1. For military security, the only way for explorers to reach the island is by small BOAT. Aside from the single entrance, other means of access are difficult: the outer walls of the fortress are smooth, and the WINDOWS are designed as small openings that are easy to defend but hard to attack.
2. Inside the fortress is an OPEN SQUARE , which was designed as a barracks area for troops. Today, it has become overgrown with wild grass and trees, turning into a habitat for water birds.
5. At night, explorers can light a CAMPFIRE, drink and sing under the lighthouse, gazing at the city lights across the river. The lighthouse keeper can join them or choose to remain undisturbed in a secluded little cabin. 4 1 2 3 5

FUNCTION ANALYSIS
Characters:
Since the fort is difficult to access, in this design, only two categories of users are considered: explorer and keeper.
Spaces: Also only two types of spaces are designed, one is the entrance, and the other is the bar, where people can gather.
BAR:
Outdoor. Camping. Evening. Communication. Party
ENTRANCE:
Climbing from windows. Floating bridge
FORMING PROCESS - TOWER
Morphogenesis process
ABSTRACTION
Abstract the tower of the lighthouse into a quadrangular pyramid and cut it to avoid sharp corners.
TWISTING
The upper and lower surfaces of the foursided pyramid are twisted to form an aesthetic architectural form.
HEXAGON
According to the hexagonal characteristics of the site, the shape of the tower is transformed to echo the site.
TRANSFORMING
Adjust the size of the cross section to create a spatial rhythm and form a more practical space.
FORMING PROCESS - LANTERN
Tensegrity Icosahedron
SOLUTION 1:
BONES
Cut lightweight steel pipes into 30 edges; assemble into a symmetrical icosahedron framework. (Labeled as A-a, B-b, C-c......)
STRINGS
Use fiberglass strings to connect non-adjacent bones; tension them to form the structure. (Each exterior joint is connected to the nearest fives, while the interior joints are connected into 4 triangles as the blue lines show.)
SURFACES
Cut canvas into 20 faces equilateral triangles for the icosahedron faces; attach it securely to create a seamless lantern surface.
MODEL
In the physical model, this solution proved to be unfeasible, and its complexity and operability made the shaping process extremely difficult. Considering that its actual size is much larger than the model, a more effective way is to modify the structural solution.
BONES
Cut the light steel pipe into six sections, take three of them as a group and place them perpendicular to each other. The other three are placed parallel to them.
STRINGS
Connect every three adjacent vertices with different directions in the shape of an equilateral triangle with steel cables to form four pairs of eight equilateral triangles.
SURFACES
In addition to the eight equilateral triangles, there are six quadrilaterals in the structure that are not in the same plane. Covered them with canvas to obtain a semi-open lantern.
ENTRANCE
One of the seams is expanded to form a triangular entrance space in a way that conforms to the geometric characteristics.
WINDOW
Open the seams on some edges to form curved windows to improve the interior space experience.
The tensegrity icosahedron features 12 rods and 30 cables, creating a stable, floating structure. Made from lightweight materials like fiberglass and synthetic fibers, it combines aesthetic appeal with functional efficiency. Its symmetrical design, with 20 triangular faces, showcases the principles of tensegrity and offers flexibility while maintaining stability under external loads.

La Palma Island
Observation Bubble:
Here one can observe the nearby aquatic fauna thro ugh the transparent glass. It is connected to the Geologic Axis Column by a tunnel. is adjacent to the Marine Biology Laboratory.
Underwater Tunnel:
The Underwater Tunnel acts as a second exit for the whole project, allowing divers and submarines to enter and exit underwater.
Entrance:
The entrance is connected to the entrance hall by a tunnel.

History Gallery:
The History Gallery is a linear space, with the main road as the axis. The steps leading to the Geologic Axis Column are at the end of the main path.
Geologic Axis Column:
The Geologic Axis Column is a substantial revolving staircase. On the outside of the staircase, several cairns are carved into the rock face, serving as small exhibition halls or accesses to other areas.
Entrance Hall:
In the hall’s centre, there is a lift shaft leading to the cave area, and on one side, there is a staircase leading to the History Gallery.
Breeding Tank:
As a breeding and rescue tank, researchers can get up close and personal with the animals on the platform. It is connected to the Observation Bubble at the bottom and Geologic Axis Column by a tunnel.
History Theatre:
There is a circular theatre at the base of the Geologic Axis Column. Visitors can enjoy a play based on local history or listen to scientific lectures given by the researchers working here.
Rock Sample Showroom:
The Rock Sample Showroom is built in the most extensive cave, with a central lift connecting it to the entrance hall and a tunnel on one side to the Geologic Axis Column.

City of Machine Swallow
Machine city:
With rich minerals and high mechanical skills, dwarves built the whole city into a giant machine. Circle workshops are built on the cliff.
Waterfall:
In order to provide energy to the mine melting, a set of watermills is located in the industry area. The scene of great waterfall which rotate the mill is mind-blowing.
Harbor:
Airships and freighters are the main modes of commercial transportation in the port and city. Airships can be moored in larger caves high up in the cliffs, while ships can be moored in caves below.
Swallow:
Dwarves built their dwellings on the cliffs, mimicking a local swallow that nested there. When night came, if you look from a distance, the cliff will be covered with lights.
Aetheryte Crystal Plaza:
As the hub of the teleportation, it is the most important area of the city. The dwarves built the plaza in the shape of a gear as the plan, with the Aetheryte Crystal as the axis of the gear. In fact, the Aetheryte Crystal Plaza is an artificial island on the sea.
Bazaar:
In the bazaar of this city, you can not only buy things from NPCs, but can also deal with other people’s characters. The souvenir of this city are robots and clocks, by the way.
ELEMENTS ANALYSIS
Characteristics & Ideas
Design Brief:
Inspired by the swallow, a kind of bird that build nests on the sharp cliff, this project is intended to have hollow volumes in rocks as the main design point. As the residents live in their vertical village on the cliff, the most significant volume on the sea level is act as a public plaza, providing all the public services and undertaking city functions. In this project, because of the purpose of designing a city in a video game, I make the choice to use Unreal Engine 5 as my primary design tool, which is mainly used as a game-producing tool.
Story Background:
Before The Flood of Light, somewhere on Kholusia Island, Dwarves had built a city on a cliff by the sea. With superb mining and smelting skills, they cast the city into a giant urban machine in the middle of a cliff, with the white smoke of steam engines and the rattle of gears. The whole of Norvrandt admired the metal and mechanical skills of the Dwarves, with sufficient supply and demand. Despite their exclusivity, the city developed a thriving trade, with airships and giant ships carrying merchants and cargo like clocks and robots.

BAZAAR
On the east side of the city ring road, there is an automated industrial production area and an open-air market. Vendors will play music here to attract customers, and above is the rumbling machine assembly line.
WORKSHOP
Unlike the bulk commodities produced by the automatic industry, in the workshop, highly skilled craftsmen will create precision machinery by themselves, and this is also a place where the latest equipment is continuously created.
