taff and pupils from St Laurence’s Catholic Primary School, Kirkby had a surprise visitor to their school in the shape of Dame Kelly Holmes this week.

S

Headteacher, Paul Cronin, said: “We met Dame Kelly last year after receiving an award

from TES School Award for Outstanding Sporting Initiative, she was very interested in our Globetrotters scheme to promote health through physical activities and we invited her the to visit us at St Laurence’s any time she was in the area. “It turned out that she was filming in Liverpool and decided to take up our invitation and

visit the school. “We had a fantastic morning as she toured classrooms and the children though highly excited where a credit to the school. “It also transpired that Dame Kelly has a motto – Be the best you can be – which is also a motto we use at our school. “We where honoured to have her at the school especially as

she had a knee injury and was very tired, but she would not be put off from touring the classrooms and taking a question and answer session with the pupils. “On behalf of the school and the pupils I would like to say a big thank you to Dame Kelly for taking time to visit our school, she is a great role model and ambassador for school sports”.
