by Randy Pausch is my favorite, but mindless reading is a great escape as well.

What types of music do you listen to? Country, classic rock, Christian music… anything except rap, really… and the louder the better.

Favorite movie? Shawshank Redemption Favorite TV show? I very rarely watch TV. I’m embarrassed to admit that occasionally I will get hooked on a Bachelor series.

Favorite ways of getting away from it all? We spend most all of our free time at our hunting property down south. It’s just far enough from home, and there we have no cable or cell reception. It’s so peaceful and serene.

I also enjoy writing and running, although not at the same time.

Who has served as your inspiration or role model? My children are my biggest source of inspiration and motivation. I also take immeasurable strength from the dear friends who I’ve come to love and lose to cancer.

What qualities do you feel are most important in a leadership role? First and foremost…fearlessness. Next, you must have a genuine passion for your mission. If people can see that

your passion is real, they will WANT to follow you. Also important is determination… refusal to take no for an answer. (Some refer to this as stubbornness.) Lastly- persistence, persistence, persistence!

What impression do you hope to leave on those who come into contact with you? I would hope to be known as someone who made a positive impact on the world, and someone who took initiative to make a difference. I also want to serve as a reminder that we should all appreciate what we have, and that every moment is a huge blessing.

What elements are needed in a community to make it a place people will want to call home? I am so proud of our community, and our ability to rally around one another in our times of need. The generosity of our community blows me away.

The way we pull together in the face of tragedy is second to none. A sense of safety, a sense of pride in one’s community, and excellent schools are all very important as well.

What responsibility do you feel residents have to the community they live and work in? The willingness to pitch in and give of ourselves in whatever capacity we can. For all of us, that gift is unique, but we ALL have something to offer. It is easy to criticize, but more effective to actually do something about it.

What is your definition of success?

For me personally, it’s the knowledge that I’ve made the most of every hour, and every day. Living with no regrets, and instilling the same values in my children.

What advice would you give today’s youth? My absolute biggest regret is not having completed college. You don’t get a redo on elementary school, or high school. You won’t ever regret working too hard and busting your tail in school, but you WILL regret not busting your tail when you were capable of so much more. You get one

Who has served as your inspiration or role model?

Amy: My Grandma Millie Braun taught me to always be honest, have good morals, always taught us to be kind to others and take care of yourself. Grandma still goes to the gym every day at 90 plus years of age.

Matt: My stepfather, David Crackel has taught me that no matter the situation it will all work out fine in the end.

He has always been there for us kids thru all the baseball games, tumbling meets, doctor visits, and late night calls. He has played a major part in my life and kids’ lives even after the passing of our mother in 1999. I owe him more than I could ever repay!

What qualities do you feel are most imporant in a leadership role? Matt and Amy: You must have good morals and a drive to succeed!

What impression do you hope to leave on those who come into contact with you?

Matt and Amy: That we work hard and are pleasant to those around us.

What elements are needed in a community to make it a place people will want to call home? Matt and Amy: A great community spirit that lets people know we offer a safe, friendly community with lots of opportunities.

What responsibility do you feel residents have to the

community they live and work in? Matt and Amy: We have a responsibility to help each other grow, keep an open mind, and accept change when it comes.

What is your definition of success? Matt and Amy: Knowing you helped grow your community in a positive way and made things better for others.

What advice would you give today’s youth? Matt and Amy: Never be afraid to fail. Work hard and never give up on a dream.

What is the most important ingredient in achieving a happy life? Matt: Make time for yourself and don’t let stuff consume you that’s negative.

Amy: Knowing how to balance work and family.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? Matt: Patience...

Matt and Amy: We have created 3 successful businesses and one large retail plaza in the last 20 years together starting first with Amy’s Power Tumbling and Dance in 1996. Then we built the Rickelman Plaza in 2005. We then founded and started Get-Fit Family Fitness in 2006. Our last business we created was Dammerman and Associates Benchmark Realty which we still own and operate today.

