EDUARD MASiP RIBA

M.Arch, Barcelona Experience +11 years

(+971) 50 867 3371

eduard.masip.marin@gmail.com

I am an Architect (RIBA - M.Arch) graduated from the Architecture School of Barcelona (ETSAB) with more than ten years of international work experience in Architecture, Masterplanning and Urban Design.

I worked in Barcelona for more than four years in different award-winning offices. After that, I moved to Montreal to gain international experience where I worked as Project Designer for two years and was responsible for projects across Canada and the United States. Since February 2016, I have been an Associate in Gensler Middle East (Dubai/Abu Dhabi) where I also became a Mixed Use and Retail Center Practice Area Leader for the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions.

Passionate about architecture and design, I am ambitious, focused, and dynamic. My attention to detail, organization and excellent problem-solving skills ensure that every project is done accurately and to the highest standards. I strongly believe that a good project only occurs if every single step has been given the adequate consideration. From the first sketches, to design, choice of materials, budget, and construction methodologies, I am highly client focused in order to exceed their expectations. I work well under pressure, multitask, and always meet deadlines. I am responsible, hard-working, and always willing to learn more.

Leading a team and supervising a project from start to finish has allowed me to become acutely aware of the design changes that might happen and the financial implications of each decision. I am highly efficient in bringing out the best of each colleague, encouraging them towards a common success in achieving a fully integrated design solution. I also very much appreciate mentoring intermediate and junior staff.

Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

With: Gensler

Year: 2021 / Ongoing

Stage: Pre Concept Masterplan

Scope: Senior Architect / Design Manager

Area: 43,266 m2 (BUA)

Software: Revit, Rhino

Gensler ME was appointed to design three exclusive retail and mixed use plots, in Wadi Safar masterplan. The sites are located to the west of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia and the three plots are the Fairways North, the Fairways South and the Green Core. These plots will act as the heart of the surrounding residential community’s.

Wadi Safar will be a place of discovery and experiences, a natural retreat that feels a million miles from the city, where each resident feels like the only one in the wadi. Residents, visitors and travellers to the site will be immersed in an undulating landscape that skirts seasonal tributaries, rising dramatic summits and stretches across vast plateaus.

The landscape will speak to the heritage of Saudi Arabia and be a place of discovery and experience. This is a destination that will be unique to each resident, feeling like the only one in the wadi. With the Five Principles of design - exclusivity, tradition, nature, privacy and quality, Wadi Safar will nurture space and person with dramatic summits, exclusive residential address, luxury retail and open space.

ADQ OFFICE CAMPUS (MODON)

With: Gensler

Scope: Senior Architect / Design Manager

Year: 2020 Area: 36,157 m2

Stage: Competition - Placemaking Masterplan, Offices and Workplace

Software: Sketchup, Revit

Inspired by what is the background scene of the Campus site, we are aiming to create an environment and experience for people and businesses to thrive. Gensler approach will combine innovative practices on what we believe - and what the data tells us - making an impact on human experience, and thus on business performance. A community catalyst and generator of a sense of belonging by connecting to the people as well as to the city within which it sits. It promotes sustainable working & living by responding to both the natural and built environments and use them to optimize passive cooling and lighting strategies and impact investments.

The UPLIFT Campus will become a place that prioritizes health and wellbeing at the human scale by connecting to nature and the outdoor environment and creating places that improve the livelihood and work-life balance of its users through a mixed-use program.

Stage: Concept Design, Scheme Design - Retail Centres

Software: Revit, Skethup, Rhino

Located adjacent to the eastern gate to the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh, Gensler’s design for a new mixed-use development captures the essence of the neighborhood and the spirit of the city.

The entertainment cluster houses a variety of programs including Retail, Food & Beverage, Cinema, Bowling, and Offices. The ground level is designed as a free flowing, vibrant courtyard that opens outwards in every direction that invites passive movement of wind and shade from the exterior.

The facades take their cue from the character of the Quarter. The influence of Salamani architecture reveals itself in our contemporary design with a refined palate of elements and shapes such as triangles and narrow vertical slits. The exterior limestone cladding match the traditional stone facades of the surrounding neighborhood. The façade surface begins as a relatively fat surface on the facades facing the road but transform into undulating strata bands in the central courtyard space. This undulation and subtle variety of colors throughout the façade promotes continual visual movement throughout the project.

Mall extension in Manama Bay. The existing mall Phase 01 is consolidated by creating a series of new districts: Forum, Grand Avenue, Plaza, Electra and Market.

The Plaza district is a grand space which will allow for an ice rink and other various activities. Electra creates a high tech street inspired by the busy streets of Japan with its LED screens. Market is a young and vibrant space with spill out stores and lots of natural light and earthy elements.

