Educational Outcomes, working with local aid organizations, among then Turkey Volunteers in Istanbul, will seek to aid refugee populations in and around the Middle East Region with its Refugee Education Program. In 2011, the Syrian Civil War created a humanitarian and refugee crisis not seen since the Second World War. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, calls Syria the “worst humanitarian disaster of our era.” More than 250,000 Syrian have died and more than 13.5 million people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance inside of Syria. Nearly 5 million refugees have fled Syria, almost 3 million of those are currently in Turkey, some 366,000 just in Istanbul
Online Education Program Online studies have become the go to mechanism for learners both, young and old, who are not able to meet the scheduling requirements of formal education centers. Educational Outcomes (EO), with many regional partners, is seeking to create an online academy that will service and support client populations displaced by the Syrian Civil War, climate change migration, and many other at-risk populations. We hope to provide an open source and free portal for students seeking to enhance their abilities in the countries they have been forced to flee to. By creating a repository of resources in Arabic, and other languages as they become necessary, we hope to help learners build the skills they need to properly engage in their host country. Gaining skills that will help them find meaningful and sustainable jobs, better integrate into regional school systems, and eventually higher education. Adding curriculum links from current sites to EO’s existing webpage (www.educationaloutcomes.org) we seek to create a one stop shop for both teachers and learners to expand their skill set and empower themselves through education. We are actively seeking support from other NGO’s, language schools, colleges and universities, and existing online databases of courses to help in the creation process. We require curriculum for Math’s, Science, Turkish, Health and Hygiene, Social Studies, Personal Finance, International Human Rights, and Migration Issues. EO is making available its Trauma Informed Training Program to help teachers, administrators and volunteers who work with at-risk populations better deal with the barriers created to learning by trauma.