Clubs/Organizations you are involved in: I currently serve on the Blessings in a Backpack Executive Board. I am a member of Christ’s Church, the Effingham Flame Softball Board, a Meals on Wheels volunteer, and a classroom and clothes closet volunteer at Central Grade School.

Education: I graduated from Effingham High School in 1997 and Lake Land College in 2000.

What do you like to read?

My home library includes my Bible, The Story, books by Meg

Meeker and John Grisham, and I love to read books that come to life in movies. Since finally getting a library card a few months ago, I have been reading more than I ever have before.

What types of music do you listen to: I love all types of music, but I mostly listen to Christian. My favorites are Matthew West and Newsboys.

I am so excited to have tickets for the Newboys at the Effingham Performance Center in March!

Favorite movie: I am pretty eclectic when it comes to movies. I love the recent movie God’s Not Dead. Of course, I’ve also been known to watch Christmas Vacation year around!

Favorite TV Show: I really don’t watch television. But typically, SportsCenter or a game is on in our house.

Who has served as your inspiration or role model?

There have been many people throughout my life who have inspired me, including my parents, who made a great life from humble beginnings, great friends who inspire me with their faith, hope, strength and imagination, and this community that is always willing to step up and help out when it’s needed.

What qualities do you feel are most important in a leadership role? I feel the most important qualities of a leader include an open mind, open communication, a commitment to the goals, the ability to delegate and the ability to inspire.

What impression do you hope to leave on those who come into contact with you? I hope people will see that I like to get things done. I want to know my task and get to work.

I hope they see me as a person who enjoys being around other people, walks by faith and puts my family first.

What elements are needed in a community to make it a place people will want to call home? I believe key elements of a community start with a strong educational foundation and a strong sense of community pride. There needs to

be opportunities for youth to succeed both in school and in life, growth in our local economy, recreation and family activities, and organizations, businesses and volunteers willing to help make these things possible.

What responsibility do you feel residents have to the community they live and work in? It is the responsibility of all residents to be informed and involved. I am always saddened to see, especially when played out in social media, how people can be so quick to criticize their community, whether it be the schools, organizations or local government. Instead, people need to get involved, especially when there’s a change they want to see. I also believe it is important to support local small businesses to keep the community’s economy strong and vital.

What is your definition of success? My definition of success includes finding one’s passion and living it out. That may be one thing or it may be many. And it may change depending on the time in one’s life. But if you can do something to make someone else’s life better, you will surely have success. There is also success in the failures and mistakes that help us to learn, grow and move forward.

What advice would you give today’s youth? There are so many answers I could give

as I reflect on the days of my own youth. To them I would say that some decisions they make now can have a lifelong impact, so choose wisely. Have high hopes and high standards. I recently read a quote from Theodore Roosevelt that “Comparison is the thief of joy”. So I would also say, be proud of who you are. Offer grace and show love. And make amends, with others and yourself.

What is the most important ingredient in achieving a happy life? The most important ingredient in a happy life?

Peace. Peace with who you are, where you are and decisions you’ve made. Of course, as my husband would say, happy wife = happy life.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I used to think about all the things I wished I could change about myself, until I realized that all these things got me to where and who I am today. That’s not to say there’s still nothing I would change, but rather to say that I am content to be me.

Your greatest achievement in life thus far? My greatest achievement in life is being a wife to Josh and mom to Aiden and Courtney. Supporting my husband and raising our two children is a responsibility that I take great pride in. Secondly, I am honored to be a part of the Blessings in a Backpack organization in our community. The program is beginning it’s second year and has more than doubled the amount of children we serve from when we started a little over one year ago, and with the help of the community will continue to grow that number.

The Blessings committee is comprised of people with a single goal, to feed the future of Effingham.

My grandfather (Dan Hecht Sr.) and the way he proved how to start a business from nothing and turn it into a thriving business, and my father (Dan Hecht Jr.) for teaching me to always treat people the way you would like to be treated.

What qualities do you feel are most important in a leadership role?

