The culinary landscape of Phoenix just got a touch more exciting with the opening of Spitz at Desert Ridge Marketplace. Founded by two food-loving college friends from Minnesota and Utah, this distinctive eatery brings an innovative twist to traditional Mediterranean street food, offering healthier, contemporary renditions that have made it a foodie favorite across America.
Spitz, named after the classic vertical spit-roasting technique renowned for its ability to deliver flavorful, juicy proteins, first sprouted as a simple idea. The founders sought to recreate the vibrant Mediterranean tastes they’d discovered in Europe and share them with communities across the U.S. Today, their vision has materialized into a thriving brand known not only for its award-winning food, but also for its local craft beer selection, exceptional drinks, and vivacious street art.
More than a restaurant, Spitz is now a beloved part of the community. With its opening in Desert Ridge Marketplace, Spitz aims to serve not only delicious meals, but also to foster a vibrant community space

Phoenix Police Foundation

Approves Five Grants for Phoenix Police Department

Over $100,000 in funding will go towards canine units, protective shields, cadet programs, officer volunteer programs and the PAL Youth Basketball league lead by officers.

THE PHOENIX POLICE FOUNDATION, A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT ADDRESSES UNMET CAPITAL NEEDS OF THE CITY OF PHOENIX POLICE DEPARTMENT, RECENTLY APPROVED FIVE GRANTS PROVIDING OVER $100,000 IN FUNDING FOR THE PHOENIX POLICE DEPARTMENT. The grants will aim to support canine units, protective shields, cadet programs, officer volunteer programs, and the PAL Youth Basketball league lead by officers.
The Phoenix Police Canine Units will be receiving a Throwbot 2 Robot and a K9 Storm Vest ($19,519). The Throwbot 2 robot is remote controlled, allowing a preview of the environment from a protected position prior to any officer or canine entering a structure. Having knowledge of the environment and threats prior to entering a structure is difficult to achieve but allows for a much safer mission for the canines and officers. In addition, the canine units will receive K9 Storm Vests. The soft armor vest provide the K9s additional protection from pistol caliber projectiles and stabbings.
The Phoenix Police Department Downtown Operations Unit will receive two TYR Protective Ballistic Shield Kits (valued at $35,000) from the foundation. The Downtown Operations Unit (DOU) provides police coverage for the downtown Phoenix area including sporting and event venues, as well as many high-rise offices and apartment buildings. Unlike most shields, the TYR Protective Shield Kit has the capability to stand alone to provide cover and concealment without manually being held by an officer. The shield would provide DOU officers the most protection in a high-rise structure that contains long hallways or corridors.

The Phoenix Police Cadet Program provides young adults with law enforcement training, leadership skills, and experiences with an emphasis on the importance of community relationships. The program will receive $30,000 to assist with their annual expenses.
The Citizens Offering Police Support (COPS) Program will be awarded $10,000 from the Phoenix Police Foundation. The COPS program allows citizen volunteers and college interns to support the department through non-enforcement roles and assistance. The program has approximately 150 volunteers and 16 interns who contribute hundreds of volunteer hours each year. This donation will be used to purchase uniforms, safety vests, and other needs of COPS program.
Lastly, Phoenix Police Activities League (PAL) Elite Basketball Program will receive $10,000 from the Phoenix Police Foundation. The PAL Elite club provides underserved youth with positive interactions with the police while learning teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, communication, leadership skills, and responsibility through athletics. The elite high school basketball team practices weekly and participates in numerous tournaments throughout the valley. This donation will cover expenses including tournament entry fees, equipment, and uniforms.
To approve the funding for all grants, the Phoenix Police Foundation board voted on issues that impact the community and the Phoenix Police Foundation the most. Each grant will be utilized to protect officers, build stronger community relationships, and provide equipment to serve the community. For more information on the grants, visit phoenixpolicefoundation.org.

