The Center for the Rights of Abused Children
Every year, 675,000 children are abused in America. 117,000 are waiting to be adopted. 22,000 age out of the system. Making matters worse, their lives are often in jeopardy in the one place where safety should be guaranteed: the American courtroom. Criminals who abuse and traffic children have more rights under the law than their child victims. We are fixing this.
Our mission is to protect children, change laws and inspire people - to ensure every abused child has a bright future. WThe Center for the Rights of Abused Children fights for better futures for America’s abandoned and abused children with a pro bono Children’s Law Clinic, common-sense reforms, and public interest litigation.
Our pro bono Children’s Law Clinic is a lifeline for young children as well as young adults who have aged out of foster care and face adulthood alone. Direct services include:
• Helping arrange evaluations for, and access to, special education services.
• Assisting older youth reconstruct educational records to ensure they receive all earned credits and to get on track toward graduation or successful independent living.
• Obtaining copies of their birth certificates or social security documentation to open doors to scholarships, free tuition, and other education programs and benefits available to children who have been in foster care.
Every day, we fight to protect the abandoned, improve education, prevent aging out, make foster care safe, stable and temporary, enforce constitutional rights, bring transparency and limits to state action and ensure every child has a safe and loving home.
