your solution, the larger your crystals will grow. Stir until the Borax is completely dissolved, and the solution is clear. Add a few drops of food coloring if you wish.
3. Suspend Your Shamrock:
Tie a string around the stem of your pipe cleaner shamrock, then tie the other end to a pencil. Gently lower the shamrock into the solution, ensuring it doesn't touch the sides or bottom of the jar. Place the jar in a spot where it won't be disturbed.
4. Wait for the Magic:
Let the jar sit undisturbed overnight. By morning, your pipe cleaner shamrock will be transformed into a sparkling, crystal-encrusted decoration.
5. Display Your Creation:
Carefully remove the shamrock from the solution, cut off the string, and display it in your window to catch the light.
EDUCATIONAL TWIST
This fun project is not only a great way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day but also offers a fantastic opportunity to explore the science behind crystal formation. Discuss how a supersaturated solution allows for crystal growth on the pipe cleaner's surface, illustrating the principles of solubility, saturation, and crystallization. It's a magical blend of learning and festive crafting!
North Valley Junk Removal is committed to community and environmental stewardship.
In North Phoenix, a unique business thrives—not just on its commercial success but on a commitment to community welfare and environmental stewardship. North Valley Junk Removal, steered by Dustin Holm and his family, is more than a conventional trash removal service.
Founded in 2016 by Holm, a dedicated Valley resident since 2009, the company has blossomed into a vital community service. "As a business, we recognize the importance of giving back to the community that sustains us," says Holm. This ethos permeates every facet of their operation, from their participation in local charities to launching ambitious environmental initiatives.
Holm's vision is simple yet profound: "At North Valley Junk Removal, we aim to do more than the minimum. We strive to leave places better than we found them, nurturing a culture of care and responsibility among our team." This philosophy has led to their most notable endeavor, the Don’t Dump in Our Desert initiative. Launched under Holm’s guidance, this volunteer-driven campaign focuses on cleaning desert areas around North Phoenix, which suffer from illegal dumping. To date, this initiative has successfully cleared over 150,000 pounds of litter and more than 1,000 tires and the group just completed their 25th volunteer cleanup event.
Illegal dumping, a significant blight in the area, has various culprits, including other junk removal businesses, contractors, homeowners, and even abandoned homeless camps. Holm's program, initiated in 2020 out of his love for the outdoors and dismay at the rampant trash, has become a community rallying point, attracting up to 60 volunteers per event.
For his significant efforts, Holm was honored in 2021 with the Community Impact Award by the Anthem Area Chamber of Commerce and a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition by Rep. Debbie Lesko. However, his dedication extends beyond desert cleanups. North Valley Junk Removal is also involved in Adopt-a-Road efforts, recently clearing 18 bags of trash along four miles of roadside and contributes to the Foothills Food Bank by offering discounts to customers who donate nonperishable goods. The company’s services range widely, dealing with everything from regular garbage to large, unwanted items like pianos, hot tubs, sheds, pool fencing, and more. Holm, his wife Elizabeth, and their 24-year-old son Nathan prioritize recycling and donating usable items to local thrift stores and organizations. They are particularly careful with special items, such as ensuring the proper retirement of American flags through local Boy Scouts organizations. North Valley Junk Removal is more than environmental and charitable efforts; it stands out for its professionalism and efficiency. With over 19 years of experience in furniture, logistics, moving, and construction, Holm and his team have built a reputation for reliable, high-quality service, evident in customer testimonials that frequently praise their punctuality, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
As for the future, Holm's vision for his company is clear: to continue serving the community through their core services and their extensive charity work. "We firmly believe that to truly be a part of the community, we must contribute to its wellbeing," says Holm.
Those interested in junk removal services or wishing to support their charitable efforts can reach North Valley Junk Removal at 623-469-5623 or visit their website at northvalleyjunkremoval.com.

On April 2, Arizona will witness an extraordinary surge of generosity as the annual Arizona Gives Day unfolds. This 24-hour online giving extravaganza, initiated by AZ Impact for Good in 2013, is not just a day but a movement that has galvanized the spirit of giving across the state.
With nearly $42 million raised since its inception, Arizona Gives Day illustrates the power of collective philanthropy and its transformative impact on the nonprofit sector.