Understanding and communication, because even the smallest job can get ruined without proper communication.

What impression do you hope to leave on those who come into contact with you?

What responsibility do you feel residents have to the community they live and work in? To me the community has a responsibility to find a job they enjoy so they do not hate going to work,and can enjoy their job. Happy employees make for a much happier work

environment for everybody, therefore making the company run much smoother. They should also try to stay within the community for goods and labor needed so the money stays local and helps support all the good that our community does offer.

What is your definition of success? Happiness, however you define it. You only have one life to live and you might as well make the most of it.

What advice would you give today’s youth? Think about what you really enjoy doing and try to figure out how to make that your job. If you enjoy your job then it is much easier to go to work and put your full potential into it.

What is the most important ingredient in achieving a happy life? Family and Religion. Once in a while you need someone to lean on and they are always there when you need that.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? That I never finished college!!!

Your greatest achievement in life thus far? My wife and kids are my greatest achievements so far. I don’t know where I would be without them.

What impression do you hope to leave on those who come into contact with you?

That I live a life showing that I love God and love others above myself.

News, Illini sports commentary and analysis, and the Bible What types of music do you listen to? I‘ll listen to anything. I love music in general and even can play several instruments. Oddly enough, with all the noise of hectic life, often times, in the car, I prefer to go without

the radio at all. So, when the radio in my car broke a few months ago, I haven’t bothered to fix it.

Favorite movie? Nothing really stands out to me, but I prefer comedies most.

Favorite TV show? Illini basketball and football when I get the chance. In general, I don’t seem to have time to watch much TV. Favorite ways of getting away from it all? Working on projects around the house.

What elements are needed in a community to make it a place people will want to call home? There are a lot of elements needed, as basic as a feeling of safety. You can have unlimited amusement and endless beautiful scenery, but I think it’s the people that make a community a good place to live. What makes it a good community are family, friends, and good neighbors.

What responsibility do you feel residents have to the community they live and work in? One responsibility we should have is to watch out for one another and to help each other out in tough times.

What is your definition of success? Continual pursuit of your “sweet spot” and purpose in life. I tend to agree with Winston Churchill who said, “Success is not final, Failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

What advice would you give today’s youth? Have a vision for your life and work hard to achieve your purpose. At the same time, you only live today once, so don’t waste it. Enjoy the journey. No matter who you are, there will always be less time than money.

What is the most important ingredient in achieving a happy life? Serve others, and live selflessly. Remember that in the end, its people, not things that matter most.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I’m always working on listening more and talking less.

Your greatest achievement in life thus far? I have been truly blessed in my lifetime. If I had to pick an accolade, what first comes to mind is that my peers in Illinois selected me as “Young Optometrist of the Year” for 2013.

Who has served as your inspiration or role model?

My parents and grandparents inspire me; they’re wonderful people. They taught by example that it’s important to step forward to help a neighbor, a friend, a stranger.

They have great work ethics.

They’re supportive, even if it’s a decision they wouldn’t make. My grandmother, Mary Weber, teaches the importance of showing love and compassion. She makes her children and grandchildren feel like the center of the universe when they’re with her. She’s an active listener and engages completely in conversation. My grandfather, Oliver Emmerich, shows us that when times are tough, you don’t wallow, you push through. He grew up in the depression era, served in World War II, came home to raise eight children and is an amazing story teller.

What qualities do you feel are most important in a leadership role? An open mind. While I think my ideas are terrific, it’s important to listen to others, to research, and to be humble enough to admit when there is a better idea, or a better method. A great leader is able to weigh his or her ideas against others and lay ego aside to achieve the best possible outcome.

What impression do you hope to leave on those who come into contact with you? I hope they walk away knowing that I am a sincerely caring person. Our positive interactions have a ripple effect – one act of kindness can radiate and impact many.

What elements are needed in a community to make it a place people will want to call home? Good leadership, strong churches, well-equipped schools with terrific teachers, clean parks and plenty of places to get ice cream.