Their target? Aiding the Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children (ACFC) and the invaluable work it performs for families impacted by pediatric cancer.
Throughout the entire month of June, all Barro’s Pizza locations across Arizona will devote a portion of their proceeds, aiming to raise up to $40,000, from the sale of any lunch special to support ACFC’s mission.

D-Backs Score a Grand Slam with 100-Year-Old Hospice Patient
By Lin Sue Flood Photos courtesy of Hospice of the Valley
Growing up in the Babe Ruth era, Myra Blaker has been a lifelong baseball fan. After moving to Phoenix from Chicago, she pledged loyalty to her hometown Arizona Diamondbacks — even posting their game schedule on her front door. In the weeks leading up to their home opener at Chase Field, all she talked about was baseball.
As a surprise, Blaker’s Hospice of the Valley care team made a great play — pitching her as the inaugural guest of D-Backs Wishes for Seniors. This special program grants once-in-a-lifetime experiences to deserving seniors and is sponsored by the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and Arizona Complete Health.
“We are so honored to partner with the devoted nurses and social workers at Hospice of the Valley to deliver these incredible experiences,” says Debbie Castaldo, D-Backs’ senior VP for Corporate & Community Impact. “It was wonderful to see Myra rooting for her team. She was living her best life!”
On the night of the game, the team covered all the bases. Blaker, who turns 101 in September, got the VIP
treatment — premium parking, great seats, free food and drinks, including a beer she insisted on finishing! Hospice of the Valley nurse Kelly McGovern and social worker Renee Adams came along to monitor her oxygen and make sure Blaker had the time of her life. Paul Piperata, her caregiver at Weyrich Health Care Center in Scottsdale, also joined the fun, and kindly arranged for a seven-passenger van with wheelchair access.
As they took their seats near the on-deck circle, Blaker whispered, “Look how close we are! We can even see what they keep in their pockets!”
Blaker’s daughter, Laura, says she couldn’t remember seeing her mom so excited. “The D-Backs hit a homerun with Mom. She loved every single minute and never stopped smiling!”

About the fifth inning, McGovern started to wonder if the centenarian might want to leave early. “Not a chance,” Blaker insisted. “I won’t miss a single play!”
Just when the baseball fanatic thought nothing could top the magical evening, D-Backs legend Luis Gonzalez came by to visit. “I can’t believe they are making such a fuss over me!” she gushes.
“She will never forget this,” says Adams. “At Hospice of the Valley, we’re honored to help make our patients’ dreams come true. We are so grateful to be part of this tremendous night.”

Kids’ Corner AZ529, Arizona’s Education Savings Plan Helps Bring Dreams to Life with Creative Photo Contest

AZ529, Arizona’s Education Savings Plan and the Arizona State Treasurer’s Office are inviting kindergarten through 12th grade students across the state to take a creative photo of their future dream job for the “My PicturePerfect Career” photo contest. Summer vacation is an ideal time for families to talk with children about what they’d like to be when they grow up and explore potential career interests with trips to Arizona libraries, museums, and other local hands-on learning resources. Taking and sharing pictures while discussing job aspirations is the goal of this summer’s “My Picture-Perfect Career” Photo Contest, which is open to students through 12th grade across Arizona.
Students are encouraged to take or pose for a photo representing themselves in their dream job. They can take a selfie, pose for a picture, invite friends and family into the shot or come up with their own creative ideas. The final photo just needs to visually communicate their vision of a dream job – whether the participant is in front of or behind the camera! A total of 10 winners will be selected across the state and receive $529 towards opening a new or existing AZ529 Education Savings Plan. Winners will be selected from across Arizona’s 15 counties.
The goal of the photo contest is to increase awareness of the AZ529 Plan