Arizona is home to more than 20,000 nonprofits, from small grassroots organizations to large charities, all dedicated to making the Grand Canyon State a better place to live. These organizations touch every aspect of life, providing essential services that range
from healthcare and education to environmental conservation and the arts. The economic footprint of these nonprofits is substantial, with an annual impact of $23.5 billion, accounting for nearly 8% of the state's gross product and making the sector the fifth largest non-government employer.
The urgency to support these vital organizations has never been greater. Arizona Gives Day is a lifeline for many nonprofits that rely on donations to sustain their operations and expand their reach. The initiative not only raises funds but also increases awareness about the critical role nonprofits play in our communities and the state at large.
The unique online platform provided by azgives.org facilitates a direct connection between donors and causes they care about. It's a place where stories of
hope and resilience are shared, where the community can learn about the diverse needs across Arizona, and where every donation, big or small, contributes to the greater good. The platform is accessible year-round, allowing for ongoing support through scheduled or recurring donations, but it's on Arizona Gives Day that the state comes together in a remarkable display of generosity.
The benefits of participating in Arizona Gives Day extend beyond the immediate financial boost to nonprofits. It's an investment in the future of Arizona, creating a stronger, more vibrant community for all. Donations not only support the delivery of critical services but also contribute to the state's economy, strengthening it from within.
As Arizona Gives Day 2024 approaches, the call to action is clear: let's unite to support the heart of our state—the nonprofit organizations that work tirelessly to improve our lives. Whether you're a lifelong Arizonan or new to the state, your gift on April 2 will help ensure that these essential organizations can continue their important work.
Together, we can make a lasting impact and demonstrate the true power of collective giving. Your contribution, no matter the size, will help strengthen and sustain the dynamic tapestry of nonprofits that make Arizona a place we're proud to call home.
Let's show the world the generous spirit of Arizona on this day of giving.

On Saturday, April 6, from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Phoenix nonprofit St. Joseph the Worker (SJW) will host its 26th Annual Hike for Hope at McDowell Mountain Regional Park’s Pemberton Trailhead located at 16300 McDowell Mountain Park Dr., in Fountain Hills.
The Hike for Hope event offers participants a choice between a 1.5-mile or 4.5-mile hike, offering a fun and interactive way for people of all ages
and their pets to make a difference in the community. Registration is $50 for adults and $10 for all children under the age of 13 and includes an adult T-shirt and breakfast with coffee. All proceeds will directly empower the nonprofit in eliminating obstacles to employment, equipping clients with the necessary resources to achieve financial success and self-sufficiency.
"As we embark on our 26th Annual Hike for Hope, we are reminded of the power of community and compassion," says Carrie Masters, CEO of St. Joseph the Worker. "Through this event, we not only raise vital funds but also awareness and hope for those striving for financial independence. Inspiring change, step by step, towards a brighter future for all."
With a goal of raising $100,000, SJW has implemented a friendly competition leaderboard on the event page, which highlights the top fundraisers. Hike for Hope participants can register and make
donations as individuals or teams. The top two individual fundraisers will be given prizes. Teams are also encouraged to come in costume. The best team costume will receive a catered lunch for 10 by Helpings Cafe, a social enterprise that helps end homelessness in the community.
In addition, SJW is organizing a 50/50 raffle for the event. Tickets can be purchased online or onsite for $5 each, with the option to bundle three tickets for $10 or six tickets for $20. The winner will receive 50% of the raffle proceeds, while the remaining 50% will directly support SJW. The drawing will take place on the day of the event, and participants do not need to be present to win.
Parking at McDowell Mountain Regional Park is free for event participants. SJW suggests hikers bring a water bottle, sun hat, sunscreen, hiking shoes, and cash or credit cards to purchase raffle tickets, as well as waste bags and a water bowl for pets.
Founded in 1988, St. Joseph The Worker offers free employment services through its Employment Without Barriers Program and transitional housing through its Workforce Villages program. In fiscal year 2023, SJW provided its services to more than 10,000 individuals, a 37% increase over the previous year and the largest number of clients served in its 35-year history. The organization extends its reach to clients residing in more than 50 ZIP codes across the Valley through its three locations.
SJW is a Qualifying Charitable Organization (QCO) for the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit. Arizona residents can use QCO code: 20248 to receive a dollar-for-dollar Arizona state tax credit of up to $421 for individuals and $841 for couples filing jointly.

