SPOTLIGHT ON: KIWANIS CLUB

“S

erving the children of the world” is the motto of Kiwanis International, and along the Tatum Corridor, the Kiwanis Club of Desert Ridge is translating those words into action. Since being chartered in 2011, the Kiwanis Club of Desert Ridge (KCDR) has maintained a close association with the Paradise Valley Unified School District. KCDR sponsors Key Clubs (a service youth leadership program) at Horizon, Pinnacle and Shadow Mountain High Schools, providing community service and leadership opportunities to hundreds of Valley students.

17th. If you are interested in golfing, sponsoring or donating, please email KiwanisDesertRidge@ gmail.com. “I’ve heard our Club called ‘small and mighty’,” says Karin Church, President. “Sometimes I look at all the children we are helping in our community, and I’m amazed our small group is able to make such a large impact.” The Kiwanis Club of Desert Ridge is seeking new members. Information can be found at www.KiwanisDesertRidge.org or visit their Facebook page.

This past July, KCDR partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Scottsdale to host Girl Talk, a lunchand-learn introducing middle and high school aged girls to non-traditional female careers. Through its 501c-3 non-profit foundation, KCDR sponsors attendance incentive programs at Sweetwater Community School and Roadrunner School. The Foundation’s most recent community support effort is the sponsorship of the Cape Girl League, a program designed to inspire young girls in our community to dream about their future and to help make their dreams a reality. The KCDR Foundation’s annual golf tournament is Friday, November
