BIO: Eduardo Borba is a licensed architect and urban planner in Brazil, currently seeking NCARB certification. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture from one of the most prestigious architecture schools in Brazil.

After completing his Master’s degree research on housing in metropolitan downtown areas, he found himself working for a large developer company in Los Angeles, Meruelo Maddux Properties, in their in-house studio, designing multi-family high-rise buildings in the downtown area. It was a great experience for him, learning about federal, state, and local codes, as well as gaining insights into project production in all phases of design and construction administration.

Upon returning to São Paulo, he successfully applied his acquired skills by project-managing an educational building and an urban design project at Levisky Arquitetos, overseeing the process from concept to construction documentation. During this same period, he engaged in part-time lecturing at FMU’s Architecture School on architecture design-related disciplines.

The next step in his career led him to start his architecture studio, Versão Brasileira. Over the next six years, he worked on a myriad of projects with different clients. Simultaneously, he provided consultancy services for a construction company, aiding them in anticipating problems and resolving them with the design team beforehand. As the principal architect, Eduardo gained unique insights into practice management, acquiring skills ranging from generating leads for new projects to staff management and financial control.

In 2020, Eduardo was recruited by one of the biggest architecture firms in Brazil to work as a project manager on several multi-family projects. While successfully working there, he received an invitation to return to California and engage again with the same developer he had worked with before, on multi-family projects in Los Angeles and other cities across the US. This latest experience gave him the chance to project manage different properties that the company has been developing. His duties included creating underwritings, conducting due diligence, creating yield studies, preparing RFPs, developing conceptuals, hiring and managing the design team, overseeing permitting, managing project schedules, obtaining cost estimates, and negotiating bids.