Yikes! It’s March 2024, and just like that, I’ve clocked 40 years playing in the real estate sandbox! Can you believe it? Feels like just yesterday I stumbled into Scottsdale North to work at Desert Mountain. Back then, it was a landscape dominated by endless stretches of Sonoran Desert, where two-lane roads meandered through a sea of cacti, extending as far as the eye could see. The new development was just beginning in the area. The focus? The Baby Boomers – folks in their 50s eager to embark on exciting new chapters with second homes or transitioning into retirement in these innovative golf and lifestyle communities. Those times were buzzing with energy, when everyone was excited about kicking off some of the best periods of their lives.
NEW CHAPTER ALERT!
Fast forward 30 years, and bam, we’re flipping the script. Those same cool Boomers? They’re on the downsizing train. Big move? Absolutely. It’s all about peeling back to the essentials. This new adventure? It’s buzzing with a different kind of electricity, maybe even more charged than before. But the thought of wading through a sea of stuff, deciding what’s a keeper and what’s a goner, and the actual move? It’s like climbing Black Mountain wearing flip-flops. It’s that familiar feeling of knowing it’s
time for a change but facing up to the task. That takes guts. Just like before, though, this chapter’s got its own sparkle, full of chances for new joys and discoveries, even if it feels a bit tough to start. Here’s a little reminder of why this move can be not just an address change but a significant upgrade to your lifestyle.
Imagine Chopping Those Bills: Imagine slashing those chunky utility bills and maintenance nightmares. Downsizing? Means more money in your pocket for the things you love.
Equity = Travel Fund: Selling the family estate not only pads your bank account but could turn your dream vacation into a “let’s book it” situation. Talk about a safety net with style.
Less Hassle, More Harmony: A smaller home means you’re not spending every weekend battling with the upkeep. Instead, you’re out living your best life, diving into hobbies, or just kicking back in your snuggly new spot.
Declutter and Discover Joy: This is your golden ticket to sift through years of treasures (and, let’s be honest, some junk), keeping only what sparks joy. It’s not just about space; it’s about sculpting a lifestyle that’s all about the happy vibes. Your mind will be clearer!
Community: In Scottsdale North, smaller homes or communities often come with built-in social networks. You’ll find yourself surrounded by neighbors who are in a similar life stage, ready to forge new friendships and share in new adventures.
Tailor-Made for the Win: Many downsized homes are built with the future in mind, offering features that will allow you to live comfortably and safely as your needs evolve.
Redefine and Rejuvenate: Downsizing is your launchpad to reinvent your day-to-day, aligning it more closely with your passions and dreams, minus the clutter that’s been cramping your style.
Embrace the Zen: With fewer possessions and a cozy living space, you’re signing up for a stress-level nosedive. Hello, peaceful vibes and a big ol’ sigh of contentment. Remember, less is more!
I get it, staring down a mountain of boxes and tough decisions feels like a Herculean task. But keep those eyes on the prize. Downsizing isn’t just a change of address; it’s an epic lifestyle glow-up, unlocking resources and making space for new adventures and friendships. Dive into this chapter with gusto – the rewards are massive, and the journey, while daunting now, is gonna be one for the books. And hey, don’t sweat the nitty-gritty — a great local agent can make this whole process way easier than you’d ever imagine. Agents who understand the unique needs of downsizing individuals have many resources to lighten your load. Seriously, you’ll be wondering why you didn’t do it sooner.
NOT READY TO DOWNSIZE? SEE HOW YOU CAN STILL ACCESS YOUR HOME’S EQUITY!
For those not ready to downsize, exploring ways to access home equity without moving can provide financial flexibility. Our latest podcast episode at connectingscottsdalenorth.com explores innovative ways to unlock your home equity without moving. Change is inevitable. Your estate plan might have been perfect when you first did it, but with time comes change, and your plan may need some updates. So, when should you review – and possibly renew – your estate plan?
Have you had any major changes in your life? Has your spouse died? Did you get a divorce? Have you gotten married? Have your children gotten older, and had children? These changes mean you need an update to your plan.
minors, that’s a clear sign that changes are needed. A beneficiary’s life changes may need to be considered in your plan: a beneficiary who is going through a rough patch in their marriage or has creditor issues may need protections for their inheritance that weren’t necessary before.
