Shedding Some Light in the Darkness Suicide and High-‐Risk Behaviors in Adolescents In this presentation, we will discuss awareness and coping mechanisms for high-‐risk behaviors in adolescents. Topics include: Bullying, Depression, Substance Abuse, and Self-‐Harm. This is a complimentary event that is open to professionals, families, and those interested in learning more about issues facing adolescents and resources that are available here in our community. Guest Speaker Brian Hughes Brian Hughes is an active member of the community and speaks to teens, parents, schools, and other community agencies about a personal tragedy. In May of 2013 Brian's son Casey took his own life after a series of dangerous decisions. This incident has sparked a desire in Brian to reach out and bring awareness about harmful behaviors, drugs, alcohol, and the risk of suicide within our adolescent community. He is a genuine community leader who resides in Kingwood, TX.
Guest Panel Jeanne Blake & Heather Russell Tragically, A.J. Orth died on Nov 18, 2012 at the age of 22. His mother, Jeanne Blake and sister Heather Russell have found peace in sharing the legacy he left behind. A.J.'s story didn't end when died; he continues to influence the lives of others through his mother and sister through sharing their story.
