CULTURAL CENTER DESIGN VII / FALL 2018 San Antonio, TXX

To revitalize the richness of San Antonio, a cultural center was designed to bring the community back together to its roots.

In order to create a communal space and envision a park like environment, a large tesselated roof is placed to blur the lines between interior and exterior spaces. There are also various materials (open air, glass and limestone) used to develop threshold spaces. This concept fits together on a structural grid of a triangular modular sytem.

MEDITATION

DESIGN VI / SPRING 2018 Austin, TX After researching Alvar Aalto’s work, the spaces that he created using light was very prominent and allowed for specific shading conditions that could occur.

In order to use similar principles, the concept of a simple parti with a juxtaposition of light and heavy materials was utilized to develop interesting and suitable lighting conditions.

SEA OF COLUMNS DESIGN V / FALL 2017

Using information gathered from Villa Savoye, the consistency and ambuguity of the columns garnished the most interest and became the focal point of the design.

By extruding the pieces up, a elongated space was created with the columns directing the circulation between solid and void. As the mass was then zoomed into, the columns balanced out to become the direct structure and form.

LINEAR PARK

DESIGN IV / SPRING 2017 Austin, TX Looking at Waller Creek on 53rd Street, it can be potentially used as an outdoor seating area by manipulating the ground plane at different sections of the site.

The implementation of stairs on both sides of the creek was built so that the user could step down to the ground and be able to walk on the water creating an interactive experience. It divides into several planks creating different patterns in the water, comes back up to be flush with street level, and then angles downward again formulating manipulation of the site in a variety of ways.

URBAN CORRIDOR

DESIGN IV / SPRING 2017 Austin, TX

After analyzing selected locations along 53rd/ North Loop, we organized our interventions into four distinct programmatic nodes based on the surrounding context, with a focus on improving circulation and creating community gathering spaces.

Ultimately, the vision focused on creating a safer and stronger relationship between pedestrians, bikers, and cars within and between sites, defining more community and green spaces at different scales, and meeting the programmatic needs of the area, partly through the creation of multipurpose spaces.

DESIGN IV / SPRING 2017 Austin, TX After developing the entire street and understanding the relationship of each program, a specific building was chosen to focus and expand on.

In the housing units, the driving factor to implement different floor plans was to create variety for residents as well a public park and small commercial use under the housing. The public and private programs allow for visitors to check out the area and have a place to stop before continuing to follow the path of the street.

After conducting precedent research, the study provided a basis of two different types of program usage creating interior and exterior spaces with various thresholds taking place.

The ambuguity resulted in constant push and pull of spaces. These generated solids and voids to occur and blurred the line between inside and outside. This allowed for the planes to merge and intersect with each other developig into rich conditions.

VISITOR CENTER

DESIGN III / FALL 2016 Austin, TX The idea was to combine parametrics with complex geometries to create intricate spaces on the capitol grounds.

There was a focus on splitting the public and private spaces by floors so that each program was placed effectively into the design ranging from most private to most public. The rooftop balcony incorporated a resturant for viewers to be able to experience the view of the site and see the capitol. Intitally, the visitor center was schematically designed as various buildings, but then switched into merging the forms together.

HKS ARCHITECTS / HAITI STADIUM Summer 2018 / Dallas, TX

Over the summer, the sports department was working on a pro bono project to provide a stadium for children in Haiti. The emphasis was to create a community space to play soccer and host events.

To encompass a public space with privacy, an outer skin was developed to create a rich volume of folding and wrapping components.

HKS ARCHITECTS / LA RAMS STADIUM Summer 2018 / Dallas, TX

The up and coming LA Rams stadium and concert venue will be an unforgettable space that allows sports, entertainment and residental units entirely with pedestrian access.

The stadium’s main emphasis will be on its retractable roof and exterior views.

Zooming in, this summer I was able to work on the concession pods and design the specific bar counter that would be accomodated in the stadium.

UTSOA / PUBLICATION TEAM Fall 2017- Spring 2018 / Austin, TX

ISSUE is the annual publication of student work ranging from all expertise levels.

This edition focused on translating buildings into art by incoporating human figures. The importance of imagery derives from designing relatable spaces. This addition allowed for a readymade atmosphere and levity to the work.

MUNICH STUDY ABROAD

UTSOA / SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION Summer 2019 / Munich, Germany

The idea of sustainable architecture and design allowed for a deeper insight into cultural, historical and planning implications of Germany in comparison to the United States.

In application to these first hand experiences and thorough research, a strong analysis was developed tying together the concept of urban infrastructure, specifically, public transport systems. Ranging from a variety of scales, the effects create a sense of healthiness, better quality of life, and reduce ecological waste insinuating in global hierarchal and societal differences globally.