One change that can make a difference in your plan isn’t even something you brought about. Federal or state law may change, necessitating a change to your plan. For instance, in Arizona, the legislature enacted a version of the Uniform Trust Code in 2008. If your estate plan was put in place before 2008, you should update your trust because the law on which it was based has changed substantially
Other changes that may necessitate a change include an increase (or decrease) in your net worth; receiving an inheritance; moving here from another state; buying a second home, rentals, or assets in another state.
When you put your estate plan in place, you made the best choice for who would take charge of your estate at that time. As time passes, that choice may no longer be the best. Has your agent or trustee aged or become ill, or passed away? Looking at who you named as your trustees and agents is an important step in determining if you need an update.
Who are your beneficiaries, and what is their current situation? If you put your plan in place when your children were
In addition, the federal estate tax exemption fluctuates, and is now $13 million per person, but going down in 2026. Your estate plan might have been put in place when the exemption was much lower (in the 1990s the exemption was only $600,000). You may have needed a complex estate plan to avoid the 40% estate tax. Now, you may not need that complex planning, and a far simpler plan can be put in place for your spouse and children to administer. If your estate plan was created before 2012, you should have a review.
If you know you need changes, or your trust was done before 2012, I am happy to meet with you for either a 15-minute phone consultation or a free initial consultation. Call us at 602-375-6752 or go to libbybanks.com.
Tom Padilla, just three months postgraduation from physical therapy school, faced a health crisis with swollen joints and limited mobility, leading to a misdiagnosis of arthritis. This misstep on his medical journey led him to discover the true cause: mold toxicity. Recovering from this ordeal, Dr. Padilla founded The Doctors of Physical Therapy (DPT) in Scottsdale, with a commitment to prevent such misdiagnoses for his clients.
DPT stands out by ensuring that every patient feels heard, fostering collaboration among healthcare providers, and setting meaningful recovery goals. This approach stems from Padilla’s own experiences in a high-volume clinic, where personalized care was scarce.
Proudly, DPT has aided over 1,500 people in six years, debunking the notion that conditions like back pain or sciatica are unchangeable. By focusing on the root cause rather than symptomatic management, the clinic has seen remarkable success in restoring patients’ quality of life, including a notable case where a patient avoided further back surgery through DPT’s targeted care.
Dr. Padilla, a University of Southern California graduate, leverages his platform on YouTube to share exercise tips and professional insights, further emphasizing DPT’s mission to offer a transparent, effective path to recovery without reliance on medication or surgery.

Many of us, as we age, experience what we in functional medicine refer to as brain fog. Brain fog is a descriptive term for a decline in memory performance, where we forget names as people stand in front of us, the locations we’re heading to, or even the names of buildings or towns. It’s not only embarrassing but also a sign that our brain may be inflamed and possibly degrading earlier than it should. If not addressed promptly, we risk losing too many brain cells to reverse the damage.
There’s an ongoing epidemic of dementia and other neurological disorders. Statistically, one in nine people will develop dementia as they age. For a 45-year-old woman, the chance of developing dementia is one in five; for a 45-year-old man, it’s one in 10. Predictions indicate a 20% increase in dementia cases between 2020 and 2025.
Our world has become more toxic, with substances like mercury, aluminum, lead, the pesticide Roundup, and plastics in our food and water, all of which are detrimental to brain health and can accelerate cognitive decline. The risk has surged since the advent of COVID and COVID vaccines, as the spike protein can compromise the blood-brain barrier, allowing inflammation and infectious particles to enter the brain, and similarly affect the gut barrier.
Many have experienced persistent brain fog from COVID or long-COVID, significantly increasing the risk of developing dementia. Additionally, a history of head injuries, even mild ones, can increase one’s risk of dementia, especially for athletes in contact sports, motorcyclists, and others with repeated head traumas. Other risk factors include diabetes, a history of stroke,
hypertension, migraines, depression or other mental health issues, seizure disorders, autoimmune diseases, or insomnia. The extensive list of risk factors underscores the potential vulnerability many of us face.
However, there is a promising treatment option: MeRT (Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy) therapy. MeRT utilizes magnetic energy in a personalized manner to enhance cognitive functions, potentially restoring the clarity and speed of thought processes to levels often associated with youth. The therapy typically requires sessions five days a week, lasting 30 minutes each, for two to six weeks, depending on the individual’s needs.