What responsibility do you feel residents have to the community they live and work in? We have the right to go to work, come home, and never interact with our community…but what a boring way to live! I think finding a group, a cause, a purpose to volunteer within makes life so much better. We have a limited amount of time on this earth. It’s our responsibility to make the most of it.

What is your definition of success? My definition of success is finding JOY in today. God gave me this day to enjoy, to be better than I was yesterday, to reach out to my neighbor, to breathe deeply and give thanks. If I don’t choose to be joyful, in hard times, through disappointments, I have only myself to blame. My very wise friends, Roy and Teresa Rogers, have taught me so much about choosing to find joy, even in difficult circumstances.

What advice would you give today’s youth? Get involved! Don’t expect to complain and affect change.

One of my favorite quotes is from Ghandi, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” Want a kinder school? Be kinder. Wish your parents/school/part-time job recycled? Start recycling. Be active in your community. You are not too young to make a difference.

What is the most important ingredient in achieving a happy life? Faith If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I’d love to be taller! I’m 5’1” and it seems like grocery stores punish the vertically-challenged.

Your greatest achievement in life thus far? Being an aunt. I adore my nephew, Gus, and my nieces, Mallory, Ava, Morgan, Breanna and Makenzie. I moved here to live closer to them. They bring out the best in me with their sweet, innocent questions, their joy in learning something new, their (sometimes brutal) honesty, the excitement with which they greet the day. They motivate me to try harder, to be better and to work to make the world a better place. In them I can see characteristics of my brothers and sisters, my mom, dad, and me. They are the best parts of each of us, and they are my favorite people in the world.

What elements are needed in a community to make it a place people will want to call home? Strong community leaders, businesses, and anchor institutions that are able to adapt and change quickly, but smartly, to address the changing needs of an evolving community.

Your greatest achievement in life thus far? I’m very proud of the work that I’ve been able to be a part of at the Helen Matthes Library. I work with a great team of staff and board members that aren’t afraid to try new things, face challenges, and always try to improve the experience of our patrons and guests. We are on the cusp of securing our biggest achievement to date—completing our building project—and I can’t wait for all of us to be able to add that to the top of our list of greatest achievements!

What responsibility do you feel residents have to the community they live and work in? I believe that we have the responsibility to support our local businesses and institutions with our dollars and time as well as to be honest when an experience either exceeds or falls short of expectations.

What is your definition of success? Doing your best every day and trying to improve on your past performance.

Jennifer Vahling decisions I have made and provided me with the foundation needed to become the person I am today. I have a wonderful group of friends that support me but aren’t afraid to tell me when I am going “off course”. And I also have a great boss who continues to be a mentor to me and is always helping me continually grow as a professional.

I really like the quote by Tom Peters that states “Leaders don’t create followers they create more leaders.” I think having the ability to see something in another person and develop them is one of the most important qualities you can possess when you are in a leadership role.

I think innovation in finding ways to sustain local business and education is also an important element to any community.

the community they live and work in? We live in a great community that has a lot to offer. I find myself continually impressed by the vision and commitment to success within Effingham County. I have always felt that it is important for me to not only be a member of this community but a contributor to it. I want to contribute to its growth, success, and future. There are many different organizations and initiatives within Effingham County and I would encourage residents to become involved or volunteer in areas they find passion in. I think the community and residents already do a great job when it comes to supporting local initiatives and as long as residents continue to be involved I believe Effingham County will continue to flourish.

What is your definition of success? Success is deciding what you like to do and then determining how to be successful doing it.

What advice would you give today’s youth? Don’t be afraid to make mistakes – This is so much easier said than done but we can’t make anything valuable without making mistakes. Not a relationship, not a career -- not a life. You are never going to have it “all figured out”. I still don’t have it all figured out, but I keep at it. The mistakes are what help you to learn and grow.

What is the most important ingredient in achieving a happy life? The ability to have fun and laugh, even if it is at your own expense sometimes.