Along the mall, three different districts with activities create the spaces where people can gather. The scheme proposes six evenly distributed escalator & lift cores. For wayfinding and strategic purposes; toilet blocks are found behind each primary core at ground.

The mall responds to the residential side with the entrances placement, aligned to the streets. Two entrances also open up towards the highway side of the development.

The internal elevation of each district becomes a composition of facades that have been designed to be flexible. The typologies vary in height and width in order to fit any space requirement. In the event of units needing to join, the typologies all fall within the same 1.5m modular system which can adapt for such changes.

Ultimate sustainability within a living elevation, inspired by the elements and responsive to the human spirit.

Create living places in the sky that define the space, or rather, “a home”. This area materialises the sense of exclusivity, security, comfort and belonging. By associating these emotions to the design of the building, both exterior and interior, we aim to create a living ambience that respects individuality while building a unified community. Complex but simple, elegant but earthy, minimal but encompassing, cosy but protected, all at one with nature.

We are excited to define the new living experience in Doha.

The towers on plots E.003 and E.004 house 475 and 515 units respectively and are placed on a 5 level podium which consists of parking and retail placed along the edge. All car and drop off access is from the back of the plot on the lowest level. The podium entrance is level with the main square, which results in a half recessed basement for the lowest level.

Single family house in two levels: ground floor and walk out basement. The main living spaces and the master bedroom are placed in the upper level, where we find the main entrance and a carport. One of this level’s features is an exterior terrace that brings the inside to the outside and viceversa. A glaced corner brings a lot of light to the staircase, in order to emphasise the connection between floors. In the lower floor, a family room with access to the backyard divides the space, with two bedrooms in both sides and an office. The materials give a natural and traditional look, with natural stone and dark cedar wood planks, but the volumes are easy to understand, following a contemporary design attitude.

Ground floor plan - Preliminary plans

Walk-out basement floor plan - Preliminary plans

With: BONEstructure

Year: 2015 Area: 3,761 sq.ft. / 349 m2

The ground floor space is defined by the simplest architectural element: two walls, one to guide you towards the entrance door, and one to take your sight to the backyard.

Upstairs the bedrooms are strategically separated, to allow for different levels of privacy between the family components. The architectural design responds to the Californian climate, with overhang roofs to protect from the sun in summer but still letting the light go in in winter.

The combination of a thoughtful design with the high quality envelope made possible this Net Zero home.

“NEW CLASSIC” COUNTRYSIDE DEVELOPMENT AND VILLAS DESIGN

New Haven (Vermont), United States

With: BONEstructure

Year: 2014

Area: 6 Ha (development) / Villas: Small 1,500 sq.ft. / 140 m2 - Medium 2,500 sq.ft. / 230 m2 - Large 3,200 sq.ft. / 300 m2

Countryside development required the creation of multiple and different types and sizes of villas: Small, Medium and Large single family houses.

The traditional type of construction with a pitched roof is redefined, following contemporary design methods, materials, volumes and shapes. The combination of natural finishings such as stone, wood and shingles with modern ones such as steel, aluminum and acrylic, established a multi-generational neighborhood, in order to serve all types of families and needs.

CARLES III WATERFRONT, URBAN AND LANDSCAPE PLANNING

Alcanar (Tarragona), Spain

With: Loles Herrero

Year: 2012

Area: 16,000 m2 / 1.6 Ha

An urban project became a landscape one due to the characteristics of the place: The Mediterranean sea, the pines, the rocks... Reconversion of commercial land use (camping) into residential. The volumes are placed saving the maximum number of trees and letting the green corridors fill the space. A new “promenade” is created alongside the coast and some sensitive urban actions such as a starcaise and a ramp are made to reach the beach.

The houses distribution prioritises the open spaces: in the ground floor the common areas with higher ceilings and in the first floor the rooms, prevailing the views for the coast and the sunshine.

With: JORNET LLOP PASTOR

Year: 2009

Area: 12.4 Ha

The scheme is set with seven moves that should serve to achieve the overall strategy of economic and social renewal and revitalisation: the construction of a central space: The Promenade; The formation of a cross-park with the shape of a green corridor; The provision of equipment and services; New and affordable housing; A commercial ground floor with services and new activities; Rehabilitation and improvement of existing housing; The redevelopment of the road network, improving internal mobility and parking.

CARRER

MIG, OLD TOWN URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND PLAN

Tortosa (Tarragona), Spain

With: JORNET LLOP PASTOR

Year: 2009

Area: 65 Ha

The Old Town of Tortosa needed a fully development plan, a redesign of it’s urban architecture. The proposal creates a path that connects the new open spaces placed alongside and acts as an articulation having the new pulbic buildings in it’s core. The roofs of the neighborhood act as a 5th facade, becoming part of the plan’s landscape. Last but not least, many inhabited and old buildings are restorated, and many empty spaces are filled with new houses and commercial buildings.
