Q & A with 2022-2023 State Officers KYRA JOHNSON *Favorite moment this year: CTSO Capitol Experience! It was super fun to visit the capitol with other state officers and learn how the capitol functions here in South Dakota! Being able to sit in on board meetings was also very intriguing and getting to hear testimonies from both sides was so cool! *What/who inspired me to go into teaching: All choral/fine arts educators have played such a big role in my life and have inspired me to go into education. Specifically speaking my middle school choir teacher, Melissa Fikse made me not only want to go into education but to grow as a musician and I would love to do exactly what she did for me in the future. *How has Educators Rising helped you? Educators Rising has been a wonderful experience for not only myself but for many high schoolers across the state. It has given me the opportunities to visit with many colleges across the state of South Dakota and has really shown to me that I would like in a college or university. It is so nice to be able to see how each school functions and what they have to offer for their current and future students. *Next Year? Next fall I will be a senior at Harrisburg High School. I am so excited to start my senior year, but also a little nervous for all the big steps that will come with it! *Plans after college? After college I would love to stay here in South Dakota and teach middle school choir.

EMMA JOHNSON *My favorite moment this year would have to be State Educators Rising when we did the lip sync battle and karaoke. *What/who inspired me to go into teaching: Someone who inspired me to go into teaching would be my preschool teacher Mrs. Patti, she taught me what it was like to be a big role model in someone’s life, and I still have a strong relationship with her to this day. *How has Educators Rising helped you? Educators Rising helped me figure out what was the right path for me to follow and how to get there through perseverance and passion. *In the fall I will be attending Colorado Mesa University to major in elementary ed and get an endorsement for special ed. My hopes for after college is that I have my own classroom teaching second grade, with my very own students who look up to me as I did to my teachers.

Q & A with 2022-2023 State Officers HAIDYN LOUNSBERY Favorite moment from this year- My favorite moment from this year was to be able to work with our state officer team. Every single meeting we had and event that we planned was put in with effort, and we worked really well together. I miss this team already!

Who/What inspired me to go into teaching? - I was inspired to go into teaching by many people. First, my grandma for showing me through her teaching career how she made a positive impact on her students.

My first grade teacher for always being there for us. My Spanish and ESL teachers at my school for helping me to realize my passions for teaching esl and translating.

How did educators rising help me? - Educators Rising showed me that there are educators who teach the subjects I want to teach, and not be discouraged for going into the profession. Educators Rising taught me that being an educator is one of the most rewarding occupations and that I am needed in this field.

Plans after high schoolI will be attending the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, where I will be majoring in Linguistics and Asian Studies. I will also work towards being certified to teach esl and teaching english overseas! After college I hope to teach English in South Korea , and come back to the US to teach esl for communities in Minnesota that need it.

APRIL NEWS EDUCATORS RISING Teacher Appreciation Week MAY 7-13, 2023

Start making plans to have an amazing Teacher Appreciation Week. This is a great time to celebrate your teachers in your school.

We will be reaching out to our schools to see the fun things they will be doing to feature in our next edition of our magazine.

Teacher Signing Day MAY 7-13, 2023

During the week of teacher appreciation we encourage all schools to host a teacher signing day. This is our opportunity to celebrate the teaching profession.

RECORD NUMBER OF MEMBERS QUALIFY FOR NATIONALS

GIVING DAY/Chapter fundraising Opportunity Educators Rising South Dakota has many events throughout the year to connect, inspire, and build up leaders in our organization.

These events have a cost, but thanks to our amazing partners and our GIVING DAY efforts we have been able to raise our funds to make these events free.

Chapters can join us in this day and raise funds as well. If your chapter would like to join we will make a specific page for your chapter. This page will have your goals and what you are hoping to raise the funds for. When you join us on giving day we do a 50/50 split of funds raised. If your chapter raised $1,000 you will get $500. The purpose and reason for this is that we can then be able to keep events FREE. If we don't do this then there could come a time where each chapter raises funds and then the state has to charge for every event we do.

Again this Is not something we want to do and believe that we are better together. If we can all come together on this day we can make a large impact for all our members.

Educators Rising South Dakota had a wonderful State Conference on the campus of Black Hills State University. At this conference we had 20 of our members all qualify for the national conference in Orlando Florida. Our members will head to Orlando in June to compete and represent South Dakota on a National stage. The state organization is working to raise travel scholarships for each member. You can join us today by making a $25 donation. This will help us reach our goal of raising $6,000 so that we can provide $300 travel scholarship for these members.

SOUTH DAKOTA The mission of GoTeachSD, an initiative of Educators Rising SD, is to ensure that all students across the Rushmore state have equitable access to effective educators. GoTeachSD seeks to recruit the next generation of teachers in South Dakota, helping remedy the critical teacher shortage that affects every state in the U.S.

To be eligible for the GoTeachSD Ambassador program, participants must: Hold a valid South Dakota teaching certificate.

Have daily meaningful interaction with students and educators in their school role.

Be proficient in using social media platforms.

Identify a project related to teacher development or retention in your school/district that you are willing to work on and speak about to the group during meetings.

Examples include but are not limited to: Starting an Educators Rising Chapter at your school or in your district; Working with college students interested in becoming teachers getting observation hours or student teaching in your school/district; Working with new teachers in your school/district;

INSPIRE. AMPLIFY. TEACH. Find a passionate Teacher Leader who will be the point of contact for your chapter.

This can be current or retired educators.

Host a recruiting meeting to share about Educators Rising. (Once your chapter signs up with the state you will get more information on how to do this) Get involved by attending learning expos, leadership training, state and national conferences. Have members volunteer and serve your elementary schools as teachers aides. Think about ways your chapter could celebrate educators, bus drivers, cooks, and others in your school each month.

You get to pick your involvement level, but the more you get involved the more networking and connections your members will have.

We ask each chapter to host 1 meeting a month for your members to come and learn more about the teaching profession. We have resources and ideas to share with you to get you started.

There is no cost to districts to start a chapter however there is a $10 national due per member that we must have members pay. This is done by the members or schools have done fundraisers to cover that fee. This Is not due till January 27th.

How do I earn a CDA? Complete 120 hours of education through the CDA training program.

SANFORD CHILD SERVICES Through a partnership with SD Department of Social Service, Child Care Services and Sanford CHILD services a new opportunity is coming to SD schools. Sanford CHILD services would administer the 120 hours of coursework through a live interactive webinar course. The course would be a year long course. Students interested would be online live with the course instructor and fellow SD students on certain days during the week. The days they don't have class they could be out in their observation classroom learning hands on.