If you could change one

thing about yourself, what would it be? I need to slow down sometimes – I want to be able to help or participate in everything but I can overbook myself and then I don’t have time to really enjoy what it is that I have planned or accomplished because I am too busy thinking about the next item on my list.

Your greatest achievement in life thus far? I was able to purchase my first home 2 years ago and that is something I am proud of but this award ranks pretty high on the list!

According to Webster dictionary, a community is described as this, “Common possession or enjoyment; participation; as, a community of goods.” I think the elements are just this, commonalities and enjoyment in them. If everyone was to work together toward a common goal for the betterment of our community, we’d see so much improvement for our generation and generations to come.

What is your definition of success? Achieving set goals.

Everyone has different goals for themselves; it may be starting a business, finding employment, passing a test, setting new personal records, etc. Whatever it may be, no matter how big or small, I think of success as meeting those goals.

What advice would you give today’s youth? Set goals for yourself, higher than you even think is possible. Then, work hard, harder than you even think is possible.

One day, it may be tomorrow or 50 years from now, but reality will smack you in the face and you’ll realize you’re exactly where you wanted to be. The choice for success and happiness is yours, and yours alone.

Always communicate with one another to allow growth and our future generations to benefit

on to those parts, as I believe this can help us push through difficult times and perpetuate happiness in the future.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I’d change my stubbornness.

My headstrong personality has gotten me to where I am today, so for that I am thankful. However, it also comes with its faults. Sometimes I try too hard to hold out for the perfect or best opportunity, not realizing that it may have just passed me by. Being a little more laid back, letting negativity roll off my back may be exactly what I need to seize the day, carpe diem!

Your greatest achievement in life thus far? I don’t think I can name just one, as each extraordinary moment in my life seemed like the greatest achievement for that time period, (i.e., graduating high school, graduating undergraduate school, graduating graduate school, starting my first full-time career, getting married, starting a family, starting a business). I feel like the greatest achievement in life can only be answered at the end of it, as I hope my greatest achievement is yet to come. So with that being said, I’ll say my greatest achievement thus far in life is that I have been able to successfully set goals and achieve them with happiness.

Elizabeth Short away from it all? I enjoy traveling anywhere with a beautiful beach and warm water but, if I must stay around here, a good workout or a long walk.

What do you like to read? I don’t spend much time reading if it’s not Cat in the Hat or Goodnight Moon, but when I do; I enjoy cooking magazines & nursing journals.

What types of music do you listen to? I spend countless hours in the car driving from patient to patient. I listen to a wide range of music from today’s hits, a little country but mostly contemporary christian music.

Who has served as your inspiration or role model?

My role model is my grandmother Zoni Doty. She has a heart of gold, the compassion for others as she is the most beautiful person inside and out. She is everything I want to be and more. Next would be my parents. In their 28 years (and counting) of marriage they have taught me the value of a strong marriage, family, hard work and determination. Then there is my loving husband. He works countless hours but always makes sure the kids and I are always taken care of. Finally, my children. They have taught me that a bad day can be made better with one of their smiles.

What qualities do you feel are most important in a leadership role? A leader must be an honest, genuine person who truly cares about the compassion for others around them. They must be open minded, an excellent listener and do their best to be fair and non-judgmental. Also, a good leader is dependable and loyal to their peers and to themselves.

What impression do you hope to leave on those who come into contact with you?

I’m hard working and love my career. It is a great feeling to be able to help people everyday in their toughest days of their lives. I am a compassionate, honest, caring person who genuinely cares about my

patients and their families.

What responsibility do you feel residents have to the community they live and work in? We have the responsibility to support our local business and schools. Diversity, participation and ownership make it a better place.

What advice would you give today’s youth? My advice to our youth is put your phone down and look people in the eye. Putting the phone down will allow you to build a much better relationship than any text or status update.

Moreover, a strong educational system and overall safety would be two additional elements that individuals strive for when considering a place to call home.

However, success often requires multiple attempts and may even result in occasional failures. Always remember it is not the failure that is the problem, but it is how you react and improve your process that will help you to achieve your success.