If you’re interested in improving your memory, mood, reaction time, word finding, overall energy, and reducing your risk of dementia as you age, consider
scheduling a free 15-minute Discovery Call with renowned Functional Medicine Specialist Dr. Jennifer Sosnowski. Find out if you’re a good candidate for MeRT and when you can start working towards a healthier brain. Don’t delay; our brain is our most important asset. Call us now at 480-588-7787.
Does this sound like you? You’ve consulted every specialist for shoulder pain yet find yourself without solutions. Therapeutic massages have brought back the pain — sometimes aggravating it further. Chiropractic care offered only fleeting relief. Physical therapists provided you with exercises that seemed all too generic. A pain management doctor recommended nerve ablation and advised you to cease all activity, while the orthopedic surgeon dismissed you as a surgical candidate…
When shoulder pain plagues your day, seeking solace in sleep is a natural response. But what if resting in a chair becomes just as painful as lying on your side? It's time to unravel the mystery of your nocturnal shoulder pain.
Sadly, many people in search of relief from their discomfort are told by healthcare providers to "wait until it gets worse." What they may not tell you is that you can find relief now.
Take Irene’s case, for example. She had been struggling with shoulder pain for six months and sought a lasting solution, not just temporary cortisone shots, nightly sleeping pills, or ongoing pain medication.
"The worst part was not being able to sleep at night," she says. Despite three months of physical therapy, her condition barely improved. An orthopedic surgeon diagnosed her with a rotator cuff injury but advised waiting for the condition to deteriorate further before considering surgery.
We understood Irene's frustration and acted promptly. After confirming her rotator cuff tear, we discovered a second injury causing her pain.
We introduced Irene to what we call “The Gap” in conventional medicine and showed her how regenerative medicine could bridge it. After choosing to partner
with us, Irene underwent two treatments. Within four weeks, she experienced significant pain reduction and finally enjoyed a good night's sleep.
“THE GAP”
Irene’s experience is far from unique. The standard one-size-fits-all approach often leaves patients without clear guidance or resolution. You don’t need to wait for your condition to deteriorate!
Our comprehensive Deep Dive includes our pain profile, a 32-point shoulder inspection, precision shoulder scan, and diagnostic mapping technique. These tools helped confirm Irene’s source of pain and guided her personalized treatment strategy.

Three British girls set out on a holiday, anticipating the best summer of their lives filled with new experiences and unforgettable adventures.
This was one of the most upsetting experiences I've had watching a movie in quite some time. Molly Manning Walker's debut captures the intensity of what should be fun and how quickly it becomes terrifying. The big parties feel isolating, and everything that is supposed to be enjoyable ends up turning sour. Mia McKenna-Bruce's performance encapsulates the feeling of uncertainty in what should be incredible moments, allowing you to feel the terror alongside her. An astonishing work, even though it is a tough one to experience.
A group of stone-age humans find themselves hunted by a terrifying force.
Simplicity is the best descriptor for “Out of Darkness,” a film that, ironically, is a meat-and-potatoes picture under an hour and a half. Throughout the film, it toys with audience expectations and violently pushes back against them. Desperation and fear drive characters towards their own destruction, yet the film is cleverly patient with its developments. Violence is administered in small doses, making its impact and the resulting hurt felt more acutely when it occurs. By the end, your heart is racing, begging for a moment to breathe.
An outcast girl decides to create the man of her dreams, encountering some destruction along the way.
This film's reception will largely depend on the viewer's appreciation for its camp tone and style. "Lisa Frankenstein" possesses the elements of an over-the-top romantic comedy
yet fails to fully realize its potential. The direction and editing, for lack of a better term, feel lifeless, failing to align with the feverish tone and style it aims for, and rendering the film slower than intended. Additionally, its PG-13 rating constrains the film from achieving the level of zaniness it aspires to, leaving the cast to exert their utmost efforts to compensate. A disappointing venture, considering the talent and potential involved.
The embodiment of darkness assists a young boy in confronting his fears.
"Orion and the Dark" may not reach the heights of Charlie Kaufman’s most acclaimed works, including "Being John Malkovich," but it still demonstrates considerable thoughtfulness and emotional maturity, making it suitable for children. The film's appeal is
significantly bolstered by the likability of the voice cast and a well-balanced mix of humor and thematic depth. So compelling are these elements that viewers may find themselves wishing for more time with the characters beyond the film’s 90-minute duration. While the animation is commendably executed, there’s an inescapable sense that its potential is somewhat constrained by budgetary limitations. Overall, it presents a delightful treat, offering families a distinct alternative to the usual fare.

