1. Unpaid invoices.

Unpaid bills are one clue that there may be some problems or client satisfaction difficulties on your project. While these might just be client errors or sluggish processing, they could also indicate that they are delaying payment because of delivery or quality issues.

2. Project budget over by more than 10 percent.

The project manager who fails to keep track of the project budget will be in for a rude awakening down the road. More than 10% is a red signal that requires quick care or it will continue to travel in the wrong direction. Find out what's causing it to travel in that way right now.

3. Missed deadlines on consecutive project deliverables.

If a project consistently misses critical delivery deadlines, it's an indication that the project timeline is unrealistic, the team is underperforming, or one or more team members are not dedicated enough to the project.

4. Customer unavailable for multiple status meetings.

You must have access to your consumer for information and decision-making. You'll need the client to be available for weekly status calls, scope talks, and explanations of needs.

5. The CEO starts asking questions about the project.

If you've gotten to this point and haven't realised there's a problem, you may be in denial or have your head buried in the sand. Hey! The CEO normally only makes house calls if the project client is phoning to complain, unless your project pays his salary.