and pave a path for another generation of students to achieve their post-secondary dreams through proper savings. Winners will be honored by Treasurer Kimberly Yee during a special ceremony at the state capitol in September. Be advised that by submitting photos to this contest, you acknowledge and agree that the photo may be publicly displayed.
In total, $5,290 will be distributed to 10 students to assist in saving for their educational plans beyond high school. Parents or guardians of the winners will be responsible for setting up an AZ529 account if an account does not already exist. All entries must be submitted by Sunday, July 9, at 11:59 p.m.
The AZ529 Education Savings Plan offers a tax-free approach to setting money aside for college, community college, vocational training, trade school, and other educational avenues for high school graduates. Arizona residents can receive a dollar-for-dollar state tax deduction for contributions made to an AZ529 account each year, of up to $2,000 per beneficiary or $4,000 per beneficiary depending on filing status. Funds earned over time will remain tax-free when used for a wide variety of covered educational expenses. Additionally, friends and family members may add to a child’s AZ529 Plan at any time and earn the same tax benefits for themselves.

RAISIN' THE ROOF WITH SCIENCE!

Unleash your inner scientist and make raisins dance in this fun, fizzy kitchen chemistry experiment!
Want a reason to play with your food? While adults may discourage us from doing so, food items can teach us a lot about science, especially chemistry. And it can be fun too! In this activity, you’ll learn about how vinegar and baking soda create a reaction and form carbon dioxide bubbles. When a raisin joins the (dance) party, the bubbles that are formed stick to the raisins and their many wrinkles, causing them to float to the top. When the raisins reach the top, bubbles tend to pop and release the gas which, in turn, allows the raisins to sink back down to the bottom.
Supplies
• 1 clear plastic cup
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 6 to 7 raisins
• Water
• Vinegar Challenge
• Fill you cup about halfway with water
• Add one teaspoon of baking soda and stir until dissolved in water
• Add 6 to 7 raisins into the cup
• Very slowly pour in vinegar until cup is three-fourths full
• Watch the raisins dance
What did you think would happen to the raisins? Did they surprise you? What happened? What do you think is causing the bubble to form? What type of gas is it? You can try this experiment with other small fruits–how do you think the reaction would

be different if you used grapes? Or a blueberry. What about a cherry tomato?
There are lots of different ways to learn about science in your very own home. Science is all around us, and as long as you ask and have supervision, it is great to be curious about what other experiments you can conduct. Visit azscience.org and find experiments just like this!

Going solar?
Here's what you need to know.
By Shay MoserSolar panels are a lot less expensive than they were a decade ago. But they’re still an investment and determining whether you can install a system can be daunting — something Val Berechet learned firsthand.
His journey with solar started in 2014 when he invested in a system for his home that wasn't correctly installed. While permits and inspections were delayed over eight months, he learned the ins and outs of solar installation, let go of the company installing his system, and reinstalled it himself. In 2015, Berechet put his frustrating experience into co-founding Sunsolar Solutions and has since helped more than 10,000 homeowners go solar by providing education, honest quotes, reputable installations, and transparency.
Berechet says people tend to hold a few common misconceptions about solar panels, which prevent them from making sound financial decisions.
"We help homeowners understand how solar panels work, choose a system that meets their needs, and know what to expect," says Berechet, president and CEO of Sunsolar Solutions. "Unfortunately, many companies set the wrong expectations or
sell smaller, cheaper systems while telling the homeowner it will perform like a larger system. This gives our industry a black eye."
As chairman of the Consumer Protection Committee for the AriSEIA, the Arizona chapter of the national Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), Berechet helps educate the public and key decision-makers about solar, storage technologies, electrification, and energy efficiency. The nonprofit 501(c)(6) trade organization also focuses on promoting professionalism within the industry and helping create and protect public policies that support the sector and its customers.
“A lot of new companies that come from out of state are not educated about the market, such as how SRP and APS utility companies work with solar,” says Berechet. “It's more complex here than it is in other states. There will be bad apples in every industry, but I don't think that's the issue. A lot of it is misinformation and miseducation on the sales side.”
Berechet says homeowners can also help by asking the right questions, such as “How will my utility bill be impacted after I go solar?” He stresses that technology and resources to accurately estimate the effects of solar are available today, and homeowners
should not accept vague answers when looking into solar.
Also, many solar companies don’t install the solar panels they sell, continues Berechet. Sunsolar Solutions sells and installs, providing multiple design options and sharing the total cost upfront so customers can pick the best system for their budget.
“Because we are local and hands-on, we walk the customer through the entire process and handle every aspect of installation,” Berechet says. “Our customers know what to expect because we ensure our sales reps are properly educated and explain it well.”
Some of the frequent expectations Sunsolar Solutions customers have, says Berechet, include grid reliance, energy output, roof impact, weather and climate requirements, the lifespan of solar panels, and the return on investment.
While the answers can be complicated, Sunsolar Solutions helps customers understand everything from the get-go — from how many solar panels are needed to meet energy usage to factors about the roof, such as age and tree cover.
“One of the important things in our process is to