What advice would you give today’s youth? Always remember that you’re building your resume – stay out of trouble, give it a 110% effort in school, get involved with extracurricular activities, and continuously network and build relationships that can pay dividends later in life.

Upon reading this, I immediately thought of the quote, “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Find your life’s purpose and remember to keep a balance of work and family; this balance among your passions will lead to happiness.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? At times, I spread myself too thin with my career and extracurricular activities I’m involved in, rather than prioritizing and focusing on a more efficient work-life balance.

It’s difficult to pinpoint my greatest achievement thus far; however, I would say marrying my wife Valerie has been a wonderful blessing, and I enjoy each day with her. Additionally, the dedication I have for my company, and the continual teamwork within our firm has contributed to my personal success and the company’s overall success.

I read a lot of non-fiction. I am usually reading at least 4 or 5 books at one time. Most of what I read is about psychology. One of my favorite things to do is share the books I read with people I meet. I also look

What types of music do you listen to? Depends on my mood for the day. I appreciate all kinds of music Favorite movie? Without Limits Favorite TV show? I never watch TV, much to my families disliking. The last show I watched was Hannah Montana with my daughter when it was still on TV. I would much rather be outside or reading than watching TV. Favorite ways of getting away from it all? I LOVE to run. I have never not felt better after I went on a run. I also, enjoy sharing time, space, and coffee with those closest to me. I can have a cup of coffee in my hand and an engaging person across from me and forget everything else going

Who has served as your inspiration or role model?

I have so many people who have inspired me and who I have watched and wanted to be like. My Mom is the hardest working person I know and my Dad is my biggest supporter.

There is nothing that they have ever told me I couldn’t do. They have believed in me every day of my life thus far. Sr. Brenda Fritz was my boss while I was at Catholic Charities and I always knew I wanted to be like her someday if the opportunity arose. Kim Varner has also had a tremendous impact on my life. I love watching how she deals with things and learning from her.

I have had a couple of really good bosses who aren’t from the area who have taught me more than I can even put into words. I also have daily inspiration from the people I work with every day. I have been lucky to be surrounded by people who inspire me on a daily basis.

What qualities do you feel are most important in a leadership role? Being trustworthy and empowering others.

Leadership is about empowering others to do things they did not think were possible.

It is the ability to articulate a vision and help create a path towards that vision.

What impression do you hope to leave on those who come into contact with you?

I hope everyone I come into contact with feels valued and respected. I also hope people leave me with at least a little hint of a smile.

What elements are needed in a community to make it a

place people will want to call home? A sense of belonging and a vision for the future. A place where people can get their own needs met and can help their children be even better off then they are.

What responsibility do you feel residents have to the community they live and work in? I believe we have a responsibility to look out for those around us. I believe the suffering of one of us diminishes us all. Therefore, we are obligated to not turn a blind eye to what is going on around us.

What is your definition of success? Success is living in such a way that you can sleep well each night. And not getting so busy making a living that you forget to treasure the moments of each day.

What advice would you give today’s youth? Never ever ever give up on your dreams.

Surround yourself with others who support and encourage you to do your best job living life. I would also emphasize to do things your future self will thank you for, in other words, don’t lose sight of the fact that your life will not always be like

it is today.

Any research article that involves the human body or exercise.

What types of music do you listen to? Recently I found myself liking Country Music, but shhhh, don’t tell anyone :) Favorite Movie? I am not a big movie fanatic. I would rather be exercising!

Favorite TV Show? Shark Tank and watching Ninja Warriors with my 3 boys Favorite ways of getting away from it all? Riding my bike outside gets me away from all the stressors of life!

Who has served as your inspiration or role model? Each client that walks through my door is an inspiration to me!

so far”! All of those positive comments and successes make my job even so much better than it already is!

What qualities do you feel are most important in a leadership role? Good communication with your staff or team members and your clients is the most important leadership quality. If you have good communication, you will have a successful business and form good relationships with everyone you come in contact with.

