What is a Master Study Board?

Bridging the gap

The goal of EFR is to bridge the gap between theory and practice. We try to do this by offering all students of Erasmus School of Economics everything they might not get in their regular classroom, ranging from free summaries to large recruitment events. As you start your master, this becomes more relevant than ever, and you and your fellow students will want to orientatie yourself more in-depth in the direction of your choosing.

Who and what?

A Master Study Board is a group of students from a specific master that is enthusiastic about organising events for their fellow classmates. Through a variety of social, educational and career- related events, EFR would like to offer the students of your master everything they need to have a fun year and to prepare them for their careers.

Responsibilities

Master Study Boards get more autonomy and responsibilities than a regular committee. EFR will be your base, offering you a well-known name and a large professional network to start off

your year. Still, it is up to you what activities you want to organise!

This is the perfect way for you to find out more about these companies and make your first connections.

Secondly, EFR takes its role as a learning institute very seriously. We actively encourage you to be pro-active and take the initiative. Besides, through the EFR Academy, EFR supports its members by providing workshops and trainings. Thirdly, as an organisation, EFR has a lot of experience with organising events. The EFR board can help you with most difficulties you might encounter along the way. Besides, there is a large network of EFR alumni to contact for specific and more complicated issues, for a fu

Personal development

Learning to handle stress, providing effective feedback, receiving criticism and making decisions around tight schedules are important skills that are not easily picked up during lectures. You might have had a time management class or read something about giving feedback, but it is only after you have put it into practice that you begin to understand the fine nuances of these soft skills.

Social interaction

EFR organises many social activities each year. When you join a Master Study Board, you become part of our active committee member network. This gives you the opportunity to participate in almost all of our events! From our own introduction weekends, committee members prom, parties, committee members weekend, our monthly social drink and other get-togethers, there is always something going on. Being active at EFR gives you the opportunity to expand your social network.

A few years ago the study association for Behavioural Economics, SABER, merged with EFR to form the master study board for Behavioural Economics: EFRxSABER. Last year the board organised a pizza & networking event and a “farewell bias” walking dinner.

Strategy Economics

Last year, the board organised a thesis retreat, where students had the opportunity to work on their thesis and relax together afterwards. They also organised a padel tournament and a drink where students could meet alumni.

International Economics and Policy Economics

In previous years, the board has for example organised a career event in cooperation with the European Union and a thesis panel. Last year, they organised a guest lecture with The Netherlands Institute for Human Rights. and a fun pool night.

Urban, Port and Transport Economics

Last year the board organised a city trip to Hamburg. During the trip, the students, among other things, explored the city of Hamburg and met the CEO of HapagLloyd at their head quarters. They also organised a few social drinks and two guest lectures. In a previous year, the UPT master study board organised an inhouse day at CEVA Logistics.

Master Study Boards

Economics of Sustainability

This is a relatively new master at Erasmus School of Economics. Hence, this will be the second year that EFR will have a master study board for Economics of Sustainability. This gives you even more freedom to come up with your own events and be creative! There are a lot of interesting events that could be linked to this master. Think of guest lectures, panels and in-house days. Last year, they hosted a guest lecture about the circular economy.

Each Master Study Board, consisting of several master students, organises various events that help students develop themselves, orientate on different sectors and network. Such events can be in-house days, study trips or social drinks. If you have new ideas and think your fellow master students need certain events, you have the freedom to organise them. In other words, you will have the opportunity to set up brand-new events on your own initiative.