get the correct information from the homeowner,” Berechet explains. “We need to see customers’ electric bills or at least get the last 12 months of electric usage because solar systems are built around how much power a house uses.”
Once Sunsolar Solutions understands a customer’s home’s energy usage, it puts together a detailed quote, including incentives.

Berechet says there are federal and state tax incentives to offset the upfront costs, which Sunsolar Solutions’ energy consultants ensure customers don’t miss if they qualify. For instance, the Federal Solar Tax Credit allows eligible homeowners to reduce the taxes they owe by up to 30% of their solar panel installation cost from their federal income taxes. If the homeowner already paid their taxes through their employer’s W2 withholding, they’ll receive a check back from the IRS. Consider state incentives, too, like in the Valley, which provides a 25% tax credit, up to $1,000, for purchased systems.
After Sunsolar Solutions does a site survey, it puts together an engineering plan, gets permits from the city or county, and seeks approval from the utility company. Then it’s time for the system to be installed.
“We're big on installing things the right way, using the right equipment and installation methods,” Berechet says. “We even have an internal quality control specialist that checks the system post-install.”
If Sunsolar Systems’ quality control specialist approves the installation, the city is called to do its inspection. If everything looks good, Berechet says they file a few remaining documents with the utility company, and then, after that, the system gets turned on.
“It depends where you live; if you live in a city where the permitting process is quicker, installation can be completed within a matter of weeks, and the entire process is done within two months,” Berechet says.
Throughout the entire project, Sunsolar Solutions customers have a dedicated project specialist as their point of contact who answers questions and keeps them updated about the timeline.

Valley residents looking into solar can soon make the Consumer Protection Committee of the AriSEIA their point of contact. One of its significant initiatives, says Berechet, is ensuring consumers are educated so they can protect themselves by asking the right questions about it. Also, the committee is assembling a preferred installer program with local utility companies, much like the one SRP offers, which Sunsolar Solutions is a part of.
“If a solar customer doesn't have a good experience, they often call the utility company and complain about it,” explains Berechet. “So, our interests are aligned, and we need to make sure homeowners understand solar and have the right expectations.”

Pocha 54

New Korean tapas pub ignites Phoenix’s culinary scene with a blend of traditional flavors and modern aesthetics.

Pocha 54, a newly minted Korean-style pub on High Street marks an innovative and much-needed twist in the city’s culinary scene. Set in High Street, located in the lively southwest corner of the Loop 101 and 56th Street , Pocha 54 adds Korean flavor to Phoenix’s robust gastronomic tableau.
Taking over the space of the former Patio 54, the establishment channels a hip, sociable ambiance — a nod to South Korea’s passionate late-night drinking culture. The establishment’s charm lies not just in its atmospheric allure, but also in its daring culinary offerings.
With a menu boasting more than 30 shareable anju (Korean small plates), Pocha 54 satisfies a spectrum of palates. The Korean-spiced edamame, a flavorful appetizer priced at $5.54, primes your palate for the gastronomic journey ahead. The gochujang Brussels sprouts, kimchi fried rice, and crispy mayo shrimp are not just a testament to the flavors of Korea but also a challenge to your culinary curiosity.
For a more communal dining experience, opt for one of the four hot pot varieties. These simmering pots of richly flavored broth packed with choice ingredients promise an authentic Korean dining experience.
The drinks menu is equally impressive, presenting a range of soju and sake. Korean-brewed beers, such as the unpasteurized pilsner Cass and Terra, a lager brewed with Australian barley, underscore the authenticity of Pocha 54. Their signature Pocha margarita offers a delightful fusion spin.