Is doing everyday things from standing up straight to nding comfortable sleeping positions and even just walking di cult because of sciatica pain? You may nd it hard to focus on enjoying those around you because you’re distracted by your pain. You may have already tried chiropractic, massage, stretching, and exercise, but the di culty is knowing which things will help and which won’t. is can be frustrating because it seems unpredictable.
Some sciatica is caused by muscular weakness and restriction, while others can be caused by sti joints. Ultimately, certain exercises may help some sciatica, but make other types worse. To best help you, I’ve compiled a list of tips that will help anyone with sciatica regardless of the type to reduce daily pain.
Most people with sciatica just want to know if there’s a solution that actually lasts. Solutions that used to work, don’t work any longer. Eventually you nd yourself in a rabbit hole, searching high and low for solutions that hopefully help you avoid surgery. One of my patients, Marian, had tried everything above on top of back surgery, unspecialized physical therapy, pain management, spinal injections, spinal electrostimulation, acupuncture, and dietary analysis. Marian told me, “When you go through this, you learn how many things you can no longer do if you can’t stand or walk.”
Sciatica is so common because many of the solutions out there just take one area into consideration.
e muscles, the joints, nerves, strength, weakness, etcetera. e simple truth is that sciatica is a complex condition with many contributing factors.
e core issue, which has been proven time and again in the best research, is that the body has developed compensation patterns in order to protect itself. ese patterns are hardwired into the brain, and will continue to persist unless they are xed.
is pattern is what CAUSES the tight muscles, and the sti joints. ese tight muscles and sti joints eventually pinch the nerve, causing sciatica. erefore, correcting the pattern is the true root cause. No matter how long you’ve su ered, you can still get your life back. No surgery. No pills.
6 Reasons Why Your Sciatica May Be Lasting Longer than it Should:
1. You tried looking up exercises to do on your own for your sciatica. But with many “causes,” it’s di cult to gure out which exercises are right for you. is is why some exercises can seem to make it better, but some make it much worse.
2. You tried a few relaxing massages and it felt good for a few days but then it came back.
3. You tried chiropractic care and it eased a bit, but the nagging sensation is still there.
4. You tried waiting for it to go away on its own. at didn’t work…
5. You went to the doctor’s o ce, and they gave you pain meds or nerve medication to numb the pain. ey told you to come back in 6 weeks if it didn’t work.
6. You went to a physical therapist who put you on the same exercises everyone else with sciatica gets…then they left you with an assistant who only half watched your technique.
Why What You’ve Tried Hasn’t Worked
If any of these things have happened to you, unfortunately it’s common. e issue with a lot of these methods is that they focus on addressing the symptoms, not the root cause of your sciatica.
Here are 3 things that can make your sciatica pain worse.
Stretching: If you’ve been stretching to x your sciatica and it hasn’t worked yet, it likely won’t. More often than not, sciatica has come up because of tight muscles. Stretching is for short muscles. Tight muscles are tight because they’re compensating for a weak muscle nearby.
Stretching will relieve them for a little bit, but it will come back unless the weakness is resolved.
Crossing Your Legs: Avoid crossing your legs at all costs. is can cause stretching in the back of your hip which compresses the sciatic nerve. It also causes twisting in your hips and pelvis which can put stress on the nerves in your back.
Resting: Certain activities right now might make your sciatica worse, but that doesn’t mean you should restrict all of your movements. If certain things are painful, like walking, lifting, sitting, it’s important to nd the root cause so you can start moving properly and stay active.
How to Fix Sciatica for the Long Term
So many of the “solutions” we try only provide temporary relief because they’re not targeting the root cause. And without getting to the source of the problem, sciatica pain will continue to return because the cause was never addressed.
Marian learned this the hard way, and unfortunately a lot of people do. After addressing the root cause, Marian says, “I’m back to walking 3-4 miles a day; I can lift and hold my grandbabies; I can go to parties without having to sit in a corner; I can go shopping again.” e only thing she’d change? Finding a specialist to help her address the root cause sooner. “I could have avoided a lot of doctors’ appointments and needless and expensive treatments, not to mention losing a couple of years to my other attempts.”