What impression do you hope to leave on those who come into contact with you?

Hopefully they will leave understanding how important living a healthy lifestyle is, for not only themselves, but also, how important it is to instill healthy habits for their family and children.

What elements are needed in a community to make it a place people will want to call home? This question really hits home for me since I moved across the country 8 years ago to Effingham, not knowing a single person here, and leaving my family behind. I have never felt more welcome in a community than I have when I moved here. From the neighbors bringing cookies over the day we moved in, to random phone calls from people welcoming us to Effingham. Being kind, caring, and reaching out to others will help them adjust to their new surroundings, and make them feel at home.

What is your definition of success? Making short and long term goals for yourself, and working very hard at them, and then finally achieving them is what I call success.

Stepping out of your comfort

zone will probably be part of this process, but when you step out of your comfort zone, that is where personal success happens!

What advice would you give today’s youth? Take care of your body by eating healthy and exercising.

If today’s youth establish healthy habits, then maybe their parents and siblings will also adapt to a healthier lifestyle. Parents admire and look up to their children, the same way children look up to their parents. Establish a healthy household and everyone will lead a stronger life.

What is the most important ingredient in achieving a happy life? Everyone is passionate about something in their life. Take that passion and make a lifestyle out of it. Maybe even make a job out of it. Taking my passion of healthy eating, exercise and my Physical Therapy degree and turning it into a dream come true business makes me happy. I go to work everyday and make others strong, healthy, and fit….how can I ever have a bad day at work?

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? My patience. Establishing better patience with my boys and others will make me a better person.

Your greatest achievement in life thus far? Being a single mom, buying a building downtown, renovating it, and starting a business on my own. As long as you have passion and drive within yourself, and you work hard, you will achieve whatever you put your mind and heart into!

When I get time to read, I mostly read fashion magazines or the newspaper.

What types of music do you listen to? I mainly listen to country music. I love going to concerts and spending time and creating memories with friends and family!

Favorite movie? My favorite movie would have to be the Breakfast Club.

Favorite TV show? Most of my TV time is spent watching the news, but if I could choose my favorite show it would have to be Greys Anatomy.

Favorite ways of getting away from it all? My favorite and easiest ways of getting away from it all are by turning off the email on my cell phone and being with family

and friends, running/walking, or shopping!

Who has served as your inspiration or role model?

My mother has been the most inspirational figure to me.

Not only growing up did she teach me how to be a leader, she showed me how to be a leader and the qualities that it takes to be one. She has always been there to support my decisions even when they sometimes did not work out how I had planned. I love my mom and appreciate all of the support she has given to me throughout the years!

What qualities do you feel are most important in a leadership role? The top 4 qualities that I think are important for leaders to have are 1. Be a great communicator 2.

Lead by example 3. Be a hard worker 4. Be enthusiastic What impression do you hope to leave on those who come into contact with you?

I hope that people that come in contact with me perceive me as someone who has a passion, excitement, and love for what they do. I also hope they see me as a friend and someone whom they can trust.

What elements are needed in a community to make it a place people will want to call home? Safety, togetherness, faith, education, economic growth, and sense of pride.

What responsibility do you feel residents have to the community they live and work in? All of the above from question number 15.

Don’t try to grow up too fast.

It is the people of the community that make the community what it is. Without passionate people that want to better their community and its members, the community will not succeed.

What is your definition of success? In a professional sense, I define success reaching set goals; as well as building relationships, and bettering the community.

What advice would you give today’s youth? Don’t try to grow up too fast.

What is the most important ingredient in achieving a happy life? Find a career that you are truly passionate about and everything else will fall into place!

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I find myself struggling to find a good work-life balance. Working around cancer patients, survivors, and volunteers with so much passion makes it hard to not get emotionally attached to everyone that I meet.

Your greatest achievement in life thus far? Being hired on by the American Cancer Society, the greatest cancer fighting organization, the last semester of my senior year of college, and working full time while I went to school full time to finish up my degree and still earning a 3.97 GPA when I graduated.