Patrons also laud the restaurant’s service. The staff’s cordiality and their insightful walk-through of the menu enhance the overall dining experience. A customer review describes their experience during the soft opening on April 27, applauding the restaurant’s vibe, its music selection, and even its Instagram-ready aesthetics.
Customer favorites include the Korean taco with bulgogi, the texturally appealing sotteok kochi, and the kid-approved Spam musubi. The front door’s modern design, coupled with K-pop music, creates a dynamic, energetic atmosphere, standing out in stark contrast to the more subdued establishments nearby.
Open from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday (closed Mondays), Pocha 54 is a High Street high note, lending an eclectic, vibrant culinary addition to the area’s gastronomic landscape. BEAT THE HEAT: The Unexpected Advantage of Selling Your Home in the Summer
By Holly Henbest, RealtorAre you thinking about selling your home this summer? Although summer is typically a slower selling season, with our limited inventory of homes for sale, this could be a great time to sell your home since you won’t have much competition.
Currently, Maricopa County has an average of 1.6 months of inventory of available homes for sale. A balanced market would have closer to three to four months of inventory available, and a buyer’s market would have six or more months of available inventory.

Inventory months are calculated based on how many homes sell on average per month and then equating that to the homes available for sale. So, some neighborhoods will have varying
inventory data, but overall, for Maricopa County we remain in a seller’s market.
A lot of people assume the summer months are the busiest months for buying and selling. With kids out of school you’d think it would be a popular time, but most local buyers tend to prefer moving when our temperatures are below 100 degrees, which makes our real estate market “hottest” in the spring and fall.
When our temperatures climb, people aren’t as excited about packing and moving and are more focused on summer vacations, so our summer months tend to have a bit of a slowdown of homes being listed for sale. There are still buyers, but just lesser overall activity. Our market is a big second home, retirement home market and those buyers also tend to prefer the fall to spring season to move.
During the summer months, homeowners often focus on doing things to ensure energy efficiency, but if your home is listed for sale in the summer, you want to be the “cool” house, so energy efficiency becomes a low priority. Instead, you want to focus on ensuring the potential buyers have a great experience in your home. Here are some tips if you’re planning to have your home listed for sale in the summer.
1. AIR CONDITIONING
You will want buyers to linger in your home so turn down the temperature and give them a feeling of relief when they walk in the door. If the home is too warm, they’ll be thinking more about getting back into an air-conditioned car, than really checking out the house.
2. WINDOW COVERINGS
You may be tempted to close all the window coverings for better energy efficiency, but buyers love the feeling of a bright home with natural light, so leave all the window coverings open.
3. SUNSCREENS
These are also great for energy efficiency, but you’ll want to remove them. Although a great upgrade, they tend to make homes look dark and dingy and, again, buyers love natural light and bright homes are more inviting.
4. CLEANLINESS
We tend to gather more dust during the summer, so it’s a good idea to not only clean the inside, but also the outside. A good power wash of your home to clear it of dust and debris is recommended in addition to the windows.
5. WATER
We often recommend leaving a note and a few bottles of cold water in the refrigerator and let them know they can take one to enjoy. Buyers are guests in your home, so adding this special touch will make them have more positive feelings while they’re in your home and also spend more time to fully check-out the house.
6. EXTERIOR PLANTS
Ensure you are watering your yard and exterior plants enough to keep them looking healthy and lush. You don’t want to diminish your curb appeal with thirsty and sad looking plants.
Selling your home in the summer can create a bit more expense with lowering the AC and keeping your home open and bright, but the added investment in showcasing your home will surely create a great return on investment.

