ST TERESA’S Bulletin Issue 5

Summer Term

22nd May 2026

Dear Parents, In this last week before the half term break, we saw Year 6 depart early Monday morning for their residential to the Chateau de Broutel, near Rue in Northern France. Year 5 held down the fort as last year group standing in the Prep School for the week. They worked hard on their Allotments topic, including completing their four week programme of ‘Adopt-a-Chef’ with Harry and Lou from our very own Harrison’s Catering. Year 5 also represented the Prep School very well in District athletics on Monday, while our U10 tennis players played matches at home. Then on Tuesday they played a cricket match against Halstead St Andrew. Meanwhile, Year 6 (as you will see later in the bulletin) were playing volleyball and pétanque; touring a chocolate factory including tasting; completing a low ropes course, an obstacle course, a blindfold trail, a bivouacking lesson (vital as it was pouring down with rain!); they competed in Chateau Olympics; and sang songs and toasted marshmallows around the campfire. The girls were encouraged to practise their French at every turn with their Chateau reps, kitchen staff, in the chocolate factory, purchasing goods in Le Touquet’s street market and many other places. For the third time this year, I am reminded of the privilege a good all round education provides our pupils. A chance to really embrace life and learning. The team at the Chateau, led by our reps Rodrigo and Marco, said it best on the first evening: the whole week was about our comfort zones; about moving out of the comfort zone into the learning zone by challenging ourselves with the choices of activity provided throughout the week. It was truly moving to hear the girls’ answers to the final reflection questions around the campfire. Answers to: “I am grateful this week for…”, “I have challenged myself to…” and finally, our ‘shout outs’ to people around us who helped us, supported us, encouraged us throughout the week. Some of the answers required a tissue box – you have excellent daughters! And so dear Prep families and friends, have an amazingly sunny week together over the half term break and we will meet again afterwards for the final 5 weeks of the year! Best wishes, Gareth Tindall