The Life Estate in Estate Planning

Often, a client asks me if we can give a life estate in a home to a beneficiary. The client wants to allow a loved one to occupy the home they are living in, even after the client passes away. The intent is to provide a home for their loved one without giving them complete ownership of the home.
A life estate is what it says: ownership of a property for the entire life of the beneficiary, even if they no longer can or want to live in the home. The life estate may not be what the client really wants. An alternative we offer is the right to occupy the home while the home is held in an Occupancy Trust.
The Occupancy Trust allows the client to tailor the terms according to their wishes. The Trust contains the terms that govern the loved one’s right to occupy the house. It might provide that the occupant must pay for all maintenance, utilities, taxes, insurance, and other expenses of the home while the occupant lives there, or the trust may include money for payment of all those expenses.
The Occupancy Trust can provide for how long the occupant may stay in the home. It can include a fixed length of time or allow the occupant to stay until they pass or can no longer live in the home. A right of occupancy is similar to a life estate, but the occupant cannot sell or transfer their interest in the property

like a life estate beneficiary can, and the rights of the beneficiary can before their death.

HERE ARE TWO EXAMPLES OF SITUATIONS USING THE OCCUPANCY TRUST FOR PLANNING:
John has a home in Phoenix, where his special needs brother Andy lives with him. John wants to provide a place for Andy for as long as Andy is able to live independently. John’s revocable trust states that on his passing, the house and a certain sum of money will be held in an Occupancy Trust for Andy. Upon Andy’s passing, or when he is no longer able to live there, the home is to be sold and the proceeds distributed to John’s two children.
Joan owns a home where she lives with her second husband. Joan wants her husband to have time to decide his next steps if she passes first. Her trust provides for an occupancy trust for her current husband, allowing him two years to live there. Upon her husband vacating the property it will be sold, and the proceeds distributed to named beneficiaries.
The Occupancy Trust can provide great flexibility for you if you are concerned about providing for a spouse or other loved one who is living with you. If you have a situation that might merit this planning, we can work through the terms of a plan that will fit you and your loved one perfectly. Arizona Commission for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing Offer Resources, Support for Seniors with Hearing Loss
By Sherri CollinsMost of us know someone who has hearing loss. Some of you may be experiencing hearing loss yourself. Oftentimes people dismiss signs of hearing loss as “no big deal.” In reality, hearing loss is a very big deal. Hearing loss can impact all the areas of your life, including relationships, health, and safety. It can also be linked to depression and memory loss, an early indicator of dementia.
While the likelihood of developing dementia exists, there are ways to prevent hearing loss:

• Protect your ears. Keep music or TV volumes low, especially when you are wearing headphones. If you have headphones on and someone else can hear your music, the volume is too high.
• Don’t ignore your hearing loss. If you are experiencing any symptoms of hearing loss, see a hearing healthcare professional right away to start combating the symptoms.
• Tackle the hearing loss head on. Don’t assume hearing loss will go away on its own. It won’t. The sooner you get assistance with your hearing loss, the more likely you are to possibly prevent early dementia.
• Utilize technology. If you have a hearing aid, wear it as much as possible. You can also consider other hearing interventions including cochlear implants, assistive listening devices, amplified telephones, or captioning.
ACCESS TO RESOURCES
As you begin to age, access to valuable resources is critically
important. However, an Arizona Commission for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing (ACDHH) survey found that older adults report that they are concerned with where to find these resources. Survey respondents indicated that they need information on general health and wellness as well as information on memory loss and dementia, pharmacy benefits, and access to mental health services. Other important resources mentioned included assistance with maintaining their independence, access to caregivers fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), and access to attorneys and estate planners.
As such, ACDHH is launching its Age of Access initiative designed to be a one-stop destination for resources, information, and programming for Arizona’s older adults who are deaf or experiencing hearing loss. An online survey is in the field right now to gain additional information regarding the needs of the community and how best to provide access to these resources. Take it here: https://bit.ly/acdhhsenior.
Respondents that participated in preliminary research conducted by Gallaudet University indicated that there is a lack of access to home health care aides (caregivers) that can sign or have awareness about deaf people’s needs. Therefore, in the fall of 2023, ACDHH, in partnership with the university, will conduct focus groups on this as well.

Entertainment Movie Reviews and Upcoming Release Dates
By Tony Beal IN THEATERS“Evil Dead Rise”
A small family is trapped in their apartment building when a demonic force is unleashed with the ability to possess.
While the “Evil Dead” series may not be a regular topic of conversation among the general public, its deep roots in the horror genre and accessibility for newcomers make it truly special. “Rise” continues this legacy, embracing the more serious tone of the original film and the 2013 iteration, while maintaining the distinctive excess of content and action that sets the series apart. This is a hard-hitting piece that conveys the pain and terror of its characters in a way that will make you cringe. Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan deliver stunning performances as sisters, with Sutherland’s compelling portrayal of a possessed character and Sullivan’s heroic essence reminiscent of Ash and Mia, while also bringing motherhood themes into focus. The film keeps you on the edge of your seat, holding nothing back, which is a major plus. It stands as a worthy addition to one of the greatest horror series of all time.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”

The Guardians must face their greatest enemy yet to save one of their own.
James Gunn is a constant reminder of the creative possibilities inherent in the comic book film genre. Despite certain shortcomings, the third installment of his Guardians saga is among his most compelling work to date. Gunn escalates the level of intense action and mature content in a way that complements the overall narrative and tone, while still harmonizing with the previous films. It’s the empathetic core of the story that keeps us invested, as the cast subtly conveys their characters’ growth through nuanced changes in their movements and vocal inflections. Importantly, the film remains clear about its identity and effectively concludes the overarching themes of the trilogy. It’s a truly remarkable piece.
“Hypnotic”
A detective uncovers a supernatural element in the search for his daughter.
“Hypnotic” is a film that, despite having ample talent both on-screen and behind the scenes, struggles to achieve its ultimate, yet confused, objective. Director Robert Rodriguez, known for infusing style and charisma into his low-budget projects, seems to fall short here, with the film’s low-cost aesthetic lacking the charm of his previous works. The cast, including

usually impressive actors like Ben Affleck and Alice Braga, appear disengaged or unenthusiastic about the story, though William Fitchner gives a notably overthe-top performance. The film aims for complexity in its structure but ends up being more incoherent and confusing, and its attempts to draw parallels with filmmaking feel underdeveloped. There’s a glimmer of an intriguing concept in the third act, but it’s undermined by a hurried conclusion. Overall, it’s an unfortunate squandering of potential and talent.
satisfy both hardcore fans and casual viewers, even though the ending may leave some yearning for more.

Dom and his family’s past actions come back to haunt them, with a new foe hellbent on revenge.
By now, fans know what to expect from the “Fast & Furious” franchise, and “Fast X” delivers the anticipated thrills, albeit in a somewhat overstuffed package. The consistently strong performers (Diesel, Rodriguez, Kang) maintain their high standards, while others (Ludacris, Gibson) have yet to master their craft, even after two decades. The film’s abrupt shifts between narratives, some of which appear only briefly before a lengthy absence, may disrupt its flow. Nevertheless, the film’s charisma and action sequences help propel it forward. In terms of the latter, Louis Leterrier masterfully orchestrates some of the series’ most audacious stunts, managing to balance fight scenes, varied vehicle chases, and shootouts to prevent repetition during the film’s extensive run time of nearly two and a half hours. The editing truly shines in these moments, producing a solid action film that should
